Would give less than one star if I could. The last time I had chips from this establishment they were incredibly mediocre; but on top of this I’m put off ever going again because of the owner’s vile and bad-natured attitude towards his customers. Avoid at all costs! You won’t regret it.

The establishment is renowned for its exceptional fish and chips. Mr. Robin and his esteemed colleagues consistently demonstrate utmost professionalism and gracious hospitality.

Excellent fish and chips. Open at 5 and got served quickly so the little ones could enjoy delicious fish and chips before their bedtime

Nice traditional fish and chip takeaway and service with a smile. It's not often you find traditional fish and chips of this sort in Rugby. The batter on the fish was lovely. The kids really enjoyed their meal. Unfortunately they kept running in and out the shop setting off the door sensor, but the staff/ owners didn't mind :)

Came for 3 cones of chips, left with 3 cones of chips. Chips were very good, crisp with plenty of salt & vinegar. Quite reasonable price wise.

My husband has had crippling diabetes for 50 year now and when I bought home Chips from Famous Mr. Chips chip shop (Rugby)) and he ate them and it cured his crippling diabetes!!!! Best ghip shop on planet sir thankyouthsnk

Mr chips is amazing. Best fish and chip shop in Rugby. His gluten free batter is lovely. Very generous portion sizes and reasonably priced. We'll done to Robyn and his staff

I ordered Fish&Chips, Chicken & mushroom pie and curry sauce for the first time. I simply loved it. Everything was fresh and tasty. Met the legendary Mr Chips for the first time who was very friendly. The service was really good. The food was packed really well which kept the freshness. This was my first time to have fish packed in a traditional Fish&Chips box :) . Thank you all for a lovely experience.

Mr Chips used to have the best chips in Rugby however last night the chips were terrible. The lamb kebab meat was dried up. We ended up throwing them away. The prices have gone up too. The staff were lovely but we won't be returning there no matter how friendly the staff.

Not just the best in rugby but I think in the whole of midlands….Since moving to the midlands I’ve been disappointed with the quality of chip shops but this one is on par with some of the best chip shops in east London and Kent it’s Bang on!!! 👊👊👊

We have been going to Mr Chips for many years and have always had good service and food. I’m sad to see the unnecessarily nasty reviews he has received.

My poor old nan (who has recently been told that she has under a month left) has walked into mr chips expecting a large cod and chips. Little did I know that the rude owner continued to violently take her shin pads off of her legs and kick us out. Inexcusable. Most definitely would not be coming back and I STRONGLY advise you not to

In all the places I have eaten fish and chips this has to be one of the best, I don’t mean just Rugby, it might be you have longer to wait but the fish is always superb, crispy and taste is great, the other thing here is the portions are ‘overwhelming’ great value. The staff are very friendly and the owner always attentive, we were quietly discussing adding vinegar and that we had none at home, wife doesn’t like , I do, the owner overheard and gave us a small pot of vinegar to take - exceptional service missing these days in our current world. Been coming here since I moved to Rugby 10 years ago. Took a while to find a decent chippy. Can't fault this place fish and chips top class. Fish good quality, way better than most places, and freshly cooked. If you want a good, traditional chippy, this is the place.

I came here as I couldn’t be bothered to cook and someone recommended the place, well the owner looked like he couldn’t be bothered to cook either. It was just a regurgitated looking mess. I’m on about the fish - but the owner also looks like he could have had a wash or at least put some clean clothes on. Honestly I think it was the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had in my life.

Consistent quality and taste, the place provides good quantity at quite a decent price.

Had a fish tonight was rank, would rather eat out my old dinner lady, fish would probs taste better than!!!! I’m sure there was some dog hairs in there too!!!

Having been to 4 fish & chips shops in my 13 months in Rugby, the other 3 were forgotten the moment my tastebuds collided with Robins (wife) undefinable batter, moreish. It’s highly likely you do not know this about me, but I live adjacent to a chippy on Murray RD, yet I cycle up that steep hill and happily wait so I can be rewarded with moreish batter, it’s a dreamers dream ! The chips are ridiculously generous and delicious. Robin surely makes you feel welcome and shop is cozy and intimate. My order is haddock or cod & chips.

Costs 1.2223 times as much as another local, such ad rugby fish bar, Mr chips claims to be at the heart of rugby, yet he charges London prices with African portion sizes. Mr chips? More like Mr fibs

I have to say after living down south for 23years this is the best chippy I've ever had down here! The fish tastes amazing, never greasy. Chips always perfectly cooked. If you're in rugby this is the chippy to eat in- even if you have to drive a bit further it's worth it!! 😍

Superb fish and chips. If you like cod get the king cod. The large chips feeds 2-3. The chicken nuggets were a revelation as they are real chicken breast! Outstanding mushy peas and the curry sauce is phenomenal. Please try Mr Chips but beware because the queue forms before opening and everything is cooked fresh so don’t expect food straight away. So worth it though.

