Rubbish avoid, there is so much wrong with this place, just don’t waste your time or money, your taste buds will thank you .

Avoid AT ALL COST!!! Frozen chips, frozen fish and all that for a horrific £15 price. Far away even from a mediocre traditional chippy. The definition of a turist trap. What a shame.

Shocking customer service! Would not return..

Very disappointing. 'Breaded' haddock, small like you get from a supermarket but we'll over four times the price. NO battered option. Trades on the £15 a portion, which is less than other local real fish and chip shops. So we were duped. They do not use words like 'freshly caught' or 'local' so I bet frozen. There is another local family run chippy which I wish we had paid the extra £6 for (on top of the £32 I had already paid). Spoilt my day. Also surly staff. Avoid.

Awful. Just a ridiculous price for what you get. They are just there to scam tourists in buying their overpriced, tasteless fish. Avoid this place at all costs I would say. Their service is even worse. As tourists, experiencing the warm hospitality and kindness of Scotland, we can only describe their attitude as a shame for their fellow locals.

This is the worst example of customer service I've seen in six years of living in Scotland and 30 before of visiting. We asked for haddock and chips and scallops and were told that the grill was closed for the day. Being hungry and tired we ignored surly manners and ordered crab sandwiches and teas. Although entombed in thick and soggy bread, the fresh crab, give or take a bit of shell, was definitely the high point of the visit. The older woman seemed to think she was doing us a favour just by being audible, while the younger one, the 'blonde' with the noticeable moustache, set our order on a counter which my wife could barely reach, when it would have been just as easy to hand it down. Within five minutes of our being seated, the grill was up and running and hot food was being served to other customers. It cannot have been anything we said, but it may have been our English accents that occasioned such bile. Go elsewhere... anywhere. We will be laughing about this childish display for years.

Super unfriendly ladies who looked after the stand and you could see how much they enjoyed their job and the food was inedible.

Absolutely awful, £15.00 for undercooked frozen Iceland chips, fish so thin you could practically see though it, the biggest fish there was the old trout serving who was so rude. Avoid, much better places to eat in Oban

As other recent views suggest appalling customer service but also the bread on the crab sandwiches was so soggy from condensation and then when we complained as they could not be eaten, we were reluctantly offered crayfish sandwiches. Not only were these also soggy but two hairs were in one of them. At this point we chucked them in the bin and didn’t head back to complain. Money down the drain. Avoid completely - there were other places (busier with hindsight) definitely don’t go here!

Really looking forward to eat here never again customer service was awful everything to much trouble. Meal wasn't the best over priced large chips 5 pounds looks medium and seafood I had was reasonable. Should of gone to the one round the corner but was to busy shame .

Never had such unfriendly service anywhere, what a poor advert for Oban. The young lad wasn’t too bad but as for the two females..one older, one younger it seems that having a public facing job isn’t for them. Heard the older woman being extremely rude to an American customer, he had obviously asked if they sold some item and her cheeky response was..Does it look like we’ve got it? Do you see it eh?? in such a rude, abrupt manner, hardly welcoming! We visit Oban regularly for day trips and will certainly not be giving this out custom ever again.

Service was awful 2 very rude lazy cows ignored us whilst we stood waiting and just chatted, finally having been served tables were all filthy, go elsewhere which is what we will do next time we visit Oban

Had a prawn sandwich. The taste was quite good, but the hygiene was probably not taken very seriously. I had severe food poisoning afterwards.

Right off the train. Great fresh catch food. A real cultural example of the food and the people. A rustic seaside picnic table subject to the weather. On a day for nice weather well worth it. On a day with horrible weather still worth it.

we had the fishermans plate and a salmon sandwich. no complaints, everything was tasty. people at the stall were very friendly. nice food with a view of the harbor.

We bought fish and chips from Macgillivray's and it was terrible. It was the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The fish was spoiled and looked like it came from a corner shop. We will never buy from there again.

Most disgusting fish and chips I’ve ever seen/tasted. Fish was definitely not fresh - had been defrosted and not well cooked. £15 is massively overpriced - using location to lure in unsuspecting tourists. Staff were not friendly and generally miserable/grumpy with all customers.

