We booked here for my daughters 24th Birthday. This was our first trip and we will definitely be returning. There were 10 of us having afternoon tea and they catered for the vegetarians and the gluten free person in our group. What can I say! The food was amazing! It tasted freshly made and there was so much of it that we ended up taking cakes home! The staff are also so friendly and accommodating. We had a look around at the antiques after our tea and my daughter ended up buying a vintage handbag. Such a lovely place. Thank you for making this day so special.

Coffee was watery not very pleasant. Dirty cutlery. Hash brown and mushrooms inedible I think the mushrooms were cooked previous day and reheated as all I could taste was oil and they had a rubbery consistency. Hash brown was so rock hard I feared for my teeth! I wouldn’t bother again. Burnt toast. Not a great experience. Can’t comment on shop as I couldn’t wait to get out of there.

My husband and I have used this restaurant for many years - welcomed by friendly staff, and a varied, reasonably priced menu. It's an interesting place to visit incorporating a large antiques and vintage clothes business on the upper floor - ( featured on Antiques Road Show) and part of the dining area. It provides an important service to the community and to those visiting the area.

Setting is lovely within antique centre. Tea arrived in garden and was well presented. However ordered the special mac and cheese and we were alarmed to be given two bowls of tinned macaroni limp lettuce sprig and some grated cheese. Not browned. Would not recommend this dish at all. Over priced and underwhelmed. Priced at £7.50 this was a total rip off. Will visit the shop but will not be frequenting the tea room. Definitely enquire if her specials are home made.

We had afternoon tea for a birthday celebration. It was excellent with lovely sandwiches, pork pies, quiche and mini scotch eggs. This was served with salad, crisps, coleslaw and pickle. This was followed by homemade scones with clotted cream and jam, macaroons and lemon cake. All served with bottomless tea in lovely bone china. A very enjoyable experience and helpful staff.

My husband and I had one of the best afternoon teas that I have ever had (and I've had plenty!). As soon as I had made my booking online, Liz phoned me to check any dietary requirements and asked if there was anything particular we wanted - just a cheese scone for my husband. When we arrived we were offered tea or coffee. There was a large teapot just for me from which I got four cups of tea out of it and halfway through the tea I was offered a refill. Now for the food - first out was a cake stand with mini sausage rolls, quiches & mini steak Bakes accompanied by salad, coleslaw and pickle. Sandwiches quickly followed with fillings of coronation chicken, cream cheese & cucumber and cheese & tomato. A choice of scones came next, cheese (with the option of cream cheese & pickle), fruit or plain with Jam and clotted cream. Cakes/desserts comprising of new york style cheesecake, chocolate choux buns and brownies finished both the afternoon tea and us off! Anything we couldn't manage to eat was boxed up for us to take home. I will certainly return.

I run and organise a walking group for Basset hound owners and in February we started, and ended our monthly walk here at the Chequers inn. There were 20 of us, with our dogs, all made to feel extremely welcome in the pub where we all enjoyed a fantastic roast dinner, and dessert. This isn’t the first time I’ve taken the group here, and it won’t be the last. Everyone in the group commented on how much they enjoyed the food. Very friendly staff, excellent food. Highly recommend.
