Very disappointing fish and chips - expensive - the chips were soggy and the batter pathetic - undercooked and also soggy, fish ok but spoiled by inferior chips and batter. This is no longer Mr Pia - different name. It’s amazing - they major on one product fish and chips - a great British tradition and yet they can’t get it right. Go to the pier at Tobermory if you want the real thing,

Perfect spot for a fish and chips by the water, fish was lovely and fresh and chips were nice and crisp. Would rate 5 star but lack of ability to pay by card puts it at 4 but don't let that stop you it's fantastic food for a very reasonable price!

Reviewing as Fyne Fish & Chips as this is its new name I assume? Cash only, handy cash point just up the road otherwise I think they’d lose business. Not much outdoor seating so we ate by the Loch. The batter was a bit soggy but the curry sauce was good and the chips were decent. The guy behind the counter could come across to some as cheeky but we didn’t mind it. Bit pricey but we were hungry!

Poor communication got battered fish instead of breaded, when I pointed this out they said it was my fault, couple of clowns fish wasn't even that good, won't ever be back, best to avoid saves on the disappointment, giving a generous 2 for okish chips, also too pricey tourist rip off.

Got there ten minutes before closing time so that may have affected availability in fairness, but I was told there were no small fish so only "large" fish. Fourteen pounds for a fish supper - the chips were good, the fish was fine but no more, batter actually partially burnt and the size was completely normal. So, fourteen pounds for a somewhat disappointing normal size fish supper. I felt totally ripped off.

Owner was obnoxious. We had to listen to a barrage of Fxxx you while other customers were present. All because we said must be good Drink at the cost. Easy fixed by 'yes, it is good' but no. Get out my Fxxxxxxg shop and don't come back. Guys got anger problems. Feel sorry for him more than anything else.

Nice food, hot, tasty and fresh. Staff were friendly and pleasant. Will visit again when I'm in the area.

Heard good things about this chippy, being one of the best in Argyll. However the reality is very different. Fish was tasteless and burnt. The oil in the fryers could also be doing with getting changed. Avoid!

Incredibly expensive. £4.50 for chips. £4.50!!! And they rip you off for a sachet of sauce as well. Not sure how they keep a straight face. They also use a lot of single use plastic. Not good.

Fantastic food, very friendly and value for money. all freshly made to order, so you know your food is fresh and not sat for ages.

Great place for a take-away, food cooked to order so piping hot. Haddock tasted great along with the chips. Great service, highly recommended.

Just had a ‘car picnic’ tea from here. Our plan was to eat down by the harbour but as the rain was pretty much non stop we had to eat in the car. Husband went to order, he was asked to pop back in 10 minutes and our food was cooked fresh. Lovely fish and chips and very friendly service from 3 young men. Fish was flakey inside crispy batter. We had 2 x large fish and chips and neither of us could finish our portions. Keep up the good work.

Restaurants were full so decided to get take-away fish and chips and we were not disappointed. They were cooked fresh to order and were well worth the 10min wait. The chips had a lovely bite to them and the fish batter was crisp and very tasty. The fish itself was clearly very fresh and cooked to perfection. The venue is now the Loch Fyne Fish Bar - we spoke with the owner Michael who was doing the frying - really decent chap and very respectful. If we hadn't booked somewhere for the following evening we would've been happy with another carry out.

Just managed to catch them 10 minutes before closing at 8:30pm. Without question, they cooked fresh fish and sausage with chips. Oh my, delicious! You gotta try this place!

Excellent food and friendly service. They must do batter differently in Scotland, it’s so much better than I’ve had anywhere else, less greasy but really crispy and thinner than I’m used to - loved it! Also when we were waiting outside for our order a staff member came out and disinfected the tables people were waiting at regularly.

Just wanted to say what fantastic proprietors. Popped in for Fish and Chips and had a really friendly chat with proprietor. Was interested in how our Summer holidays had gone and what we thought of Scotland. Not been called Sir for a long time! It wasn't just service but the fish was brilliant as we're chips. Food cooked to order but it was less than 10mins. Cash only but cashpoint next door. Just fabulous chippy.

What can I say. It’s a chippy. Or a chipper as some of a southern persuasion would say. Fish and chips to take away and eat by the harbour. It’s not cheap, but the fish is freshly cooked to order in a lovely crisp batter. Real chips and good service ran by a welcoming crew. I love it

Passing through Inveraray on a very dreich Thursday in West Scotland and ‘needed’ comforted by hot food. Went for simple chips. Was met by a very pleasant, helpful, communicative owner who made fresh chips whilst we shot the breeze re C-19. The chips were excellent and hit the spot and whilst the price was acceptable I can’t recall it exactly as it was irrelevant !!

