My Karak Chai in Newcastle upon Tyne

Whatever meal you eat here is amazing. Atmosphere also excellent but their service is very poor. They treat customers partially. Especially, the one who is in charged there has no smile on his face. Sometimes, he is a bit rude too. Otherwise, it’s a good place to have a nice meal with family.

Great taste. Girl who served me was so sweet and asked me to wait 2/3 min as fresh tea was getting ready in kitchen. I bought tea before we started travelling to Scotland at night. i enjoyed it thru my drive.

Amazing curry, chicken karahi. One of the best meals I've had on the West Road.

Grilled steak, chips and rice meal very nice. Also, so is the chicken steak grill meals

We come here every Saturday for breakfast. Food is Good. I always upgrade the size of my tea with the breakfast to large paying extra. Saturday the 15/02/2025 when I asked for to change the size of my tea. The waiter in thobe was serving us told us that you stop doing it / Management decided not to offer this any more. I was bit surprised because I am not asking for something else just change the size of my tea with paying extra for it. Any restaurant you go you can always upgrade the size of drink paying extra.

Service is always 10/10 came today and a new lady was working this morning had attitude and a face on when I mentioned I had ordered a 2nd saag and then made a face with her bsck turned. There was 2 saags both should have came together instead of have attitude when they miss out on bringing somthing out and also needs to learn how to speak to customers in a proper manner Normally the gentleman that works he packs up the food for u the lady made us pack it up ourselves and talked to us in a different manner to the table of Urdu speaking men and so much attitude when giving us stuff and not giving the correct cutlery am I meant to pack up the saag by scooping it with my hands 🤦🏽‍♀️ usually never have an issue but it is unacceptable I understand it’s early but treating customers differently is rude and ill mannered 2024 My name is NA I have left a review before around June July last year I went to Karak Chai after a long time with my mom who comes from Birmingham after paying the regular guy that always works here tried to be intimidating towards me regarding the review instead of putting good customer service in place and rectifying the poor review Which is atrocious whilst laughing thinking I would get frightened, we used to be regular customers as well, he also put keema chips right infront of my child in the push chair who could pull it down on him self, no regards of saftey and also speaking shit about their customers on the low knowing I’m righting this review. Customer service 0 After we placed and paid the order the man at the counter interrogated my daughter and be intimidating by saying she gave a bad review afew months back which she has a right to do so instead of rectifying he made this experience horrible in all honesty if we hadnt paid for the food i would have left i came from Birmingham and this the kind of service we got and then he put hot chips and keema in front of my 1 yrs old grandchild who could have easily grabbed it from his pushchair no sense of child safety. The oudusity of the man was gloating that he confronted my daughter . When someone gives a bad review you should try and give good service so that person changed their review to a good one i don't recommend this place to anyone as i dont think I will ever come here again. People in Newcastle should learn to take criticism to make the business better all bad reviews are not bad but a chance for you to give better service and make customers feel welcome instead of driving them away. You dont need my picture but you should remember who i am

One of the best desi breakfast I had. There halwa puri breakfast is just amazing. I have never had proper Pakistani chai like I had here. Food was warm. Clean place. Very warm people. Would recommend 10/10. Keep it up!!

I recently tried the churros at My Karak Chai, and they were absolutely fantastic. Each churro was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with just the right amount of cinnamon sugar coating. The accompanying chocolate dipping sauce was rich and velvety, providing a perfect complement to the churros’ sweetness. The portion size was generous, making it ideal for sharing with friends. The ambiance of My Karak Chai added to the overall experience, with its cozy and inviting atmosphere. I highly recommend trying the churros here if you're looking for a delicious treat to enjoy with your tea.

An average halal pakistani place. Karak chai was pretty average and very sweet. The food was alright (the quantity seemed generous for the rate)

Understandably mostly chais which isn't my thing, but the one coffee I spotted on the menu - the Karak Coffee, was amazing ! So sweet and warming on what was a very stressful day, and it's a nice cosy place with friendly service, definitely recommend

Their portion of gajer ka halwa is very small they take 5.99 pounds for some Oz of the portion they are selling halal but their earnings are not halal