We do not recommend this place simply Because the customer service was absolutely shocking.

Not sure about the food however I have never experienced such a rude customer service. I was told by The woman who’s older brother owns the business that he was suppose to come and kick me and my family out as we only bought 4 cans of Fanta and no food. Shocking, rude behaviour of the older woman. More love less hate, put some smile on your face lady, life’s too short and money are not everything!

We are locals and visited for a spot of lunch yesterday. Customer service was disgusting . Young woman and older woman were working together and couldn’t even crack a smile or a please and thank you . Even although we made a point to go over at the end of our food and say thank you very much . Young girls just looked at us both like she had scraped us off her shoe and the older woman turned away from us. Deffo won’t be going back if that’s how you treat your locals it doesn’t bode well for the tourists. Other than that the food was good. Very unfriendly and unwelcoming atmosphere .

Great customer service and lovely food. You won’t get fresher. Perfectly placed on the peer complete with tartan parasols on the picnic benches.

This is a classic fish and chips stand, where you can enjoy a great traditional fish and chips, or different types of fish. You can add sauce to your own liking.

Just been to order langoustine. Young girl couldn't crack a smile. Langoustine absolutely covered in eggs, too much to bear. Asked for bowl of water and told £2.00. Worst langoustine and experience ever!!. Mother had face like fizz. Definitely not friendly and accommodating. Just wished the green shack hadn't sold out but won't ever give them another visit or penny. Hospitality course required for both of them!!

Awful food and service, they were getting ready to close and we were their last customers. Scallops and langustine were disgusting, may have put me off eating them for life. Gentleman cooking was nice enough which is more than can be said about the woman working in the van. Abrupt, rude and totally lacked any customer service. My visit to the awful café totally spoiled my day. Do not visit.

The fish sandwhich was not good at all. Would not recommend

The mussels where lovely and chips were good. Customer service was dismal, they definitely need to learn that a smile and a welcome go a very long way especially when spending hard earned cash . The guys who cooked the mussels were quick, pleasant and had great rapport. I would go back for the food if the service improved.

Scallops and Logostino were fantastic.

Great food, and super fresh. We saw the langoustines coming off the boat and going into the pot. They were really good, the muscles went down well too and the fish and chips were lovely too

Great scottish seafood produce. Well worth a visit for lunch with a nice view. Crab sandwich had less crab than the crab sandwiches they do in Tiree Crab Company in Scarinish, Isle of Tiree, but other than that, great.

Overpriced and 30% of mussels were not even open for a plate that cost £15. Card machine stopped working and I was told that I had to get cash from bank across the road before collecting food. The time I returned to then queue again and then pay the food was cold. Not a good experience at all. If you go around the corner the same dishes are all £2 cheaper and far better quality.

Pay for your shellfish and watch it being cooked,been here a few times over the past few months and it gets better each time,the scallops n cream and wine were delicious,so were the longustines

So this was the first haddock and chips from Ireland's hake and the Isle of Man's cod. I personally prefer haddock. Absolutely great meal, Oban itself was particularly busy with tourists from all over. Starters of prawns and salmon three ways, followed by the fish and chips and moules marinare.

Chips didn't taste good, not crispy, maybe old oil, crab sandwich pre-packed was bland and the bread was soggy, all this for £9! Won't be dining there again!

Literally the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Chips were undercooked, fish was bland, nothing was crispy and nothing was seasoned. Avoid avoid avoid.

Overpriced, rude lady cooking fish and chips, go to the green shack round the corner better food and half the price

The seafood here was amazing. We got a plate of the scallops and a plate of the muscles. The portions on each were generous. They were both very tasty and the sauce went perfectly with the seafood and with the rest being deliciously sopped up by the generous portion of buttered bread.

We called at this establishment just to try the famous Scottish langoustine. Very bland and over rated. Quite expensive for what we got.

Walk past, and you will discover real traditional fish 'n chips being served a little further along the pier. Apart from their fish being fried in store bought breadcrumbs instead of battered, their chips are made from frozen, not fresh cut potatoes....unforgivable for a so-called traditional fish and chip shop. Worse still, the food is prepared and served by staff who are wearing their ordinary, and very soiled, day clothes. It's not a very hygienic look.