Popped in for a take away over the weekend. Was greeted by the lovely, warm welcome on a miserable day. Ordered a Black Pudding supper & a portion of chips. We were asked if we wished to opt for the Stornoway Black Pudding Supper or standard version ? We decided on the Stornoway Black pudding. Food was cooked to order. I do need to say cooked to perfection & was a lovely treat on a wet Saturday afternoon. Would highly recommend.

The food we ordered was perfectly tasty, no complaints, nice fish and sausage suppers. The service was also very good.However the prices are very high for the size of the portions. The large haddock and chips is well over £9 but sadly the haddock was not very large at all - and the small haddock was tiny!So overall, average: food perfectly fine, service good, prices higher than nearby towns and portions smaller.

I visited here last week for my sister, had lunch and we both have travelled the world and have to say the fish and chips were delicious. We were both so impressed. We wish we could have gone back the next day but were only in Inveraray for the day. Just wished Mr Pia's was in the city where I live!

Popped in here for dinner while staying at the brambles. When I ordered the lady serving was incredibly rude and just seemed annoyed I was even ordering. £20 for two fish and chips which seemed ridiculous - especially since they were small portions! The chips were covered in little black bits so the oil they’re cooked in definitely needs changing. Both the fish and chips were very greasy. I wouldn’t return.

Great chippy on the Main Street. Had a great fish and chips, and even had it outside on a frozen night. Food went down well, and would recommend to anyone.

HOT fresh & tasty. Family run, genuine, Italian, homemade with love food. The best fish n chips in town and far beyond. No bones in the fish - it is fresh and delicious! Chips are perfect. Deep fried mushrooms ( sounds bad but are soooo GOOD!! ) ALSO some lovely home made italian biscuits for sale in the cafe - very VERY good.You will not find nicer owners of a restaurant / cafe / take away. You can taste the love and passion in the air as soon as you enter. The coffee is second to none. You will not be disappointed. Try the glass bottle juices ( I have never seen elsewhere ) - they are simply delicious, fresh fruit drinks. You will leave feeling absolutely 100% satisfied.... licking your salty n sweet lips all the way home :-) 5 Star

We had limited time, as we were on a tour. We stopped in and got an order to go. The gentleman was very quick, which allowed us time to sit and eat. It was piping hot and quite delicious.

Possibly the best fish and chips I have had in 10 years. Beautiful haddock and a lovely batter. The chips are done the traditional way and are superb. Staff lovely and attentive. Would suggest to any tourists to Scotland reading this that you try the fish supper here as far superior to the frozen fish used in many of the pubs and restaurants around. This place deserves recognition for using fresh produce.

First official Fish and chips! the portions are plentiful, the food delicious. A must when visiting Inverary!

We found Mr Pia's on a very wet/cold evening last week - think we were the only people out in Inverary that evening. The server, who we believe is one of the owners, welcomed us in warmly & provided outstanding haddock & chips for both of us. Absolutely delicious, but sadly the helpings were so large that neither of us had room for the ice cream. Will definitely return if in Inverary in the future.

We had fish and chips which we were both very pleased with. We ordered at a busy time which I always think is an advantage in a fish and chip shop which increased our chance of having freshly fried fish and chips. This is exactly what we received and wowzer the chips in particular were fantastic!

Had to make an unplanned stop with 50 kids at tea time. We arrived without warning and these guys went over and above to serve us quickly with top quality food. All of the kids were raving about their suppers and asked if we can stop there every time.

We both had steak pie , chips and gravy. The pies were dry and hardly any meat in them. One had been microwaved and was a soggy mess. Chips pale and soggy. Gravy was quite nice. Very disappointed and a waste of money.

I visited here with my family for fish and chips and my wife found a long black hair on her fish. When she took it in to the shop to show them the gentleman behind the counter became aggressive and told her it's not a hair it's a fibre from a top. He then came outside to where the rest of my family where eating and began to shout telling us to get up and go away all on main street west. All of this in front of my two young children. When I questioned this behaviour two more staff came out and began shouting. Unprofessional and absolutely ridiculous behaviour all because of a complaint.

This was the best fish I've ever had . It was salty and with just the right amount of malt vinegar . I want to eat here every week !

