Mumtaz Restaurant in Bradford

It was my first time visiting the Mumtaz in Bradford. The one in Leeds has never let me down but when we visited here it was absolutely freezing. We informed the waiters we wanted the heating on and they advised it was already turned on. The mixed platters were okay but the chicken wings and lamb chops seemed off. We came here on a work meal and a lot of the colleagues left with an upset stomach and fell ill because of the cold and the food. I would prefer to visit the Leeds branch next time.

The legend. But I was... disappointed, as I remember being all those years ago. Was harassed while I waited for the very slow service by a crank the restaurant wasn't doing anything made for an eminently forgettable evening. Adieu!

Came down for a meal yesterday and had a fantastic time, big thank you to Awais who provided us with the special dish punjabi lamb which was amazing and mouthwatering and tender of flavour and he was so good to my kids and he even gave them some lollipops to be happy with. Thank you Awais and will definitely come again to see you.

Sorry but the quality has fallen. Did not enjoy food. Expensive and poor value. Still no better than my last personal visit on this occasion I was a invited guest

We have been sent off food on this Thursday night. We have ordered two veg curries , pickle tray , salad, nan , roti , popadoms . The whole pickle tray was off and was bubbling when we opened the lids ! Alo gobi was undercooked and the potatoes were still very hard. The rest of the food wasn’t good either but still was edible . I had Bhindi and just didn’t taste like anything. Thank God we ordered with Uber eats and got a refund. I would not order again , it’s a shame , it used to be the best curry house in Bradford

Ate here quite recently, food was alright, service was rather was OK but considering the restaurant was quite empty it's a bit strange, but the atmosphere was good because there were candles everywhere and the restaurant was decorated quite elegantly. I ordered a Barr cola and was given some fake, off-branded cola that gave me a dry throat and a bad cough less than a day later The workers charged us about £10 extra for a dish we didn't even order and when we went back to try and resolve it, they locked the doors. Not a very fun experience and we didn't enjoy the end bit where they overcharged us. 2/10. Poor experience considering it used to be quite nice, thought Mumtaz would be better. Wouldn't recommend to eat here.

I visited Mumtaz today with my partner who loves good food! It was really busy which we thought was a great sign, was seated quickly and given a menu. We decided on lamb chops and chicken wings for starters, then keema pasta bake and Peri Peri chicken with chips for our mains. We ordered 2 bottles of coke, £3 each for the cheapest coke there is, that wasn't even cold. We asked the waiter for ice, the coke was that warm, my partner used half of the tray because it just melted. Food arrived after 15 ish minutes. Chicken wings was average, definitely over priced. The lamb chops was dry and lacking flavour. I am extremely picky with food, so I was delighted when I read the keema bake didn't have onions etc in, I asked for no tomatoes. When I bit in to my keema bake, imagine the disappointment when I bit into an onion and peas. I HATE BOTH. The pasta bake was lovely though, red hot with lots of flavour. I ate round the onions and peas and my partner ate the rest. My partners Peri Peri chicken was extremely dry, with an over powering taste of charcoal which was served with the worlds smallest dollop of mash, salad and chips. He requested a naan to eat his dry chicken with, it took that long to arrive that his dry chicken also went cold. In between the time it took for his naan to come, we had 2 separate waiters come and almost take the food from our table assuming we had finished. I asked one of the waiters if they could double check the menu regarding the onions and peas in the food, he said he would but never returned. Once we had finished eating, it felt like they rushed us out as we turned down the desert menu. Upon leaving, I bought some asian sweets from the counter to take home. Presentation was beautiful and the sweets was really nice, very reasonable priced too. The one decent thing I will say is that the interior is absolutely beautiful and a few of the waiters was friendly. Overall, I do not think this place is good value for money. Over priced and over rated food. Very disappointed.