Absolutely disgusted by the staff at this establishment. Was sat by the water with my children eating prawns from the other seafood round the corner and my children threw some crisps to the seagulls. The wee woman who I think must own the establishment came balling at my children trying to tell them off, when I had words I was called an English **** as she was walking away. Think someone was more annoyed that not one customer was at her establishment and the seafood bar round the corner was packed…..wonder why when she thinks that is an acceptable way to speak to children and their Mother. To be called an English **** when my family lives on Mull and owns half the fisheries and hotels over there is absolutely shocking behaviour. I can however recommend the wee seafood bar round the corner. Beautiful fresh seafood and polite welcoming staff

Not a great place. Totally overly expensive. The woman who runs it was grumpy and rude and the daughter looked embarrassed by her mother's behaviour. The old feller cooking seemed friendly but never stopped swearing (I had my little daughter with me). I was gutted to find another place serving the same food much cheaper if you walk for litrally two minutes more. The only positive was the view from the seating area.

My husband and son had fish and chips on Saturday for lunch, which was ok, but the portions are quite small for the price, in my opinion

Great views. Stellar seafood. Menu options. Friendly service. Entrance hard to find but worth the climb upstairs for ferry views and scenic harbor. Upscale fresh excellent

Very poor quality tourist rip off. Langoustines we’re so small they were unpeelable therefore inedible £15 worth of bin fodder and that’s exactly where it went. A disgracefull representation of Scottish seafood. There was American customers who were talked to by staff like they were children very rude uncaring staff. I raised the issue with the langoustines and they were not interested Places like this should not exist. Oban has some great seafood restaurants and this I’d NOT one of them. Shameful

The food was not bad (although probably not good enough for the price), but the girls' cutomer service is shocking. I felt like I ruined their day by being there. Delicious seafood café on the pier at Oban, MacGillivrays serves freshly cooked langoustines, scallops and mussels, as well as fish and chips. Pricey but worth it.

£15 for fish n chips! I was expecting something special, how wrong was I. Absolutely terrible, we complained but no sign of a refund. Diners beware!

Simply awful. Chips frozen and not fresh or tasty. Very small portion of fish which was poorly filleted and contained numerous bones. Grey and sad peas. Worst cup of tea I've had in my life, literally undrinkable. Avoid! Tourist trap!

Disappointing. More expensive than near Edinburgh, smaller portion and mushy peas rather than garden peas. Poorly filleted fish, see pic of bones. Handy if you've just got off the train but for a 5 minute walk round the harbour there's far tastier options to sit in or take away. A generous 3. Also look around you, loads of shops and services nearby have bilingual.signage. why not you?

Fantastic food at very reasonable price. Pleasant and enthusiastic staff. Ideal location to sit eat and watch the world go by

All the way from Glasgow for a fish supper, deeply disappointed by poor quality frozen food, most of my lunch went in the bin.

Substandard and over priced plate of food. £15 for a plate saturated in grease, fish (full of bones) and chips clearly from the frozen food isle and peas so blanched, they were lacking even a hint of there former selves!!!! A complaint to the manager...

We came back here today and we were really disappointed with the lingoustine. We were charged £34.00 without drinks. Ridiculously expensive! It doesn't look like the lingoustine we had last summer. The man was friendly enough not the women staff are not. We are not coming back here. We will try local shellfish just 5 yards up the stall next week. Local shellfish are definitely so much cheaper and the queue were really long so that was a good sign.

£30 for 1 plate of 5 Scallops & 1 plate of 14 mussels. Need I say anymore or and cash only ! Love supporting a local business but hate being ripped off.

Fish snack cooked on site and enjoyed on wooden tables. Dishes could be a little more economical

Usually go to George St chippy but as it was a nice day came here 2 breaded fish and chips garden peas between 3 and most was left as you could tell they were frozen shop bought chips that were undercooked and very pale.fish not...

