Munchies in Suffolk Coastal

Fabulous cafe located on the High Street in Aldeburgh - I am a local who frequents Munchies on a regular basis and after having done so for some time felt a review was needed. Susie and her dedicated team offer a great service, huge array of food & drink to choose from and genuinely care about the customers they serve and the town and wider community in which they operate…… produce is sourced locally, Susie operates a zero plastic policy and she sources free range and organic ingredients for the wide ranging menu which includes breakfasts, light meals, toasties, lunches, takeaways, cakes, pastries…….. and more. Susie is a pillar of the Community and has a deep love and respect for Aldeburgh and its residents. She spent a large part of lockdown operating a not for profit ‘Meals on Wheels’ for the elderly, vulnerable and isolated ….. ensuring people were fed well, were checked on and had some sort of interaction throughout this difficult period. This then extended to Susie sacrificing her own Christmas to deliver hot Christmas Day lunches around the region for the isolated and vulnerable, which no doubt made a massive difference to these individuals in such dark times. Susie also operates a litter picking scheme….. with buckets and litter picking equipment provided and the incentive of a free hot drink for those who fill a bucket! Susie’s resourcefulness means she is always diversifying. Whether it’s the ‘Click and Collect’ takeaway she offers, picnic boxes in the Summer or Munchies Ready Meals there’s always something new evolving at Munchies…… it’s currently Seville Orange Marmalade which is cooked & jarred on site and tastes wonderful! Hospitality is hard work…… especially during these difficult times. Munchies had been operating in Aldeburgh for 22 years and Susie and her team continue to strive to provide great food, at very reasonable prices, with efficient, super friendly service. You may consider this review as slightly bias……. I’m a local! But, we choose to continually return to Munchies because of what it offers all its customers- locals, day visitors or holiday makers. We have been here several times but only noticed last time there was seating area at the back. My wife and I decided to pop in for some lunch. We both decided on soup and it was really lovely. The Staff were all very polite and helpful. prices are really good. If you are in Aldeburgh and fancy hot food or just coffee and a cake this is as good a place as any.

We have been regulars at Munchies for many years now and would not hesitate to recommend this brilliant cafe to anyone visiting Aldeburgh for coffee or a bite to eat. Susie and her entire team go out of their way to make you feel welcome and our visit today was no exception. As always we were greeted with a smiling face and the fantastic hot chocolate went down a treat sitting outside on a beautiful crisp January day. The hot drinks and the delicious home cooked food is “made with love… by Susie Medland” and the vibe of this cafe certainly makes you feel like one of the family. The food is extremely reasonably priced and there is an extensive menu for breakfast/ lunch, hot and cold snacks and also lots of tasty homemade cakes and pastries. We love sitting outside the front at a cafe table, whatever the weather, watching the world go by in this beautiful seaside town and chatting to the locals and Susie’s regular customers, of which there are many! And it is not hard to see why. If you are looking for good food and great coffee, together with amazing service you must put this place on your list when you next visit Aldeburgh

Munchies continues to be the hub of the community, a breath of fresh air with vibrant, helpful staff and down to earth food with excellent service. It has a great system that works for dining in and take aways. Even on New Years Day which was packed inside and out we all got served with the same smiles and enthusiasm. People love to meet together outside to catch up and share local stories and upcoming events on the famous Munchies pavement. This place has been going for 20 years and I can see why, what a remarkable establishment, thanks guys.

This place is a disgrace in the way it deals with its customers Went here on a busy day and thought the queue was short so went in to order 2 takeaway teas. They took my money and I was then sent out to wait on the pavement outside together with a large amount of people blocking the pavement waiting for their drinks. A 20 minute wait in the cold outside is not my way of spending a New Year's Day!! Strikes me as a very cunning way of getting as much trade as possible Teas turned up luke warm!! A very poor experience I will not repeat in a hurry.

I love this place. I had the best ever bap with egg and bacon, the coffee is terrific and the staff delightful. What more could one ask?

Wonderful lunch with tasty jacket potatoes and toppings of bolognaise & vegan chilli, with breakfast tea and a latte. All food and drinks were excellent, with generous servings. The staff were all friendly, polite and super helpful. We were with our dog who was welcomed too. (I am bemused at some reviews on here. The prices are extremely reasonable, the food is really good, all obviously home made and everyone around us was also clearly enjoying their visit.) Thank you Munchies.

An afternoon snack cakes hot drinks and a wonderful sausage, guyere and onion sandwich. A busy wee cafe, no wonder says us!

Today 3 of us went to Aldburgh for a visit and we had lunch in Munchies. We had toasted sandwiches which were delicious. This venue is also dog friendly and they made a fuss of our Lhasa Apso. We would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Popped in to pick up a picnic for on the beach in the sunshine today. Chose the Italian salad box, Greek salad box and 2 cold drinks. Everything was so fresh, healthy, generously proportioned. So much choice on offer we struggled to narrow it down. All served with a cheerful chat and smile despite the heat in the kitchen. We will continue to return each time we are in Aldeburgh.

