Arrived at 4 o’clock. Cafe only half full but majority of empty tables needed clearing. Stacked previous customer’s empty plates and cups onto another table to make space for ,shelf to sit down. Plenty of staff at the counter area milling around and even when a member of staff delivered a cooked item to a customer’s table, they walked straight back to the counter empty handed rather than clearing a couple of tables on the way. Just not a pleasant experience surrounded by dirty crockery and food scraps. Disappointed - would not visit again.

Very disappointing overall. Food was poor quality and poor size. I had the chicken burger which was tiny, and a portion of chips that were dry, undercooked and not seasoned at all. I also found a short black hair in my food, so very much not impressed! The only thing nice about the dish was the slaw.

Went here for afternoon tea order placed half an hour passed no sign of it. We complained twice only to be met with itson it's way. It was busy but not xcessively so. It was difficult to gain someones attention but a lovely chap called Niko did his best and eventually brought the items and provided a free coffee as I had consumed it during the delay. It appears our order was forgotten about for some reason When it arrived the afternoon was very tasty ti be fair. If we weren't in a hurry we would have requested a refund

Absolutely awful experience for someone who has allergies. Second time I’ve visited this cafe and both occasions have not sold the vegan option. Asked a staff member to check if they had definitely served me oat milk and wanted me to get up and check at the till despite feeding my baby. Ignored me and walked off. Dirty tables and dirty high chairs and just generally an awful experience. I won’t be returning and please don’t risk going if you have allergies.

The closure of the cafe which used to be on the ground floor has meant that the hard working staff in the cafe on the second floor struggle to cope with the demand, leading to the poor reviews now non trip adviser. On my visit yesterday, I had to clear a table of used plates, cups etc myself to find a seat. My main concern, however, was the temperature of the vegetable soup. It was scalding hot, as my now blistered lips testify. I had to quite a lot of cold water into it before I could consume it. This rendered it pretty tasteless Surely there must be a maximum temperature that soup should be heated to in cafes/restaurants.

Very busy at time of visit, long queue. The gentleman on the till was clearly following the company directive to promote the one bean coffee but his patter and "jokes" became wearing - especially when you were seated near that end of the café ie, "The one bean coffee doesn't mean it's made from just the one bean!" and "each sale helps to support the poor farmers". Who needs to be told that? You just want a good cup of coffee at a good price not a guilt trip. He was engaging with the customers a little too much whilst his colleague was quietly polite and serving the customers with greater efficiancy. Nice selection of food and excellent quality. In general staff were calmly industrious, friendly and polite. I just think the gentleman serving on the till was more of a hinderance to the flow of business and might be better placed elsewhere

my friend and i were in Bath for the day, we settled on M&S for lunch because we thought it would be good value and a good standard. We were very disappointed, we decided to have the all day breakfast, with poached eggs, there were only scrambled eggs on offer, which were overcooked, the bacon, sausage and mushrooms were almost cold, and very, very dry, i think the food had definitely been hanging around a long time, also we were given brown bread toast, which was okay, but would have been nice to have been given the choice of white bread . I would definitely not go back to M&S again for a meal and would not recommend it to anyone

My husband & I had a rare shopping trip to Bath, we go perhaps 1-2 times a year, we didn't have a huge amount of time to stop for lunch & we were passing M&S so I suggested we go in... BIG MISTAKESlow to order, one person on the till, having to take orders & also remove bottle tops, was getting irritated at this point, ordered two jacket potatoes with chilli & two bottles of diet coke, we not just use cans? Anyway, paid around £15 she gave me the number '13' for my food order & I instantly had a bad feeling! It would be just my luck if it was bad...Went to get cutlery, at least 50% of the cutlery is dirty, why is it not checked before putting out?! Just unacceptable Mark & Spencer's! So our jackets came out, both of the potatoes were hard & cold, I could have cried, I couldn't find a member of staff except for the girl on the till to complain & she was busy with a huge queue so I gave up, the chilli was nice though but there is no way I would ever eat here again, such an awful low standard. It wasn't even that busy, there just didn't seem to be any staff!