Been here b4...sat outside last time...This time carry out and sit over looking the water!!! Love a fish supper and in theses days good ones are hard to get....But this shop beats them all...so far...co oked to order, fresh as a daisy...and on a very busy Sunday afternoon...1st class...maybe a wee smile off the wee lassie serving every noo and then would a went a long way

Wir hatten Fish and Chips und eine Pizza. Beides war hervorragend. Die Pizza wird frisch gemacht. Keine Tiefkühlkost mann kann zusehen. Es gibt auch ein paar Tische vor dem Take away. Der Chef hat dort dann sogar nachgefragt ob alles passt. Nicht nur bei uns. Wir würden es eindeutig empfehlen und dort auch wieder essen.

Found this fish shop in a beautiful setting and had to wait for a while but the fish and chips were simply beautiful and well worth the wait. The Smith’ s from Birmingham

Great fish n chips. The young man that served us was polite and friendly. The fish n chips were perfect. Cooked to order, piping hot and fresh. The taste was delicious. Can’t recommend this place highly enough. 10/10

Popped in here when I wasn't able to eat in my hotel restaurant as they had a party of four people arrive and were overwhelmed at 7.30pm!

Thoroughly enjoyed our fish and chips which was freshly cooked to order. Portion size was generous. Friendly staff - no complaints and would recommend if in the area.

Our family of 3 Scots living in New Zealand made a special trip here to get a good fix of Scottish takeaways. I hadn't had a haggis supper for years so my choice was easy. I quickly dug in and realised that I had been mistakenly given a black pudding instead of haggis( easy mistake as they look nearly identical). I had to have haggis, so told the staff about it who were very apologetic and friendly. They quickly cooked me up a fresh haggis supper for free and told me to keep the black pudding supper. Needless to say I was very happy with the outcome! Great service and the haggis was top notch too. Good work guys!

Myself and my husband were on holiday travelling through Argyle and decided to visit Inveraray. When looking for somewhere to eat we smelled the familiar aroma of a chippy, following our noses we came across Mr Pias in the Main Street.

We stopped in for an early dinner and were absolutely delighted. The staff were welcoming and the food was delicious, especially the batter and chips. We also enjoyed being able to take advantage of the nice weather and sit outside. I’d highly recommend and we’ll hopefully pop in again if we’re passing through.

Really rubbish food, steak pie supper microwave Pie and overpriced. Best part is the staffs attitude trying to say you haven’t paid.

Three of us stopped in at Mr Pias for Saturday lunch (two cod & chips and one scampy & chips). The fish was ok but the chips comprised lots of hard bits (chip fragments). There was also a black coating on some of the chips suggesting that the fryer oil needed changing. According to the menu the F&C; was to be served with bread & butter but it didn't arrive. Overall price of £48 including (semi-cold) sodas was very steep relative to the quality of the food. At those prices customers should expect top notch hence I rate it poor based on value for money.

Got a pakora haggis supper, fish supper and a can of coke £14.30 (or very close to that) 6 tiny bits of haggis bathed in batter, both half boxes of chips, tiny fish. long wait. All in all, won't be there again

I only said the small fish I ordered was very small for the expensive price they charge and the owner said I can have my money back I think this is very rude to talk to a customer that way so because of his rudeness I took my £11.10 back for a small fish supper and 2 teas after reading the reviews of the food I’m glad I took my money back, so I’m now happy eating marks Spencer’s fish and chips and didn’t cost me the Earth. Can only rate it 1 because the owner never gave me a chance to try the food but looks like I had a lucky escape.

We visited here last year and it was amazing, so on the way home from a week away, we stopped at Inveraray for lunch again. Fish, black pudding & chips were delicious!

We pondered our eating options for early evening dining at Inveraray (there are many and all look good), but the perfect sunlit evening and million dollar view of Loch Fyne led us to join many other families by the waterside with take out fish and chips. Benches are plentiful and everyone was respectful keeping the well kept waterfront litter free.

Great Fish and chips, tasty and fresh. All cooked fresh , but for worth waiting for, all hot and fresh. Chips were superb and then we walked to the front and sat enjoying the views. friendly staff.

Went here on a half hour stop to Oban, tried the chips with curry sauce and it was lovely. The chips were cooked perfectly and the curry sauce tasted great with a very generous serving for a regular portion! Will definitely be back.

We were in a bit of a hurry to get back in time to catch the ferry back to Arran so stopped here to have fish and chips which we hadn’t had for a while ... we weren’t disappointed! The service was quick and the portion was good. Will be back again when passing through.

Got take away yesterday all fish suppers including a special fish it is expensive but the fish were large. If you are taking home do what we do and hold the salt and vinegar an do at home as the fish will remain crispy. Enjoyed the suppers if only a slight criticism special fish slightly over cooked but my dad managed to crunch through it. Will get suppers again and chips are fab

Stopped here on route home after a few hours travelling on the bike. It was a gorgeous day and the fish & chips were lovely! Very fresh! Would visit again if in the area.

