Really disappointed with the coffee. First cup looked like the milk had gone off, and the replacement was so bitter - don't think any milk was used! Sadly, won't be returning.

Popped in for coffee and to ask if they’re dog friendly - still no idea if they are but they’re certainly not people friendly. Rude would sum it up. Zero smiles or welcome or anything. From chatting to another table that’s apparently pretty normal. Shame as the food looked nice and location is good.

A friend recommend this place . We had to explain what vegans eat and finally decided on.avocado on toast , then we were served with avocado and Brie on toast , The staff were very rude about our diet and really we should have walked out but we are polite people however will not be returning there , we visit lots of cafes on route on the Harley and this was the first bad experience . Okay cafe but not if you have dietary needs or want a pleasant atmosphere.

A friend took me here a while ago and although the staff weren’t particularly friendly, the shop was nice and the crayfish salad was really good. I decided to take my daughter there for lunch today but really wish I hadn’t! As we entered the shop a glass of wine was accidentally knocked onto the floor, we stood and waited to allow it to be cleaned up, there was no apology or thank you for waiting. There were four members of staff neither of which greeted us with a welcome or smile, in fact it was as if we were an inconvenience! We were asked if we had booked, which we hadn’t as it was a spur of the moment thing. There was much discussion as to whether they could accommodate us ( three tables had stock on them for the shop). Finally we were offered a table but we could only have it for an hour, we declined as we did not want to be rushed. This was all done very begrudgingly and made us both feel very uncomfortable! I’ve never been anywhere that made me feel like this and couldn’t wait to leave! There loss was the Highlands in Uckfields gain, where we had fantastic service and lovely food.

The only thing that spoils this quaint little cafe is the staff, the lady that served us made my partner and I feel so unwelcome! We almost felt like an inconvenience! A smile costs absolutely nothing! Maybe we were the 'wrong' kind of clientele! It was a shame because the food was actually really nice, but we shall not be returning.

I was early for a business meeting and thought I would have a stop at this cafe that I had been past many times before , after waiting to be acknowledged at the counter I was pleasantly greeted and shown a table. I had a cappuccino and a slice of Victoria sponge. The cake was dry and tasted so artificial - I ate it as I was starving- I haven't had cake like it before. The cappuccino was terrible, it hadn't been made properly, I had to ask for more milk and it was undrinkable, so bitter. I run a business and would be mortified if a customer of mine felt as dissatisfied as I did afterwards. I did tell them that it was a disgusting cappuccino and no apology whatsoever. £6.30 spent.

We would have said that serving a burnt tea cake on a plate that would burn fingers says a lot about the preparation. The old adage of “ Better coffee beans make better coffee” applies. We did not see the coffee prepared so not sure if it was out of a tin ,or other. That said, the take away flapjack fortified us on our walk. Rgds

Having been here many times before and thought what a charming place, this visit was shocking. Browsing through the cards we found the moat appalling, foul selection of cards. So incongruous you the surroundings. These were crude, sexist, mysoginistic, transphobic and hate filled, foul- mouthed cards. All of which children could readily read and browse. So disgusting i cannot repeat. We mentioned thus to staff to be told it wasn't their shop so three was nothing they could do. Also that many other people had complained before! But some people found them funny. Well there will always be people who find jokes about 'fannies' and 'tranny's' funny - it's not. It's tantamount to hate speech and I doubt it's even legal. This shop happily promoted this. I will NEVER return.

What a super place for lunch with friends.I have eaten here many times and it has never disappointed. It is advisable to book a table for lunch as it gets very busy. The choice of things to eat are more or less on a theme of sandwiches, paninis, soup or quiche and salad and deep fried brie. There are lots of cakes to choose from and many different kinds of drinks to choose from too.Apart from the food, this village cafe has a wonderful gift shop with cards, candles, reed diffusers and jewellery. There are also clothes, scarves and other items for sale, all at very reasonable prices. Especially good at Christmas time. The staff are attentive and friendly too. A lovely experience!

