Chips are awful. This is not the first I have received dreadful chips and also when you consider a medium sized oration is £3.99 this is very poor.

Came in to get a Bubble Tea with my daughter. The service was absolutely horrendous! No welcome, no please, no thank you. Hardly spoken to at all. And, the server made me feel very uncomfortable (looking at my chest - I had a t-shirt on, so wasn’t even revealing anything!!). Also, there were no menus up anywhere. We won’t be back!! No wonder you hardly ever have any customers!

Tried bubble tea was OK for me, not best. Next time may be I will try others...

Ordered a veggie burger chips and drink meal for myself and chicken burger for mother, it took not too long to make but didn't know cucumber in it but the chips were weird tasting. Only went because late arriving to Reading from the Flixbus coach.

I was a regular buyer of bubble tea from this shop, but not anymore. I was cheated yesterday with outdated old soggy tapioca balls as toppings while I requested for other flavours of pearl ball. It was horrible bubble tea I ever had. He lied to me that other flavours are unavailable as I could clearly see those toppings.

I think mr chips 🍟 has gone down hill the chips have eyes in them the floors and tables are not very clean and allso they are very over priced.

Lovely staff and delicious food. I had cos and chips , food was hot and didn't have to wait long.

I can’t complain about the quality which is outstanding but I didn’t receive the correct order due to the the female taking the order who was visibly stressed. I paid for my order despite questioning it. I was also made to feel uncomfortable with male patrons residing but not staff but in some way dictating to the female staff. This has now happened several times. Something is very wrong in the Oxford Road mr chips!

Today I went there for kebab. The customer service was lame and when I asked for more sauce (mayo) I have received only one little mayo and the kebab was already poor in taste and sauce. The fries were kept outside in a bucket out of any chiller or any fridge. The food taste was yucky.

I visited here with a my family and we will definitely be returning again. Portion sizes were massive for the price we paid and the staff were very friendly. The lady was amazing behavior and very coperative and friendly Highly recommended We will be coming back again!

Absolutely poor customer service! Visited today with my family and asked the staff to clean the tables as they were visibly dirty and a staff member reluctantly came across the table inspected it and refused. I mean how hard is general cleanliness? Especially after someone has been previously sitting there. Extremely unhygienic and unfriendly female staff, unfortunately after this I will not be returning. It does not cost nothing to provide good customer service.

Hi visited this place today for the first time. I seen a poster on the outside of a meal deal . It had fish chips mushy peas and a drink . I went inside couldn’t remember the deal . Inside the girl working charged me £9.20 . When I went back out side the deal was £7 . Dishonest staff . Robbing people . Very small portions for the money .

Beat chips in Reading. I think out of 5 Ive only had 1 not so great portion of chips which i think wasn't cooked in fresh oil.. Great sizes of fish. Really recommend

Had the best and freshly cooked fish, chips and most of all, bubble tea that keeps taking us back to the shop. The customer service is just amazing, specially the staff namely Jass, Karan, and Prabh gave us the most warm welcome and service. Loved the fact that all the staff was females indicating women empowerment. Kudos to the team

New staff & it shows, under cooked chips, not changed the oil since I don't know when, selling small fish as a large & over salting everything, tasted yuk.

Has Mr Chips changed hands? We bought chips today that were unedible! Either it was very old oil, reheated chips or manky potatos!!

For me, there are three levels of fish & chips: excellent; standard; and rubbish. It's as simple as that because it's a simple dish; so in my opinion a back-street chippie is just as capable of doing it superbly as is Gordon Ramsay. The fish & chips from Mr Chips, for me, were standard--in other words, OK but nothing exceptional, in common with most fish and chips in the country. To give Mr Chips credit, they got a great deal right. They were open mid-afternoon, for example, which is when I wanted my takeaway that day--so they aren't that type of chippie whose obscure opening times have to be consulted on a chart like the tides. They cooked my fish while I waited--so they aren't that type of chippie which keeps luke-warm battered fish lying about for ages on a glass shelf picking up bacteria. They have enough staff on to keep waiting times short. Mr Chips is also terrific value--£7.50 for a medium fish & chips, which was actually a generous portion, including a piece of fish I'd by any definition call large. (Goodness knows how immense their large fish & chips would be, but I suspect it would feed two.) I took my boxed order to my hotel, where I ate it still nicely hot. As is often the case, there was a mismatch between the fish and the chips, the fish being just fried and the chips older. Neither fish nor chips were of the highest quality, but they were decent enough. I don't know if the chips were from frozen, but clearly they'd hardened up slightly since first entering the fryer. As for the fish, it was real cod but not prime. Living by the seaside and having caught cod myself, I think of the best fresh cod as brilliant white and composed of medallion-like layers of flesh which slide easily off each other when moved by knife and fork. Cod that's been frozen has a more matted texture, broken into many tiny fibres where molecules denature and reform during the freezing process. Something similar happens round the edges and surfaces of cod that's lost its freshness, when the flesh becomes more solid and less bright. I'm not sure whether Mr Chips' cod had been frozen or just wasn't that fresh. The outer flesh, next to the batter, had become thready and bitty, as in a fishcake. The inner flesh of the fish still had its medallion-like shelves, but they didn't slide off one another. Instead they were glued together somewhat, and looking slightly dulled. The flavour for me wasn't that of fresh cod--which has a subtly delicate taste--and instead had a slight tang to it. Nevertheless, it was still very edible, and I ate it all. The batter itself was innocuous and bland, but neither too thin nor overdone.