First visit too Scotland on a bus tour from North Carolina after visiting Glencoe and Isle of Skye we stopped off at the lovely picturesque town of Inveraray and with the beautiful weather most of our group decided on takeaway fish and chips and what a treat that was I bought the haddock supper large and was delighted with the fresh crispy fish the place was busy but the orders were fast very much enjoyed!

Loads of choice we had pizza and fish sausage supper was very busy chip shop considering it’s easter weekend and one chip shop in area we knew we would wait but didn’t mind food was fresh and good and out in 20 mins! We were traveling back too Glasgow so satisfied our hunger.

Extensive menu but 45 minutes before shop closes are told fish or pizza only. As the fish was being cooked to order can't see why other things cant be.A couple actually left the shop due to this. There can be such a thing as healthy competition but as there is no other fish'n'shop in the area they wont up their game.

Popped into Mr Pias on our way through too loch awe on our family holiday for some fish and chips and was amazed by the friendly efficient service our fish was cooked too order in ten minutes as the young man at the counter had said fresh golden crispy batter and fish was fresh chips were also amazing kids had homemade margarita pizza that was also delicious and sausage supper we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and was great value for money this places reviews just doesn’t reflect the amazing food and service keep the amazing standard up will be back again!

Stopped here on the way round the road. Very friendly service. Delicious fish and chips and would highly recommend the mixed pakora. There is takeaway and a sit down restaurant next door.

Had fish and chips here whilst staying at the big wee hoose they were to die for cooked fresh to order also chicken. Albeit we didn't have the pizza they are made to order as well and looked delicious a must for locals and visitors alike

Fantastic fresh fish in crispy batter. By far the best I've ever had! The haggis pacoras are a must. Again perfect crunch, delightful centre and refreshing / spicy dipping source. Go for it! Really great!

Feeling peckish and having looked for an open chippy for what felt like an hour of driving through remote towns we found Mr pias. Got a bag of chips (sadly no rolls as they had not long re opened). Not alot you can write about just a bag of chips but they tasted really really nice, with a salt and vinegar ratio that was spot on.

I stopped by here during the Christmas Holidays. I was thoroughly disappointed. The first problem was that both the fish and chips were soggy and overly salted. This soggy salted mess felt like licking a wet salt cube. Horrid! On top of this the female working behind the counter seemed staunch and unapproachable. I managed to force in a small amount of these rather expensive soggy fish and chips. I doubt I'll be back in Inveraray as this was the only fish and chip shop in the area and I think they take full advantage with their steep prices and very low quality. The manager emphasised the high quality of her non-frozen fish but honestly I'd take a lower quality fish that is crispy (non-soggy) please. The can of coke I ordered was at least semi-chilled and washed away the flavour of the rest of salty, salty, salty food.

Sometimes I read reviews on here and wonder if it’s the same place I’m going to ! I’ve been to this chippy multiple times as I work in the area , and the fish is always cooked fresh and the staff have always been great . I’ve never had bad food out of here , maybe I’m just lucky but none of my work colleagues have either so there you go . My only complaint would be , and this goes for all West Coast chippies , start stocking chippy sauce as a condiment alternative to vinegar , you’d make a lot of ppl from Edinburgh very happy

I dont know what the bad reviews are about weve just had some gorgeous haggis and chips. The staff were lovely and friendly, chatty and polite no complaints at all about anything

We sat in and the place was pleasent and clean. Quite homely. The food was really fresh and hot when served and the presentation was great. Must point out that the coleslaw was delicious. Our server was polite to us and friendly. The only down fall was the staff arguing put the atmosphere down a bit making a bit awkward not knowing were to look. A staff member had locked themselves away and 3 different people had came banging the door at seperate occasions to ask her to come out which was a shame as they were obviously needing help with the work load. Once she did come out there were 3 arguments all done quite loudly and there was some swearing. Now I fully understand work stresses and arguments but wow it should be taken elsewhere as it is pretty awkward. Other than that I would recommend as this could have just been a one off bad day as the food was lovely.

I have been to Inverary many times in the last 10 years. It is where my ancestors are from so I feel a real connection here and I absolutely love this town. I have eaten at pretty much every restaurant in town and have spent a lot of time in town shopping and being a "tourist". Most recently I visited with my wife, daughter and nephew on a quick visit as we were traveling via cruise ship and took a cab from Glasgow just to see and show my daughter the town. We didn't have a lot of time to spend so we figured a quick take out lunch from Mr Pia's was in order as I have never eaten here before.

