Mumtaz in Leeds

Their toilets were completely out of order… but they did not tell us when we arrived, they told us when it was too late to do anything g about it and all of our guests had arrived. The only working toilet in the vicinity was at a bar across the water that had ONE cubicle. There was soon a queue of 15 people waiting to use this toilet. Service was also lacklustre and they made so many mistakes with our order and some staff were rude. But the food was alright.

I visited Mumtaz Restaurant on 19/12/2024 and found the ambiance and setting to be quite attractive. The waiter who served us was polite and accommodating. However, I had some disappointing experiences with the food. There was a hair in my starter, which was unsettling, though the waiter promptly replaced the plate upon my request. Later, when the mains arrived, they were not what I had ordered. After bringing this to their attention, I had to wait an additional 40 minutes for the correct dish. In total, I waited over an hour after my starter, which impacted the overall dining experience. While the ambiance and service were commendable, the quality and delivery of the food fell short of expectations. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be returning.

The food was very good. Our host Talha was very efficient and courteous. Our Christmas dinner definitely went awesome.

Very nice restaurant, went here for a works Xmas dinner, food was plentyful and delicious but did take a little while to arrive, but this was probably due to our large party size.

Biryani wasent at its best standard as one would expect in such a restraunt, Chicken barbq was not fresh , was warmed too much in an oven, papodom Nd pickle tray was the best Nd the strawberry ice-cream.

An ok restaurant,Ambience and decor are nice. we waited only 5mns to be seated so it started good. We were seated near window so had a vue of the dock and boats which was nice. My seat cover was quite stained so had to turn in around to be able to seat down. Service was good and quick but to be honest the food was average. I prefer the Bradford one by far,the starters were hit and miss and the mains disappointing.They had a good range of mocktails but that's the only good point. We paid £115 for 4 people, ordered a portion of chicken pakoras which were nice,seekh kebabs, which were quite dry,pani puri which didn't have any flavour and fish masala which was nice. Followed by chicken karahi no spice or flavour, chicken stir fry was not nice at all, just sweet couldn't taste anything else and chicken steak which was so dry and really really plain . I really wanted to love it and have a nice meal but didn't work for me. Sorry

Went there for a large family get together, service and atmosphere were great but food lacked the usual Mundas taste. We ordered masala fish, mixed grill starters and a range of karahis.

We went here last night as we are staying in the holiday inn nearby. What a beautiful restaurant. The food was so tasty and a really good sized portion. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Food was okay not as great as Akbars in all honesty. If you like bland food then this is the place for you. Sign posting is very difficult to see, need to sort that out especially from car park onwards.

I recently visited Mumtaz Restaurant in Leeds and had a fantastic experience! The service was absolutely excellent, especially from Yaseen, who was attentive, friendly, and made us feel incredibly welcome. The food was delicious, served warm, and bursting with flavor. Went here for food for the first time with family we ordered 3 mixed grills waited 40 mins for this food when it came it was not hot no sizzle at all food was like warm display of the food did not look appealing we called a member of staff told them she went away few minutes later came back and told us we have a trainee chef we couldn’t believe it a place like that and a trainee chef made tht food he had just warmed it up and it was served. What a joke then the drinks we ordered was full of sugar and watered down the whole experience was not good we would not go ther again and do not recommend this place to anyone . We was charged for 2 mixed grills what we didn’t eat because the food was disgusting 🤮. Not professional not run well not organised just a mess up staff .

Firstly walked in and felt like i was at a grocery store! They were selling chapatti flour, oud, incense sticks and all sorts! The food was not fresh. The mint sauce on my pickle tray had gone off! I let them know and they didn't even bother to get me a fresh pickle tray but made me pay for the poppadoms I'd bought to go with the pickle tray. Horrendous service. The lady with a niqab was a plonker and took my pickle tray but didn't even come back and say anything to me. My husband asked for a coca cola before we left and we were sat waiting for approx 15 minutes but the guy was too busy flirting with his colleagues. Absolute shambles and definitely won't go again. When we were paying the man asked how everything was and we told him, he didn't apologise. Most importantly I've had an upset stomach since last night and it's given me the runs! Worst dining experience.

The food was upto the mark as always. Brother Yaseen serviced as very fast and everyone started the food at the same time. Ambience is very good. Wings was lovely.

Very disappointed with the food to be honest and the lamb biryani was more lamb pilau. But the atmosphere was brilliant and very spacious. But they need to work on the biryani for sure. The only thing that was nice was the poppadoms

Enjoyed the atmosphere, staff were friendly & helpful. Great food, very authentic & just what we were looking for with a real depth to the flavours. We visited on a Saturday at 8pm without making a reservation & were seated within 10 minutes. Please note restaurant does not serve alcohol.

