Great location for walking in to Chester, beds are uncomfortable, shower dirty, rooms paper thin, hair in breakfast meat which was pretty off putting.

I recently stayed at the Moxy Chester, and while there were some great aspects to the hotel, a few issues stood out. First, the positives: the beds are incredibly comfortable—one of the best I’ve experienced—and ensured a good night’s sleep. The location is fantastic, with plenty of restaurants and bars along the river just a short walk away. There’s also a massive Waitrose just a minute’s walk from the hotel, which is super convenient. Breakfast was a standout, with a wide variety of options, including plenty of vegetarian choices. The staff were also excellent—friendly, helpful, and welcoming. However, there are a few drawbacks. The bathroom is very small, which might not be ideal for everyone. There’s also no proper desk or chair in the room for working. The only seating option is a bench, which is not ergonomic and will strain your back if you try to work for any length of time. Working in the reception area isn’t much better, as the music is extremely loud, making it unsuitable for meetings, whether via call or face-to-face. The parking is £10 per 24 hours and very limited. They could also remind you at check-in that it's paid and to pay, if you forget you will be getting a ticket in the post which has happened to me. As a Titanium Bonvoy member, I was also disappointed that the hotel doesn’t offer any upgrade options, which felt like a missed opportunity. Overall, while the comfort of the bed, excellent staff, and great location make the Moxy Chester appealing, the lack of work-friendly spaces and limited perks for loyalty members might not make it the best option for business travelers.

Stayed here for 1 night! Beautiful hotel, staff were nice, and have an activity room on the first floor! Only thing was it says they do pizza 24/7 but when we asked at 1am after our night out, they said they couldn’t.

Great venue, fantastic service. Unfortunately only White Zinfandel rose wine, would be great if there was more of a selection.

A really good Moxy Hotel in the middle of Chester. It is a great location next to the Canal and just a 5 minute walk from Chester Train Station. The Hotel is modern and the decor is the typical Moxy Funky style which looks good 👍. Rooms are decent, nice Beds and windows that actually open 😎. Service is good, Breakfast is not bad with an okay variety of food on offer. The Hotel DOES have a Car Park (contrary to what it states on its Website) but it is only a small Car Park which it shares with the next door Gym (it has about 30 spaces for £6.50 per 24 hrs 👍)

Very welcoming, friendly staff on arrival and throughout our stay. Room was bit small with only one chair for a double room, however it was very clean. We were lucky to have a view over the very popular canal. Breakfast was amazing.

The hospitality from the staff here was nothing short of exceptional, particularly from David and Ryan. A problem with our room was rectified with an immediate move to the same room across the hall. All-day tea and coffee are available, the menu has allergy-friendly options, and the breakfast is delicious and plentiful. Our family-size room was clean and huge, with comfortable beds and soft pillows. There were enough towels for all of us, and we used the in-room electric kettle multiple times per day. David and Ryan answered our many questions and offered tourism advice and dining recommendations. We enjoyed having a Waitrose supermarket next door, and the Chester train station was conveniently close. We were in walking distance of historic downtown Chester with “The Rows” of shops, along with cathedrals, churches, parks, and museums. This was a fun visit, and we would definitely return to the Moxy Chester.

The bog positive of this place is that it's dog friendly. We like to stay there as it's also walking distance from the centre. But it's second time they tried to overcharge us. So do check the invoice!

Oh what to say... The staff absolutely spot on, friendly and happy to help, the vibe is erm quirky I guess, maybe this is an age thing but the constant music in the common areas of the hotel is (from my perspective) annoying, maybe if the volume was turned down a bit it wouldn't be so in your face. The rooms are cool (or hot) due to the wired air con set up so I suggest you read the label next to the controls but other than that the room was well presented and clean... Would I stay again yes probably but would come equipped with ear plugs for breakfast time....

We had a fabulous long weekend stay at the Moxy Chester with our dog, Chester! All the staff made us very welcome and Trisha was extremely helpful and assisted us with booking future stays at the Moxy Chester and provided us with a list of dog friendly pubs in the city centre. Location is great and the hotel is situated right on the canal which is a nice 5 minutes walk to the town centre. 👍

Chiquito, Ellesmere Port – 4pm on a Wednesday (Tex-Mex meets Travelodge lobby) We visited Chiquito at 4pm, the mealtime equivalent of a shrug. Too late for lunch, too early for dinner — that strange hinterland where you question all your life choices and seriously consider ordering nachos as a personality trait. The restaurant was about a third full, mostly people quietly chewing in laminated booths under mood lighting set permanently to “dusk in a theme park.” Staff hovered with polite smiles and the low-level energy of people who’ve already been asked three times whether fajitas come with sour cream. Then there were the walls. The walls were a riot of painted cacti, sombreros, and fake hacienda charm. It’s the sort of décor that feels like someone described Mexico to a man who once went to Benidorm and then asked him to design a restaurant. There were lizards on the lampshades. LIZARDS. I half expected the waiter to shout “Olé!” and slide across the floor like a flamenco-themed fire drill. It felt less like dining in Mexico and more like visiting a Mexican-themed gift shop run by a bloke called Keith. I had the jackfruit enchiladas — which, to be fair, looked the part. Smothered in sauce, hidden under a duvet of melted cheese, they arrived piping hot and carrying the faint aroma of optimism. Jackfruit is a brave choice. It has the texture of pulled pork if you squint, but the flavour of damp optimism. Still, it worked — kind of. My wife had chicken burritos and described them as “alright,” which in marriage code translates roughly to: “Don’t ask me to elaborate.” Service was friendly but moved at the pace of a sleepy burro. Lovely people, just in no rush whatsoever. We were halfway through our mains before we even noticed we didn’t have cutlery. For a moment, I considered eating with my hands in tribute to ancient Mayan traditions, but then remembered I was in Ellesmere Port, not Tulum. Now, atmosphere-wise, it wants to be a fiesta. There are bright colours, themed cocktails, and a playlist that thinks Ricky Martin is the cultural pinnacle of Latin America. But it never quite lifts off. It’s like watching someone try to start a party with a kazoo and a bag of tortilla chips. Suggestions (from a self-appointed Fiesta Consultant): • Replace the lizards with live maracas. Or at least glue googly eyes to them. • Include a “Spice Roulette” menu — one enchilada is secretly filled with Scotch Bonnet hellfire. Make dinner exciting again. • Add a dramatic “Guac Table Service” where someone in a sombrero makes guacamole at your table while narrating their heartbreak in Spanish. • Hire someone to slowly strum a guitar in the corner and look wistfully into the distance, just to create that moody telenovela vibe. Final verdict? Not a bad meal. No disasters. No flavour epiphanies. It’s the kind of place where the food fills you up, the decor gives you something to stare at, and the drinks are probably stronger than they should be at 4pm on a school night. Exactly what it says on the tin. That tin may be made of papier-mâché and wearing a sombrero, but hey — it’s trying its best.
