Called in for a meal here on a week night. We were told to book, but really didn't need to as there were only 6 other people in at the time we were there. The food was excellent, as was the service, but the room we ate in was very tired and in need of refurbishment. That said, we would return for the good food.

Over priced food, cold, had soup and did not enjoy it. Didn't like the room either, seems very tired.

My family 7 adults and 4 children had a delicious lunch on Saturday in gorgeous surroundings with the added fun of an open fire. The staff were friendly and the food was second to none. The chef made a cake for my husbands birthday which was gorgeous.

After sitting in the buttery (as we have many times before) were quizzed as to whether we had booked (it was totally empty), or whether we were hotel guests as they weren't serving "walk ins" because it had been a busy day. After we offered to leave, they relented and did serve an excellent supper... but need to improve their customer service.

I often visit Felixstowe and stay at the Orwell hotel.Abigail's Buttery situated in the hotel offers a good, well balanced menu.My wife and I have dined here several times and the food has always been well cooked and served by attentive staff. There is a choice to suit all tastes and the ambience is quiet and tasteful.Non residents can dine here and considering the choice available in Felixstowe this is an excellent venue.

We were staying at the Orwell hotel on our annual pilgrimage to family in Felixstowe, and thought after the fantastic meal we had last year, we would eat in Abigail's Buttery again, as it has one of the most fantastic restaurant interiors in the country, with original wall to wall carved wood paneling. We pre-booked a particular table in the restaurant, and within 10 minutes of our arrival, the restaurant manager lit a fire for us in the large original fore place. Two course evening meal for £12, and two course children's meal for £6.95 - so reasonably priced. The salmon moose was OK. However, when I asked for a medium-welldone steak, it came back rather underdone, almost rare. For a chef in a quality restaurant, this is unacceptable. The chips were well cooked and perfectly acceptable. The kids had ordered desserts, but didn't have space, so I ate my son's Eton Mess, which I must say was the highlight of an otherwise average meal. The only real down-side to the restaurant are the gent's toilets - they are located on the otherside of the ground floor of the hotel - so a rather long walk! A wonderfull restaurant - though the chef's need re-training on how to cook!

I had no idea such a beautiful interior awaited us in Abigail's Buttery at The Orwell Hotel in Felixstowe. The food was very good and the presentation was second to none. We all chose from the set menu but a la carte was also available. Service was attentive and professional. This certainly is a hidden gem and we will definitely return.

Good choice of starters, main courses and desserts and two courses for £10.00. Tablecloths and a small vase of flowers makes this a lovely place for special occasions and the service was excellent as well.

We enjoyed the 3 course lunch which we thought good value. However the restaurant, like the hotel needs doing up. The drinks I thought a bit on the dear side.

We went for a family members birthday and was the third time we have eaten there, well it's got worse and worse. It was a Sunday, so there was a roast on the menu but several of us decided to have something else, we plumped for two courses at £17 each, my wife had a starter which consisted of a small piece of mozzarella, one tomato and a bit of greenery and no dressing, she did have the roast, and all the Yorkshire puddings on offer were burnt. That was just one meal out of six and none of the other we're much better, we al had an hours wait between courses. The only reason I've given two stars is because the staff were really nice and helpful, just a shame everything else was sub standard.

Stayed here for the Easter Break from good Friday till the Monday. Such a lovely feel to this hotel. The food on Saturday evening was to die for we had our friends join us and all had Beef Wellington and all agreed the best one we have ever had ! Second time staying at this hotel and would definitely go back as staff and management are lovely.

We took advantage of an unexpectedly sunny Sunday to take a friend in a wheelchair for a stroll on the prom and brunch at the Alex — where we knew there was an accessible loo, should it be needed. Our order included a vegan breakfast, muffin and poached eggs and smoked haddock fishcakes, plus cake. All were good, fresh and well-cooked. Hats off to the chef who perfectly poached those eggs. The staff were friendly and professional and went out of their way to help us with wheelchair manoeuvring. The place feels well-run.

Over-priced food - an unbelievable £4.75 for a stodgy, tasteless cheese scone with one pat of hard, cold butter. Only managed to eat half of it, really unpleasant, threw the rest away. The cakes were not covered and crawling with flies. Sandwiches even more over-priced at £8.25 for a small cheese sandwich with white bread. This cafe used to be so much better. Will drive past in future and not stop here.

Ver disappointed. Two young girls on duty who were indifferent to our questions. We sat down and neither came to ask if we needed drinks before ordering. There was only one other family in the restaurant. Left without ordering. Have been before with better results but not happy with the lack of service.

Food and service ok, but far too expensive. One thin slice of cheese and ham on a cheddar and ham ploughman's meal ? Salad out of a bag ?. Joke at their prices.
