Nawaab - Huddersfield in Kirklees

Ordered a delivery, was a little late 10 mins but worth the wait. Food very nice, good plentiful portions. Cooked well and a nice spice. Would order again

We’ve tried so many curries in hudds and they always waver in quality big time. This is great value but consistently fabulous food, really nice, fast service & all 3 of us said ‘wow’ so there it is!

Please check your bill at the table before you pay TWICE NOW THEY HAVE ADDED A PAYMENT FOR A PICKLE TRAY TO OUR BILL! yes this is the second time and it is totally unacceptable because we didn't order a pickle tray we only ordered mango chutney and popadoms as me and my friend find the three courses too much so we just opt for 3 poppadoms, a portion of mango chutney, WHICH ALSO TASTED LIKE IT HAD BEEN WATERED DOWN and a main course with rice. I have noticed that a couple of the reviews mention the curry being or tasting watery well that was my experience last night when I ordered my chicken karai I did ask for it to be made slightly milder but in my experience to make it that way they had somehow watered the sauce down and I have requested a milder curry at other places and they don't add water they find some other way of making it mild it just spoilt the experience for me.

After living abroad for nearly 20 years we were visiting in the area and decided to go to Naawab as it was a restaurant we frequented on a regular basis while living in the UK. The food was just as good as it used to be and it was nice to find Ash, the Manager, still there and as welcoming as ever. A great evening and would always recommend.

We were staying locally and decided to grab a curry. I've eaten Indian food in India, we have Indian friends who cook for us, I cook Indian food myself and have eaten in many many restuarants from all manner of regions. It took ages for the food to arrive, so eventually by 8.20 p.m I was fairly hungry. The dish I ordered tasted like a tin of tomatoes with too much curry powder thrown into it, it was watery and not a Massala at all. The prawns were rubbery and over cooked. The Peshwari naan may as well have been a plain naan as zero flavour and it had too much salt in it. The pilau rice had no taste, and it was basically plain brown rice with 1 clove thrown in it. I've never in 40 years complained about an Indian meal as its always delicious, so this is a first. I was asked how our meal was so I was polite but honest as I couldn't finish half of it. It was met with a shrug. The service was polite but we won't be revisiting.

Nawaab has been my Indian of choice in Huddersfield for many many years, the staff are very friendly and the food is absolutely incredible!

This restaurant is one of our favourites. Food excellent and reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and efficient.

Just had a take away from Nawaab, we have eaten in the restaurant a few times but never had a take away. I will not go anywhere else in future. The website is easy to order off, the delivery driver was friendly and the food was red hot and just as good quality as when we ate in the restaurant. Absolutely first class

Visited last night for the first time in quite a while. Food was excellent. We shared a chicken platter to start followed by mushroom dansak and chicken haandi accompanied by the lightest garlic naans. Service was superb and we will be back again soon.

Decided to try there mixed grill starter... Arrived in time packaged well plenty of food But the chops where neck chops so tough meat..that cant be flash fried or grilled as it a tough cut of meat....chewy to the point of ghandis flip flop... Everything else was good but the meat was a cheap cut..and unfortunatly doesnt work unless its slow cooked

Well established indian restaurant, never had a bad meal. There with a mate from work, pickle tray and poppadoms, fish masala, chicken strips, for starters. Lamb Tawa and bombay aloo, mate had chicken something with rice, paratha, chapatis and drinks, £54. Not many diners at 6.30pm but started to get busy later on. Waiter's very good and efficient, nice atmosphere and relaxing. Thanks for a great meal guys.

