Mr Cod in Reading

The tall guy on blue shirt. No washing hands, no gloves, handles cash with the same hand and serves customers. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. On thing I don’t understand how much can a guy talk on there phones, the guy was middle age not like he was teenagers or early 20. Long time ago I went there, that time it was slim build guy with blue shirt, he ask for cash only, I gave him, he straight away put it in his pocket 😂😂. Honestly speaking food was alright, I think the oil was old, portion size is getting smaller and customer service is bad. I don’t think this place will get any better . I still remember I used to go this place there long time ago and it was good. Stop the flipping headphones and stop talking on phone when customer around. Stop eating on the counter. Next I see these guys I definitely make a complain to council for health and safety…

Everything was good except the food. try them after 2 years still the same. Waste of money.

I asked for a portion of chips takeaway and this is what happened, plastic box melted from chips because they must have run out of papper.

Very large portions but quite greasy.

Ordered online from uber eats .. peri wrap was smelling rotten..all the food was cold and tasted bad .. like it was left from morning and reheated.. avoid this place

Small Portions, expensive and zero customer service

This is nothing but honest opinion. I was sat down having food. Young girl walked in asking to place an order, guy at the till serving her was very rude to her. He told her the total cost of the order but she couldn’t understand him. She kindly ask him to repeat what he said; he said it in an aggrieve manner that made her say sorry. I had to step up as she couldn’t say much. Honestly, very disappointed by him. Avoid dealing with him in particular he was swearing a blue shirt

The food was delicious and the people were helpful and friendly I go each Friday for fish and chips the fish and chips are good value the batter is lovely I enjoy going back each week

Caversham road shop 100x better

Absolutely horrific the way they treat females in this place. Getting called thieving slag because something was wrong with my order. They are getting a massive repatriation on doing this to woman…not men..only woman. Disgusting behaviour especially to be treated like that in England

My husband went there today to buy large chips and small chips,the large chips were smaller than the small portion,a few times this has happened its always when the old bloke is working.very poor

No manners had battered sausage which was cold and old looking and chip was yuck not sure how they got chips wrong. Ended up vomiting it all up

My 3 piece chicken meal was nice and the staff was good. I would say it a nice place to go from time to time. Reasonable prices.

If you are somebody who likes fried fosh and miss the Indian amritsari fish go for their masala fish option.. it is simply mouth-watering....

On a few occasions I have been to this Mr Cod on the Shinfield Road. I asked if the wings were fresh and was told yes. As soon as I walked out the door with my 15 wings and got into the car I discovered that they were lukewarm. I refuse to buy wings from here unless I see that they are made fresh. P.S the best Mr Cod in Reading is in Cemetery Junction. Also returning to this store as a delivery driver for deliveroo I have experienced countless times of rudeness from the staff and caught one of the staff members interfering with my car at closing hours doing something to either my rear wiper or QR code on my back window. When I confronted him for interfering with my car he had the cheek to try and tell me to shut up countless times.

No complaints from my side. Food good and fairly priced

Have never had any issues with fish and chips here. Always a decent sized portion. The masala fish is highly recommended if you're looking for something different to the usual battered fish.

Very expensive now. Probably not worth it. Fish meal is £9.50.... I think there are better places

Just bought 3 fish dinners £28.50. 2 of the fishes were severely undercooked. What a waste of money. No one picks the phone up if you call to complain.

It was alright. The food was average and the chips were ok but I did not like the fact when they were preparing food they were not wearing any gloves and I did not see them wash their hands after preparing the food and going on to the next order. I do not know if I would go back again.

Have to say the food is nice, but sadly the customer service and courtesy is terrible. Latest experience and update... Customer service is the same hopeless attitude. Food quality, preparation and handling by the figures were disgraceful. Best to avoid this place altogether.

Veggie burger very under cooked and both burger and chips extremely oily. Even after soaking excess oil off with a kitchen paper towel.

Really poor customer service. Only went there as it is only halal food place around the area. Would rather travel a bit then go there again.

I was in there just now waiting while a staff member was stood at the till, staring into space. It looks as though he was waiting for something to cook for a takeaway order but didn't greet me or let me know how long the wait would be or anything. Everything i wanted to order was cooked and in the hot cabinet already. Nice food but comes wrapped in those awful non degradable polystyrene boxes; will switch to somewhere else until they start to wrap in paper.

I will never order from these again ..I ordered through just eat and a couple of it items was missing I called several times with no answer ..I then when to the restaurant to get what was missing … the abuse I received was absolutely disgusting i revived racial comments I was called a slag there was about 7 people working and everyone of the ganged up on me I ordered nearly £80 worth of food to be treated with absolute shocking verbal abuse will never spend a penny there again

Unfortunateley, not good,..i use other MR COD, around Reading, and is normally really good, but on this visit to shinfield, food was well below normal standards,.. All food i purchased you could see, was prepared sometime before, chicken was was dry/ tasteless, as you could see and taste, was far from fresh, and chips were cold and chewy.. I like MR COD, my normal go to ,when i can,..it is normally best value and taste in Reading,..but not this shop, when i visited,.. also staff seem to be in a rush, even though shop wasn't full.. * best MR COD shop, for me, Oxford road, by railway bridge, Always 5*****, there. Top food, Polite staff, unlike shinfield,.

