The service was very good both waiters helpful. The food was below standard, we had chicken which was rubbery and dry as if it was either overcooked or reheated. Octopus was very cold when served, felt like it came straight out the North sea, waiter asked kitchen staff and was told it wasn't frozen and that's how it's meant to taste (if prepared correctly it's meant to be tender) not like trying to chew into a leather wallet. Other food was actually alright just disappointed at what's mentioned

Came from Jersey to visit Glasgow for the first time, sushi was a must as Jersey prices are extreme for sushi. Got surprised with a all you can eat BBQ !! For the price the amount of food was worth it and could order much more !! The service was great and the atmosphere were simply perfect for this kind of meal, definitely will come back next time I'm up, recommend 100%

Around 9 years ago, I lived in Glasgow and came to Nanakusa at least twice a week. Here I am back in the city for a quick holiday and I always make sure to book dinner. Really miss not living close to this place. Agedashi tofu, avocado rolls, and yaki tempura never fails.

Conveniently located restaurant with good selection of sushi and cool Japanese sodas (Ramune). Sadly too many fried items on the menu but overall great dinner spot for lazy Sunday afternoon. On the flip side the restrooms need a good new refit as they seem to be from the 19th century.

The food was okay and duck was dry but sadly after eating I went to the rest room and was totally shocked at the state of the toilets. It was ground in dirt in all the corners of the toilets. When I say ground in, I mean utterly filthy. I will upload if I can. I can't even think about it because if this is the toilets what is the kitchen like 🥴

Delicious authentic Asian food with lovely and low-key servers. Had a great meal and one of the best Asian places so far in my European trip. Highly quality ingredients used and the green tea ice cream is actually a good quality matcha. Highly recommend for those looking for cheap and delicious Asian

I went here tonight with my partner as a friend recommended it. Fair to say it exceeded our expectations, we really enjoyed the atmosphere, the service and the food. Me and my boyfriend have been to many Japanese restaurants over the years, and this one is by far the most authentic and outstanding of them all. From the soft shell crab sushi and tempura, to the best miso soup we've tried, to the world class chicken katsu curry which was such an enormous portion - Nanakusa is a must visit restaurant in Glasgow. The staff were so friendly, easygoing and attentive as well which only adds to the experience - especially the man who welcomed us into the restaurant and initially took our order. Twice he said congrats to my boyfriend for graduating that day, which really shows how strong the hospitality is at Nanakusa.

I used to love coming here but sadly the staff were rude on a few occasions therefore I won’t be back. I really enjoyed the food but after a disappointing birthday dinner where the waiter got our order wrong then argued about it, I’ve left with a bad taste for this place!

Me and my sister have ordered from here for a really long time. Couple days back I went to collect and I got Chicken Gyoza, chilli beef noodles and prawn tempura sushi. These guys dont miss, except one time in maybe 40/50 where they gave us a full refund plus a re order. The chilli beef I got was so fantastically cooked I was shocked. I didnt want to put the food down, genuinely so easy to mess up beef strips, but it was crispy and so succulent. Top marks from me.

Went here with family to try the shabu shanu menu. No pics sadly but really enjoyed the experience and the fact it was something a bit different. The food was all delicious too. And the sushi was also really good.

Had not visited for quite some time, stopped by mid Saturday afternoon. Food was actually quite good, we both had bento boxes which were very enjoyable. Place I would say needs the decor freshened up a bit.

I loved the sushi here, it is absolutely delicious!! Alongside the takoyaki & the Katsu curry. Generous portion sizes. A little bit lacking in atmosphere when you go inside, no music, and a bit cold. However, the food is great so you don’t mind it too much! It was empty, and it definitely shouldn’t be with the good quality of sushi on offer there!! I’ll be back to try more on their menu 👏🏻

I love the food n its not expensive. The only problem I have with the place is its bathrooms facilities they could be doing with more attention. As in making sure they are in proper working order, cleaned more regularly and making sure there's soap for customers to use. Its the only fault I could find.

The food was tasty and was served in a timely manner. The staff were all friendly but service after the food was delivered was a bit 'meh' and we had to go to the till ourselves to pay the bill.

Haven’t been here in years and had a spur of inspiration to return recently as we were attending the theatre nearby. The food was absolutely gorgeous, I can’t recommend it enough. We had a starter and a main each and we left very happy, will definitely be back!

Great bento box option here! The special bento box is such a great surprise, it came in such a huge portion with nigiri, maki, ebi tempura and chicken teriyaki! The chicken teriyaki is soo good, genuinely surprised by that, it’s slightly crispy and I loved it! The sushi were great and gyu don is my friend’s favourite, so if you like beef and onions go give it a try! Plenty of seating inside and a variety of things from the menu you can choose from. Great price for the portions. Great service from Kenny. Would recommend this place to Japanese food lovers!