Lamb kebabs were good. All other grill items were plain, chicken wings had bad smell. Akbars is much better

Probably The Best Curry I have ever eaten. Visited 2:00pm Sat 12 Oct 24 with a family member. We were impressed by the size, opulence and cleanliness of the interior. The staff looked crisp and smart. Well done! We were served by the lovely Ria, who periodically checked that our food was more than okay. Five stars + for attentive and polite service. As the restaurant had just opened, we were the first in and for the next two hours there were no more than 3 families present. We appreciated this 'quiet' time in which to consume our meal. If you like peace and quiet- go early! Poppadoms (extremely light and crispy) were complemented by the most diverse pickle tray that I have ever eaten. Chicken pakora starters- I have never seen a lighter, crisper, cleaner batter on food. Lamb Dopiaza cooked to order with a madras + spice effect- perfect- except (a minor issue- I had to ask for it to be reheated- but to be fair the ambient air temp was quite cold; they had just opened). Garlic Naan was served with plenty of garlic and the keema biryani rice was to die for. My son had Bhindi curry and stated it was gorgeous. The meal was complemented with a mango lassi; of which the constituency was just right and a soft drink. I was not impressed by the commoditisation of water- which was sold at £2.50 a small bottle. I was not impressed by the male waiter interrupting our conversation with our female waiter and re-tasking her; especially when the restaurant had minimal people in. It came across as sexist; male on female- not acceptable in the 21st Century. Training needed. My son paid- he never leaves a tip. He left a tip! I can see why this restuarant was chosen to host the late HM The Queen. It certainly is fit for a Queen. We will be back.

Went in here on a Friday night. Restaurant was pretty empty with only a few tables occupied. Staff just ignored us whilst we waited to be seated by the sign. Carried on talking to each other as though we weren't there. Eventually was shown to a table and handed 2 sticky falling-apart menus. We were then ignored for another 20 minutes or so. Again, plenty of staff milling around chatting to one another. This did give us a chance to notice how run down this place has got. Threadbare seating. Tired decor. Zero atmosphere. Enough was enough. We got up and left without even being challenged! As we were leaving, I noticed a tray of food coming out of the kitchen. Some kind of pasta dish. Maybe lasagne (I noticed they had that on the menu). I remember it being a real occasion visiting this restaurant when I lived in Yorkshire some 20 years earlier. I honestly felt like they didn't welcome my custom!

Amazing food! Best curries in Bradford by far, service is perfect every time, and a beautiful place. We have come here as a family and on our own as a couple and we all enjoy the food and atmosphere.

I've had two amazing meals at this place on separate occasions and can honestly say it is top knotch food. Very impressed. Lovely and clean, spacious environment and amazing food. I especially love the garlic naan, and the takeaway fridges and desserts make it a place to visit also. If I am in Bradford, this is where I eat ✌️❤️🙏

Nimra, Ria and Omar made me feel so comfortable the service they gave was second to none. It's been over 20 years since I last here and the food was still amazing. I will be back with friends and family thanks for a lovely evening.

Great food, huge portions, great service

Has this place gone downhill big time or what? I have being going for 30+yrs but not so frequently lately due to the dropping standards. They are cutting corners on everything and nothing is same as before; what made them great. For a start their overworked staff who are untrained and do not know the basic etiquetts of waiting. They basically 'throw' everything on table. We ordered the falooda as we used to enjoy it. But this time it was totally different and awful. It was just milk shake with a bit of ice cream and noodles; none of those little ball things (tukmeria?) and no kulfi.

It's been a few years coming back to Mumtaz. We had the mix grill and butter chicken curry with tandoori roti. Both the grill and curry were made perfectly. We finished off with kashmir tea and Rasmali. Really enjoyed the meal and atmosphere

The building was nice and attractive with and amazing atmosphere welcoming nice vibes and happy family but the service was not good nor was the hygiene the starter plates served every single one them came out dirty and had stains of food and so did the cutlery really put me off but regardless we ordered and the food was decent but a lot of improvements could be made but great job just please take these notes in just to improve on certain things to provide the best outstanding hospitality and food and just give everyone the best experience possible and grow the bussiness even further✅

Great restaurant with quality food and amazing service. We have been a few times in the last couple of months. The service from Ria has been outstanding. She was so professional, polite and an asset to the Mumtaz staff. She was one of the reasons we have come back to Mumtaz repeatedly.

