Excellent customer service and food is amazing,, my favourite fastfood takeaway in newbury.

I would give the food zero stars if I could. Chips were hard, crunchy and tasted old and stale. Suspect they had been cooked, left sitting around and then fried again. Fish had a weird taste and the "batter" was just wet and greasy. Looking at other reviews it appears others have had a similar experience. I hate wasting food, but most of this sadly ended up in the bin. Would urge people to go elsewhere to avoid disappointment.

We went in earlyish and waited ages, The service was terrible, I don't like leaving reviews like this but I speak as I find, I would imagine all these nice reviews are from employees or friends of I WONT EAT HERE AGAIN 😥

Haddock was taste less , chicken burger batter was greasy , chicken was chewy & smothered in mayo . Mozzarella sticks tasteless

Worst small family meal we ever had oily soggy chicken and hot wings tasted like nothing so went straight into the bin. Never again.👎

The fish was amazing a nice thick piece of cod. Often nowadays it's white fish but this was cod. The service was good they double wrapped it for a long journey.

We ordered scampi and chips this evening and the scampi was the worst ever; large blobs of batter with very little scampi inside. Avoid.

Great Masala Fish meal. Really nice chips. Lovely freshly prepared food. Good adition to a Newbury food street. Very helpful staff. All round good experience. Highly recommended.

Used the delivery service. Worst Fish and Chips we’ve ever had. Uncooked thick batter, cold chips, chewy cold cod. Had to chase up late delivery. Recommendation? AVOID this place altogether food is of a very poor quality. There are far better places in Newbury.

The sauce is coming out of the worker’s wages it seems, begrudging amounts. Asked whether I wanted salt and vinegar on the chips but ignored that anyways and put nothing on the them. It took 25 mins and I was the only customer in there and had to remind him to add a third of the order to the bag when he said it was ready.

The food is lovely had fish chips today and also got kids 1/2 burger and chips and drinks so much better then the other chip shop we have used the shop very clean and the staff are very lovely people

Popped in with 1st Newbury Kimber scouts for our "chip walk" and they couldn't have been more accommodating! Seated 12 children and 3 leaders and were super friendly! Obviously I can't reveal the winner if "best chios in Newbury" here, but extra points were awarded for hospitality!

Awsome food and even better service, they young men serving are very friendly and give a warm welcome. The chips were lovely and the chicken fillet sandwich was epic. Will definitely be back here :)

I am so disappointed I was actually so happy we got to have a halal fast food restaurant next to us. This is the third time we make an order and the guy never does the food and says I forgot, and he was even rude in the way he was speaking. Unfortunately, this restaurant lost us as customers

A Fish and Chip shop where it took nearly 20 mins to get Fish and Chips. Pro - The chips were spot on, crispy and fluffy on the inside. Con - The Fish was nice but the batter did not complement the Fish. Very dry, bland, anemic and you can tell it's from a freezer Worth the price? The chips - Yes The fish - Yes but not with the current batter. Overall, I wouldn't order fish and chips again. Chips by themselves, I would order.

Popped in for diner before going to the cinema. Super fast and friendly service! Chips were yummy and pipping hot. Masala fish was sooooo delicious! Will be back.

Went in to Mr Cod today for Lunch, and have to say its one of the best customer service experience ive got in a long time. Menu boosted a wide selection of fish options and fish was incredibly fresh with a golden and crispy batter that added the perfect amount of crunch. The chips were thick-cut, cooked to a delightful crisp on the outside while remaining fluffy on the inside. Loved the friendliness of staff, and quality of food. Will visit again & again.

After reading some of these reviews I was alittle unsure weather to try the new Mr cods.. However I'm glad I did, the chips were soft fresh and very tasty, the cod was a generous size and the batter was light an tasty not oily or greasy, My children had the sausage and chicken nuggets which they really enjoyed.. Well done keep up the good work and we will definitely return, I think its definitely worth a try and make up your own mind I'm glad we didn't listen to negative reviews.

Don’t waste your time. Just got dinner home after a long wait and wish I read the reviews beforehand. Not traditional fish and chips. Pie was cold in the middle, I don’t think you can even call the sausage battered and I have never seen so many green chips! Out of a polystyrene box and not paper, this place is all kinds of wrong! Go somewhere else and save yourself an expensive mistake. There is a proper chippy 1 minute walk from this hole. I wish I went with what I know! I should have noticed when I first walked in and the staff seem surprised there was a customer!

Best Masala Fish ever ......... Have tried this in various other Chippies but his was by far the best - lovely combo of spices on top of succulent cod. Cooked to order in 8 minutes.

The chips were reheated/recooked in the fryer so were hard & barely edible (I literally watched the guy put some precooked chips back in the fryer for a few minutes & serve them to me), the cod seemed to be a frozen pre battered fillet which was just heated up in the fryer. It was by far the worst fish & chips I’ve had in a long long time. I could understand a place that has been around a while falling into bad habits, but how can a place that’s just opened be so bad I’m response to the owner, I came in on 30th May at around 6pm

As far as fish and chips go this was pretty awful. We had ours delivered on first impressions looked good came in a box and still hot. When it came to eating the chips were hard and dry as if they were pre cooked or had been sitting for along time. The fish was okay batter good. Will I go back to them again probably not as there are much better fish and chip shops in Newbury.

Where do I start ! Chips pre cooked then dunked making them Hard and Horrible, Chicken only just cooked in fact only one piece of the two bought edible. Spicey Chicken burger not spicy just some weird minty Not hot sauce ! Customer service None Exictent !!! Tried once we will Never return !!!!!!!! Worst food ever I've noticed we are not worth a response! Even though all other reviews are, I wonder why ? Maybe we are not friends of the employees 🤔🤔🤔

I travelled from Yorkshire to come and see my family and was recommended to try out the food at Mr Cods before I head back to sunny Yorkshire. I was blown away with how nice the food tasted and felt I was at home. Food was on point, and the temperature was to perfection. Definitely, would recommend to all my family and friends from north of England to try the food here.. Wish we had Mr Cods up north..
