I’m happy to say this was one of the finest pub lunch experiences I’ve had. The welcome was just exceptional. Kind, warm, engaged. The food was the finest. The salad with croutons, brilliant. We newly live an hour from the pub and didn’t know what to expect but there’s no doubt we’ll return again and again by ourselves, with friends and with family. This is the place I’ve been waiting for. Just a great time was had. Family business at its best. Blown away by the customer service. Well done!

This pub is everything Britain is on the cusp of losing. We had a friendly welcome, and a table by the window with room for our puppy. The lovely lady behind the bar suggested a non-alcoholic drink for me which was delicious. Usually I have to have a Diet Coke! We were also offered a bowl of water for our dog. The menu was varied and traditional which is what we wanted. Our food was ridiculously good, just like mum/nan used to make. My steak pie was comforting and rich, and the treacle and walnut tart was not needed but definitely wanted. The atmosphere at The Nag’s Head is friendly and relaxed, the service was faultless and it had such a home from home feel. We would go back in a heartbeat. Please support the pubs of this country, we are at risk of losing what is great about Britain. Thank you to the Key Family and staff who made our lunchtime the best we have had in ages.

The staff at the pub are very friendly, welcoming and attentive which was lovely. They made us feel very welcome. We thought they had the best menu in Usk. The fish cakes actually tasted of fish. The pancakes were lovely too. Very clean, tidy and welcoming pub. Thank you.

Lovely atmosphere, very warm welcome and full of wonderful artefacts. Plenty of choice on the menu, especially happy to see several vegetarian and vegan choices. Hubby had steak pie, I had Glamorgan sausages, several choices of potatoes/chips and veg or salad. The food was delicious and the service from the 2 ladies was excellent. We’ve already planned another date and invited friends to join us.

Atmosphere - very bland. No music, lots of clutter, funky smell as you walk in, gives the impression of not so clean. Food - very stodgy and fried. Didn’t want to finish it. Service - the lady was very pleasant but the gentleman was not so keen to engage in pleasantries and sat watching his phone most of our stay. He also had very specific rules regarding what was and wasn’t permitted I.e one couple that came in for a drink were told they couldn’t stand at the bar to drink and only given the choice of one table to sit at even though plenty of others were free.

I have come from the North West of England with my fiancé and the bar man was the rudest and most intolerant man I've ever encountered 😤 He took offence from me saying yes please fill up my orange lad which is clearly a northern colloquialism and even after explaining this he still insisted we leave! Never been so insulted in all the places we have visited, which are many, totally unacceptable behaviour in this day and age xx

My wife and I had food at the Nags Head last Friday evening. We received a warm welcome as soon as we entered the pub. We had arrived early and while we were presented with the menus we asked if we could wait a short while before ordering, which was not a problem.Good choice of beers available. Our starters consisted of baked goats cheese with chutney & crab cake with sweet chilli. Main meal was home made steak pie & chips, and half a chicken in red wine and mushroom sauce, sautéed potatoes with rosemary and salt. One dessert - banana flambé with brandy and cream and vanilla ice cream.Every dish was a good proportion of excellent, tasty, home cooked food. Between and during each course the owners were checking that we were happy with our food - very attentive without being intrusive. We would highly recommend eating at the Nags Head but book a table in advance as there were people being turned away as it was full.

Taking a stroll around Usk chanced on the Nags Head around lunchtime. 4 of us popped in for a quick lunch. Never no been in here before even though we only live 10 miles away. All social distancing, masks etc were observed by everyone. Made to feel very welcome by a couple of smiley young ladies. Good start! This was the last few days before the pub was closing due to Welsh Covid regs. Shame because its a waste of a cosy venue.Lovely lunch menu, far more expanded one would expect at these virus times.Loads of choices, ranging from whitebait starters to partridge stuffed with almonds.Certainly enough to fill your face of a lunchtime.Drinks and food served very promptly and presentation was A1. Cannot fault the experience here at all. Will be back againsome time in the New Year depending.......!A trifle expensive but understandable in the current climate.Good luck to the owners post Covid.

The Nag's Head is a proper pub. They keep real beer as well as an extensive selection of other drinks. You'll be welcomed in before the door is closed behind you. It's a genuine welcome, matched with prompt and friendly service. Their menu caters for all tastes. It's my first choice for lunch whenever I stop in Usk. You know as soon as you taste their food that it is freshly prepared and served up directly from the kitchen. Quality food and well kept beer wins a truly deserved "highly recommended" vote from me. As many other reviewers can attest, the ladies who wait upon the tables are both cheery and helpful; all of which makes for an excellent pub experience. You'll need to search far and wide to find another pub that can equal The Nag's Head for food, drink, service and comfort!