Nanakusa was our go to restaurant for a few years, times are tough so we haven't been to them in a year or so. I understand prices must go up, but we were disappointed to find out that the BBQ all you can eat is now £35 instead of £25. I couldn't find this updated info when I looked online. The sushi is now only 5 portions of sushi per person, instead of all you can eat like it used to be. This is actually a lot of sushi but it put a damper on our mood as it isn't really as advertised anymore.

Easily the best Japanese food in the city center, and value for money. They provide gigantic portions which I struggled to finish, and the food tastes excellent 👌 Reminded me a lot when I was back in Japan. Atmosphere was nice and quiet, they deserve more customers but they're far out. Highly recommend you trek out to visit this place!

Came here for dinner, the inside of the restaurant is a little bit dark but it has a very chill atmosphere which is nice. I really enjoyed their chicken katsudon and pumpkin korokke and the portions were pretty good! Their menu had a great selection as well. Food was served quickly and the staff were also really friendly and attentive.

It is a really great place, food is amazing, and we had the best service, the Owner Neil was really kind. We totally recommend it!!

My family aren't mad about Japanese food so I decided I'd go to a Japanese place with great reviews and this was the one that kept coming up time and time again. I had a bad feeling as I walked towards it because it looks pretty shabby on the outside. There was a sign saying how it won some culinary award in 2013(?) so I went in. I wasn't the only person there but it was almost empty. The menu was nothing special - the kind of thing you'd get in Yo Sushi or any of those places. I ordered the Bento box because it's hard to go wrong with that. Apart from the sushi, everything else was deep-fried. The teriyaki chicken, some odd sweet potato cake, the prawns, etc. Everything tasted like those party food trays you get at Christmas in Tesco when they're trying to be posh. On the plus side, I didn't leave hungry and I couldn't finish everything. The place definitely needs a refresh as ten years since their award, they have a lot of work to do.

We had a lovely time here. Lovely food, very tasty. Service was great, however our re order of wine seemed to be forgotten but arrived after pointing it out (happens). Chicken Katsu was superb.

We have been here several times over the years and always have the Nanakusa spicy chilli noodles with duck. It has always been absolutely amazing. Washed down with some lovely green tea. My favourite lunch always. We will definitely be coming back for more. I'm pleased you changed the seating as the low back benches were so uncomfortable. Keep up the great work.

Our food tasted really bad, sub average. We didn't have any sushi - so maybe that is better. The miso soup was disgusting. The tempura was really soggy and had possibly just been re-heated. Also, no dipping sauce so about as authentic as fake grass. Deep fried soft shell crab also really poor. All still repeating on me - many hours later. Service was partly desultory. The Asian waiter was good but the western one seemed totally disinterested in his work and showed poor understanding of hygiene. A totally complacent restaurant.

Nanakusa is always great - on this visit we had the sushi special and it was amazing, so fresh and delicious. We couldn’t believe how reasonably priced it was - we would have expected sushi this good to be way more expensive! I’d recommend the eel nigiri!

Lovely Japanese Noodle Soup on a very lively street in Glasgow. Super nice place to take a breath and sit down to have some food. Of course it is not authentic Japanese food but it is nonetheless close to it and still very delicious. If you happen to be on that street, feel free to stop by if you crave for some japanese food.

Came here years ago and was great and lively, now it’s empty and freezing had to keep my jacket on the whole time, we asked nicely if the place could be warmed up but got a condescending answer they advertise all you can eat sushi but when I got there they told me it’s limited to hot pot and five portions of sushi, price does not reflect quality, the sushi rice was hard and the seaweed was rubbery, all of the items I ordered tasted stale, the service was not great either didn’t feel accommodated and didn’t help that no server had a uniform so couldn’t even tell who was working there or not. Interior was very outdated but the drinks were ok!

Really good Japanese restaurant. Would recommend. Staff were excellent in guiding food combinations if your not too familiar with Japanese. Was willing to take the time with us and make recommendations. One of which was hot sake which I highly recommend.

Love the chill ambience of this place, staff are always friendly and attentive with really fast service. The food is always spot on and especially like the spicy noodle soups. UPDATE: I've recently went back for lunch after a few months since my last visit and the business appears to have changed hands from the Japanese lady who previously ran it to a new Chinese owner and the man was keen to rush me into making an order before the kitchen closed, presemibly to save on staff costs. The quality of the food has taken a serious drop and there is some cheap deal menu and everything felt bland and watered down. There was an introduction of hotpot and BBQ tables which most new Chinese establishments seem to be doing lately and very poorly in my opinion.

Went there three times whilst visiting Glasgow, great for lunches and dinner, always impressed! Friendly staff, good selection of sushi and other Japanese dishes. Reasonably priced and very busy which is a great sign.

Awful experience (hotpot/bbq/sushi for £35pp as opposed to £25 as advertised). Most of the meat was poor quality and the sushi was honestly the worst we've ever encountered (see picture). They also "ran out" of seabass when we asked for more (which was actually tasty). Apparently the same chef who works in E-sushi in the West End (one of our favourite sushi restaurants in Glasgow) also made these. If so, I have no idea what direction they're getting from management that resulted in these rice ball abominations.