The quality has unfortunately dropped. By a lot. There used to be a time, when royalty was flocking to Mumtaz. Now, the restaurant we have visited yearly for at least 20 years is not the same it once was. It’s not the same as it was last year. The standard and quality has dropped, and a change is direly required. Although we probably will never return, unless there is an evident change, which can be seen by other customers, we have appreciated what once was, and are extremely upset, that, the restaurant that once was, arguably, the best is no more. Something I forgot to mention, the day before, I rung the restaurant, with an enquiry about a dish they serve. The lady who answered the phone promptly hung up on me, before I could even finish my question.

Excellent as usual, food was great, we were sitted straight away and service was fast and good. Plenty of choice in the menu .

Used to go here and than had terrible experience about 15 years ago. Than last night my friend said they have improved. Absolutely terrible experience. Food is better at a local delivery restaurant…… very expensive and not good value for money and worse was the tava kharahi and the platter for 4. Lamb kebab & chicken tikka were pre-made and just microwaved. I’m a fair guy and always eat out few times a week. But for Bradford standards they have really gone down the drain.

If your looking for an authentic restaurant this is the place. The food is next level and service is exceptional. I would recommend the masala fish, superb

I went down to Mum‘s for my brother‘s birthday party with my whole family to start off. It wasn’t very warm inside it was a little cold. We ordered masala fish, creamy chicken pasta, chicken Nambali, butterfly chicken. chicken nambali was decent however they used standard red onions when I wanted, white onions secondly the butterfly chicken was really hard and we couldn’t eat it so instead of us asking them to make us a fresh one we simply we simply asked them to knock off the bill

Mumtaz was rated 5th best restaurant in Bradford. Terrible experience. Service atrocious. Drinks brought out without glasses. Mains were brought out without new plates - had to ask for them. Food quality not great. Only decent dish was the masala fish. Waiters seem rushed and told us the meat dish was the veggie dish. Our vegetarians were not impressed. I would avoid this place.

Food was average prices were little expensive ordered two portions of small rasmallie charged me £12 pounds,it's expensive for two small portions of rasmallie.

Very expensive i.e. 12 poppadoms, £9 complete rip off. They rip people off because they can and they add extras without asking to increase your bill, not very professional. Wont go back there in a rush.

We are 11 friends of Edin-Pak from Edinburgh visited Bradford. We had dinner at Mumtaz Bradford. Delicious food fantastic service especially Ria. We all enjoyed.

I last visited Mumtaz’s over a decade ago, and have very fond memories. So it was disappointing to have a more mediocre experience today. Service was a little poor — we had to remind the waiter to get our drinks after some of our starters had arrived. When they did arrive, drinks marked as Fanta and Diet Coke were actually replaced by off brand “premium” drinks which did not taste premium. Additionally, a request for two portions of one starter were delivered as a single portion. We were then advised it would take a further 15 minutes to get the additional starter out, which we declined. Mains were really lovely, as was the gulab jamun. Quality of service could definitely be improved by more clearly marking out the soft drinks menu, and by offering fresh, new copies of menus to all guests, rather than the tatty, often stained copies. The current approach just doesn’t match the otherwise beautiful interior of the restaurant.

Do not go here! I found a deceased horsefly inside of my Kebada. Also, the waiter went in the toilet and when I went in there was a certain sticky substance on the toilet seat! Disgusting!

We wanted something spicy and yum so we came to Mumtaz, the lady who served us, Ria was spot on with her recommendations and got the perfect spice levels cooked up for us. We ordered Keema Aloo and Chicken Biryani and both were brilliant! We ended the great meal with kulfi and cheesecake, lovely experience overall!

It had been a while since, I have been to Mumtaz for a meal, out with family and friends in Bradford, so we decided to go, as some had not been before. It was fairly quiet and we were seated quickly. Starters we went for the masala fish, and lamb chops, chicken tikka, and the seekh kebab donner. The starters were OK, but I remember the fish tasting better on previous visits. The starters were average for the premium prices, definitely gone down a notch since my last visit a few year's ago, which Mumtaz was a regular spot for me when in Bradford. The mains we ordered the recommendation of the waitress, the punjabi lamb karahi and butter chicken. The butter chicken was not creamy enough, and didn't have the butter taste, instead infused with spice. Overall, it was not up to par for the prices they're charging and the fact they're trying to be a premium brand, the food was not on par. With the competition of other restaurants in the area, I can see myself not returning again for some time. On a positive the interior was beautiful, staff were very friendly and helpful. Just overall disappointed with the level of quality of the food.

