Deep Blue in Reading

My wife got me cod and chips for my dinner, before I went off for my night shift. However the small portion that was broken in half to fit the big box, gave away that it wasn't cod. The fish flesh was light pink inside and definitely was not cod. Chips went cold very quickly and no flavour. Good job I have a big bag of sweets to take

This is my second time being disappointed by this place. If you go when it's quiet you get overcooked/ recooked chips and batter on the sausage has been in the cabinet too long . I didn't bother complaining which is unlike me . But did it on the previous occasion. The secret is to not go there after lunch period. I have had lovely chips and batter from here. With the same cook. Just recommend don't go when it's quiet. I did look for a head office . Couldn't find one on line.

Went to get some fish and chips for the first time in my life (I'm not British) so was a bit lost as of how to order just a standard fish and chips. The girl that served me didn't seem to be loving working there and probably saw me a bit lost but didn't tell me any offers available or kind of guided me (I know it's not difficult to order fish and chips but there were so many things in there that I was confused as in what to order!). Ordered 2 fish and chips and a couple of drinks and it was almost £29. While waiting for my food, saw that in the autoserve till you get 10% discount (she could have told me but ok), then a guy came in even more lost than me and the other girl in there served him like I would have loved to be served!! She was so nice and friendly and told him literally every single product and offer in there, so the guy took the £7 fish and chip box offer that I wasn't even made aware of!!!! I should have complained about it tbf!! Could have paid £14 plus the drinks rather than £29!!!! Not the best experience!! Food was very standard for what it costed, chips were meh, best thing was my fanta :/

Travelling through the area we spotted this nice fish and chip shop and called in. Hands down the best fish and chips we’ve ever had! Food was hot, tasty and good value for money. The Staff were so friendly and so good with our children. Thank you so much for such a great meal. Would highly recommend 😋

The chips were not cooked properly and the saveloy was cold

This is one of the worst fish and chips shop I been to I got 3 large cods and large chips worst fish ever completely dry from inside and chips were half cooked and the man making the food just looked angry and was even rude to the girl serving at front worst £40 I've spent threw away most of the food in the bin never going again here

When you read reviews thinking people are just being picky don't ignore the negative reviews for this place how hard is it to cook chips right? Well must be pretty hard just like the raw chips I was served. Returned them back for a refund no issues only to hear someone in the back saying there is nothing wrong with them. Must be a southern thing to think raw chips are acceptable

I'm thoroughly disappointed with my recent experience at this fish and chips shop. I decided to give it one last try after previous visits left me with soggy, undercooked chips. Unfortunately, this time was no different. Even though I ate some of it straight away, the chips were still soggy and undercooked. I actually had to finish cooking them in a pan at home just to make them edible. Given this consistent issue, I’m done with this place. From now on, I’ll gladly drive the extra 10 minutes to JFC, where I know I’ll get a quality meal. I won’t be returning here again.

I ordered my fish (haddock) and they gave me a cod and when I returned my order they were so rude, throwing the fish in the bin and acting crazy. Obviously never came back!

The fish was disgusting and the chips were expired. I was treated horribly and when they closed they threw away the chips and the fish.

Bought regular cod and chips when staying at the hotel across. Chips were left overs from the day before, you can understand from the taste. Regular cod was small and extremely greasy

If you struggle with mental health issues avoid coming here. The service reflects the happiness of a funeral, hygiene is lower than a well hung donkey and massively over priced. Useless place.

Massively overpriced for standard fish and chips and portion size is small all prices on the menu end in 9p. Like £4.99, £3.59, £1.09. etc which is annoying. £3.59 for a fish cake that is same as any other chippy. Service is not great either. 3 people on the tills but didn't take order my order for ages and left me waiting. I will never return, much better options nearby.

The food here is awful! Chips have no flavour, they forgot the cheese on my burger, despite charging me for it, the pie was soggy and chips have no flavour! Never again and 3 main meals and a pot of curry sauce cost over £50!!!!

Needed to get a couple of portions of chips to accompany dinner. What I was served was disgusting particularly bearing in mind that Deep Blue charge £1 more for their chips than the award winning New City Fish Bar in nearby Buckland Road. (Before you ask, New City are closed on Sunday). I've attached a photo for info. I was served two bags of chips like this. These so called chips should not have been served up to any customer especially not at £3.49 a pop! Awful.

Placed an order for delivery of2 cod 1 sausage 1 savaloy and 1 large chips. Was delivered minus the chips. Rang shop not interested in any way of putting their error right. Just blamed deliveroo and told me I had to contact them . Well I am sure deliveroo did not pack the order and how would they be able to provide me With the missed chips. After service is non existent. The food was nothing special and just eating fish with no chips is not interesting in any way. DO NOT USE this chip shop they just want your money and will not correct any of their errors they obviously employ muppets whoj cant read snd pack orders correctly. IF YOU WANT PROPER FRIENDLY SERVICE USE NEWCITY FISH BAR in Bucklandroad proper chippie proper service and cheaper prices and much better quality of food. Deep Blue is no longer a good chipie AVOID this place at all costs they dont care about customers they just want your hard earned money.