The M&S Cafe has nice decor and a delicious array of drinks and cakes - all also available in the Food Hall. But at mid-morning on a busy Saturday there were only 2 staff behind the counter - one taking orders and one making coffees. For a company like M&S which is trying to compete with other high street coffee providers, I find it extraordinary that they can't get the basic principles of speedy service right. And it ruins what ought to be a good centre of town coffee experience.

As usual in an M&S cafe there is always a long queue waiting to be served, However, like everyone else, I'm prepared to wait as the food is always good. The sandwich, shortbread biscuits and pot of tea was as expected, but I had to clear the debris - laden table, which also needed wiping over, before I could even put my tray down. The tables were so closely packed together that there was no room for placing shopping bags, and at this time of year, shoppers who drop in for a "coffee break" inevitably carry lots of bags. Not a relaxing atmosphere with staff who were obviously stressed. What a shame, M&S.

Having a M & S account I discovered a few weeks ago, entltled me to a free cream tea for two at the M & S Kitchen. On Monday I took my husband along fully expecting this to be a pleasant experienced. At the time we visited there was only a smattering of people at the tables and one person being served at the counter. We looked for an empty table, most of which needed a wipe down. Eventually we settled and I approached the counter with my voucher only to be waved at and asked to wait a minute while the guy about to serve me went out the back for some reason. He returned and didn't even allow me to explain - he obviously recognised the voucher I was holding and that was enough. He motioned me to a section where pre-packed sandwiches were in a cooler and requested I choose one pack. When I queried this saying I thought it covered two people he then said only one pack of sandwiches was allowed and indicated a display which apparently set out what was allowed. I was then literally rushed through with him talking so quickly I couldn't understand most of what he said. I chose scones which he loaded onto a small plate together with the cream and jam. Returning to the counter he placed it on the tray I had and motioned towards baskets with cake and various other snacks saying I could choose one. For two people? By then his brusque attitude made me realise he just wanted rid of me. There were by then only two people in the queue behind me. The café was not busy. He got another colleage, a girl, to organise the tea and disappeared. The pots and cups were dumped in front of me with cups and saucers and she left. I had to leave the teapots and come back for them. No tea plates were offered or indicated, my husband had to go up for those. What I felt was a total disinterest from a young group of people there who were obviously students. The great irony was that moments before I had been served on the first floor by a really lovely woman who was both polite and friendly. Had this been my café, this lot would have been kicked out. The tables while were there, remained unwiped and used crockery still sat around on vacated tables - a total shambles! Sorry I may shop in M & S in the future but I certainly won't be using the Kitchen Café. These were a lot of bored students just there for the pin money!

Closed down for a couple of weeks and transformed into the most characterless Cafe in Bath within a brushstroke. Previously, there was always a sense of occasion eating here and, although not a full on restaurant, it was pleasant enough to drop in to for a relaxed breakfast or light lunch and to be waited on by very personable staff with a slightly trendy air about the place. Waitress / waiter service, papers to read whilst waiting for more than acceptable food and a good place to meet up with friends.Drop in now and join the queue, select from the cellophane prepacked sandwiches etc, wait ages for the coffee to be made, find a seat in the now characterless badly arranged cafe ( strangely, achieved by retaining the old furniture which previously had a bit of a 'Habitat' feel), eat the boring 'off the shelf' food and get out quickly. Others have commented on the 'new look' and the fact that the top floor cafe, previously the poor relation, is in fact a better place to eat albeit serving the same food. Thankfully M&S Cribbs Causeway still retains their 'Deli' Cafe, but for how long I ask ?Give us our M&S Kitchen back PLEASE !!!!!

We, as a family, dropped into the M&S Café in Bath earlier this week, as we have done several times before. What a change - for the worse. With kids and for a light lunch it has been perfect in the past. Waiter service, warm welcome, good menu, bowls of veg with the kid's obligatory pizza and even a flower on the table. All in all good value, warm and friendly. However, this time it has been changed to self-service. The food is essentially what ever is on the sandwich aisle and heated up for the customer. The pizza was just a (bland) pizza. Soup was OK and my ham and cheese toastie was horrendously overpriced and plain. The staff, although courteous, were clearly missing the interaction with customers. The customers clearly miss the interaction too as the place was only half-full at 1pm. That should have been our warning I guess.

