Mr Munch in Basingstoke and Deane

My wife and I came in to have dinner. The servers seem more interested in talking about their rota than taking our order, we nearly walked out. We both ordered gammon, egg and chips, my egg looked like it got run over by a car tyre and my wifes was almost the same. Not sure when the new owners/management took over but gone down hill since. We won't be going back.

Asked for cheese burger wirh tomato and lettuce. It came plain. Chips were ok. Had to ask for knives and forks as they brought the food out and walked away. Burger wasnt pleasent to eat.

First time here as I'm out and about with the clients I'm looking after today. The staff are friendly and helpful on what is good to have on the menu and the Grape Escape smoothie is nice and refreshing for a hot day The cafe is nice and airy and the food 🥝 s lovely too.

If you like proper British fatty slap up food this is the place for you. Got an unbeatable calorific full English and polished off every bit. Sassauge, beans, eggs, toast, bacon can’t ask for more. Clientele are slightly off putting but can make for great people watching

Visited today and was appalled by the hygiene standards. 1 the two cooks had no hats on and were playing with each other’s hair and drinking from a bottle. At no time did they wash their hands. 2 ) one server doing all the cleaning up whilst the two played with their hair, again no hand washing. 3) the manager/ owner came on the scene from outside, no attention to wash hands.

We’ve eaten here before several times and the food generally ok. We visited today and it was a completely different experience. The vibe has gone the staff are different and the food took forever and wasn’t that great either.The staff seemed confused or were just not qualified enough to be on site. Another cash only outlet that’s clearly feeling the pinch. Very strange experience today compared to other times we’ve eaten there ☹️

Went with a friend for brunch, and ordered a large breakfast and a latte. The breakfast was to a good standard and really enjoyable. I have been to Mr Munch many times and have never had any issues. Once again on this visit, the service was friendly and welcoming and we had no complaints. I would recommend to anyone looking for a good old fashioned fry up :-)

I do enjoy a good fried breakfast, I am never disappointed by Mr Munch. Food is what it is - basic and good value. Friendly staff and service with a smile. Be aware that they only take cash payments and do not accept cards, which is not a big deal as there is a cash machine outside. I would recommend if you like this kind of food, the menu has a good choice and also a good selection of kids meals.

We sat at the table and We were invisible, nobody seemed to want to bother asking if we wanted drinks or foods….very disappointed with the service we will not be visiting again….

In Basingstoke for the festival of transport. Found this gem of a cafe. Wonderful breakfast! Great service, great food. Best breakfast I’ve had for ages. Thank you so much👍🏻

Had a great veggie fry up on Sunday lunchtime. Generous portion of 3 hash browns! Annoyed o didnt take a photo. My husband had a cheeseburger, which he enjoyed with a generous portion of chips. We will definitely be visiting Mr Munch again :)

I was happy with my visit to mr munch I was pleased to see it was cash only unlike a lot of places now a days sometimes it’s nice to just simply pay with cash. The food was great and the service was brilliant only think I would say that I was slightly unhappy with was when I went to pay and the waitress was quite clearly not in a good mood I understand retail is hard but customer service is key.

Came and had a beautiful fry up tasted amazing and great value for money thank you will Definitely come again

Lovely little cafe. Me n the boys on lunch often go here. Nice bakon buttey proper good food. Fills me n the boys up for the day. Honestly best gaff in bstoke. Shame you cant bring dogs in tho or smoke inside.

Good value for money. Table service. Ckean with friendly staff. Nothing fancy. Cash only, so take cash with you.

My granddaughter and I went here today not as good as it was years ago, I had egg, beans and chips beans only luke warm, didn’t like chips only ate the egg, had a latte I sent it back looked like warm milk, granddaughter had chicken nuggets, chips and beans. Very disappointed!!!

This is a no frills cafe you get what you see. Serves all day breakfasts to your own choice if you wish or straight of the menu. very clean cafe very polite staff . Always go to cafe when we are in the area.

Visited yesterday for breakfast and it was delicious... proper good hearty breakfast lovely eggs.Didn’t give it a full 5* as the bacon could of been cooked a little longer. It was lovely and hot and a good cuppa. My son had a hot chocolate which vanished in no time. Will definitely return and recommend

It’s great to have a place that provides a substantial tasty breakfast just like you used to be able to get. For me personally having the option to add bubble and squeak made my morning meal perfect. Everything was clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly and professional.

