Naseeb @ The Clowes in Leicester

BIG improvement on all fronts, Head waiter is now friendliness and politeness personified; a complete about-turn: this time he could not do enough for us! The food itself was fabulous, not cheap (£4 for a Coke, extra £1 charged for the pickle tray when it's normally provided free with poppadoms) but the main dish, ChickenTikka Tawa was out of this world; best meal ever eaten there. One thing you can rely on at Naseeb @ the Clowes is that the food is always served piping hot; and the comfortable new chairs throughout the restaurant (long overdue) were much appreciated. This venue did have a major 'dip' in terms of hospitality; and with its return to form I am hopeful that now it has turned the corner; thank you and look forward to many more visits!

The food here isn’t that great and flavourful. Won’t be going here next time.

Very good food and had a good time however because it was busy, it took a bit of time for our food to come out and get asked what we want to eat.

The only place where you get proper garlic nan breads and authentic currys in the heart of Leicester Melton Road

Hasn't been the same since the latest owners, years on and they still struggle to run the restaurant. Prices do not reflect quality, nor quantity of the mediocre food.

Avoid going to this place under any circumstances. Customer service as well as food is absolutely rubbish. Tastless food and below average customer service. Staff as well as chef have no clue about flavour and curry type. It all tastes the same. The vindaloo was full of red chilli powder, the butter chicken was mixed with coconut milk and turmeric which you can taste through. Prakash does not seem to want to take feedback on board to improvise service, instead will argue that the food their cooking is how its supposed to taste. We had to send away our 3 main course dishes to get a replacement and the food ended up coming back tasting the same. Tasteless and not worthy of the bill we were served at the end. If you're paying £300 you'd expect a better service and decent food.

Last time we went here was before COVID. So thought we'd try it again. We had a table booked for 6.15pm so the place was quiet empty when we arrived. We were promptly sat. Services was pretty quick. Food was tasty, portions were generous. Price was reasonable. By the time we finished the place was full. Would definitely recommend a visit if you've not been.

Went in there on a Saturday evening, it was very quiet, only 2-3 occupied tables. The service was good, food wasn't great. I had a mixed grill, kebabs were extremely dry, couple of pieces burnt as they were very hard. The rest of the grill didn't taste great either. We ordered butter chicken and a paneer curry too, when they arrived they look a good decent size but then you realise it's only 10% meat/paneer, the rest is just sauce. Poor value for money and didn't taste great either.

Uses food colouring in food, very Oily food, rushed us through the orders and food. Beers were flat. Not a good experience overall

We've been coming to this restaurant for the past 10 years. Unfortunately, the food was too spicy and the sizzler wasn't charred. The curry didn't have the same flavour as previous visits. The chef has changed - sadly we won't be coming back to the Clowes.

Edit of a previous 5* review. Went today after a 6 month absence. Food did not taste the same. Waiter confirmed that the chef is a different one. Spice level was too high and the taste of the dishes was not the same as years gone. Sadly will not be returning

I visited this restaurant few days ago with my family and it's very nice place.

Excellent environment, friendly service, great menu choices and really decent food and at affordable prices... also the lady who served their customers with smiles..excellent service

We had a table booked for 10 people . We were rushed into ordering our starters then once we had eaten the starters we got told you must order your mains since you only have a 2 hour slot. We never got told when we entered the restaurant that you have 2 hour slot.

The food was ordered and the starters came out quite promptly however the mains took an additional 45 minutes after the table was cleared from the starters! Totally unacceptable. The curry’s were all the same even though different ones were ordered, so I can only assume that the same base was used with chicken, mince and fish. Would never visit again and would strongly recommend no one else does either.

Probably the best indian food in Leicester

This spot I’ve been going to for many years and the food is great aswell the portions of curry and Nan is bigger then normal . Today I decided to order on Uber eats . We got chicken kheema mix and veg sizzler with Nan . Never got any salad with the main dish or any sauces with the sizzler . But it was tasty and we enjoyed the flavours . Veg sizzler is better when u eat in as it’s fresh and don’t get too soggy .

We bought a takeaway, jeera chicken, mutter paneer and masala mogo they were all delicious but my only quibble is there wasn't enough peas otherwise it would have been 5 stars

Food is tasty now again as the past owners chief was not as good as this chief

Great place. Lovely curries and Sizzler mixed platter. Service was good with a nice homely atmosphere. Reasonably priced too! Will be back again.

Just had a great takeaway. Made the order a special sizzler paneer main lamb methi and 3 naans and a rice. Was ready in 30 min for pick up and was able to coerce some free poppodoms. The food was Indian spicy and finger licking. The Peshawari naan was the normal seero but was daddy and great to combat the spice Yes a bit oily but easy to remove lamb was soft chunks the sizzler was tasty and flavoursome. The paneer house style was also a family favourite. Glad we chose you thanks

Not been for years...was not disappointed. All the food was well seasoned..delicious and hot ie. Temp. The staff were brilliant..Goran, Ravi, Vinay to name few. Had family from Bolton and Ex-Kent...they also had a memorable experience. A big thank you and will definitely be going again.

Dined here tonight 31/3/2023 had a fantastic time, service was great and the food was excellent, the staff couldn't do enough to help you.

Excellent food, good portions, great service

Food takes about 1.5 hours to be made, whenever we get a takeaway there’s never mint yoghurt, no chilli sauce, no popadoms. Don’t usually complain but it’s beyond a joke now. Food is decent, staff are decent but that only takes you so far.

