Necot coffee house in Brighton and Hove

I've been to the Necot a couple of times and always found it provides good quality bacon sandwiches served by efficient, polite staff. It is conveniently close to the Royal Sussex County Hospital and is reasonably priced. Pleasant surroundings.

Very friendly staff. Delicious food. Handy if you are at Royal Sussex County Hospital and need sustenance.

I had the Scottish breakfast with a cuppa. Very friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. Love the good selection for my vegetarian and vegan friends. Small but perfectly formed!

Visited the cafe today before work. Been looking forward to visit them but the way how I have been served and the food was terrible. It was like a reheated breakfast with full of oil, small portion and loud staff were signing. I’m very very disappointed looking for a reasonable complimentary offer.

This cafe is just around the corner from our holiday home. It’s a fab little cafe that does breakfasts and door step sandwiches, can’t go wrong! Great to go on and read a paper :-)

Fuimos aquí dos días seguidos para el desayuno. Nos permitieron traer a nuestro perro e incluso le dieron un pequeño jamón. El lugar estaba limpio, cómodo y el personal amable. No es mi opinión personal, sino una de un amigo que tiene citas regulares en el Royal Sussex County Hospital. Ella y su esposo fueron tras uno, les gustan los lugares tranquilos y esto parece encajar a la perfección. Un montón de gente local y fuera de la ruta turística batida, además de un paso por la colina desde el hospital y paradas de autobús. Tenían café no siendo comedores masivos, pero estamos impresionados con el menú, que incluye un inglés completo con pudín negro y haggis (posiblemente versión escocesa de febrero) y la cocina (ingredientes frescos recién hechos al momento). Good coffee , cakes and Sandwiches , I tend to go for the £5.50 breakfast but beware if you try and change the baked beans for tinned tomatoes they charge extra which other places in the area do not do , This coffee shop is clean and most of the staff are friendly , they offer table service and I noted the disability / autism awareness of the waitress attending to a customer WELL DONE.

This place never fails. My favourite coffee in town and veggie food is super. I usually have a veggie breakfast but fancied a change. Scrambled eggs on rye with veggie bacon and veggie haggis, absolutely delicious.

The little breakfast is exactly as shown in the photo, well cooked and tasty. This cafe is small, friendly with a surprisingly wide menu catering for all taste. A great little find

We have walked past here to on a number of occasions and decided to pop in on Sunday for a coffee. Served straight away in a really chilled out atmosphere. Could not believe they serve Scottish lorne sausage. If only I had known before. Really nice coffee place and the croissant is really fresh with a selection of jams. Will be popping in more often.

Stumbled across this on the way to a much hyped breakfast place and decided to stop. Cosy and unpretentious, the staff were very welcoming and friendly and a quick coffee turned into Light Breakfast. No problem at all about providing for a coeliac - bread, sausages, hash brown all gluten free. Newspapers available to read. Highly recommend it. Walked up to original destination which looked good but was heaving and we were very happy that we had stayed at Necot.

I went for a takeaway coffee and cake. The young man was making a coffee for a person in front, but o acknowledgement of my existence even ‘hi I’ll b wish you in a minute ‘ - place wasn’t busy at all another Scottish waitress chatting with a customer at a table, who was her friend about her events, other staff standing in the kitchen. Then he served me -fine, but no apology etc . I wanted a takeaway brownie for my mother, I asked if I could have one that looked fresh and moist, he said ‘no we have to sell these first(dry and cracking) I said I didn’t want the old stock they needed shifting ! He did give me a fresh one. Nice coffee ☕️

Lovely staff and food. The cafe is dog friendly and very relaxed and cosy. A good selection of food for all diets. A full vegan breakfast was available and the attentive server made sure to explain what would be on the plate! Oat milk was available for my coffee and was heated correctly.

Stumbled onto this little coffee shop steps from our AirBnB with a terrible case of jet lag- they took pity on me and handed me a deliciously made Americano which saved the day. Every morning of our trip I returned to the same coffee shop with the friendliest people. I honestly wish I could pick up the whole shop and take it home with me to the USA because it was all fantastic. Sorry I missed you on the morning we left, your shop was one of our favorite things about Brighton.

Awesome food. Fab coffee. My regular hang out. Vegan and gluten free options. Nut and oat milk. Jaffa orange cake is divine. The food comes out piping hot every time and is all freshly prepared.