Delicious fresh cooked fish n chips. The batter was very tasty and crisp. Some of the reviews on here don’t make sense; the owner is clearly very proud of his establishment. Personally I would rather wait for 10 mins for freshly cooked fish, rather than eat something soggy that was cooked hours ago. Staff were very pleasant; on arrival the owner could see I was struggling to read the menu so he told me the key items and prices. The lemon and tartar sauce are a nice touch. Will return.

Been using Mr Chips since moving to Rugby 4 years ago, tried a few around the town but this is our go to. Staff have always been pleasant and friendly. My wife is very particular about food and what establishments we eat from and she’s always happy to eat from here. Our food has always been of good quality the fish is cooked to order for us and lovely. Its disappointing that Tripadvisor is clearly used by some to post outrageously fictional reviews across all sectors whether it be the catering industry or hotels etc etc. Will be visiting again soon .

Had fish and chips there after a friend recommended the place. The batter was exceptionally good- probably one of the best I have tasted .Nothing special about the chips maybe a bit too oily for my taste. The responses to some of the reviews from the owner are truly shocking. I do understand that some of these reviews might be fake but I surely as a business owner he can understand that he cannot please everyone. The words he is using are out of proportion in my opinion. On a final note I can only share my experience which was postive. I dont think anyone would be disappointed with fish and chips served there . Altought the chips were not as good as the fish I still believe it is a 5 star chippy.

Tasty chips, nice onion-y curry sauce and nice battered sausage. I love the 'steampunk' fish in the display case and theres a model railway under the counter. What more could you want? Thank you and see you again.

Simple: Quality product Great service Expertise Robin knows how to create the greatest fish n chips, cooked at a perfect temperature, and he knows how to present it. Look at his freshly fried Haddock served with the best lemons, and tell me you’re not moved. Taste it and tell me you’re going to buy fish n chips from any other outlet in Rugby! If you’re on a trip to Rugby make Mr Chips a must see, but check opening times! Keep going Robin and thanks again for another wonderful meal experience Sir.

Just had the most amazing Haddock n Chips from the legendary Mr Chips in Rugby….AGAIN. Robin’s Haddock is the best there is. It’s a work of art. Before you eat it, just look at it, photograph it! Paint it! Squeeze on the best quality lemon (supplied foc) break into the wonderfully crisp batter to reveal the freshest white Haddock you’ve ever seen and enjoy with beautiful perfectly cooked ‘real’ not frozen chips made from the best potatoes. Just a great treat on a winter’s evening….or at anytime really. Possibly the best fish n chips in the world and amazing value for money too. Keep calm Mr Chips & carry on! And thanks for being there for us!

Best chippy in rugby food was amazing. Our daughter has celiac and was so happy that she could have gluten free fish and chips she was so happy the lady wrote a lovely little message for her on her food wrapper and the owner gave her a free bottle of gluten free vinigar. Definitely worth the travel from Leicester for this chippy

Always make the effort to go th this chip shop when they are open, i have chippy a few times a week wherever I am in the country but when I'm back in rugby I always look forward to having fish and chips from Mr Chips... Only thing I would change, open more hours and days, so I can have them anyday anytime haha! Robin is a genuine guy and has a heart of gold too!

Best fish and chips we have had in Rugby, Definitely not as expensive as some other local ones , honestly the staff are so lovely, seen some horrible reviews on Facebook and can honestly say they are fake and false.

Mr Chips has been our local for the 10+ years we've been in Rugby, and it's been a delight to have such a top quality chippy on the doorstep. We went elsewhere once and that was a big mistake. We've had various international visitors and we always go to Mr Chips to make sure they have a proper British fish and chips experience - they have all loved it too. We generally get the fish or battered sausage and chips - thr chip portions are vast and easily serve two adults. An occasional pineapple fritter as a treat has never disappointed either. The only downside is the queue can sometimes be daunting, but since there's a good neighbourhood-friendly vibe it's never a trial. This time we bumped into the kids' piano teacher! Speaking of kids, they love the dancing lights outside - and when the little train set under the counter is running that goes down a treat too. Can't recommend enough - if you want a fish & chips in Rugby, this is THE place to go.

Really irritating when negative reviews are posted to clearly achieve malicious intent. Travelling through we stopped off for fish chips and peas. I accept it is no longer a cheap meal but it was certainly a quality meal with everything cooked nicely. Sadly its now a treat not a weekly ritual but it was at least a nice treat.