Came to Leeds on a spur weekend, as we stayed on the dock in an holiday in express there were a few restaurants in area but we wanted to try something very authentic with a punch wow so pleased we stepped in Amazing flavours, very authentic. Terrible Experience – Avoid at All Costs! We recently visited Mumtaz Leeds with my family and my sister’s family for what we hoped would be a nice treat, but it turned out to be an absolute disaster. The food was beyond horrible—disgusting and awful. It genuinely felt like we were served expired or leftover food. The starters were shocking: • The wings were bloody and undercooked. • The chicken tikka was so tough it was impossible to chew. • Lamb chops were swimming in oil instead of being grilled. • The kebabs were alarming—they looked and tasted like they were made from rotten chicken or meat. • And to make matters worse, we found two hairs in our dishes. When we informed the waiter about this, he simply took all the starters away without any explanation and never brought them back. The main course was just as bad—absolutely no flavor or taste whatsoever. I spoke to the manager, hoping for some accountability or resolution, but all he did was offer a half-hearted apology, saying he couldn’t do anything about it. No attempt to make things right. And for all this, we were charged £209.70! This was by far the worst dining experience we’ve ever had. My advice: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! Do not take your loved ones here unless you want them to get sick afterward. They may have the name, but trust me, they absolutely do not have the taste, quality, or care for their customers. Never Visit them Again. Until they change their chef or train the staff properly, stay far away from Mumtaz Leeds!

Absolutely next level. Authentic. Gorgeous venue. Best butter chicken I ever had. Ditto with the cheese naan. Generous portions. Excellent server in Yaseen. Not just a restaurant but a destination.

I had an incredibly frustrating experience with this mumtaz customer service. I was on hold for waiting tables ;it was fully empty only to be transferred between multiple waiters who clearly had no plan to help me. They were rude, unhelpful, and seemed completely uninterested in resolving my issue. Absolutely unacceptable and disappointing service!"

Travelled over from Chesterfield for a weekend away and prebooked a table, arrived early and were greeted by the staff with friendly vibes. Quickley seated (given options as it wasnt too busy at the time we went), food ordered and arrived at our table quickly. By far one of the best, authentic, restaurants visited in the area! Highly recommend!!! Be back soon thats for sure 👌🏻🙏🏻

Starters were very nice. Mains were average. Service was good. Free parking is good.

Vegetarian and non vegetarian starters were mixed and shared. It should have been a basic sense of sharing it separately and people could take as per their choice.

Title: Disappointing Experience – Rude Staff and Unreasonable Policy at Mumtaz Leeds I recently attended an evening meal at Mumtaz Leeds to celebrate a relative's anniversary, with around 40 guests in attendance. While the décor was beautiful and the food I managed to eat was delicious, the overall experience was marred by a truly disappointing interaction with the staff. My wife, who had been feeding our young children, didn’t even get the chance to enjoy her meal as the food had gone cold by the time she sat down to eat. After we had finished what little we could, I approached a tall waiter who I believe was the head waiter. I asked if we could pack up the leftover food to take home. His response? A blunt "No, you can’t. It’s a set menu and has been discounted, so you can’t take it home." I was shocked by his tone, but when I pointed out that the food would likely go to waste, he told me, "No, we’ll either feed it to the staff or donate it to charity." He even had the nerve to suggest that if we wanted takeaway, we should have ordered it in the first place. In over 40 years of dining at countless restaurants, I have *never* been told I couldn't take home food that I had paid for. The total bill was likely close to £1000, so this isn’t some small matter. If this is indeed a policy of Mumtaz Leeds, then they urgently need to review it. It’s absurd that paid-for food would be denied to the customers who ordered it, especially when it’s a set menu and not a buffet. What makes it even worse is that multiple guests from our party also requested to take their leftover food home, including the person footing the bill, and yet they were given the same ridiculous response. If the waiter was on some kind of power trip, then he needs to be reprimanded immediately. Frankly, this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth, and I’d advise anyone considering Mumtaz Leeds to think twice. If this is how they treat paying customers, they’ve certainly lost my business. Absolutely disgraceful.

The food was aight tbh, like many other places, just a standard Indian place, nothing special, the service was appalling, we weren’t greeted upon entrance for about 5 mins and had to approach a member of staff to be seated, the service from then on was pretty bad apart from a man named tahlah (I believe his name was) he was very good and provided a good service, can’t say the same for the other staff, overall decent place but staff let it down.

Food was pretty bland for an Indian/pakistani restaurant. Spice level was unexpectedly low. However if you don't mind that, then you will probably be fine.

Service was first class, food delicious and super atmosphere. Had a celebration with friends and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Talha made us all feel very special. Thank you.

Mumtaz • Leeds (invite) From the impeccable food to the stunning waterfront views, a visit to Mumtaz is well worth it! The Thaal consists of comfort favourite foods: balochi saji (whole chicken), chappal kebab, pilau rice, balochi lamb karahi, chicken karahi, keema karahi, butter parathas, tandoor naans, vegetable pakoras and chips! Despite the generous portions, the quality of the food is not compromised - all of the foods deliver on taste and freshness 😮‍💨 The staff at the restaurant are so attentive and genuinely friendly! Our waiter had the biggest smile on his face and couldn’t do more for us!