We are regulars to Aldeburgh and always grab a morning coffee (and baked good!) to enjoy on the beach. Yesterday, we were having a rather stressful time trying to find somewhere to accommodate us and my lovely niece who has autism and learning difficulties and insisted on only wanting to eat something specific. The team at Munchies really helped us out by allowing my niece to eat her own food whilst we enjoyed the fresh food from the cafe. We know this isn’t usual practice and really appreciated everyone’s kindness. The staff were engaging, talked to her and even showed her how the coffee machine works. Thanks for being so inclusive; a sign of a good business. X

On a rainy Monday in Aldeburgh, mum and I were looking for somewhere to lunch. Originally we had chosen a different venue in the High Street to eat but after being ignored when waiting for a table and then ignored again while waiting to order, that coupled with their prices made us decide to leave and go to Munchies. I should add, no one even noticed us leave! I've eaten at Munchies many times before and, as always, we were met with a smile and a cheery greeting. We were shown to our table within a minute and only waited another five minutes before someone came to take our order. Although there was less choice than shown on the menu - well, it was a Monday after a busy high season weekend - what we chose was excellent. When I asked what herbal tea Munchies had, the waitress brought the full selection for me to choose from! The whole Munchies experience was, as I've always found, very friendly and with extremely good service. I wish we'd gone there first today - I will do so from now on! As a footnote, I can say from past experience, in my opinion, Munchies' breakfasts are the best in Aldeburgh!

Fantastic place for lunch, we were greeted by all the staff, and directed to a table for the four of us, by the time we had found Munchies we were all very hungry. Ellie took our order straight away and delivered the most delicious fresh sandwiches and drinks, everyone who works here is friendly, polite and very helpful, Thank you so much Ellie, Ed and all who work in this delightful establishment.

Stopped by Two Magpies cafe for a coffee and cake, but after ten minutes waiting for someone to take our order, we left and instead sat outside Munchies, just down the street in Aldeburgh. How pleased am I that we did. Coffee was superb and the cake, a crumble slice, was delicious. Quick service from delightful people. Highly recommended!

I was looking forward to a crab sandwich , but the one that I bought here had barely any crab in it. Absolute rip off! Avoid!

Visited spur of the moment on Saturday and it did not disapoint! Dispite the town being busy and a few people waiting we were gretted immediately and our order taken, we waited outside in the sunshine and didnt have to waot long till our takeaway breakfast baps were ready. We took these home to eat and they were delicious! We had these before a few years back but we won't be waiting a few years before we visit again! Fresh and good quality produce. Went to this place for breakfast, as we have been before and it looks quite nice. I am allergic to egg, so asked for their normal full English off the menu, only to be to told “sorry, we can’t do variations”. I was very surprised, in a lifetime of being allergic to egg I have never been told this before. I said to the girl, all they needed to do was a normal breakfast, but just leave the egg off. But she said sorry, no, they can’t do variations. Surprised, and rather annoyed, my wife and I walked out. A strange and almost bizarre experience. I am highly allergic to egg, and any self respecting cafe should be able to deal with this. We won’t be going back.

Friendly staff, the food was excellent and well cooked. We had bacon cobs which were large enough to share between two. All fresh produce which is sourced locally. Sat oitside in the sun watching the world go by. The cobs/baps were big enough for two people but we'd ordered one each, our fault for not asking. Service could have been quicker but everything is prepared and cooked/baked on the premises. Would liked to have mugs/cups instead of the cardboard (Costa style) paper cups and plastic lids but if Costa/Starbucks can do it then why not Munchies. Found Suzie and her staff very friendly and loads of locals using their take away food service and that speaks volumes.

Very disappointing, overpriced, poor quality- clearly exploiting day trippers, not catering for locals or anyone who wanted some good coffee and a decent snack. All the coffee is served in take out cups even if you ‘sit in’ on the pavement outside on the wobbly tables ( which only seat 2) and it charged at in house prices. £3 plus for a terrible small cappuccino. The cakes are described as home made but clearly not- think greasy muffins in wrappers and dry croissants. We didn’t try the hot food but for £8-£10 for a small packaged salad i would hope it’s got some sort of magic ingredients. Over £9 for two tuny coffees in paper chow and a soggy date slice.

Loving my oat flat whites from munchies in the morning at the moment. even as I’m currently having decaf which is normally a weaker taste, the coffee still has a lovely strong taste. Perfect to go with a freshly baked croissant!! Great place to get a delicious socially distanced coffee!

Very disappointing takeaway coffee. Tried it on two occasions (flat whites and cappuccinos) but both times very weak and tasteless. Definitely not recommended if you want a decent coffee!

Ordered a take away breakfast and coffee when first arrived at Aldeburgh. Lovely coffee and the breakfast was worth the wait, well cooked and good quality. Sausages and bacon had so much flavour, perfectly cooked eggs and mushrooms.