Used to go here years ago and it was excellent, so much so that I took a huge detour from the M1 on a trip up north just to go back and enjoy it again. What a waste of time and money. Ordered a Lamb Tikka Jalfrezi, apparently they don't do Lamb Tikka so I settled for 'Lamb' instead. So far so good. The meal arrived and the disappointment began. Staff were far from attentive and certainly not friendly. There were various people who looked like they didn't work there but were wandering in and out of the kitchen. One of them was sat eating a takeaway, which should have been a huge clue! The 'lamb' I would describe as mutton, which wouldn't have been a problem as lots of curry houses serve mutton but it was just tiny, and I mean TINY, pieces of over stewed meat in a watery sauce. The onion rice and the jalfrezi were destroyed by the overuse of cumin and salt. It was VERY salty. I ate a lot of it because I had come a long way and was hungry but gave up on it in the end because frankly it was crap.I paid and left very unhappy. Why the poor review and why didn't I complain while I was there? Because once my food was on the table nobody came back to ask if everything was ok. Even when I paid, the guy who looked to be in charge still didn't take the opportunity to ask if I enjoyed my meal. There was no smile, no 'please call again', absolutely nothing. I would rate the service as being pretty much non-existent and the staff attitude as dismissive. The food was definitely poor and I for one will never go back.

We got a take-away from this restaurant and were very disappointed. The onion bhajis were unlike any we've ever tasted. They were "doughy" in the middle and inedible. The pilau rice was not as one would normally expect: it was not fragranced as described but was a light brown colour and "clumpy". Worst of all was the Chicken Murgh which was very watery and had the tiniest bits of chicken imaginable in it. It was a sort of pinky colour and it tasted off. It too was inedible.

Went here yesterday, could not fault the food at all, it was gorgeous. The only thing I could carp about was the very loud music played until about 7.30pm which made conversation difficult. That said, the food is absolutely lovely and that's really why you go to a restaurant in the first place.

We ordered a takeaway and our usual choices were very poor Watery, tasteless and no spice at all Messaged them to say my £47 was a wasted cost on this occasion and expected some sort of response but heard nothing ! Clearly need to find another venue 😵‍💫

A large group of us dined here on the sat 4 March. We had a lovely dining experience with friendly, attentive and polite staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was good value for money, good portion sizes and served at a nice pace. All food for each table came out together. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and has a cozy atmosphere. The toilets are downstairs (no disability access) but very clean and nicely decorated too. A nice finishing touch to the end of the main course was the hot lemon scented towels to clean your hands and the tasty chocs! I would highly recommend the “Nawaab experience” to anyone. Thanks team Nawaab…..you were great.

First impressions good as some of mixed starter (lamb chop) quite nice. However, main of madras (my go-to dish of last 30 years) was dreadful. Inedible; weird pink sauce with finely diced meat of some sort. Bread to eat it with didn’t arrive until everyone else finished. Manager suggested I didn’t want to eat it because I must have been full before I arrived!

Great food, friendly welcome, excellent service as usual and value for money. Rita says she's been coming since it opened and wouldn't think of going anywhere else for our curry club get together.

Visited recently mid week. Very disappointed. Order mixed grilled starter.well it certainly was grilled more like incinerated. Main course very poor, two of the chicken curries had clear water running off in the terrines which denotes one thing microwave. They could of at least finished...

This place is great for a consistentlly good standard of curry. I've never had a bad one yet. I can't say I've tried many dishes as I usually ordereither Chicken Karahi, or Pathia/ Pattia ( however you spell it ).But the Karahi is ALWAYS piping...

We ordered our meal to only be given the wrong order; with a lot of our items missing including our drinks and one of our curries. We rang and complained to only be given they the wrong curry. Food is nice but expected better.

Take out for 2 tonight, never lets me down or fails to supply the most delicious meal would highly recommend

As I write this I have a feeling of total satisfaction. Having ordered our food for 6.45 we waited in anticipation and then at 6.45 the bell rang on time smelling great was our food. I cannot praise them enough the food was exactly as it is in the restaurant we ate every single morsel the only thing I could complain about was that I wasn’t eating it in the surroundings of the restaurant but I know that will happen again soon so thanks again for a wonderful curry

We have been ordering takeaway from Nawaab for some time now and without doubt they’re hands down the best takeaway in the UK that we’ve experienced. The food is consistently good which is important and the meat is always succulent and tender. Unfortunately an item was missed on our last order and after a brief phone call it was sent out to us. We were happy to wait so warmed the oven ( as per the reheat instructions on the box ). The extra item arrived within 30 mins accompanied by two complementary beers - impressed!Thanks again to Nawaab for rectifying the mistake professionally - we will continue to order from you.