Visited here earlier in the week and had special fish supper. Fish was okay and so were the chips. Fish was slightly overcooked as were the pizza suppers.

I was one of Tom A’s party and can assure the owner that his review was totally accurate. Awful stodgy batter and the oil for the chips needed changing.

Only disappointment on weeks holiday in Inveraray. Decided first night on takeaway fish and chips which seemed quite pricey so expected good quality. On arriving back at holiday house I discovered the batter on the fish was rubbery, stodgy and unedible. The chips were cooked in oil that needed changing so tasted stale. There were four in our party and we threw most of the food in the bin.

We had a night in Inveraray (such a pretty village!) and tried this place, were really satisfied. We asked for hamburger with salad and chips, plus onion rings. We were perfectly served, the lady was realyl kind to us, waited only shorty, everything made fresh. We took our boxes to a bench in front of the lake and had or dinner in sunset. Perfect location and perfect food for a good evening! Would defenitly go back!

Passing through Inveraray yesterday ( September 1st ), stopped for Fish & Chips. To say they were awful is an understatement. Chips were yellow/green, the Fish was soggy, the batter was soft & gooey to the point we could remove it all in one from the fish! At £7.50 a portion it was an absolute disgrace! Clearly they have no experience cooking chips or making fish batter. I have never seen fish batter like this in my life! Revolting! Photo below...

We all fancied a chippy tea so looked at the reviews which were mixed to say the least, decided to take a chance and glad we did. Not sure which place the others visited as the staff were helpful and polite, cook time no more than I would expect food was lovely, we had smoked sausages, fish, chips, peas and gravy. All was very nice. Even advised that the large chips with small would be more than enough. In summary, good value, nice food and very pleasant staff, we will visit again no doubt.

A must in Inveraray! The fish was excellent. The seating was unique and wait was brief. I would highly recommend when travelling to Scotland!

My husband and myself stopped here for a take away meal on a recent trip to Inverary. I had the sausage and chip dinner (this had two battered large sausages!) and my husband the battered black pudding and chips. We enjoyed the food and I'm afraid the seagulls went hungry as we ate it all! The young woman serving was chatty and friendly.

I ordered 2 fish and chips from this establishment. Huge mistake! Frazzled chips, stingy portions of fish and extortionate prices. The chips were fried to a crisp. I received one piece of fish rather than 2 which is definitely standard at most other chip shops, and the fish was dry and tasteless on the inside and greasy with a lot of undercooked batter on the outside, not a great combination. One of the fish went immediately in the bin, disgusting! The only positive I can think of the experience was the staff were relatively friendly and the seagulls enjoyed the best part of our dinner, so it didn't go to complete waste.

We were staying over the loch and Mr Pia’s was recommended to us. Ordered over the phone for collection and then took our food to the loch edge to eat. While very different to the chips I’m used to in Devon, they were very tasty! Service was quick and friendly.

We have ate from here before, its our regular pit stop on a journey from Campbeltown back to Edinburgh. This day a Thursday evening the quality of the fish supper was substandard. The fish & chips were frazzled! The seagulls had a feast that night.

Ate here on one of the hottest days this summer. Not only was the food impressive but the staff were too . How they were so cheerful in the sweltering heat of a hot kitchen is a credit to them. And the fish and chips weren't too bad either!

Had a small fish and chips which would feed a large person more than adequately. Chunky chips delicious fish, lashings of salt n vinegar, eaten overlooking the harbour.

We popped in here (about 30 seconds from where we were staying) so that we could enjoy a chippie whilst watching the World Cup - despite some negative reviews, we really enjoyed the food! Fish was tasty and so were sausages, perhaps they could have been slightly crispier but were nice. Chips were good and not soggy as everyone says! Overall very good, the only negative really was having to pay for sauce - unusual not to be offered it on your suppers. Would go again!

Stopped off here for lunch, and was happy to have done so. One large fish supper with a big, crunchy battered, fleshy, moist piece of hadfock enclosed, and a very subdtantial portion of "real" chop shop chips eaten sitting outside on a sunny day, really hit the spot. The smaller supper was equally excellent. Everything cooked fresh. Thoroughky enjoyed the experience.

Over £9 for a large fish supper so opted for the small. This is still over £7 can you believe but only 1 piece of fish included. Every chippy I’ve ever had gives you 2 pieces with a supper. Shame no competition as this place is extremely expensive for a chip shop. Sausage was really nice.

When we eventually got our fish and chips in the restaurant we realised that while the fish was hot the chips were only luke warm. So we told the waiter, who took ages to understand because of limited English. He proceeded to plonk a small bowl of chips between us and left us to it. Far less chips.