And such a nice relaxed atmosphere in this pretty little cafe and gift/ladies wear shop in the village. The two lovely ladies who run it are very efficient and food came to us quickly after ordering (Kitchen is open to the restaurant and looks immaculate). Simple but tasty menu and lovely cakes!Very popular with ‘ladies who lunch’ as it’s such a nice straightforward place to meet with friends. Came to Muffins for the first time today. After a run with my friend. I can only assume the woman at the counter judged me on my appearance because all I got was an unwelcoming filthy looks. I watched her serve other people and act completely different. Maybe because I wasn’t local or didn’t speak in a certain way or was in my 20s? When paying for our brunch I looked up to her GLARING at me once again, it actually slightly amused me as just because I am in tracksuit bottoms and a hoody does not mean she should be looking at me like I haven’t got a right to be there, apologise that I seemed to look of lower class. Will not be spending a penny more of my 30k salary at this establishment ever again. BAD SERVICE.

I've been coming here for about 9 years on and off. Each time I do it is to give it one more chance. The setting is lovely, food very good.. what let's it down is the people. Every female that I've dealt with here is very unfriendly. I used to come in on my way to Eastbourne hospital for chemo as a little pick me up; unfortunately I got put off by the person serving. However; after a long time we decided to try it again today. This time with children. Wow what a scathing look we received when we walked in the door. Once we had taken our seat I happened to look back at the counter only to pick up the unwelcome vibes! Despite feeling unwelcome we weren't the 'right' clientele we stuck it out and we were there about 40 minutes. Despite the disgust we would want to bring four children with us, all went well. And upon leaving we were very touched to be told by another customer how well behaved they had been and what a credit they were as they didn't once get down or make much in the way of noise. Not sure the ladies serving heard that.. what a pity eh? Anyway.. will carry on through how and head to Uckfield.. you don't feel unwelcome in places like Hartfields. Something Muffins could learn from!

Muffins is a cafe boutique in East Hoathly, with little tables outside. Great for sitting outside on a sunny day. The village is not on a main road as it was by-passed quite a few years ago which makes it a quiet backwater where you can park and walk to the cafe and have a table inside if you want. There is a good variety of food, and wines or soft drinks if you prefer. If you are in the mood to shop there are some lovely clothes and accessories for you to buy in the boutique and some imaginative gifts if you are looking to buy something for a friend or relative. Basically you can take a friend or relative there and treat them for a meal and buy them a gift on the same occasion. Perfect, or why not take your husband there and get him to treat you to a new outfit. We had tea and delicious cake: Lemon & Blueberry Cake and a Chocolate Cake. We look forward to going back to Muffins again soon.

I have been in there twice now, both times to get a coffee to takeaway (as there is nowhere else). Both times I was barely served by the staff at the counter. On my first visit I got my coffee and asked if I could have some sugar, the woman almost seemed to be offended by the request. She came back with two sachets and she then walked off. I then asked for something to stir the sugar in with. She asked for someone else to get me a spoon... I left feeling very irritated by the experience. The second time I went in there the TWO women behind the counter were just nattering away with some customers and ignored me for a few minutes. Eventually they asked me what I would like, and I asked for a takeaway latte. They went back to chatting for a while and eventually I got asked if I would like sugar. This time she was kind enough to put the two sachets in for me (Why use sachets? Surely they have pots or jars of it to hand!). I can't comment on sitting in and having a coffee but if its the same women serving I can only imagine its worse having to deal with them for a longer period of time! Also they were older women like another review mentioned so not sure if the younger staff are better at running the place.Almost forgot the most important thing! The coffee! Aaaaaaand it was average.