I came as part of a large group for an engagement party. The staff were very nice and accommodating, and made us feel at home with such great service. With food spreads coming out efficiently we all got to eat our fair share of great food. I haven't had such great Indian food in leeds prior to this, so I'm happy to have visited. I wholeheartedly recommend this place for events or large groups, or even just for a nice meal with a friend. 10/10 ✌️

I used to go to the original restaurant in Bradford in the early 90s every weekend when I lived nearby and it was superb. Was disappointed that the food no longer resembles the way it was, it was OK, nothing special at all for what it cost, rather bland but worst of all everything was absolutely swimming in oil (See pictures and zoom in - I don't think it was ghee) and we both felt sickly all night afterwards with indigestion for me thrown in for good measure. I had lamb Korahi and my wife had one of the fish specialities, with pilau rice and garlic naan. The lamb was super tender and served really hot (but medium spiced as requested) but mediocre and the naan was overpowered by way too much garlic with the food served on stone cold plates which soon turned everything cold. The service was very good and the location is really lovely, we enjoyed a walk in the vicinity afterwards but the food was rather expensive. The standard of the venue and location means you shouldn't expect it to be cheap, but if your priority is good food and good value I'd look elsewhere based on our experience. There are many overly glowing reviews that make me feel suspicious as to whether they're genuine, maybe they are and my experience was a one off, it's certainly popular so hey ho, maybe we were unlucky, but I doubt it. I hate to post anything even resembling negative but I am being honest, this is a genuine review.

One of my top fav place to eat in the whole of the UK and been there quite a few times. I have loved their karahi (especially lamb) however I did find that you may not get it top notch every time but happy to take that risk.

The only good thing about this place is atmosphere, over priced food, taste is okish but not great. The prices does not justify the quality. The service is too slow, there are many other options where you can have better food in half price but if you are looking for seating and atmosphere then yes it offers a great experience

The sirloin stake was poor quality, the peppercorn sauce was like jelly?! and the mash on the side was absolutely horrible. Won’t be visiting again.

Ordered Karahi Chicken(on the bone) and Paya. Both were deliciously made with the spices perfectly done. Both dishes were fresh and really tasty. Our host Salma treated us kindly and helped us with our order. All in all a very good experience.

Three of us visited on July 24th, leaving a review only for the exceptional service provided by Salma, who was taking care of our table. A truly delightful member of staff who did her best to make sure our experience was positive.

We came here for a family event and the separated room at the end was nicely laid out. Great atmosphere and decor made the place feel spacious and luxurious. Free parking also available just across the road next to the school. Food itself was good. Nice views out to the dock as well and you can go for a walk afterwards too. Would recommend for a high end experience.

Lovely food, great portions, lovely staff and wonderful slightly quirky atmosphere.

The ambience is so nice and photogenic. But in the case of food I'm not happy with their butter parathas ( not properly cooked ) along with mixed veg ( like no salt in it ) with dal talka it looks like its not cooked or when we asked it should be mashed they just replied to us that in UK you will get dal like this only. So it's a bit surprising for me. But overall you can come for starters and drinks. Also for your selfies.

Not sure what to write to be 100% honest...just average, but it's only my opinion. I'm sure if some people like to take plenty of selfie photos it's a good place to be. Good decor...

The food here doesn’t quite match up to their Bradford branch, but the atmosphere benefits from the lovely riverfront setting. Service was on the slow side, though the staff were polite and attentive. One highlight was the mango lassi, which was refreshing and delicious. They also offer a range of fresh juices that are worth trying. The restaurant’s location at the docks provides a great river view, adding to the overall experience. Inside, there’s a shop selling their own perfumes, curry paste, spices, ghee, and more, which is a nice addition. Despite some drawbacks, the pleasant ambiance and courteous service make this spot worth considering.

Mumtaz Leeds has been on my "to do" list for over 5 years. I wish I had visited sooner. Excellent experience all round. The location is very convenient and easily accessible from the motorway. Large free car park is very welcome after a 2 hour drive to get to the venue. The waterside location is very pretty in the day and really comes alive at night. We arrived at a reasonably busy time for the restaurant, but nevertheless were seated very quickly. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable in the menu items. The food arrived very quickly and was thoroughly enjoyed. This alone is enough reason to return. I hope it is not another 5 years before I do so.

This place is a gas! A real must try. Great food. Great service great atmosphere

This place has gone downhill; mainly because of the lack of customer service. Waiters and managers need to be trained or retrained on how to deal with customers, and give them that joyful Mumtaz experience that is now a distant memory. Remember staff, the customers are paying good money to dine and are essentially paying your wages, learn how to be attentive and accommodating. It was a huge disappointment. The food was nowhere close to authentic. We ordered chicken tikka masala, which had no tikka chicken in it but rather normal cooked chicken. The masala was more like chicken jalfrezi than the smooth, silky sauce typical for chicken tikka masala. The aloo paratha was more like aloo naan, and the ras malai was tangy and not tasty at all. This restaurant is a disgrace to Pakistani cuisine. I'm really disappointed. I think it is only surviving because of English customers unfamiliar with authentic Pakistani food and are used to bland foods and anything with a little spice can excite their taste buds. However, for a native Pakistani, it was nowhere near authentic taste. Huge disappointment.