Absolutely shocking customer service and such average food. Don’t bother eating here at all. We bought a whole (fresh and delicious) hot lobster from the green shack, but also wanted scallops and chips so walked along to this tartan shack. After paying £15 we’re told rudely we couldn’t sit anywhere near the tartan shack cause the owner would “kick off” if he seen the other businesses food. How childish and embarrassing - he obviously feels so insecure about his mediocre food. He needs to grow up.

The worst customer service we’ve experienced in Oban. We were told to move to eat somewhere else even though we had just bought scallops and chips from them. Don’t bother running a business if you’re gonna be childish about who can sit where based on what food they have. Bored.

Absolutely not recommended! I had fish and chips, the fish tasted like mussels (clearly cooked in the same fat), the chips were mushy and the peas were totally watery. The operators are also rude. Pure mass processing at the port without quality.

Initially walked up to the counter and the grumpy server told me “we’re not taking orders, you’ll need to wait 5 minutes” I said fine and stepped back and waited. Overheard her then gruffly barking at someone else “we’re not taking orders for 20 minutes” when I asked if it was now a 20 minute wait I got another grumpy and abrupt response so we gave up and went elsewhere. No idea how good the food is but the customer service was terrible.

We enjoyed our delicious fish n' chips lunch at this cute tartan-decorated outdoor food wagon with lots of character! Sitting alongside the harbour and the bustling city of Oban was really nice while enjoying some traditional Scottish food.

Amazing! Dish of the day was fresh caught lobster with lemon. I've never had better!!! Cooked to perfection!

Whilst eating our meal the foul mouthed owner was attempting his version of some staff training - we overheard the tirade of f@#$ing and blinding that he was directing towards his poor staff. Absolutely shocking. Oh, and there was hardly any crab meat in our crab sandwiches and what was there was mainly brown meat.

Greate Chips but the fish was dull. Not stingy with mayo, ketchup etc. A bit on the pricy side. Not worthy to recomment for Fish N Chips.

Great seafood with a nice outdoor seating area on the seafront! The langoustines were fantastic. Been here twice now and it’s great to get a taste of some fresh seafood. Like all seafood, it’s a wee bit expensive but that’s to be expected as it’s fresh. Totally worth it though! 🦐

Lovely fresh prawns straight from the neighbouring fishingboat (creel caught), fresh mussles and scallops, even the sandwiches were delicious! Very friendly staff, excellent food, very nice views to the fishing harbour.

Similar quality to Morrisons/Asda cafe fish and chips. Not worth your time

I wish we’d known about the seafood bar around the corner. Unfortunately we didn’t so we stopped at MacGillivrays. The welcome and service was as dour and cold as the day, the fisherman’s lunch (garlic langoustines) and chips entirely disappointing, Tiny, difficult to peel langoustines...

It's ok, like it's not bad. I had the scallop and chips but preferred the scallops from the green shack just next to the ferry terminal.

I have travelled the world including europe, australia and hong kong. Never have I sampled seafood like macgillvray's anywhere. The quality and freshness are outstanding. We were up for the week so was able to indulge more than once. I had the scallops without chips...

The food was rather disappointing, the place was quite busy and that may be the reason why the food was not especially well cooked. The scallops were still raw inside, the mussels were cold and undercooked, the langostines were stone cold as well. Thankfully the chips were hot although some were also undercooked. The owner was quite apologetic and offered to replace the food that we received with something better cooked but it was just too late as the lunch was basically already ruined. Perhaps the quality of the food will improve when the place is not so busy. All in all, not a very good experience for us.

Top class, best scallops I have ever tasted. Great service and value for money. Recommended, a must if your visiting Oban

I had lunch here 3 days out of 4 recently. Nice fresh seafood available here and outside seating with a harbour view. I shall return.

Street style purveyor of seafood with plenty of fresh produce locly sourced. The langoustines were sweet tasting and the scallops superb. The salads on display looked appetising and were well presented. Can get crowded and cash only ( not a bad idea).

The sandwiches turned-out to be brought-in, not freshly made, just like you’d buy in a corner shop or supermarket. And more salad than crayfish. If I’m back, I’ll queue for the Seafood Hut.

We only had an ice cream from here..it was very poor. It tasted of ice only. It's a real shame as the stall is in prime position on Oban harbour. I think tourists and locals deserve better.. service was pleasant but they need to change...
