Mr Cod in Reading

Purchased rice and chicken for my 7 year old son - After eating a few spoons he started vomiting. When I smelt the rice and realised they had gone off and when I called the shop to complain the manager Anwar started being rude and admitted the rice was off and should have been put in the bin. I have been using Mr Cod for years but no more....Poor food and services but the attitude of the management is far worse.

Mr Cod, used to be the finest chip shop in South Reading, It's unfortunately now certainly one to avoid. Overcooked rubbery fish, and dried up, what appeared to be yesterdays, chips. Even the battered sausage was full of gristle. I guess the place has changed owners since we last visited Reading. Will probably hit the Oxford Rd for a Doner next time we're in town.

Do not order from here! Food missing and the food that did arrived was cold and tasteless. I called the restaurant after placing my order on Uber eats with a request for s&v on both chips and this was not done. After receiving a bad, cold and incomplete order I then phoned the restaurant and the member of staff was arrogant and rude and advised I place another order on Uber eats for cheap and they will add the missing items from my first order to it. I stupidly agreed and low and behold the second order came without the missing items AGAIN! When I phoned back the man was again rude and basically said nothing he can do about it. Absolute disgrace! Waste of time, money and calories!

Ordered today chips hard and chicken dry not nice. The food tasted like it had been cooked hours ago .

Ordered food at 8.55 still hadn’t arrived at 9.55 called them to be told I never ordered give them the reference number i had was told they would call me back and didn’t bother tried calling them back several times haven’t answered 😡😡

As like other review, we will never order from them again. Mr Cod, Whitley Street. Others seem ok. Order was excepted at 8.16pm, by 10pm still no food. Called no one answered. If you cant keep up with order and delivery, then change your times as you said one hour. When it arrived after 2 hours First driver said it was nothing to do with him but straight away you could feel food was cold. Gets worse. All chicken burgers with mayo. One daughter has egg allergy , so asked for hers plain. She was very upset and couldn't eat burger. But my meal after paying £29.00 and £3.00 delivery wasn't even with the order. Cod and Chips. No apple pie as well. Called shopped and I will say the man I first spoke to was very polite , said sorry and he understood why I was angry . Heard him ask his manager what to do. The nice man said my manager will call you back. No call of course. I have since sent email and so on but nothing. Really they stole my money as i didn't get what I paid for. Food that we did get was cold and tasted horrible. Keep away. If I ever have a Mr COD again , I will go to Cemetery Junction. Much better. Only problem is they don't deliver which is a shame.

Friendly staff and quick service. The veggie burger and chips with mushy peas was excellent and kindly let me eat in.

Waited 1hr 30 mins for food to be delivered. Absolute joke. Food was cold and soggy when I received it. No apology about the delay. Avoid this place at all costs!!

Food is always fresh, good price. Meals can be customised to what you want. Staff always appear friendly about this.

Hair in burger cold food rude staff would not recommend eating here I will never use again disgusting staff are so rude and put phone down on you

Regular to this shop. Its the best fish and chips in the area. Prices is decent. Food is amazing and fresh. They also serve peri peri menu freshly prepared on the grill. Staff is very friendly overall we had a very good experience. However, i still think they can have better sitting arrangement for customer

For a mere £4.15 I had the genuine pleasure of eating a stunning strip burger meal. Let’s talk chips. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside - receptive to the salt and vinegar - both beautifully absorbed into the chips. The burger - unreal. We’re talking value for money here chaps - 5 wings squeezed into the burger - FIVE. A soft, seeded bun, a perfect ratio of mayonnaise, crunchy lettuce and chicken - all in generous supply. Charming interior decor. Great service from the happy chappies behind the till. 5 out of 5 would recommend.

Placed an order for delivery , paid by card over the phone 2 hours later no food. Don’t answer calls, when eventually we did get talking to them they said it had already left . No explanation no apology no refund. Do not give your money to these fraudsters ! I’ll be reporting them for theft

Thought we would give this place another try after a terrible meal last year well wish we hadn’t only two meals out of seven were right the burger that should have been plain were smothered in mayo and salad and the chicken was so chewy it couldn’t even be eaten we couldn’t even bebothered to complain as they make out they can’t hear you I would rather starve then order from here again

Tenía mis hijos para el fin de semana, era hora de cenar. Otro establecimiento me había decepcionado y no cumplió. ¡Tuve que llevar a los niños algo de comida para cenar! ¡Así que llamé al Sr. Cod, que salió triunfador! Me pusieron directamente en su lista de entrega prioritaria, y la comida era deliciosa y sabrosa, y entregada con anticipación. ¡Brillante!

Disgusting will never order from them again couldn't have made it more clear that we wanted the chicken burger plain but when the food turned up all of the boxes were squashed like they had been sat on and the plain burger had so much mayonnaise in it that it had all soaked into the bun disgusting

I am not going to lie the food was really amazing after a few drinks, unfortunately i didnt get all of my orders. i ordered food for me and three of my friends but unfortunately one of my friends food was not in the bag i left from the store. thinking back the staff did give me a strange look when they said all the food was there. so beware when ordering make sure all the product you ordered is there before you leave the shop

Me and my girlfriend were feeling quite ill after eating the dirty food they have served to us, I have eaten in other Mr Cods , and quite frankly this Whitley st. place does not deserve to be called Mr Cod, consistently bad quality and bad service.

Many people recommend this place, but I wasn't surprise. It's not bad, if you want to eat well and pay less it's a good place.

In terms of service, it depends upon who serves you at this fast-food restaurant. If you get the franchise owner (big fella), he doesn't possess the greatest social skills and it is all about the profit margins - the portions are smaller and he is reluctant to accept any minor tweaks to the set menus (swapping one type of sauce for another, for example). Having said this, the other people who have served me are both friendly and accommodating - they once forgot a bit of my order and gave me a freebie apple pie to apologise. The food can be great, the chips can be perfectly cook and the chicken CAN BE moist; this is the case most of the time. However, sometimes the chips can be under-done and the chicken can be a little dry, but on the whole this is a decent place to grab some quick grub. Delivery also tends to be very slow during peak periods. Top tip: Several of the meal deals here are cheaper (or include more) than the Mr Code on Shinfield Road. For instance, the smallest family meal deal is 50p less at this Mr Code and includes additional chicken wings!

Good place to find a nice and large fish and chips, they have a lot of different menu but for me the fish and chips is the better dish . I tried the Masala Fish and chips they use to had chilli at the crust of the fish, delicious !

I usually have the number 8 meal, which is a large (and I mean large, as in they double up the chicken and bun into a super-chicken-bun-thing) double chicken burger; this is accompanied by plenty of chips and all for under a fiver, including a drink. If you ask nicely, they'll even add a slice of cheese at no extra charge! I never understand reviewers who moan on here about "receiving too much food", how is that a bad thing? I mean, really? C'mon. So if you (for some reason) hate receiving so much food that you are satisfied, and then some, definitely DON'T go to Mr. Cod. Oh, and the staff are pretty friendly too; not 'wow friendly' but smile and will greet you at least.

My search continues. Mr. Cod is a pedestrian fried take away. The “traditional” fish (cod) and chips (French fries) were served hot and good, but lacked originality. The restaurant was certainly convenient and fast. He had to fry up my chips for me, and I waited. There was almost too much food for one person to each. I had my meal as I walked along the Thames. It was very relaxing and I shared my chips with some of Her Majesties Swan’s.