Loved popping in for my morning latte and croissant during my holiday in Aldeburgh. Friendly staff and doggy friendly . Shop is (rightly so)pretty busy . But they cope well with the COVID measures. Hope to be back soon.

Whenever I'm in Aldeburgh, as I was this morning, Munchies is a Must Visit. The best coffee, amazing food and, wow! the new Salad Bar. Taking an amazing fresh salad to the beach is such a great thing to do.Customer service is amazing. Susie, the hardworking owner will greet you with a huge sunny smile and nothing is too much for her and her team to make you feel welcome. I was shocked by Oddlykeen's review and asked about it when I popped in for coffee this morning. Apparently the manager he was reviewing has left with immediate effect. So it's safe to come back Oddlykeen! It's a great and friendly place and I can highly recommend it.

Susie is a legend and so lovely, she will be totally devastated by Oddlykeen's "Worst Service " review, I can't really believe my eyes but, she has clearly been badly let down by a rude and unpleasant front of house Staff member, and I am just so sorry to read it. Normally you get the warmest and most amazing welcome from Susie herself, as she dashes about with trays of homemade cake and bowls of salad... you just feel buoyed up by the atmosphere she creates...it is a really Fun place to go for the best chats and catch ups.Please support this gorgeous and very happy Cafe! I have just been to Munchies, as I have every summer, for all of it's 19 years on the High Street, and it is as welcoming and lovely as ever, It is always our first port of call, the boys for sausage baps/ strawberry smoothies and me for best coffee in town and perfect almond croissants. It is the Spirit of Aldeburgh, the nicest place for breakfast, lunch or just a coffee.Thank goodness we can still go to this corking little cafe, please do Not be deterred by one bad review, GO! be delighted, celebrate the Spirit of Aldeburgh and you too will become loyal Munchies devotees... Had such a delicious bacon bap from munchies last week- my partner also had a full breakfast bap and He said it was the best he has ever eaten! It was a massive portion and still hot when we got the beach to enjoy them, Susie and the team were welcoming and friendly which is much needed during these testing times. Honestly gob smacked at the recent negative reviews and having visited munchies a few times (went back this week for an equally delicious salad box) can only think this must have been a one off during a really stressful period. PersonallyCant wait to go back for more when we are next back to visit xx

I've thought long and hard about posting this review but the past few days have convinced me to do this.I have been a regular in Aldeburgh for 10 years. We stay at least twice a year and love the town. I was particularly looking forward to this visit after the lockdown.Years ago, Munchies was THE place for an early morning coffee or bacon roll...but lately the service has been awful. However, the past week (first week since lockdown ended) has cemented this place in my mind as perhaps the rudest cafe in the UK.I went three times this week in an effort to support a business that I am sure has struggled recently. I am a really polite guy and like to be positive...but EVERY single time, the owner / manager treated me and other customers with absolute contempt; She is curt, unwelcoming and downright hostile to all and sundry...she makes no attempt to disguise an abject hatred for tourists and visitors whilst still happy to relieve them of £6 for a bacon roll.It's no surprise that the second bakery in Aldeburgh has had a queue all week.....Such a shame but i would now urge people to avoid this place unless you want your day to get off to a rude and dispiriting start.Very sad.

Stopped in this place as I've seen that they make the famous Portuguese pastries (pasteis de nata) so, being Portuguese, I had to give it a try.What I liked the most was a friendly lady member of staff. She was so cheerful and ended up offering me one Portuguese pastry.I absolutely loved the place. I had a read through the menu and there was a lot of vegetarian/vegan dishes that i wish i had the time to try it. I will definitely go back to try the menu:)

Stopped for a light lunch on a rainy day. Lovely food, very accommodating of our young son with allergies. Lovely children’s books available to keep him amused. Very friendly & helpful staff. All food was very nice. Will return.

We had a very good lunch here, a good choice of interesting dishes and friendly and efficient service. Takeaway sandwiches are good too.

12 of us arrived for mid morning coffee and snacks , great and friendly service , staff were not fazed by a large crowd!

Quirky premises, but don’t let that put you off. Food is home made, first rate and slightly unusual - chorizo scotch egg was excellent. Attentive staff. Highly Recommended.

Bit of a tardis. The cafe is at the back and it’s really quaint. The home made soup (tomato and basil) was lush, would have preferred chunky bread to toast. The boys had bacon, sausage and egg in a bap (bit pricey at over 7 quid) and another one of the group enjoyed the sausage roll. Really fresh and homemade. Would have been better with a bit of relish along with the salad. But still lovely. The coffee cake and Victoria sponges went down well. Lovely cappuccino’s. They should do an afternoon tea as they would do well. Staff are great and young. Along with some Diet Cokes the bill was over 50 quid. It is nice and worth a stop, really fresh, just don’t expect it to be cheap. Would go again.