Returning after some years. Welcome and attentive staff. Delicious cake and nice hot chocolate. Will be back soon this time

Been going here for last 4 years and it's constantly excellent. It gets better each time I go. I'm veggie so my favourite is a breakfast with veggie bacon,sausage, haggis, black pudding. Yes all veggie. Also vegan option. There is nowhere else Offering such a good selection on a veggie breakfast plus vegan butter and gluten free toast.

Never been before but will surely go again. Welcoming, great service and lovely food. An out of the way gem. Highly recommended.

This corner cafe is friendly, great cooking and consistent tasty comfort food. It has brought something special to the area and is a real community cafe. Gerry, the owner, cooks a great breakfast and will try to accommodate food intolerances. Sunday’s are very popular. Get there early.

I have a coffee here Monday - Friday. It is the friendliest place, the staff are really lovely and can't do enough for you.

Ordered the light breakfast at £5.50 and doubled up for an extra £3. Breakfast was perfect, good quality ingredients and eggs cooked just how I like them. Friendly staff, nice decor and sunny window seat, couldn't ask for more.

We have visited the cafe for coffee in the past which was fine. However on eating there we found the food was awful. The vegetarian breakfast consisted of little more than a plate of backed beans and the frittata's were bland, dry and overcooked. We did tell the waitress who was largely indifferent. Also, I have seen that door mentioned in a couple of reviews, and the staff must bear in mind that it does get very cold when sitting still with the front door left permanently ajar. ok for coffee but there are far better local places to eat.

We were a family of 9 looking for a snack break after visiting my mum in hospital. We saw this place was still open seeing it still had their advertising board outside and the door was open. We all went inside at 10 minutes to 4, however was then told we are closing. Okay I understand staff want to get home, however to turn away 9 people is sheer madness for a business, especially considering the amount of other coffee houses out there around that area that are all competing for customers. Okay your loss I thought as we went just along the street and found another coffee house where we spent over £50 within half an hour of being there. For any business to survive especially when they are so many of the same close to you, sorry but sometimes you have to work that little harder and a little longer. This the only reason that I gave 2 stars, other than that the coffee and food is nice as we have eating there before, but what a shame for its lack of professionalism, business sense and customer service. Now that we know and experianced the other place, sorry Necot you just lost a bunch of regular customers and any reconmendation.

This cafe is my favourite spot in Kemptown, a real find! I'm quite fussy with my coffee, and Necot never disappoints (it is strong though, so ask for single shot if you like a weaker coffee!) They do brilliant homemade cakes, pastries, and hot food, which is available for takeaway. They also do a really good range of vegan and gluten free options too! The staff are lovely and friendly, and the whole place just has a great laid-back feel to it. I would definitely recommend!

Following my visit of the 1st may. I feel so upset by the way staff lost complete control and shouted at a quiet couple and their very young child. We watched in disbelief how following a simple request to close a door turned into a verbal assault by staff. It ruined our experiance and we will take our regular business elsewhere.

Today my husband and I were verbally abused by cafe staff when we asked them not to keep the door wide open because the door leads straight to the busy road and because our 18 months old daughter was walking in the cafe and attempted to walk out of the door while we were having breakfast. We just simply asked to keep the door closed and to open the windows instead. The windows btw could easily be opened.

We have been going here for ages and I have never thought to leave a review which is pretty hopeless....

We live just around the corner from Necot and it is definitely our favourite local cafe to go to for delicious breakfast. The staff is fantastic - very friendly and professional, the food is simply delicious (veggie breakfast is the best veggie breakfast I've had in town, and I've had a few) and the coffee/smoothies are amazing.

Came here for my partners birthday. ..great that I could book a table. The staff were very understanding when certain orders were placed. I had the veggie breakfast all tasty and well presented. .they also brought a slice of cake and candle out which was a nice touch. .they are dog friendly which does seem to be the norm now. .however am not a fan. .but it does not detract from the fact it is a great place to have brunch. I would eat here again . Thank you for making it a special time. .

Just discovered this local cafe across the road from me and I'm in love. The staff are so friendly and the cakes are amazing not to mention the great coffee. It's an absolute must if you are in Kemptown

Recently moved around the corner of Necot and have had breakfast, takeaway and lunch here. It's a great place to take a newspaper and chill, although it isn't the best coffee in Kemp Town (see Grind, or Real Pattisserie). Breakfast is good, but scrambled egg not so good! Also when your serve toast do you think you can do it with a portion of butter on the side ? People prefer this :-) ... Sandwichs from Necot are brilliant, real door wedge sarnies and if you're in need of a fix great for a takeaway a proper British sandwich!

