Seis de nosotros cenamos aquí la noche del sábado. El menú era su comida típica de pub. Los aperitivos y platos principales eran todos muy buenos. No había espacio para los postres. El personal era agradable y eficiente. Nos gustaría volver.

We frequented this pub for the past 4/5 years and have seen the sunday lunches steadily go on a downward spiral. One time it was very hard to get a table but it seems recently its getting easier. We hadn't been for sunday lunch for out 4 months as the meal we had then was pretty tasteless, however with family visiting we thought we woyld give the benefit of the doubt and book again. The Red lion tends to focus on quantity not so much on quality now as the meat, weather pork or beef seemed to be cut very thin almost as if it was pre sliced (as supermarkets do), our waitress was very at tentative to our request for more gravy, even asking if anyone required any more (homemade) Yorkshire puddings. Bonus! Desert time arrived with mixed views however. One cheesecake, fine. One chocolate fudge, fine. Two sticky toffee puddings however, not fine. After passing it around the table for taste testing our friendly waitress suddenly changed tack with a reply to our `not being happy to pay for the two sticky puddings` being ` we have changed suppliers and everyone else enjoyed them, however I will knock one off the bill but the other has been eaten so it couldn't be that bad` taste test excuse cut no ice with this lady! The lady at the till did say she wouldn't charge for the two puddings but as (for once) I didn't pay the bill I have no idea if we were charged or not. This bar is local to me and I do enjoy a pint in the summer on the decking but for me and mine Sunday lunch is definitely off the menu!

Firstly, the food when it eventually arrived was very nice. Chicken breast (small), chips (small), chicken gravy (pathetically small), 2 miniscule cubes of cornbread - all for nearly £14. Portion control rules here & unless you have a voucher & then still is ridiculously expensive. A sharing mixed grill was £50. Steaks not much change from £30! Jesus, it's a chain. No atmosphere at all in the Horwich, Bolton branch. 1st & very much last visit. Came home & made some toast....twas still hungry.