Have been going here for quite a long time. Unfortunately, my most recent visit points to a decline in quality. Upon walking in, I could already tell that the staff seemed miserable and wanting to get off the shift. Placed my order, had to wait around for what seemed like an unusually long time. In the past I have made conversation with the owner and staff but, as said, they seemed miserable on this occasion so I just did the standard tapping away on my phone. The prices and quality of the food also aren't as good. Prices I can understand with inflation being what it is, but there's no excuse for what is average quality combined with quite small portions. It's really no better than most other local chippies in this sense. I would also observe the attitude of the owner when it comes to negative reviews online. Check them out for yourself, just about every one has a snarling, angry response from the owner. Some of them accuse the dissatisfied customer of being greedy, others of being ignorant, a few even made the claim that it's a put up job from a rival. If he disagrees with the assessment then he should politely say so, or even better acknowledge that there is an issue and commit to fixing it. All in all it deserves an average rating, whereas it would have been five stars some years ago. Room for improvement.

Came here with the intention of getting a classic English fish and chips. Instead, I left dissatisfied with the food as the fish was undercooked and tasted like Damascus steel. I think I lost a stone just from the runs it gave me. Chips were very good though.

I'd heard good things about this place from previous reviews and was looking for a place that catered for those with gluten intolerance. The fish and chips we ordered was disappointing. The chips were under done and the fish was over fried resulting in very dark batter just shy of being burnt. The fish itself wasn't as expected as it was the half the size of normal fish and was lacking in flavour even with the addition of salt and vinegar.The positive is customer service by the two ladies who served us. Smiled and were very polite. Will consider coming back to give it another go as it could have been a one off issue. Response to the Owner: Thanks for the response. I'm not sure the way I worded my review was offensive. It was an honest review. I chose your establishment as you offered gluten free on a Saturday, which the other chip shop you mentioned didnt. I have no affiliation with any other chip shops as you have implied. The point of a review is to do just that, which can include positive or negative based on the customer experience. As a customer I can be disappointed with the product, that's my opinion and choice. Also, when you receive a negative review, the way to respond would be to acknowledge it, apologise and to welcome the customer back to hopefully rectify the issues raised. Try and refrain from personal attacks by calling them trolls and pig ignorant. I have not resorted to this as I don't know you personally and wouldn't do that to anyone. In the current economic climate, you are obviously in a very privileged position to turn customers away with the responses. Fair enough, it's your business. On my initial review I did say I'd like to return but you've made it clear I'm not welcome. You don't have to reply as you have a clear customer base that you should cater for.

I’ve been visiting Robin and his team for many years now, they’re all very welcoming and customer service is spot on, the food is always delicious. It’s a shame some trolls have tried slating this business for absolute nothing, I can 100 percent vouch for Robin, his team and food as being great.

Always enjoy the fish from Mr Chips. Mr chips is only open Thurs Fri and Sat. I have tried other chip shops, but personally. I think Mr Chips is the best batter in town.

Went in, asked for Fish and chips....sadly was told by the owner 'fish cooked to order'....which sadly means, your fish doesn't drain of the oil it's cooked in and you get to eat that ,laden with excess oil. Not for me.Poor really,if you're on limited time for a lunch break aswell having to wait due to the owner having nothing cooked doesn't help either really does it? Having used many chippy's in the town, this one doesn't rate well at all if you're a customer.

Absolutely terrible food, cold soggy chips and gristly greasy kebab meat food hygiene is pretty much non existent place needs closing down absolute joke would give it a zero if I could appalling

The chips were a little over done for my own personal taste hence the 4 stars instead of five. The fish was lovely and freshly cooked to order, happy to wait the five minutes or so waiting for it to be cooked. However the stand out was the curry sauce...there was just something different about it in a very good way compared to other chip shops, I just made the mistake of ordering a large when I could of got away with a medium

I was told this fish and chips did gluten free and so I needed to try it. I was so impressed. I am coeliac, I have now eaten here twice and been absolutely fine since eating here so totally recommend to coeliacs. The chips can be a bit soft but thats fine for me but the fish in batter is lovely and they offer gluten free vinegar so really impressed.

What can I say AWESOME!! Fish cooked to perfection the fish was plump,white and very tasty, I have had both haddock & cod. The batter was golden and crispy and not to greasy The chips was also crispy and golden and not to greasy. Would definitely recommend Mr Chips 👍😘

Great fish,chips are good but not best

Honestly the best Fish and Chips I've ever had. Mr Chips sources his own potatoes locally and there's even a story his staff tell about him returning some because he didn't like them 😅 Don't expect to go in and out especially on a Friday evening as it can get quite busy. They make the chips fresh and if you want Haddock it'll take around 15 minutes. The wait is worth it though. Big sumptuous portions and free tartare sauce and/or lemon wedge for your fish! Great. Keep frying Mr Chips!!