I had a disheartening experience today here, where I passively encountered racism for the first time in the UK. Three staff members were working behind the counter, and there was one other customer inside. As I waited to place my order, the staff finished their tasks but avoided making eye contact with me. I attempted to get their attention, but it was someone from the kitchen who informed me that I could use the screen on the counter to place my order. Initially, I brushed it off, thinking it was just the shop's procedure. However, I noticed that when other customers arrived, the staff promptly took their orders without hesitation. When my order was finally ready, they handed me the box all covered with oil without putting it in a bag, unlike my previous experiences with delivery and in-store pickups which I never needed to contact with them. Walking in the rain for ten minutes with just a box of fish and chips was hilarious and I couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched by the staff as well during my time in here. I chose this fast food restaurant mainly because they accepted card payments, but after this incident, I won't be returning. Despite hours passing since the incident, I still feel saddened.

Disgusting chips not fresh at all proberly left over from lunch time.... Battered sauage left under hot plate to long it was rock hard... Jumbo sauages dryed up.... 13.76 wasted on disgusting food....

Having recently indulged in a takeaway feast from Deep Blue Fish & Chips in Reading, I can confidently say it was an experience that left me grinning and thoroughly satisfied. Strange understanding of customer service. Older guy is the fryer with a group of young lads....acting like a boys club...not rude or anything just not overly professional. Food was average so jo complaints in that.

Something not right here… I have been to Readings DeepBlue Fish and chips for ages… But havent in the last 4years because i have found DeepBlue in Yately slightly closer to mine.. But even before Yately.. my first Deep Blue experience was this Reading One… The price has always been abit premium in this brand… but the High Quality Product i was given always was worth the Money spent on it… Todays experience, Seems like its been a lingering experience in this shop today.. I spent over £44pounds on food that was very average to Low for a DeepBlue Fish and Chips product… Dont get me wrong… The packaging was superb as usual, Even the TASTE of the food was superb as the DeepBlue has that Taste of fish and chips in their brand… But the COOKING quality and standards… Shocking… not good…. Chips were luke warm and Stale to bite into.. Please dont say it was left over ReFried Chips… And everything was luke warm to cold when i opened to eat them..: And i didnt know the Large haddock now comes in Skinless… I always love deepBlue Haddocks because they have the most amazing skin On them… Overall very dissapointed on todays visit… Please have a look at the staff training please, Such a wonderful backing of product and tasting ingredients and packaging that the DeepBlue Brand has provided for their staff to work with… How can it be destroyed on the frontLine of cooking and serving it… Guys please have a look seriously at the staffing in there… They have potentials if they are trained properley to cook and look out for flaws such soggy stale chips and serve it piping Hot.. I was the Only Customer they were serving earlier on… No one i saw infront of me, Or behind me… And this was my results… very poor.. £44pounds spent on food not the highest Quality that i know of a DeepBlues Fish and chips brand to be… With this review i have uploaded my receipt from todays visit, Please sort it out… I dont want no one to loose their jobs in this hard times economy… But at the same time i dont want to get ripped off from your Standards and Quality… That i am willing to pay.. All it requires is physical OnSite staff training… every Six or nine months… Non of that ONLINE TRAINING B.S And monitor their progress through sales and customer reviews… Cheeers

Been using this shop for years. It’s recently started going down hill. Ordered a large portion of chips they were cold, hard and over half were black and discoloured. Chucked the portion away and got chips from another shop

Thought I would give this place another go to see if it had improved from service to quality. In future will be sticking to the Buckland Road fish shop who are very friendly and there quality Is spot on. Deep blue chip very dry and a funny taste it is like they are using old oil. The battered sausage was tasteless and batter soggy. A real disappointment. There must be a customer service course the manager and staff can go on.

We have started coming here for the gluten free fish and chips. We have kept coming because all the food is delicious and prices are reasonable too. Highly recommended!

Stood in the doorway for more than 5 minutes, with no customers in front of me. Staff behind the counter didn't acknowledge me & were trying to get orders out for delivery. 3 Staff members were far too busy doing delivery orders, for customers who actually were at the counter being ignored. Fast food it was not. So I left. Won't be going back. I thought it had been a few months since my bad review and I'd give them a 2nd chance. But I was wrong. Chips we're terrible. Next time I'll drive 10 mins down the road for much better food and much less money too. Half the chips were bruised and nasty. See photo of the rejected and thrown away food!