Fantastic curry spot. One of the few places where mains are as good as starters. They even have Patra on their mix veg sizzler which is a nice touch. The 3 type wing sizzler is finger licking amazing! Only reason l haven't given it 5* is because the service is a little slow and we had a lot of errors when we visited last time. This said, go for the food you won't regret it!

Really disappointing. We have eaten here previously and have been very impressed by the food but this was really awful, greasy and tasteless. Really bad.

Great place to hang out and good Indian food

This place is definitely worth visiting. The food is good and you get service with a smile. Staff are very friendly and they are willing to go the extra mile to please their customers.

Having heard great things about this venue we finally managed to get a table booked recently. The atmosphere was great, and very busy. We were seated quickly and our service during the evening was good. Our food was cooked well and piping hot. I would say that the starters were our favourite. Portions are generous here, and we saw many guests leaving with doggy bags. Parking is very tricky, so be prepared to hunt for a space nearby.

The food was very bland the kebabs were bone dry and the Jeera chicken dry and definitely not jeera chicken some sort of red paste on the chicken !! Very disappointing quality of food generally

Nice modern family friendly restaurant the food was hot and fresh with good portion size. The waiters were friendly with the drinks and food order. Sometimes it be good to have some separation between the bar and restaurant but that's just my opinion worth a visit.

Nice pub turned restaurant. Been there few times and food has been good. Servers variety of curries and starter. Fish is good and so was the chef special curries. However, more than one occasion I have had stale pint. Not sure how they storing their cags but something's not right. However, they were happy to swap it. Parking is free on the street but hard to find art most times.

Tasty authentic food. Good portion sizes, however the main course curries were too oily. Nice ambience and lovely staff, kept a check on us. Paan was refreshing and cool. Parking can be a bit tricky at peak times.

The place is not so good and sitting area is also worst. I worked inside the kitchen as a staff and there is no proper hygiene norms. Food are mostly frozen one which served for 3 or 4 days. Staff is working insanely and they are not following any health and safety rules into the premises. Mostly students are working or immigrant works here however the owner is giving £5 cash in hand and making a fake pay slips for their employees and cheat with the government.

Don't order crispy bhaji as they were really oily. Unfortunately the menu is limited in choices for mains especially if looking for vegetarian. If a meat eater then fine. Service was quick so a good one for the place.

Top quality authentic cuisine, great atmosphere, friendly/helpful staff. Service slightly on the slow side but don't mind waiting as the the food is amazing. Portion sizes are very generous

One of the best curry places in Leicester. Food always hot (temperature), perfect soft naans and friendly service. Great staff and service. We eat in sometimes but mainly takeaway as parking in area is difficult sometimes.

The food took over an hour to arrive by which time we had to leave. Most drinks also out of stock. We were told the chicken was off but they had just served us chicken in the starter. Next day I had diarrhea

Visiting Leicester and wanted to try some traditional Indian food, given its high Indian population. I asked a couple in the street for a recommendation. They pointed me towards Naseeb @ the clowes. I thought it was something like an Indian Weatherspoons. Pub with a restaurant attached. I was very much mistaken. The food was really nice, I had chicken pakoras to start, followed by a lamb on the bone curry with veg rice. The staff were friendly and the service that on occasion was a little erratic, was still really good. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.

Great food, good atmosphere. Main dishes are some of the best in Leicester. The classic Clowes and garlic chilli chicken are fantastic. Sizzlers are good but better can be found at others such as Indian Queen around the corner.

We booked this restaurant in huge excitement for my sister’s pre-wedding meal. The experience started with the waiter telling us how much food we should order, instead of suggesting. He then proceeded by lying to us about the portion sizes and saying it “won’t be enough” pressuring us to order more food. Once the food arrived, we realised it was too much food. The manager’s mannerisms were unprofessional and off putting, while having this meal we saw many customers come in and walk away due to his attitude and inability to handle basic customer requests, it was also quite clear that they’re unable to provide any type of acceptable customer service. I also believe that the food wasn’t as great as expected therefore safe to say you’re not missing out, and I won’t be going again.

Visited here once before & food, service & experience was excellent but last nights visit was appalling , drinks taken to wrong table, most of our mains was cold to lukewarm and when we complained the waiter complained that we had eaten some of the food and also tested our rice putting it in his hand to try. !! He went to take it & we asked for it to put in containers to take and heat up at home.. Really disappointed. Not sure if I will go back again 🤬

Table booked for 8.pm.we finally sat down around 9 pm started eating around 9.45 Couldn't enjoy myself or appreciate the food as we had to rush the meal. Disappointing evening out.

The table was booked for 8 pm but we didn't get seated until 8.30. The starter a veg and non-veg sizzlers were both lovely however the time between finishing it and receiving the main was way too long so much so that a person in our party had to leave and ask for her main to be packed to be taken away. When the mains eventually arrived one of the dishes were missing and by the time it came out everyone else had finished. The service was generally poor. I did complain and got a discount on our bill which was nice of the restaurant to honour.

Check the table, no mains served and we were here for over an hour an half, so we walked out and all the manager could say was sorry and wait longer! Their food maybe good but what's the point if you don't get it... try avoid for the time being. Also, one of the waiters was called Victor, and his service was TERRIBLE.

went on very busy Saturday night. food was fine but little things spoilt experience. the brown chairs we sat on nearly sank through the bottom. the tv changed from Bollywood to show a football game and volume was too loud . felt like being on a market at times.

Ordered via Deliveroo. Nan and Roti missing, rang Naseeb person on phone apologised sort of, said there was nothing he could do and put phone down. That said, the food was good quality. Complaint is not necessarily against Naseeb, fact is deliveroo can go wrong when they have several orders and cant put it right. Yes they give a refund but moment is gone.