We came for my nephew's 16th birthday and he had a great time trying new food and learning to use chopsticks. The food is always amazing here, the spicy chilli noodles are some of the best noodles I've ever had. The staff are so helpful; I accidentally left my bag and the waiter ran out in the cold to give it to me, for which I'm so grateful. Best quality for value sushi and Japanese food in Glasgow. Truly a gem.

They bait & switched the menu after arrival - the £25 per person barbecue is £35 now. They had the time to redesign it and print it out but not upload the pdf to their website? Nah. Not buying that. The new menu also had less variety. The staff forgot part of our order three times. They were out of several things. Pretty hard to get their attention as they made themselves pretty scarce. Was pretty unclear as to who was taking orders and who was just on clean-up duty. Used to be my favourite place, I don't think I'll be going back as it's just more expensive, lower quality, and an all round stressful experience I was happy to be over with when we left. I went and got a chippy down the road after so I'd actually have enough food in me after spending £70 for 2 people.

This was our first time visiting, we will definitely be back. We were the first customers of the day, and although the restaurant was very quiet, it still felt comfortable, friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and the staff were really polite and kind. We are looking forward to our next visit. Thankyou.

Always a nice place to go to. Though sometimes when empty it can feel sad. But this time a kids birthday party and all the fun of that had the place jumping. Everyone is always so friendly and you really feel welcome.

My Japanese friend who used to study in University of Glasgow recommend this is one of the top Japanese restaurant in UK. It is true. Staffs are nice and friendly. Especially, Scottish Salmon is amazing. Price is affordable. Thank you very much.

I think I've learned the veggie parts of the menu by heart, we go here so often. Always treated like celebs and the food is consistently outstanding. My favourite place in Glasgow. Can't recommend it highly enough.

The veggie / vegan choices here are fabulous and the service was so fast. Food was amazing and so fresh! Cocktails were lovely and staff were very polite and accommodating. Cost us less than £45 for 2 cocktails, 2 beers, 3 starters, 2, mains and a side with lots leftovers to take home. Will definitely be back soon and highly recommend.

First time using this delivery service, and very definitely the last. The tofu was undercooked and not crispy as given to expect from the menu. It was served in sauce which was more like a congealed jelly, and tasted discussing. The main corse Amia Udon, did not contained what I was lead to expect from the menu, it was said to contain egg which it didn’t and was full of red peppers. Most of the food went into the bin. What a waste of money.

Favourite Japanese restaurant in Glasgow.

I used to order from them a lot but now, I would never ever recommend this place to anyone again especially if you are ordering from them via deliveroo. After waiting for like an hour and had to call them to check, their driver just finally came without even apologising and acting so arrogant. SAFE YOURSELF AND EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE

First of all, I can understand that sometimes restaurants have a bad day but based on other similar reviews I would say it's no excuse then. No one explained that you have to order from the app only so no way to pay cash or this wasn't explained to our table. The food itself arrived promptly, except for the dragon roll which came at the very end when nearly everyone nearly finished eating. Drinks came out rather slow, nearly finished eating before it came out and I was rather thirsty and didn't want to make a fuss as there was only the manager who was there and another that only ran food out. Couple things that were ok, the eel rice and taroyaki were ok. But the fish didn't seem fresh as shown in the picture and one tasted off. The rice also didn't seem fresh and was about stale. Out of all the Japanese restaurants we've been to in Glasgow which is 5 or so, I'd have to rank this as lowest.

First of all, no one told us that you can only order from the app and you have to pay it straightaway, no way to pay cash or this wasn't pointed out. The fish in the platter and rice doesn't seem fresh and i speculate was made far earlier hence not fresh, i had to spit one of them out cause it tasted so bad. Not everything was bad, the eel and rice was the only nice thing about it. Having been to alot of Japanese restaurants in Glasgow, i would have to rank Nanakusa as the worse we've been to so far and will very unlikely to return.

We were really disappointed with the food at this restaurant. I don't expect for £5 tesco sushi to be fresh, but when I pay such money for it in the restaurant, it should be at least fresh. Sushi/nigiri were very obviously pre-cut and dried up. Calamari were sparse, super salty and likely not cooked from fresh (looked frozen from the texture). This is not a level of quality a decent Japanese cuisine restaurant should be having. Also tables were sticky and it only made whole experience worse. The only thing that was somehow OK was house plum wine. PLEASE consider respecting the cuisine your doing and offer freshly cut sushi to the visitors.

Food poisoning risk: The sushi was COOKED in both bento boxes. It's supposed to be eaten raw and since it is in the same box as the hot food it got steamed and is unsafe. I didn't eat it as it smelled horrible and eating cooked sushi is a serious food poisoning risk.

Best chicken Katsu Curry I’ve ever had!

Great food. Gets a good crit from my wife who lived in Japan for a year.

Don't bother with the BBQ. Jay's bar grill is better in that aspect.