Since the renovation I tried the sausage and chips. It's not like it used to be and I was a regular. I think cheaper versions are being used so can definitely taste the difference.

Went in today and was greeted by a nice chap While my food was being cooked fresh found out after chatting he was from Romania. And im half polish. And talking about the crazy weather. Large portions and the most important thing was 100% customer service. Thank you sir and a meal delivered with a smile 😃 😊 Your an asset to the place thanks for making someone's day. Nice decor, slightly messy and could have more seating. Very bright and looks a lot better since the renovation. However the food itself it’s hard to tell… chips felt like some were fresh and others thrown on from last batch. The piece of cod was as much as I can expect, however battered very nicely. And that was fresh. I would come back and try a different fish.

The fish and chips are amazing and the curry sauce is great but the bubble tea on top of the meal is a bonus honestly the best food and drink place I’ve been to in a long time

Tried the first time. Best thing is the portion size of the large COD fish however was very oily. The battered chicken sausage was awesome. Didn't try thr bubble tea, maybe next time

Very tasty, the portion was amazing, filled me up and still saved some for later 😅. Staff was amazing, never seen someone being so kind and respectfull, i do recommend it, you should try their fish and chips, best i ever had. Let s not forget about their burgers, i wish i can find them anywhere, but at least there is a place where i can make myself happy.

Very hot and tasty chips and a well cooked sausage. They asked if I wanted salt and vinegar and they also provide free ketchup and mayonnaise. There was quite a long wait as they has run out of chips and not all staff listened as they were having private conversations. There was a lot of drilling when I was there, but the place is quite new. Will try them again. They are a little pricey.

Great food and exceptional service - staff are extremely friendly and considerate and always go the extra mile to make sure you get what you need. I come in all the time and they really connect to their customers. Highly recommend

Great tasting fish and chips ticks all the boxs

This place was recommended and it didn't disapoint. The fab welcome, the service friendliness. As it was not busy it was cooked to order and took 6 minutes. Once home I realised why it was recommended so passionately. The taste of the fish and chips was fabulous not to mention the mushy peas ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I mention that it was my 1st time and they offer me a Coke... Who does that anymore? Thank you very much. The staff are really friendly, great size portions - I have a big appetite but even I struggled with my meal! - making it good value for money. Chips weren't too greasy and nice and fluffy, the way they are supposed to be, in my opinion. The only thing I didn't try was the bubble tea. Definitely will be coming back.

Just had fish and chips from this place. Worst fish and chips for years. Batter 100% soggy and inedible, not a crisp bite anywhere. Disgusting meal.

I complained about my food. Then found flem/spit in my food that they replaced. Definitely this shop, ordered the same thing all the time after work. Until that night finding flem, clear as day bubbly, goey. Could of only been flem!

The fish and chips my wife had was fine but my word the so called sea food basket was horrible, the only taste it had was of stale chip shop oil. At over £5 it was a rip off as well. Please avoid this menu, (it’s the one nearest the window.) never again!

UNCOOKED FISH - AVOID Don't waste your time with this place as i have just got home looking forward to tucking into my haddock and chips.. realised that the fish was completely uncooked, which makes no sense as i had gone in asked the guy how long would haddock and chips take.. he said 10 mins which is normal so ordered and paid and thought ill quickly pop into tescos to pick up some milk. Having got back to the shop after 15 mins as tescos had a long que, to pick up my food, realised it was not ready and waited another 5 mins before asking the guy how long it would take who said a min or 2. Got home to realise the fish was not cooked at all.. rang up to find out why, which he had no explanation for and when i asked him i would like my money back, he said i would need to fill out a form for the manager to see. I asked him that i was not planning to come back to town and if he could email it to me, he said there was no way, i asked when his manager was in and he did not want to disclose his managers name or when he would next be in and then hang up. I strongley recommend anyone wanting a decent fish and chips to avoid this place and go to New City Fish and chips on Buckland road.