I only live about 15 minutes from East Hoathly but had never even heard of Muffins Café until a friend offered to take me there for a birthday treat. She said it was a real girly coffee and cake place with extras. She was not wrong!!! East Hoathly is a charming village complete with post office - and Muffins Café. As you enter you can see you are in a clothes/gifts/souvenir shop that just happens to also be a café. By the time I had reached my table I had already spotted a beautiful jacket that I knew would be leaving with me. There are only half a dozen tables and you can either have just coffee or tea and one of the scrummy cakes - or lunch which ranged from ham egg and chips through jacket potates, sandwiches and salads. The ladies on the table next to us had the plumpest prawn sandwiches I have ever seen - complete with salad and crisps on the side. We pushed the boat out with crayfish and avocado salads - the only problem is they were so large we were never going to finish them. We could easily have shared one between two. Which was sad as we also ordered a side of chips - which were wonderful - but we never managed to finish those either. The service was friendly and fast and of course, lunch over, we had to wander among the most amazing clothes. Upstairs there are even more clothes - all which were unusual and most I could have happily taken home! I ended up with a jacket and a lovely angora beret - and a very full tummy!I would certainly recommend this place for ladies to lunch or have a coffee and cake - and a browse. Definitely a find and will certainly be back. I want to see those prawn sandwiches close up next time!!!

You can also get a glass of wine for that special occasion. ie. Friday!!!

There are many excellent reasons to visit East Hoatly in East Sussex, it is a very welcoming village with its own brewery, two good pubs and a post office, all set in beautiful surrounding countryside. The gem in the village is Muffins , a wonderful Cafe that serves great food and Coffee. I tried the baked potatoe filled with Coronation chicken and returned two weeks later to have the same again. The potatoe was so light and fluffy that I was driven to enquire after their secret cooking method. The staff are all very helpful and friendly and as the cafe is set in a gift, clothing and jewellery shop there is much to interest the female visitor. only open 6 days a week , closed sunday, 9h00 to 17h30, well worth a visit.

I visit Muffins on a regular basis, food is always fresh an beautifully presented. Definitely the best sandwiches in a Sussex. Staff always friendly and pleasant, downside is I always spend too much because there is always lovely things for me to buy. Menu limited, however what is on offer is always consistently good, I really recommend Muffins for a pleasant place to have lunch.

I live in Brighton but regularily travel to Muffins for lunch. The food is fresh, the portions generous and taste amazing. The surroundings of this quaint tea room leave you eyes not knowing where to look first, from the glitz and glamour of the jewellery to the unique clothing or the spectacular lights. You can satisfy your hunger for food and specialist shopping all in one go, but you will return for more than the one visit believe me.

Love the shop with its different things. The jewellery, clothes and gifts not your normal run of the mill. Refreshing to see new things. I found the food good quality and value. Just love this little place.

A nice looking cafe but they served me teacakes with a large amount of mould on. I sent them back (obviously) & received the attentions of a rather irate employee who seemed amazed that I didn't care for any more. I was then given dirty looks as if it was all my fault. To top it all I was charged for my coffee. No apologies from Muffins Teashop! So disappointing & ruined a good day out.

Tried the Hay Waggon, which is under new ownership. Great barbecue with seafood kebabs and amazing local rump steak. Homemade ice creams are to die for. All served up in a wonderful garden

We visited the Boar's Head Inn at Crowborough today (19/6/24) for a Wake following the funeral of a dear friend. We were absolutely amazed at the wonderful spread that was provided. Both hot and cold food. Well presented and attentive service. Excellent! We have visited for lunch meals on a couple of past occasions and have always been impressed by the variety and quality of the food. Thankyou.

I’ve been to this place a few times now, when flying to and from Gatwick Airport. I’ve always been impressed by the staffs politeness and courtesy, going that extra mile. They are very dog friendly with treats at the bar, and water bowls provided. There has been a hansom, well behaved, and affectionate Australian kelpie dog there on a few of my visits. The rooms are reasonably priced have been consistently clean, tidy and comfortable during my stay. I would not hesitate to recommend The Plough Inn to any other traveller or patron.