The food is over priced, badly presented, service is poor, always have to wait to be seated for at least 5+minutes, at least 4 bad experiences here, won't be giving it another chance with so many great independent cafes in Bath.

I reviewed this cafe nearly a year ago (March 2013) and following an E Mail to M&S complaining about the arctic conditions in the restaurant our subsequent visits were mostly in a comfortable and warm setting.Today though it seemed it was back to the old ways. Staff needing to work in fleeces, air conditioning units blasting down freezing cold air on a coldish day and customers all around sitting in outdoor quilted coats and woolly hats.A search for a 'warm' spot at first seemed to be successful but within minutes proved not to be. Zones under air conditioning outlets were free of people who retreated to corners to seek comfort. One customer seemingly changing tables three times trying to find the perfect seating position. In summary, the food is OK here and the ambiance quite pleasant but surely diners should be able to remove outer clothing and feel comfortably warm when eating, or would that reduce the frequency of customer turnaround ! I would have loved to write a positive review but diners should just not have to tolerate such conditions.

It is very convenient, situated on the ground floor of the store. The food is fresh and well presented, but I feel the place lacks a bit of atmosphere. There are other places I prefer when seeking refreshment in bath.

Second time of visiting but only just found them listed. The good points ,Our son and I had the full English breakfast, served before 12 noon, Mandy had the breakfast pancakes, all were delicious , freshly made and worth waiting for. With 2 pots of tea, one fresh orange juice, one latte and one black coffee, I don't think £28 was bad at all. With lots of friendly staff, who are all nice and its easy to attract one of their attentions if you need anything. Not so good points, we were told on sitting down that the cooked breakfast would be around 20 mins, turned out 30 mins from ordering. At least we were told, had to wait ages last time too, always have plenty of serving staff but they either don't have enough cooks or its only a small kitchen. Please also be aware this place is always freezing cold, you end up sitting and eating with your coats on and your feet never warm up.

We have dined here twice now and on both occasions it was very disappointing. A sign at the entrance asks you to wait to be seated. Visibilty in the restaurant is good but we waited for ages to be seated, even though there were a lot of staff around who weren't all busy. When we were eventually shown to a table it was dirty. We waited for ages but no one came over with a menu or to wipe the table. Other people were shown to tables near us while we were waiting and were served before us.I had to go up and ask for menus and for the table to be wiped.we waited a long time for our food. When it was brought over to us our food was put in front of us but we were not given any cutlery, and our drinks never arrived.I went up to get some cutlery and asked a waitress if we could have our drinks. She was rude and surly, and I was given a dirty used glass to go with my bottle of coca cola. I politely asked for a clean one and I was met with the same surly attitude again. It is a great shame about the disorganised, slapdash and poor service because the food it very good, when it eventually arrives. We won't be going here again.

Koffie prima. Een goed begin van de dag.

I popped in what I thought was the M&S cafe and got a lot more than I was originally after. I was just after a light snack but i was recommended to get a dine out deal which was £11 where I had glass of wine a main and desert which was all lovely. Food was quick and the staff all really friendly was a very nice environment will have to visit M&S bath more often!

Thought we would give m&s a go, were seated quickly, but had to call over staff, after waiting a good ten minutes to ask to order(even though staff did not seem flat out). Once ordered food and drink came quickly and was of good quality, only a couple toilets, but clean.

Myself and my 3 friends visited Bath for a the weekend. We took a visit to the busy "M&S Kitchen" for a light snack but we then got the "dine out" offer pointed out to us which was hard to resist. A main, desert and a small glass of wine for £10. Tasty food, great value and friendly staff. Wish they had one in our local M&S!

Food was ok but a bit overpriced for the small portions. Staff were friendly and helpful, although it took a long time to be able to pay. Toilet was disgusting though, took my baby in to change his nappy and was frightened to put him on the changing mat, the smell was overwhelming and my trousers got soaked with the water all over the side. Menu was a little limited but we both found something we wanted.

A quick lunch whilst in Bath, we normally have breakfast at M&S. we certainly won't be having lunch or breakfast again. Taking 30 plus minutes to arrive, told just before arrival that there was no side we ordered, the food was extremely poor. Two salads that looked insipid SMS thrown together. Overpriced and more like old style British Rail food. We will be voting with our feet. Recommend others to be wary.