Great cafe. Standards are consistently high. The food, drinks & staff have always been really good and it has a nice easy atmosphere - light, airy, friendly and popular without being over-busy, By the by, I don't recognise any of the things the person who rated it 1 star is saying, and I've visited the cafe roughly twice a week for the last few years.

We've eaten here a few times to give benefit of the doubt - we really want this place to be good as it's such a nice location and v convenient. But it's never delivered anything of quality. We've eaten cold greasy breakfasts where the eggs are like rubber bullets, we've had takeaways where the grease soaked through the wrapping and have witnessed the staff arguing with customers who have asked for a different bread choice or complained about cold coffee.

Nice, quite cafe with simple choice of food. Not been there before today but the rye bread bacon sandwich was fantastic. Huge slices of the lightest, fluffy, buttered rye bread full of great tasting, pefectly cooked bacon. So good I didnt even bother with the brown sauce! Good pot of tea too.

I've now visited this coffee shop on 3 occasions and always found it to be a very enjoyable experience. High quality coffee, cakes and sandwiches. Comfortable seating with magazines and newspapers to form an excuse for an additional cuppa. The best bit is that the staff are truly amazing, very friendly and fun. Indeed upon my last visit 1st December, we were treated to background impromptu singing (Christmas songs) from the girls as the owner had told them that Christmas was officially allowed in the shop. NECOT stands for 'not everyone's cup of tea' ! Well I think this is untrue, but please don't tell anyone as I'd like to get a seat upon my next visit :)

Lovely helpful staff who offered many vegetarian and vegan options when I went to order. We went for a vegan breakfast which had a Linda McCartney sausage, hash brown, mushrooms, tomatoes, vegan 'haggis' pattie, baked beans, sourdough toast, and avocado. The food was absolutely delicious, so filling too. We will definitely be back.

If you want a BIG well filled sandwich with nice simple fillings - then this is the palce for you! Lovely staff and good coffee

The breakfasts here have good ingredients and are very tasty. As are the meals and cakes. Have been here numerous times and will keep popping back in too.

Been to Necot a few times now and haven't got around to giving them a review. Often take friends there when visiting and they all loved it. This place is s great little find, friendly staff, delicious food and at reasonable prices. I went for the light breakfast which was ample (£4.95). I had it with scrambled egg and mushrooms as a side. Really tasty and decent quality products, Washed down with a coffee which was robust and gave me that kick start I needed in the morning. Menu has a great selection of breakfast which include eggs benedict / royal and fresh croissants. They also offer a lunch menu, which I have yet to try but all sounds great. Give this a try if your in the area.

I loved this place, what a friendly service and kind gentlman that runs it. Fried food good and tasty and coffee nice. Food came quickly. Smoothys also good.

If you're looking for a simple but decent lunch, this is a good place to come. I had a cheese and tomato 'toastie' which actually came in the form of cheese on toast with tomato on top but that wasn't an issue. The service is friendly enough and it's just a pleasant place to spend an hour or so.

This is one of my favourite Kemptown locals for coffee or weekend fry-up. Cooked breakfasts are excellent, with great freshly cooked ingredients and the option of adding black pudding etc. Choice of light or doubling up and veggie alternative. They also do generous sandwiches, frittata and cakes but cooked breakfasts seem to be the most popular.

First visit yesterday with my son and his girlfriend. This a is lovely little corner establishment in the heart of Kemptown. Nicely fitted out with lots of wood, daily papers, interesting varied menu and very relaxed atmosphere.

Nice little corner cafe that has turned what used to be a drab pub into a pleasant local cafe. Does a nice fry up (including veggie options) and is also nice just for a coffee/cake. Does lunch menu too, also, I believe. Staff are generally friendly and efficient, they get the daily papers so you can go sit and read with your morning coffee. Although it gets busy at peak times, it's rare that you can't get a table, so it's a good place to know about in the neighbourhood.

I occasionally call in a for a bacon sandwich and a coffee - the best anywhere in Kemp Town and probably the whole of Brighton.

Went here for breakfast and it was good and a nice little cafe, there was just a few things that would make it even better but maybe Im being fussy!