Very bad! It’s dirty in the restaurant, they put the fork and knife on the dirty table without putting a napkin, when they asked for several napkins they gave only 2 for 2 people, the service is low !! I do not recommend it !!

An end-to-end failure of chip shop disservice. On the 21st of June 2019 a colleague and I visited ‘Mr Chips’ and found ourselves less-than-whelmed. The owners must understand that the name of their shop is a promise: a promise of the best chips in town. Instead we were met (after a 45[!] minute wait) with the soggiest, sorriest, dank-assiest packet of deep brown chips, sickeningly sweet from starch. The shop itself was slick and stinking from old fryer oil, which took a big dump on our otherwise great night. I’m sorry if you’ve been here already. I’m thinking of starting a survivors group hmu if interested x

Very unhygienic. Not clean and certainly not a place to get bubble tea even though they sell it. I was nauseous after drinking it. And I love bubble tea so it was not nice to drink that. It also had bits of foamy stuff forming at the top of the cup which was unusual. Never going again

really dissapointed with the service and the portions, charging 3.50 for 5 tiny ends of fish, when its 1.30 more for cod and i ask if i can remedy my order and would pay the extra 1.30, not a ridiculous request, money in their pocket, and this rude guy behind the counter says ""its made to order i cant serve this to another customer, we cant do that"" so refusing to amend the order, and weve already paid. so i demand a full refund which they try and refuse to give me which i remind them is against the law. which he claims it isnt. will never be eating here again and will deter any friends of mine or people on the street to avoid any place that employ's shady tactics to take as much of your money as possible and treat you like garbage.

Things are really going wrong at Mr chips, why? It's the chaos of all the online ordering beside regular orders. Unbelievable wait in the shop and then received over cooked fish, Mr chips save your reputation and work on better managing flow of orders in your shop. It was chaos the night we were in. The cook worked hard to keep the packers going correctly with orders and they swapped our fish. Good luck

Hi, Really really really disappointed with Mr Chips Customers Service and Staff, We order Gluten free Cod and Haddock with cheese chips @7:33 pm on15th November 2019, staff informed me it will take Half hour to cook we agreed to wait for fish and I requested to give us cheese chips first and after 25mins and requesting for 4 times to atleast we received ONLY cheese chips and they informed it will take another 8 mins for fish which we were ok with it again and listen to staff it was @8:05. Now we were eating out chips and didn't realise it's @8:20 so we ask for fish again and we were told sorry it will take another 15 mins 😠😠 I was really upset and I ask I am done with you guys I have never been to place like this with so much unprofessional behaviour. Can I please get my money back and with no courtesy they said yes please take a your money back and wasted our 1hr Please don't go there they are so unprofessional staff ...

One star is too good - steer clear! Don't waste your money. Don't bother trying to order food from here - I've tried twice - separate orders on different days/weeks. Both times they've failed to deliver. No contact to explain problems. No service what-so-ever. I won't bother again.

I don’t like the quality of the bubble tea (always makes me feel sick) and the place doesn’t look very clean.

This is the best fish and chips in town but they also make a lovely burger and the seafood basket is gorgeous! Delicious bubble tea and super friendly service. There's some waiting at meal times because it's busy and food is fresh, so really well worth waiting for, also they will let you know when this is the case and how long it will be, so you can make a choice ahead.

the bubble tea is amazing but wish prices were a bit lower (especially compared to mooboo which is less than a minute away, cheaper, more variety, and offer student discount!) I used to come here all the time but not so much now since mooboo opened as i can go there more often for a lower price. the chips are also lovely, and there is a small seating area :)

The staff were lovely, helpful and clear. The food was excellent! I normally struggle with the grease in chip shops. My fish here however was battered fresh and still managed to not be at all greasy, and was hot, fluffy, full of flavour and everything I wanted it to be. Chips were spot on two. This place definitely deserves the title best chippy in Reading!

Most importantly, the food was good! If you're wanting a quick chippie in the evening, you can't go wrong. Although they do take a rather long time to get everything cooked (they say it's because it's fresh but I honestly don't 100% believe that) and the staff are friendly enough. The place could do with some redecorating though. It looks soo much older than it actually is.

Visited today but food took a long time. Chips were very nice but 25 minute wait for a small chips is far to long. It was not even busy. Pity really. I was told 5 minutes wait.
