Great cocktail bar! Decent music, good value cocktails - 2 for £12 all day every day. Never too busy but never quiet.

Never eaten food here but wow the drinks are goooood! Best pina coladas in Newcastle and excellent service along with it. If they're quiet enough, they'll bring the cocktails to your table so you don't have to stand at the bar for ages! Amazing service. Love the atmosphere too. Relaxing and quiet with great Cuban decor and music. Been multiple times and I'll keep going back. Two perfect pinas for £12 (June 2024).

Sorry but this place is not for me no atmosphere at all they had the air conditioning on far to low there was four of us we had one drink then left because we were freezing cold, so cold bar with cold atmosphere, sorry possibly just picked a bad day.

Always love going here for a drink or food. Everyone is always friendly and the bar is clean as are loos. Good vibe too.

I went on a Friday evening with friends during Newcastle restaurant week, and we all left severely disappointed. Our food took over an hour to arrive, the portions were tiny (maybe because of restaurant week, but still unacceptable), we had to order some fries to share as we were all still starving. The waitress was polite and kept apologising, but it was rather bizarre as it wasn’t very busy, so unsure why the food took so long. I highly doubt we’d visit again, so disappointing.

Very lively for a Saturday afternoon with a DJ and loads of girls dancing.

Came to Castro's for drinks and light bite to eat. We ordered cocktails (2 for £12) and food to start with. We ordered the Tropical Frozen Daquiri and Zombie which we both very nice cocktails and would definitely have them again. Had the Cuban Style Picadillo Beef burger and Picadillo Beef Nachos. I enjoyed my burger and would get that again if I was going back. Nice setting within the bar area with good music, friendly staff.

This bar was incredibly unhygienic. Upon arrival we found the staff to be passive aggressive and disrespectful towards our party. Furthermore, we felt the staff were serving short measures.

Lovely atmosphere and music l felt like James Bond could walk through the door any minute.🤣🤣

Love it in here, always go for the delicious 2-4-1 cocktails when in town and it has an amazing atmosphere.

It has nothing to do with Castro, Cuba and nor is it a gastropub. Its a lame attempt at getting a bunch of accountants to buy the "concept" and roll it out as a chain. There is a 30 foot wide and twenty foot high display of old broken wooden window shutters on the wall. Its like a Frankie and Bennies with the sign scribbled out and better booths.

Superb bar very underrated great diverse drinks collection and the best of it is they know how to make cocktails properly... Well worth a visit

I couldn't find a nice pub near Monument. I was heading back to the metro when I spotted the back door of Castro's. It is a rum bar so not what I was looking for but they did have Camden Pale keg ale which is always reliable and tasty. I had one while I perused the rum menu. I tried their guest rum and the local Alnwick rum. Both very tasty. The decor was highly fun faux Havana, great Cuban/ Spanish music. Lovely loos. The barstaff were absolutely lovely and shared their wealth of local knowledge. Having arrived down-hearted I left uplifted. Thank you, Castro's.

Terrible service, you can't get the specials on their app, you are told to order at the bar, then the bar staff don't acknowledge you exist. Must take some practice and dedication to ignore people so effectively. Drinks are fine, certainly not worth the awful service.

Simply not enough food with the bottomless brunch deal compared to other places. Barely lines the stomach. Drinks service very good, cant fault that. Food lets its down due to tiny portions.

Absolutely disgusting experience. The food & drink was below one's expectations. Cocktails served over 90% ice. Overpriced dining is all i can say. This was my first and certainly my last visit. Appalling!

So disappointed. Booked castros back in June for a dinner in July as hubby and I were down to see Kevin Bridges. Arrived and the place was quiet. Spoke to waitress and said I had booked a table but she could see no details of this. She did say not to worry and we could sit in one of the booths. She asked if it was drinks or food and provide the menu. 2 minutes later she comes back and says oops I've been told it's not this menu and hands over the lunch menu which is really just a load of sandwiches. We were there for an evening meal! When asked why was told supply issues. Had to quickly find somewhere else to eat before our show. Totally disappointing. They need to sort out their booking system so we could have been informed before we arrived that they couldn't offer food. I won't be back and certainly don't recommend.

Dined pre theatre and the food was outstanding. There were 4 of us and every dish was fantastic. We had a few starters to share and a main each. So much flavour in the beef dishes. Service from Liam made the night. And all of our cocktails were great and served quickly too! Highly recommended what a great addition to Newcastle.

Castro is such a hidden gem ! Great way to start a weekend in city. Attentive staff faultless service from Liam & team , great atmosphere and venue , wowser food portions and cocktails - amazing ! We had a fabulous afternoon and defo will be back . Check out the cubanos sandwich omg delish and leave room for the churros !!

Was supposed to go to the beach but it unfortunately started raining, but these daiquiris brought the sunshine instead 😍 unreal cocktails and a great vibe and atmosphere along with really nice staff! definitely coming again!

Had a fabulous bottomless brunch for my sister's hen do. The staff were lovely and thank you to our waiter Liam for putting up with our random drink orders and for getting involved in our antics. Food was great as well!

Always find this place relatively quiet when I've visited. Paid £5.50 for a good pint of kneck oil, a bit pricey for my liking but I had 4! Great staff, chatty, attentive, polite.

Love this little diamond! I'm a rum drinker and this is the place to be, fab rum selection and amazing cocktail menu. Lovely 241 deals buy one get one free cocktails and you can mix and match. My fav rum is bumbu and they legit do cocktail with bumbu in !!! WOW I would say inside is very dark but staff and quality of drinks and pricing is all good can't complain. Could do with better outdoor seating also.

Horrible, this is the only way to describe our food last night. We paid £60 for food for 4 people. Restaurant week. Honestly, was dire. I've had better kebabs on a night out. Dined at another restaurant earlier in the week and that was good. Would not recommend eating here

I don't know if we were just unlucky but we were served really awful food when eating here tonight. The sticky chilli beef consisted of tasteless rice with 4 slices of processed beef slices on top. The rum soaked chicken had no rum, a small slice of tinned pineapple and 3 pieces of chewy chicken. Also, all the food (starter & main) arrived at once; terrible i'm afraid and very disappointing. The drinks were nice though and 1 star reflects this. Please avoid for food and stick to the drinks.

Really good experience in here. Nice spacious venue, right in the centre of town. Not usually a cocktail kinda person but they have a happy hour and a pretty extensive menu - wasnt disappointed. Recommend the Mojito or Mai Tai. Food was excellent - honestly wasn't expecting it to be so good. Definitely worth a visit.

We had our Covid-delayed wedding party in the Rum-Bah room. Castro’s and Vaulkhard were fantastic throughout. Our guests loved the food, the atmosphere in the room was great, the DJ supplied was excellent and the staff were attentive and friendly. Thanks for looking after us!