I’ve been here a few times. Yesterday night I ordered two items from an older gentlemen, the billionaire milkshake and a biscoff milkshake. The guy brought us a biscoff cake, we asked for this to be changed to a milkshake as ordered. Whilst waiting for it to be changed we also realised that the other milkshake was wrong but just took it as a loss, since we didn’t want to go up to the till again. After correcting 1 of the 2 items we ordered the older gentlemen had the audacity to tell us to speak up next time with a smile. I just thought what an idiot, he managed to get all 2 items we ordered wrong and blame us. We just left it at the time. But in the future from my experience in working at restaurants and hotels you can read the order back to a customer if can’t hear what they are saying and give them a receipt to check if the order is correct. Don’t blame the customer if you’re hard of hearing. However my corrected order of biscoff milkshake was delicious. Part 2 - 3 star review to a 1 star I didn’t tell my little cousin who I went with to get the milkshakes that I had left a review. He went into the store again a few days later, after ordering the older gentlemen told him off for calling him an idiot (all the information he took in from the review). My cousin said he didn’t know about the review, but the older gentlemen said it doesn’t matter and next time he sees me he will have a word with me. Like if I would go into that store again there’s plenty of other places and I bet you my cousin is going to reluctant to go in again. I do feel sorry for my little cousin since he didn’t even know and what’s going to happen to him if he goes in again after the older gentlemen’s reads this 😂. P.S. if someone leaves a negative review try to resolve the problem and apologise at least to their face please.

Absolutely amazing food. My son is extremely picky about food and he claims this was the best meal he’s ever had.

Tried charak chai and karachi biryani. Karak chai was very ordinary and not worth it at all. Never going to have it again. Their Karachi biryani is great and spicy. Really good. Tried their butter chicken roll which was actually qeema roll, the lady insisted its butter chicken but it wasn't. Their halwa puri is also very ordinary! The wait time is around half an hour to 45 minutes which is quite long considering most items are pre-cooked.

Great place to eat, our first time, lovely tasty food, friendly service, Childs phone was unfortunately left behind on the table, they found it after our phone call, very kindly posted it upto Scotland at no extra cost. Perfect and very much appreciated it. Well worth a visit not for the phone but nice food. Thanks.

We always love the food at My karak chai. The prathas are so delicious, crispy and fresh. I would definitely recommend desi breakfast, halwa puri, keema pratha, Nutella pratha and chicken tikka pratha. The service is amazing. We were served by Riya, she was humble and helpful.

I am a frequent customer and am addicted to - Halwa puri; taste of chana is unique and is addictive; richness of desi ghee in halwa is like cherry on top. However, I would request to increase portion size; provide 3 puris instead of 2 in one meal and increase price if needed as puris finish while chana and halwa still left 10/10 Shami burger is so fresh and full of taste 10/10 I am trying Nihari today will feedback after having it. Service is great; Ria is very cooperative and deals nicely.

Really bad. Everybody was on fone. I went inside. The girl on till was sitting and were on fone. She didn’t even noticed that someone came. I called her 3 times and she didn’t even bothered. Really disappointed.

Everytime i come here m so disapointed because of their ignorant behaviour.Everytime i ask for a well done egg they always gave raw eggs.Even they dont apologise their behaviour is very bad.

I'm the Imam of Bilal masjid Newcastle and a regular here for the karak chai as it is the best. The manager is always awesome top guy always makes me feel welcome. Today I met Siya who recommended Dream Cake and wow the best I've had and trust me I've been around. Keep this going!!

Lovely place great vibe, we travel here regularly from Sunderland for the Karak Chai & desserts. Milk Cakes are lovely and especially the sprinkle cake with custard fab. Staff are great especially Mosa, Sid & Hishaam.

Really bad experience ordered the beef steak, which was really disappointing, they showing one thing on the menu picture and it's completely different the worst steak like thats not even a steak it was a little pieces of beef which look like shredded beef, pasta was average, waste of money and waste of time, cha cha chai or chai wale better option

I tried Aloo paratha , Karak chai and samosa chat . Aloo paratha was good overall . Chai and samosa chat was average. But overall it is good place to have Indian food. Service was really good. Staff was friendly.

I had an absolutely terrible experience at this restaurant. The front staff was incredibly rude and had the worst attitude I've ever encountered. No manners, no respect, just pure arrogance. Kindly train them first a then let them serve. The time was yesterday that is September 16 at around 7 pm in the evening. The only saving grace was the old man working there, who provided the best service by far. He was kind, respectful, and actually seemed to care about the customers, unlike the rest of the staff. It's a shame that someone so genuine is stuck working with such an unprofessional, rude team. Definitely not coming back.

Like the food specially Saag And service was excellent nachos fries with cheese and halwa was also good, people was very nice and friendly the front on till staff was very nice I asked her make me lacha paratha she did so nice .