Would give zero stars if I could. Website claims they are open until 2:30am (Friday night/Saturday morning) arrived at 10:45pm (Friday night) and they had stopped doing chicken for the night. Ended up going elsewhere.

It’s a funny one is this. I did enjoy the fish and chips, but not by any means perfect. Took the order quickly, but again card machine not working. The fish was a lovely piece of thick white cod, but over cooked and a little dry, having said that, the batter was too thick and a raw inside. The chips are tasty, but suspect that they were under the hot light too long so dry and hard on the outside though soft and fluffy on the inside. The place isn’t cheap but with a little more care on the cooking, it could be really good.

Went here for fish and chips, the clue is in the name MR COD you would think that they do decent fish and chips. £7.50 per portion, the portion sizes are no bigger than a happy meal from McDonald's. The chips taste old and full of fat and the fish has no taste, small and pail. Extremely cheap fish, better off making it yourself at home. The staff are also rude and not helpful.. AVOID THIS S**T HOLE.

I have used this restaurant for years as it's just up the road from me but I'm not happy at all with the customer service. Too often I've made my order and paid only to see others who have ordered AFTER me receive their food and leave. I will only now consider using this Mr Cod if there is no other option.You have lost a loyal customer!!!!!!

When things go well then fine. When things go wrong, then is the measure of a good food provider or delivery. I ordered a delivery via Just Eat in good time with over an hour in advance. At the delivery time nothing came. Status on Just Eat tracking the order kept saying "waiting for update". Live information promised on Just Eat was non existent so absolutely rubbish, (Deliveroo is better on this!). Called Mr Cod nobody picking the phone and then I was just cut off. Called Just Eat waited, waited and waited - spoke to someone then the call cut so got nowhere! It was the lack of updating which was bad, if problems had arisen, being kept informed would have managed expectations and empty stomachs. Neither Just Eat nor Mr Cod did that. The order arrived unacceptably late! It was lukewarm, tasted like it might have been good if hot, but the meal was not successful, so waste of money!

Brilliant! I don't mind admitting that I'm always very careful where I order takeaway food from, so not only do I read recent reviews before trying for myself, but I always place a small initial order, by way of trying them out, that way you can usually guage things like quality of food, taste, portion size, service etc. I have to say that Mr Cod at Shinfield Road Reading gets my vote of confidence! I have now ordered quite a few times from here and have been very happy each and every time. My kids favourite thing is the chicken strips, really tasty and great value for money. My wife is also very happy, because Mr Cod do a lovely vegetarian burger, and my wife is pretty fussy, so for her to give it a thumbs up is a winner! We love the meal options, choose either a drink or a fruit pie, great idea, and the hot pies are lovely! When we have ordered online or via an app, the order has always arrived in a reasonable time and arrives hot, so can't fault the service. If popping in to the branch, the service has always been friendly and prompt. This is a great option for your takeaway food, I am more than happy to recommend Mr Cod at Shinfield Road Reading. Keep up the good work guys 👏👏👏

Entering the shop... I was greeted surprisingly well... being from london were want you want is a greeting this was a great change... the FOOD WAS GREAT well worth the 20 min diversion to get it. Freshly cooked ( not reheated ) chips and chicken that would literally melt in your mouth ..DEFINATLEY GOING BACK FOR MORE EVEN IF ITS A 45 MINS ROUND TRIP #WORTHIT

Yet another great takeaway from this Mr Cod, ordered through Deliveroo. Arrived hot and fresh. Mega fillet burger was perfect this time and the cod was enormous.

Visited for a tea time takeaway, yesterday. First fish and chips since March and lockdown. Good proper reasonably sized portion of chip shop chips. Nice batter on the just cooked haddock. The fish was nice and white, but could have been a bit bigger. Perfect mushy peas but the size of the portion was minute. It wasn't a complicated order but the assistant struggled to get the right fish with the right portion of chips. With a bit of proper management this place could be a real find.

For £7.50 the fish and chips was a small portion, but tasted nice, but I will be hard pushed to go back.

Just collected food on way home from a day out with the kids. Got home and the chips were missing. This is the second time this has happened. Shop now closed very unhappy.

This is our first time since the lockdown to have a Mr Cod and it was very nice and a wonderful change to cooking. Their chicken pieces are very good too.

Absolutely terrible service. After going to this shop half an hour before closing they say everything is finished!!! What a joke if you guys are in a rush to go home why say your open till 11 when you stop serving half an hour before!!! This has happened every time before their official closing hours and seems like the workers jus don’t care and want to leave as soon as they can!!! If you close at 1030 don’t say you close at 11!!!

So we left our house at 10 to make it before closing time we arrived half an hour early for the rude gentleman to say everything is finished! Very rude staff who want to leave well before closing times so your left hungry! Food is small portions and over priced - won’t be going back!