It was my 60th birthday, celebrated with family the night before, this was just myself and my husband to finish the birthday weekend. Booked a table no problem. Small car park nearby, free to park. The Nag's Head was warm and very cosy, the landlord/Owner so friendly and helpful it was hard to leave. He really makes you feel like one of the family. The food, so hard to choose from, so much choice, home cooked food. I had the renowned homemade pie, with chips and vegetables, the portion was huge, so tasty, nicest chunky steak pie i have ever tasted. Left room for Key Lime Pie, with Vanilla ice cream, homemade, the ice cream was so nice i could of eaten more, we had drinks and a liquor coffee to finish. The pub has a warm friendly feel, not overly full, which was so nice. I couldnt rate it highly enough. If you are in the area you have to go, i highly recommend it. Lovely food, not expensive, huge portions, and an homely atmosphere. Wonderful. Thank you

What makes a great business is generally it’s people. What a wonderful traditional family run pub, great food, great prices and fantastic friendly service. Out walking our dog in USK we were looking for some where dog friendly to have a meal in the evening and bumped into the owner and some of his family as I was looking at the menu. The welcome was enough to convince us to come back in the evening with the dog. The steak pie was delicious and even managed a pud, all the staff were absolutely charming and sure the dog had a bowl of water. This family run free-house pub is friendly and comfortable, with a great menu that doesn't change much (in a good way). The emphasis is on game - the rabbit pie is excellent and such delights as duck, guinea fowl, partridge and pheasant are regular stars, but there are also many veggie alternatives such as Glamorgan sausages and Lllandenny bake. The puds are good too if you've got room for them.

Disappointing, we had high hopes but the quality and presentation just weren’t there. The locally Wye smoked salmon was served in thick slices and was good but the sardines just didn’t hit the mark. The steak pie was OK but the precooked half chicken and duck were falling off their bones into a soup of bland indistinguishable sauces. The fries were fine but the turnip and broccoli were well past their sell by date and had been sitting out for the previous 2 hours. The ice cream was delicious but the finger prints on the key lime pie where it had been positioned on the plate were disgusting. The staff were welcoming and helpful but this was not the good meal we had hoped for. We won’t be back.

We were looking for somewhere in Usk where we could have an early evening meal. After ringing round it became obvious that nowhere was serving food before 6pm and as we had planned to be at a nearby event for 7pm this would not have worked for us. I spoke to the very helpful and cheerful landlord at the Nags Head who said he could accommodate us at quarter 5:45 which made all the difference. We arrived at 5:30, our order was taken and the food arrived promptly. This is a traditional pub serving real ale and excellent pub food. We both had the home made steak pie and it was delicious. Another plus is that vegetables are included in the price, unlike some places who charge £3/£4 for a few green beans! This was a great experience both in terms of customer service and food and the landlord and his staff should be congratulated. We will definitely return, hopefully not in so much of a hurry next time!

Popped into the Nags head for lunch and had a great meal. Very oldy worldy and I can only describe it as a traditional village pub, but all the better for it. Excellent service and highly recommended.

Ein kleiner Pub, eine Wirtin mit einem grossen Herzen. Unaufgeregt, aber exzellentes Essen. Der Pie of the Day war sehr fein, dazu Chips und Peas wie man sich's wünscht. Dazu unerwartete, spannende Konversation.

Tuis place at the heart of Usk is nice, looks stylish, there is warm and cozy inside. The waitress was kind and helped us explain the food, so I was satisfied. The menu is not wide (10 main meals) and offers local cuisine. The taste of the food was average (not bad, but not particularly good in any way) and we did not enjoy it much, but it was freshly cooked and homemade, so I guess it is kind of okay.

Whenever we are on a day out in the car we always drink lime and soda if visiting a pub. And so we did today at the Nags Head and found that this is the dearest ever lime and soda we have bought! £2.20 for a standard glass - slightly larger than a half-pint but not a pint. Normally expect to pay 80p to £1.20. However it is always 40p for the same size glass in Wetherspoons and has been for the last 2 years at least! If they can do it so cheap.....?

We stopped in Usk on our way home and found this lovely place. The interior is eclectic but still feels cosy. The food was great, we had the leek soup and guinea fowl, both were tasty and filling and nevertheless gluten free!! The service was great, staff was friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit.

We were recommended this pub, situated in the charming town of Usk. The car park offered free parking, a great start, and we were welcomed warmly on arrival. We loved the cosy, authentic, relaxed, unpretentious decor and the lit candles. Staff were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Lunch of scampi, crab cakes and duck came with all the extras you often have to ask for (tartare sauce, salad dressing, lemon wedges etc). All excellent. The home made key lime pie was divine. Our lunch was a late one and at no point did we feel rushed to leave. Lovely atmosphere too and well worth the drive from Bristol.

Popped in for lunch midweek and welcomed by the hosts as usual. Managed to get the table in the window which was perfect. Good choice of menu with local specials besides the usual pub meals. Didn't have to wait long before my local Pheasant arrived and hubbie had the wonderful Gloucester Old Spot Sausages. We both enjoyed our meals served by the cheery waitress. Afterwards we had a nice walk along the river up to the railway bridge and back the other side of the river and then coffee in one of the other pubs in Usk before returning home. A lovely little outing and an excellent meal. We will definitely visit again soon.

Having not been to The Greyhound for a year or so, I was thrilled with our choice. Nothing had changed, everything was as good as before. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. Despite the restaurant being busy, Service was prompt and friendly and the food ( Steak & Kidney Pie / Fruity Chicken Curry ) was plentiful and delicious. Highly recommended. We certainly won't leave it so long till we return

Beautiful location and beer garden is beautiful next to the river, however the barmaid was very snappy with my boyfriend and it seemed very clicky. A shame as it would be beautiful in the summer months

Another enjoyable visit to the Holland Arms. Usual friendly welcome and great service. We shared a duck starter from the specials board, amazing, especially the sauce. We then had lamb and steak as our mains. Both meats were delicious as were the accompanying vegetables. Good choice of wine (I enjoyed the Malbec). Couldn’t resist a bread and butter pudding for dessert - even though full. Look forward to our next visit - probably one of the Christmas meals now being advertised. Very reasonable bill.