The new M&S flagship store close to Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet is truly wonderful. It has three eating areas, all of which are first class. The menu consists of an array of food, all of which is also available in the food hall. I frequently lunch there and have never been disappointed. The staff go out of their way to help and the surroundings are very comfortable and attractive... and very fine coffee is served.

Stopped in while in Bath for girls weekend. Very disappointing, needs to stick to being a standard store cafe. Waitress service was very poor and would be more efficient to let customers order at the till. Crockery and tables dirty. Food and drink nothing to write home about. Lots of nicer cafes to choose from.

It was cold in the restaurant & particularly draughty where we were seated by the windows, (we didn't remove our outer clothing & nor did anyone else in the restaurant)! Our order was taken, after 30 minutes still no food! The electronic ordering system had failed. The staff were very apologetic & gave us extra drinks with no charge while we waited again. The food when it eventually arrived was hot & tasty. Despite good food when it arrived it was a relief to get out of there & warm up in the shop! I totally agree with all the comments made by Papabob, as we too had observed all the same factors that influence the heating or lack of it within the restaurant. What a ridiculous situation! Come on M&S do something about it & make it a pleasurable experience for your diners!

We arrived in Bath on 'Mothering Sunday' and thought that a treat might be breakfast at Marks & Spencer's Kitchen Cafe. Upon arrival the waitress, directing us to our table, did apologise if it was slightly chilly in the restaurant. We proceed toward the less populated part of the restaurant and were told that it might be better if we sat elsewhere, which we did. We sat down in the recommended position and commented that it was not in fact just 'chilly' but very cold, even where we were now sitting.Breakfast ordered, we soon realised that this was not the best environment for having a leisurely and enjoyable breakfast . We opted to stay but sat there wearing our outer clothing, gloves and hats, even then we were still very cold ( taking our gloves off to eat). Normally when eating in a restaurant we would expect to be able to remove our outer wear.Looking around the restaurant other diners were similarly clothed. Some entered the restaurant, sat down and then moved to another part of the restaurant in an attempt to find a warmer position. Others looked around wondering why it was so cold.It appeared from looking around the restaurant that :1.The restaurant is open /adjacent to three pairs of doors leading to the street.2. One pair of doors is 'automatic' and the passage of shoppers through these meant that these were continually open.3. Air fans above the external doors didn't appear to be making a difference to the air temperature.4. Apart from no partition / glass division between the restaurant and the doors leading to the street there was no hot air curtain in the gap at the entrance to the restaurant that could have otherwise assisted in preventing cold air entering the restaurant.5. Another pair of doors inside the restaurant( leading to the external dining area when in use) had an air curtain above but this seemed to be blasting cold air into the room rather than hot air.6. The air conditioning unit seemed also to be adding to the supply of cold air.We finished our breakfasts, still dressed in our quilted outdoor coats , scarves and hats and paid our bill. We were asked on payment " was everything OK" ? Our comment was " The food was lovely but the restaurant was so cold it just spoiled everything".To our surprise we were told that this was not an isolated incident and that there are always many complaints about how cold the restaurant is but no one really bothered about it! Wow what an approach to customer service that is ! It appears that even the staff have to come to work wearing thermal underwear indicating that this is a regular occurrence! In summary the food is great but it might be best to eat here during the spring or summer.I would have loved to write a positive review but diners should just not have to tolerate such conditions.

Food is okay and good atmosphere, but definitely horrible service. Most of the waiters don’t know what they’re doing, and it takes forever for them to come to take your order.

Popped in for breakfast as we were in the area visiting family. The morning staff and Manager were lovely and welcoming. The food was good, fresh and hot. Good value for money. Will definitely be visiting again.

Desafortunadamente, han convertido lo que solía ser un espacio encantador en algo realmente hortera e insípido con manteles de plástico y una decoración en general realmente horrible. ¡También estaba CONGELANDO! De ninguna manera podrías sentarte sin un abrigo.

Roast took 45 mins. Was cold and small. Vegan version in particular was tiny and same price as vegetarian but without 3 of the items and no replacement for what was removed. Cauliflower cheese the worst I've ever had! No compensation offered.