Went for breakfast, which couldn't be faulted - black pudding (Isle of Bute), mushrooms as extras, granary toast, scrambled eggs devine, sausages tasty. Excellent espresso coffee - proper size too. I will be going back.

I had a lovely visit with a friend recently for lunch. The café is bright, warm and welcoming. The staff were wonderfully friendly without being overwhelming. I had toasties was a huge portion of cheese on toast with extra toppings. The salad garnish was much more than a garnish and was lovely.

We had a lovely breakfast on Sunday and the coffee (Cappuccino and Mocha's) were fantastic - lovely and creamy. Nice and friendly with relaxed atmosphere.

From the moment we walked in we were made most welcome by the staff and our young baby was catered for. We sat round the back by the counter which was nice and private. Best coffee I've had for a long time and the cakes and pastries on the counter yummy. I had a Sicilian sauage roll which was very tasty. Will certainly return. Handy for the RSCH /Hospital.

After previously accepting 'OK' as the standard for cafe breakfasts, NECOT is my go-to for breakfast/brunch. They Really Get it Right. Good toast, good vegi options, good meat (i've tried both), good coffee, and for roughly the same price as all of the **** ones I've been to in Brighton.

Visited twice in the last week for a big breakfast and latte to set us up for the day, I really like this wee coffee shop, the décor is lovely, staff are uber friendly and the food is well priced and good quality.

Always enjoy visiting here, as a very relaxed atmosphere: good background music (not too loud); choice of reading material; pleasant staff.

I was working in the area and I was in need of a caffeine fix so I decided to pop in here.

We regularly pop out for breakfast over the weekend and have tried loads of different cafes around Brighton. This is now our go-to place for breakfast/brunch as it is convenient for us in Kemptown, reasonably priced and really nice. The cafe itself is fairly small but bright and airy creating a nice atmosphere. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The food is well proportioned and well cooked. I definitely recommend the light veggie breakfast as it is the perfect size to fill you up without leaving you sluggish and manages that rare feat of not being greasy. However, if you are particularly hungry there is, as the name suggests, a larger option doubling up on many of the components. My favourite breakfast in Brighton.

Had to attend Brighton Hospital with my wife and had to wait an hour at lunch time before she could receive attention. We needed to find somewhere to eat and by extreme good fortune found Necot Coffee House. My wife had a very pleasant, tasty cheese and tomato toasty and I opted for an all-day breakfast with the addition of a portion of black pudding. My buttered toast was absolutely dripping with real butter, and the black pudding was as good as any I have ever had. Bacon, hash brown and sausage too were all of a very high standard. On top of all this the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. I'm sorry that I am unlikely to be in need of a meal in this same part of the world again but, should such an occasion arise, I would have absolutely no hesitation in returning to this little cafe! My sincere thanks to all concerned.

The cafe is stylish but a few things let it down. The toilet is at the rear of the shop down a couple of steps and you have to pass a mop, bucket and an industrial size bottle of bleach - please build a cupboard for this! The plaster is falling out of the side of the steps.

The layout of Necot is quite good. They've created an intimate venue in the small place by not cramming in too many table and chairs. It's clever how they've fitted most of the seating below the big windows which lets in lots of light. The drinks were fine, and the breakfast that the people at the table next to me had, looked good. It was a shame that they didn't have a bigger selection of home made cakes and light bites (as a previous reviewer had said that they were good) and it's quite common in most of the local cafes. I thought that the venue could be a real winner with a bit of a spruce up because sadly at the moment it looks quite tired.

An unexpected treat tucked away in Kemptown. Very good food, homemade cake and coffee..relaxed enough to sut and read the papers. Small so go early for a fab breakfast...friendly helpful staff too.

This little place is by far the best coffee shop in Kemp Town. Unlike most of the other places, it's totally unpretentious and the food is outstanding with a great selection on offer. Friendly staff and good service and the owner is a pretty impressive cook. It's a great place for just a coffee and a chat but it's also very good for lunch and breakfast - give it a try.

A strange name that hasn't enticed me in despite walking past numerous times, but today decided to pop in for a brunch. Nice light decor, pleasantly furnished, nicely style counter and a pleasant welcome. Excellently presented eggs benedict, served on really nice rye toast, excellent cappuccino (rare - very rare in the UK) and really nice service. Very nice chinaware. Really pleasant service. Recommended - will be back.