The lady (having just been shouted at by the rude angry man) then called me forward and passed us our order. We drove home and unwrapped the order to find it was, in fact, not our order. I was going to keep it, but the received order was probably half the price. So we drove back to the shop and I spoke to the younger, polite male server and explained I had been given the wrong order. I was then rudely interrupted by the angry, rude man in the back. Who proceedee to shout "well you took the wrong order" to which I replied saying it was the order I was given after making the order. He was under the impression the server had shouted out what was in the order and I had then taken the wrong one, which didn't happen. He then proceeded to shout at me for taking the wrong order, whilst the polite, younger lad gave me my correct order. The food was actually alright, despite the extortionate price. I am not sure how this company is still in business. In theory they specialise in fish and chips. I have been in Reading three days a week for the last 10 weeks. Every time I try and buy any food from here there is someone in the front of house team having an issue, the manager is I presume consumed with interacting with the University of iPhone as he ignores all the customers based on my past experience and tonight I walked in at 8.40pm (they close at 9pm) to be told they had stopped cooking and I could have a sausage as that was already cooked and appeared to be festering under a lamp. I am not sure how much time it takes to cook a pie or a piece of cod but probably not 20 minutes and I am glad that all of the staff can get to go home and clean up rather than serve the customers and I won't be troubling you any more for some food orders. Why would you bother trying to actually serve your customers when you can make sure you are finished early. What a joke. 9 weeks ago I actually had a nice piece of Cod from this company but they clearly don't give a sxxt about their customers so I will go elsewhere. What a shame. if you are charging £18 for cod and chips it might be helpful if your staff gave a flying fxxh which they clearly don't. I won't be buying anything from you again. What a shame.

The delivery driver did not speak or understand English so I was on the phone with him for at least 20 minutes so the food was cold and had to heat it up in the microwave.

Very small amount of fish in a lot of batter. Had slightly bitter/burnt test.

Exceptionally Bad No food on display other than fish. I ordered two pies and a burger. The pies were crust pastry. I can’t believe I didn’t say anything at the time. But the cook microwaved the pies ! They were soft and anaemic. The chips were cold. I had to reheat the chips I. The oven and recook the pies. If I had wanted to cook after a long day out I wouldn’t have gone to chip shop. £16 for inedible food. The burger was also microwaved and not cooked as one would expect and again the chips were stone cold. Probably left over from the lunch time shift. I will never be returning. This is my second bad review. No intention on spending my money on food you cannot eat

Ok so my honest opinion is that the guy behind cooking should not have been making a personal call but that's just me The chips were OK but tasted as if they had been re cooked as 90% of the chips were thrown out the award winning fish was ok but at early £10 alone needed to be more but 10 out of 10 on the curry sauce its was lush

Portion sizes for a large chips is a joke. Deep Blue has really dropped its standards. Considering I was a regular. I won't be going back!

Great quality fish and chips. They serve good sized fish and a nice portion of chips. The menu is wide and varied. The only down side is that I'd ordered 2 cod and 2 haddock. The haddock needed to be cooked fresh and the cod were already cooked and under the heater (not sure how long for). The difference in texture and taste was very noticeable from the pre-cooked fish to the one cooked fresh. I feel if they'd cooked the cod fresh as well, this would have been a perfect fish and chips take away. I'd have been happy to wait a few extra mins for it to be freshly cooked. Overall, there are a lot worse fish and chips places so, this still ranks high in my books.

Really unhappy and what a waste of money ! I wrote in delivery note NO tomatoes as allergic !!!! Clearly not bothered to read so that has had to go into the bin ! I came to Deep Blue after work yesterday and i was pleasantly greeted by Sophie, who offered me amazing advice on selecting which fish size would suit my elderly mother the most. A very helpful, kind and smiley young lady! Would definitely recommend!

Had dinner here the other night and it was amazing, was served by Katie and Sophie 10/10 kind and friendly.

Very poor quality food unfortunately I was working and could not return my food I had fish and chips fish was small and I asked for a large very dry with soggy batter chips ok and curry sauce ok certainly would not get any food from there again

Visited today 22/07/23, have always enjoyed the food, however today was very disappointed, asked for the deal for £6.99 (Fish & Chips) plus a Battered sausage. Came to £16.17. ( was ask what size fish - said large) never gave it a thought because was talking to local Police in the shop. Once we got home the Chips were soggy, tasteless, fish was dry & the battered sausage looked like it had been cooked several times over. (plus cold) Won't be going back there in a hurry. 😟🤢

We came from a Royal Berks Hospital decided on a quick meal bought 1 large fish and chips and reg fish and chips and it was rubbish

Have had lots of large cod from them but what turned up tonight was certainly not large it was more like half a large cod , also they should take frickles off the menu, ordered twice now and it was just a greasy mess.

I've been here so many times over the last few years and have absolutely loved the food, but actually the last couple of visits have been really disappointing to the point where I've been surprised. At the moment, the quality of the food isn't matching the prices in the way that it used to fairly recently. PLEASE PLEASE bring back the good old days! Twice beeped at at the roundabout trying to pull into this place. The cost of our meal was nearly £50 - it’s like London prices! We’re travelling back from St Ives in Cornwall - we weren’t hit with such a cost for fish and chips there, either.

Charged £18 for large Haddock and chips, the fish was large but completely tasteless and it definitely wasn't Haddock, I should have eaten the box it came in it would have had more flavour. No wonder the shop was empty. Will not be going back.

Always drove here for fish and chips despite driving past others, however not again called in Monday 6ish ordered got them home and so disappointed chips were really bad looked like either yesterday's or lunchtime warmed up wish i had taken a photo fish was good but not worth the trip or cost for just the fish local chippy it will be in the future