I came here as part of my 27th Wedding Anniversary. My husband told them so but nothing special was put in place on our table(candle etc). The service was amazing.- our waiter went above and beyond his duty which made our experience of the restaurant better. The food smelled delicious when it arrived, I ordered vegetable samosas as a starter which were delicious but a bit spicy. Also, the tandoori chicken massala, but it was very spicy and I ended up taking half of it home ( my husband ate the rest of it). They don't serve alcohol so we had freshly squeezed orange juice which was the best I've tasted. Loved this restaurant. Will definitely be returning in the future.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Such delightful and delicious food. I think it is the best desi food restaurant in the whole UK. Each food item was excellent. The naans are the bestest. Customer service was on point and very friendly towards my kids especially from one waiter who was seating people food wasn't all that the fact I asked for mayonnaise and was given yogurt lol also the seekh kebabs doner well its not donner if its a full seakh kebab on naan seriously but overall its definitely nice eating from there

Food is nice but nothing to write home about. Atmosphere and service are good. We ordered paneer palak and the paneer pieces were quite hard. The onion bhajis had not been cooked long enough so the potatoes weren't cooked through drinks were good as was the fish starter and daal. Too expensive for mediocre food

We paid a high premium eating at this restaurant but our meal was way below par. We would have received better standards at a local takeaway. The chicken biryani was way too salty, lamb karahi was salty, the sauce for the lamb karahi was not good, the samosas dripping in oil, the paani puri lacked flavour as I was told they don't use tamarind and was too watery. The staff were also spraying cleaning detergent on tables and chairs nearby where we were eating.

Absolutely loved the food with excellent service. Ordered Punjabi Karahi as per suggestion from staff and it was 10/10, was skeptical about chappal kebab as it is not their expertise but on our surprise it was so good. Overall, we loved our trip in that peaceful environment.

The host was really friendly and took us promptly to our table, service was great from our waiter Syed, really took his time to explain the menu to us. Place gone downhill very poor quality of food .the waiters are fake coming to your table on false pretence asking if you would salad or poppadom then behind your back they charging. I got charged nearly $50 and that's just for 2 people I ordered dhaal if 4 different varieties and could only taste 1 with 2 red kidney beans . Looks like new owners are just out to grab your money and fool you whilst doing it Be aware of the false especially the girl !!!

Really bad food Rude service And starting arguments

I visited the Bradford branch last year and I was impressed by the refurbishment, so I decided to take 10 guests to this establishment on Eid yesterday with terrible results. After making a phone reservation we were seated upstairs to my surprise, a first for me, it's so outdated compared to the decor downstairs. We felt like an afterthought for the staff, and what was supposed to feel like a special setting felt like a 2 star joint, only that we get to pay the same bill as those enjoying the setup downstairs. The food was okay, the bathrooms require improvements.

Long time since my last visit. Same quality of food as before. Would recommend. Had seekh kebabs for starters with the biggest pickle tray in the world (£5). And khari chicken and garlic and coriander naan. Very nice

Food was way overpriced and just standard. Could get similar quality from Ambalas down road for half the price. Waiter was really good. Gave it 4 stars because the 2 girls at the counter were arrogant and very slow.

Best seekh kebabs in Bradford taste them you won’t be dissatisfied.

Poor! Lived in Bradford my entire life and this was the worst curry I have had. Under cooked chicken wings, frozen seekh kebabs full of gristle, flavourless curries! My son who isn’t picky with food refused to eat it. £40 in the bin, won’t return and would not recommend.

Haven’t been for a few years and I have to say the changes are not for the better. Large blinged up canteen atmosphere …. With music so loud I couldn’t my partner talk. The service was poor …. Basic things like starter plates not being taken away before mains arrived. Mains arriving and having to wait for cutlery. Dishes plonked on the table… and children with buckets asking for money while diners ate. The food was edible but uninspiring. Will not be returning anytime soon.

Samosa chaat did not taste fresh, lasagne was okay but lacked that overall cheesy sauce the fish was tasty but naan was like a cracker