Last night, I have ordered chapatis and received uncooked, images attached, and the service of this restaurant is very poor, they take very long time around 40 minutes for an order.

the tikka fries are banging. the biriani is abit too spicy for me as it has some seasoning spices left in which should probably be removed before serving as its quite powerful on the pallet. staff and service is supreme. prices are spot on. very clean and welcoming. great place, will be trying more of their menu

If you are craving authentic Pakistani food, you cannot go wrong with My Karak Chai! Desserts and tea are just cherry on top! Highly recommended!

My Karak Chai’s menu has a large selection to choose from and the items are reasonably priced. I love their parathas - simple yet delicious. One of my fav spots for a quick lunch. & received top notch customer service from the guy who served us, got our food really quick after mentioning we were in a rush.

Aloo paratha was beautiful.The pickle had a very hard piece on the bottom like a bone.Wasnt sure what it was.Other spicy dip was superb.Riya was a lovely pleasant girl

Delicious food and great service 👌👌 Don't understand what happened to this place! We love going to Karak Chai as a treat and food/service has always been nice. We went yesterday and was really really disappointed with our experience. Our food took ages to come to the table (that could be forgiven if the food was of good quality) but we had half cooked,oily puris😩 Even the channa masala didn't taste as good as usual, the recipe seems to have changed. Don't know if this was a one off as we saw new staff in the kitchen or if this is the new normal for this cafe. Hoping the owner sees this and takes the necessary steps to take this cafe back to its former glory days!🙏

Best place for kashmiri tea/ pink tea.

I visited for a brunch with my family.... The food was delicious, well presented and nicely spiced. The shop is beautifully decorated and staff was polite. Definitely I'll visit again 👍🏻

If you can’t make it right don’t make it for god sake,ordered flooda and received a full cup of brown thin one foot Long vermicellis in kewra water flavoured milk,worst falooda I’ve ever had! it originally comes with white thick and short vermicellis with ice cream and basil seeds

Today I visited karai chai and I ordered samosa chaat. That was very amazing 👏 and they have best pink tea in newcastle 😍. The services was excellent 👌 👏

Would have given a zero rating but sadly that wasn't an option. This rating is solely based on the customer interaction and the way our order was treated. We ordered some food and chai. The food was alright but they served us some other tea and even overcharged for the same, didn't even offer us a receipt! When we went to enquire the same they gaslit us into believing that's what we ordered. Since we wanted chai we ordered it again and mentioned that it needed to be without sugar (one of us was diabetic) but they added sugar to it and when we confronted them again the person at the reception made faces and said that she would place a third order for us and would charge us again. After already paying twice for the same item we were not in the mood nor in a budget to pay for the same item again just for the person to get it right the third time around. Also, by then we had completely lost faith in their ability to take proper orders. We understand how demanding a job at a cafe could be but this is not the way to treat a customer specially when we were being nothing but polite! Also, the chai was not good. There was no flavor and way too much sugar for even the non-diabetics to ingest. I am a chai lover and would go to great heights just to be able to have a warm cup of nice chai and had high expectations from this place but sadly I'm not returning there again. Thankfully after I left that place, just a few minutes of walk down the street led me to Chaiwala where they served exactly what I was looking for with minimal instructions and no hassle.

Food and drink is alright. The service is a bit slow even on quiet nights. Not sure why. Recently we ordered tea and donuts. Donut take longer, we know that. Tea served within minutes, donuts come quite a while afterwards when you've forgotten about them whilst chatting with your company.

Some items are fine to be eaten but with my honest review as i ordered Falooda was really worse as it was totally raw noodle in it which was really unable to be eaten. And even after complaining for it, they didn't do anything and we waited for 20 mins as if they would come back with some sorry or replacement but they didn't do anything. As we called the assistant, she and the owner responded like Falooda is meant to be like this. The atmosphere was too warm inside to bear. I wouldn't recommend anybody going to such shop which doesn’t respect the customers.

Got a takeaway for biryani paid £8.99 and was put in a plastic small container with one piece of chicken. They’ve stopped giving the boxes and massively reduced portion size does not reflect the price at all !

Decent place to have quick bites and a karak chai. The staff is very friendly. The seating is very comfortable. The food served is delicious. I had tried the Nalli Nihari and samosa.

My Karak Chai Newcastle, Westgate road is definitely a hidden gem. It has to be my favourite place to eat out now. The food is beautiful, I have been a good few times and tried different items from the menu and have been so pleasantly surprised by how lovely and flavourful all of the food has been. The staff are very friendly and the karak coffee is also absolutely beautiful. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Newcastle, don’t hesitate to try this place. 10 out of 10. 😍