As a Scotsman who grew up in Fife and regularly sampled the amazing fish and chips available at Anstruther, Pittenweem etc I was never that enamoured of English Fish and Chips, especially as I was used tot he staple Scottish gadiform of choice, lovely flakey fresh Haddock. Mr Chips has made me a convert however. chips are as good as anywhere else or better, the Cod is just incredible, proper thick white cuts with a lovely crisp batter. Cooked perfectly so it is still moist. No more cotton wool in batter for me. I have seen a few reviews about the attitude of the owner but I have always found all of the staff and the owner to be polite professional and efficient. Portions are excellent, I would rather have a healthy portion of good quality fish and chips than low quality fish and a dustbin full of chips no one human could finish. The price for me is reflected in the excellent quality of the fish. Remember it's not fish you are buying, it's men's lives! Andy The Beard.

quarter chicken & chips with curry sauce for the wife, cod & chips with mushy peas for myself absolutely lovely could not fault it, a friendly greeting from the owner Robin as you walk through the door and the young man serving was very polite and did an excellent job of serving my order. 10/10

The fish really is the best in the business and the chips are top notch. I would keep coming back for sure and its nice to see the owner who is a true gentleman engage with the customers whilst the food is cooking and give you some interesting facts about where the fish is sourced from.

Have been using Mr chips for many years and it is by far the best Fish and Chips in Rugby. The customer service and quality of food has always been outstanding which was proved more than ever tonight. After getting home with the order partially wrong(the fish was missing). I went back and this mistake was rectified by a completely fresh order and an upgrade on the fish. Robin the owner went above and beyond to ensure we were happy.

Poor service, didn’t put three items, absolutely pathetic standing their for 20min. And not getting the right order especially you have paid for those items.

Moved to Rugby 4 months ago and have been trying out different fish & chip establishments since then. Been waiting for Mr Chips to re-open because it is the closest to our home and seems to have lots of good reviews. Finally went there last night and we were not disappointed. Excellent fish (well cooked, quality product with fantastic crispy batter) and superb chips. Even the mushy peas were the best we have had locally. This will be our supplier of choice from now on.

I think the restaurant is only doing takeaway due to Covid-19. We bought fish and chips for 8 people and ate this on the steps across the shop. Very good fish and chips and scampi too. It was quite a long wait though..

First impression when I walked in was looking like shutting down 11 dried up totally unappetising sausages in the hot cupboard along with two fish cakes ,this was Saturday lunchtime in town and I was the only customer, strange right?I ordered my food, fish was absolutely lovely ,really good and so it should be for £7the chips however were dried up and inedible as they weren’t fresh, and the curry sauce tasted very strange and had chunks of onion in £12.90 I’m not a troll mr chips just a customer telling you what they see , it’s like a jumble sale in there and very much over priced, And before you say don’t come back sir , haha don’t worry I won’t ,and please stop microwaving kebab meat before you make someone very ill

I’m surprised by the couple of bad reviews here but fully concur with the good ones. The fish is cooked to order so is always fresh, no dry fish and soggy batter from hanging around too long here, and the chips are cooked in small batches (and discarded if not bought whilst fresh). OK you might have to wait a short while but it’s well worth it for food of this quality and freshness. Fish and chips is a rare treat for us these days, but Mr Chips is always our first choice.

Here we go again... Decided to return here after a few years because why not? Life's too short to hold grudges. However, life's too short to risk it by still eating here too... Upon arrival, the owner cast me an angry look because he knows I've written a bad review before. I chose to ignore him and gave his shop a second chance. I've made many mistakes in my life, most of them I've learnt from. However, I obviously didn't learn my lesson enough to be subjected to this atrocious excuse for a chip shop.Other than the arrogant owner shooting me dirty looks, the rest of the staff seemed lovely, really friendly service.The food, however, hasn't changed, it still transcends the faint taste of cardboard with a dash of hopelessness. I didn't even go near the 'fresh' microwaved kebabs this time and just opted for chips. Next time I will consider hemorrhoids before making that mistake again. Seriously, how can you get chips so wrong and charge a fortune for it? Word of advice: listen to your customers and stop being so pompous.

Ordered a standard cod which was fried in front of me, 2 battered sausages (for me) and a fish cake for my little daughter and a large portion of chips I'm now writing this with a full belly and left over chips (good quantity) I have no gripes/issues or complaints. Good to see there is now a contactless payment option, I admit I haven't been to Mr Chips in a while so I didn't know he had one and prior to my visit I went searching for a cash machine! I only wish parking was easier! But that isn't Mr Chips fault