We were really disappointed in our takeaway from Nawaab, having ordered a few times from here (and we even ate out in the restaurant on Christmas Day a couple of years back)! There were SO many issues with the meal, so here are a few 'highlights' ...The mega mix starter was literally all dumped together into a bag, mixing veggie onion bhajis with meat starters, meaning that the vegetarian in our group couldn't have the bhajis. The lamb chops (also part of the starter) were honestly as tough as old boots, and were all left. Next time (not that there will be one) I would have asked for the various components to be packaged separately). Talking of packaging, the cheap cardboard and foil containers might be eco-friendly (sort of), but they're not fit for purpose as they leaked horribly.The chicken tikka starter was under-cooked in parts (as were a few pieces of the tandoori chicken main), which is unforgivable!!! The food was all lukewarm, and - even though our order arrived about 10 mins early - we were clearly one of a few deliveries, and drew the short straw in terms of the temperature of the food.The lamb nihari was, on the other hand, really tender but there was a lot of sauce (so it ended up being a bit wet on the plate). First of all, the restaurant itself has a beautiful and very clean interior. The staff are extremely friendly, always smiling and bring happiness to all customers.Secondly, the food is EASILY one of the most phenomenal foods to have been served in a restaurant, and this is coming from someone who has easily eaten in hundreds, if not thousands of restaurants from cities and states from all over the world. During the coronavirus lockdown, the tables were very well spaced out, always cleaned (including the chairs and menus), and hygiene ratings were incredible, with all staff members wearing face masks and handling everything with great care. In conclusion, this IS one of the greatest restaurants, with the most exceptional foods, drinks and amazing staff members. Definitely a 10/10, and you cannot change my mind.

We were a party of 4(keen to take advantage of the government discount),i had booked a table for 7.30 when we arrived we had to wait outside in the rain for quarter of an hour when we got inside we found that their was a total disregard for social distancing and hygiene ie no ventilation,tables and chairs uncleaned,tables in exactly the same cramped position prior covid-19.we gave our order,after an hour and 5 minutes we were still waiting for our first course , i approached a manager and told him if it wasn't forth coming in the next 5 minutes we would be leaving, low and behold 2 of the starters appeared cold dried up and inedible enough was enough off we went never to return

Went out with the family. Our group of 5 inc 1 vegetarian all enjoyed our meal. The service was good too

After not being here for years, on recommendations from friends we decided to go. The starters were amazing and big portions - fish masala, onion bhaji's and mushroom pakora's. Cheap as well! I went for the vegetarian thali. It was really tasty and big enough for 2 people. The chicken chilli chicken was a bit on the sweet side but over all a fantastic meal, fresh and will definitely be back.

Came here with my partner and his 12yr daughter and my 1yr old son. The staff are very friendly and polite and the restaurant is very clean and welcoming. The food is beautiful and affordable. I got the Lamb Balti and it was the best one I've had for a long time, better than the one in Akbars. Lovely evening meal. Will be coming back!

Always come here when visiting Huddersfield. Probably the best curry house in the area. Staff friendly and efficient. Food always first class, this visit no exception, despite a very large party of about 30 people eating as well. First time we have had the early bird menu, excellent value for money.

It was our first time for me and my 3 friends,The sevice and wait excellent nice people and surroundings.Food was average,2 of us was disabled and was not suitable for the disabled, No Disabled toilets, if you wantered to go to the toilet it was 3 Flights of stairs with a hand rail at one side only,wheelchair impossible,No grab rails on way in to assist you to enter,Two of the four who was disabled ask a waiter where Disable toilet,His reply was there isn’t any, But I’ll give you a FIRE MANS lift if you need Togo, Not The Answer you expecept, so will NOT BE GIONG AGAIN

Impromptu meal out with wife, who was returning from a business trip. Not our first visit here and as usual, the staff were welcoming and helpful. It was quite early but the place was buzzing - the early bird menu might have had something to do with that!