From Monday to Friday breakfast at our house is either cereal or toast or both. So Saturday breakfast in Mr Munch now and again is a real treat. The breakfast baguette is good, so are the set breakfasts, and we have had egg and bacon sandwiches too - all delicious, No, its not the Ritz but you are not paying fancy prices, and there is good strong hot tea ( coffee is a bit hit and miss on occasion) food is served quickly and service is polite and friendly.

Mr Munch has been in town for years...and has served, without doubt, the best breakfasts in town for years!

popped in for a quick bite to eat, superb service, very fast, always friendly in there, kids enjoy it. Just typical great food, cannot ask for more. SUPERB... HIGHLY RECOMMEND if this is your type of thing

Been here a few times and have always been satisfied, staff are friendly, service is ok and food is good, my only complaint is the mushrooms, please don’t deep fry the mushrooms for breakfast! It’s not nice!

This is almost on the lines of a good old-fashioned "Family Café ". The menu is simple ranging from breakfasts of fried food and omelettes to basic grills with the usual range of hot and cold drinks. The prices are low, not quite as low as they used to be, but food is well-cooked to order and piping hot with friendly efficient service. The surroundings are relatively basic but clean and warm and provide a refreshing change from the usual chains and countless expensive coffee shops of today's typical shopping areas. Would that more establishments like this still existed!

Called in to have lunch, and very glad we did. Basic interior, but fast and friendly service that delivered a decent amount of good food Very busy at lunchtime, and we were lucky to get the last table.

Usually we have a really pleasant experience whilst eating breakfast. Today however I was horrified as to the basic hygiene standards. One particular member of staff was in the kitchen without her hat and was running her hands through her hair before preparing something. Our particular waitress seemed to be unable to understand basic hygiene standards,with her hand down her blouse scratching then wiping her nose ready to join the other girls in a group, chatting and drinking from bottles. As I mentioned earlier, we really enjoy the breakfasts, but I do think that this particular girl needs to be retrained.

Been going here for years but it's definitely been going downhill. Staff are about 12 and highly uninterested as you would expect, they just stand around staring at the customers. Considering it's a greasy spoon you better suck it in as there is not much room. The food is ok ish portion was a little small for the price. My wife had a plate of chips I had about 10 and we ordered the same thing. I would not usually bother with a review of a cafe but I'm at work and rather bored.

Always good food and a decent mug of tea I have been going to this cafe for years and never a bad meal.

Popped in here for breakfast recently ,good reasonably priced meal .Looses points as there was no Cappuccino available .Please be aware there is no card payment facility here ! Luckily I had some notes on me !

Went here for breakfast this morning. Both my friend and I wanted a vegetarian breakfast but not exactly what was on the menu, it was no problem to change to other things. I had bubble and squeak instead of hash browns my friend had an extra egg and mushrooms instead of beans and tomato. When it arrived it was lovely and hot and just what we asked for. The waitress who took our order and the young lady on the till could not have been better. We didn't feel rushed at any time and nothing was too much trouble.

Lovely staff, not too busy so food came quickly and was not too expensive either, we had breakfast 1

Dropped the car off at garage and went for breakfast. Had the B4 big breakfast which was nearly too much for me. I enjoy my visits here, the staff are efficient and friendly and the food is served hot and tasty - no grease. Very nicely priced as well.

Una levadura escasez nulas mi experiencia tengo que admitir, tostadas y mermelada? ¡Puaj! Un buen lugar para una comida decente, si estás aburrido de hamburguesas y paninis y puede soslayar la scooters movilidad y sillas de ruedas.

En vez de apoyar una empresa multinacional como McDonalds o Burger King que estarías mucho mejor en Basingstoke aparece en el Sr. Munch.

Great, friendly staff. The breakfast is hot and the portions are plenty full. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will visit again.

Was a bit apprehensive as my last visit was appalling but they have turned themselves around I had the B4 breakfast with fried slice and a mug of splosh it was very good staff are friendly quick service and the smell has gone! On this experience I will try them again

The food was cheap and of a good standard- just what you'd expect. Clean cafe and pleasant staff. Only down side was they didn't have the my first choice of food.