Been going here on and off since being a student in Huddersfield many years ago. It was good back in the day and was excellent when we visited on a Saturday night a couple of weeks go. Very impressed with food and atmosphere.

Recommended and taken by a friend, who advised this was the best in Huddersfield.

Dined here a few times and they keep getting better. Lovely & tasty meal, all of us enjoyed our choices.

Came to dine for the early bird menu, pickle tray and poppadoms, chicken masala and nawabi chicken. Very tasty food, good beer on draft. Would have ordered off the main menu but wasn’t offered it. Cheers

The food was a tasty treat, we are from the daily 17:00-19:00 earlier menu, all the kids was satisfied, you get a starter n main with a side for only £12pp bargain for family, friends or date night and the food was excellent(an that's from a family that are particularly funny when it comes to meals out!

Fancy a curry in Huddersfield town centre. Then look no farther than Nawab. Authentic and great value. 3 course 11.95 includes tea or ground coffee with mint chocolate. Very attentive staff

On arrival we were met by friendly staff, who showed us to our table. The staff were really friendly throughout our visit. Unfortunately the ladies toilet was under renovation so everyone had to use the male toilets, which had been re-branded as a unisex toilet, but only had one toilet. The food was great and reasonably priced. The portions were large and was very hot and tasty, unlike other places. I will definitely visit again.

In my opinion probably the most authentic dishes, all with their own individual flavours, many Indian restaurants appear to have a basic pot into which they throw different herbs and spices to create alternative dishes which are very often quite gloopy. I have not visited every establishment in Huddersfield it is fair to say and people will obviously have their own favourites, this just happens to be mine.

Visited on the recommendation of a barmaid and was not disappointed. A good choice for vegetarians and meat eaters. Food was tasty and service was great.

Lovely food for a reasonable price. Staff very helpful and patient. Went there with a couple of friends who never tasted Indian before. Even they loved it. Had a range of starters and mains. Everything was very tasty.

Not the best, not the worst. Disconcertingly prompt arrival of food. Starters were good (chicken tikka in particularly was delicious). Mains very disappointing. We have definitely had better meals in many other places.

The food here never fails to deliver. It’s top quality and arrives fast and hot and served with a smile. This is a place that never fails in my opinion. The food is great, the service is great and the price is great. I’m always impressed at Nawaab. They have the basic elements of a great eatery to perfection.

Food is amazing. Lamb curry is good. Indian draught is wonderful. The staff is supportive. The bar girls are lovely.

Can never find a decent curry to be delivered , always bland and cold . Tried Nawaab last night , was £9 more than we normally pay but it was well worth it . Arrived on time in a special delivery box and food was even hot . Would recommend all dishes we had as all tasted fresh and hot . Will definately be using again and the chicken liver was to die for beautiful !! Not the cheapest but definately the best . Really enjoyed it !!

A great relaxing and enjoyable night out for 4. The meals are large so be prepared to share one between two. Staff are most helpful if you are not familiar with their menu.

Every year without fail we ALWAYS book here for our family Xmas get together.

Absolutely fantastic no complaints. Staff were friendly and attentive. We were a party of six adults and teenagers. Huge choice on the menu and very clear for allergy suffers, we needed gluten free and peanut free which was easy to select and choose.

Over the last 15 years we have made a few visits to nawaab. Yesterday will be our last. Has the long standing chef left? there must have been half a chicken breast chopped up in my curry . My husband's curry was poor in flavour too. The naan tasted weirdly sour and was burnt at one side. It was the worst naan I have had. I felt ripped off. The flavours are just not there anymore. Sadly we went for my daughters birthday which was disappointing. We just won't ever go there again.

The staff are genuinely lovely here, which makes writing this review hard. But the truth is the food is poor. Very poor. I had four vegetable dishes and each one was veg in the same tomato based sauce even the tarka dal which had to be the worst version of this dish I have ever eaten. It was simply lentils ina tomato and onion sauce. So, yes not tarka dal at all. The rest, the paneer the potatoes and the spinach were again the named veg in a bland tomato and onion sauce. The nan was okay tbh. Oh and they offer a 2 for 1 on mains on a Monday night - but don’t honour that. A huge disappointment. And definitely one to avoid

My wife and I have visited this place on many occasions and have enjoyed some lovely meals. Sadly tonight proved to be one of the worst meals we have had for a long time. The food was hot and bland with no taste of spices. The chicken was not tikka the rice and the chapatis were tasteless and the chapaties were small. It'll be a long time before we visit this venue again

Food came after a hour which they did say. We ordered the chicken tikka masala (Asian style) Normally this would give it a bit more spice and defiantly full of flavour. Unfortunately when this arrived it was very very bland with about 4 pieces of chicken in it which was a joke. There was more flavour in a tinned tikka jar from Asda than they was in this curry. Really expected better. My first and last ordering from here.

Brought the family for a meal out, quite definitely the best curry we’ve had - which says a lot since our local town only seems to have curry houses :-). Delicate and unusual flavours- just great!

Visited with 16 colleagues for my leaving do. Food, service, good humour and banter excellent as always. I have never been disappointed in any visit over many years. Can't wait to go back soon.

This was my third visit to Nawaab. It’s consistently good for the quality of food and service. We come early and take advantage of a three course fixed price offer, which only adds to the reasons we come!

Visited with a group of friends and enjoyed an excellent meal. Service great, starters from special board top notch, mains delicious. We shared the mains and tried a Tawa main also which I shall have to myself next time. Highly recommended.

Unusual idea for a wedding reception but it worked and it worked very well. Gorgeous food and excellent staff.

The food was very good - not EXCEPTIONAL as far as Huddersfield Indian cuisine goes - but very good. The staff are friendly and efficient. The only let down for me was the complete lack of energy in the place. Staff would rarely smile between their visits and the place was close to silent! Would still recommend though.

This is one of the Indian restaurants we like the usually it is very busy. Food has never disappointed us we keep going back.

Chose here as not been for a while and the last time we visited it was very nice.

Had a takeaway. By the time we got it, it was cold . The garlic Nan was dry and didn’t tast of garlic very bland. The chicken curry was watery. For the price we paid for it, we expected better. Won’t be in a hurry to go back.

Early bird menu just average , wasn’t the wow factor , staff are very attentive polite and on the ball, the starter shami kebab was far too dry chapattis too thick , like mine to be almost see through . Just OK I’m afraid

I went with a few friends on a snowy Friday night and it was still busy. The service was good but I was sat under a speaker which became a little annoying after a while. My food was very average and the main was so oily I couldn't eat it.

We've been coming here as a family for over 15 years and while it's fair to say Huddersfield has it's fair share of Indian restaurants, Nawaab is definitely our favourite and we always look forward to visiting (at least once a month!).

Ive eaten at Nawaab a number of times over the years but this was the most disappointing. The service was slow often with several of us having finished our food before the rest of the table had even received theirs. The mint sauce served with the popadom pickle tray was tasteless, bland and had the consistency that aroused my suspicious that it had been diluted down. Im used to minted raw onions in my pickle tray but these werent available. . The onion bhajis were as hard through and through as a cricket ball and not very appetising. However the chicken tikka starters were lovely, tasty and succulent. I asked for my curry to be asian style adding more spice to my dish but this wasn’t the case. However was average in taste but didn’t enjoy due to the mint sauce and the chapatti problem. The chicken tikka curry was great though. The chapattis were too think and inconsistent in shape and depth, i prefer a much lighter chapatti. Some dirty cutlery and plates. Jugs of water sparce, given out at a jug at a time when 3 jugs would have been better.