Although Mr Munch does other food - I believe it excels at breakfasts. It is at the outside edge of Festival Place - past the Library , Wimpys etc. It is a cafe in the old style - linoleum and Formica. The menu is exactly as you would expect. Reasonable value for money. Be clear if you want "double" something on toast though as the default position is , unusually , to serve you one slice of toast with whatever you are having. We had beans on toast , tomatoes on toast and one mug of coffee. It came to just over £5. Table service. Clean and quick. Loos downstairs (many ,many stairs so not for the mobility challenged !) The actual seating area is all on one level and perfectly accessible. Happy to highly recommend it.

We decided that we would have breakfast out for a change and tried Mr Munch and had the full English breakfast, cooked to perfection and not at all greasy and plenty of it. Eggs cooked just right and lovely golden toast. Nice helpful staff and nothing was too much trouble.

Nice friendly staff. Good value food. This restaurant / coffee shop has been in Basingstoke for years. I popped in there for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Good coffee and a great Breakfast baguette . Don't know why I have never been there before.

Hi go regularly to Mr Munch when in Basingstoke especially if onl w at a small snack some thing quick & easy. Mr Munch offers the little type of snacks that you would have at home the prices are very reasonable the standard is very good The speed of which the order is taken and is delivered to the table is amazing staff are always attentive place is always clean and tidy. Som days there are hardly any table available but short wait normally pays off. Well done to the owner of this little cafe who has nipped in laying the right end of the market for the town.

Mr Munch is one of those special places that you go to. Simple café food at reasonable prices. You can't beat it.

My wife and I come here from time to time and the food is always fresh cooked, non greasy and value for money.Tea and coffee is always piping hot and the staff are great, even when they are really busyIt can get very busy at weekends but it is normally not too hard to get a seat.

We went in for breakfast just myself and daughter both had the small breakfast with a coffee and a tea . The tea was milky and undrinkable not even asked how we like it or given milk to add oneself. The breakfast was ok bacon & egg cooked well fried slice nice but the sausage was cheap tasting and not nice. And my daughter was a little unimpressed as the toast came pre buttered: The staff were friendly & it seemed nice & clean but don't think we will be returning.

With it's early opening hours, this is a great, classic "greasy spoon" but without the grease.Offering a comprehensive selection of fry ups, rolls, omelettes, burgers and other traditional English breakfast items, this venue is a great way/place to start your day in Basingstoke.Well coked food, served in clean and comfortable surroundings by pleasant, happy to please staff has all contributed to making Mr Munch, one of my regular stops.It's not al la carte with heavy damask table cloths and snooty waiters. It's a basic cafe that serves wholesome food at value for money prices.

I go to Mr munch as they do amazingly good food, such as chicken nuggets... Not from the freezer... Big chunks of chicken that are tender. I love the breakfast as its big enough and I can always get what I want. Very friendly staff who are always trying to help. Very reasonably priced food, especially for the portion size!!! me, my wife and our 2 children love it.

I went with my brother who is blind, and we ordered our food took a while to come and found they had charged £2 for a spoonful of sweetcorn, also the place smelt bad it was a good place once but its really gone downhill.

I went to Mr Munch recently and I had Scampi, Chips and Baked Beans, plus 2 cokes and a toasted tea cake, encompassing the main meal and dessert. If I am being honest, I find the staff in there, for the most part, are a very friendly lot and I have never had an issue with the service - during busy periods, you wait longer, which is fair enough, but I never feel I am over-waiting under the circumstances.When the meal came on this particular occasion, my goodness, it was really nice. I have also had, to be fair, some meals at mr munch that are both hit and miss, but this one was a really nice one - I must stress you never get a bad meal in Mr Munch and get really generous portions, too, plus it is good value. You always and most importantly, always feel you've had a meal when you've been to Mr. Munch and the establishment works ever so hard to meet the needs of the customer. Always worth a visit to Mr Munch - as I mentioned earlier, despite some meals being miss at times, its never to the degree that they are ever bad meals, just sometimes not as scintilating as you know that Mr Munch are capable of producing. To finish, always worth going to Mr Munch as you will get good service, good food and not leave disappointed.

Walked past this place many times but was never hungry, this time breakfast in town was part of the holiday plan, we arrived early and our normal place, a departmental store in the middle of festival place had not opened yet, so we looked around for another, I remembered passing Mr Munch, and thought we would give it a try. A good decision. I Think it kept its style from the 80's The place was clean and the staff friendly. The food was also good, think this would be our first choice next time we travel this way.
