We were greeted and seated immediately, super quick service from the start and all the way through out, which was a pleasant surprise given the festive period. The food was delicious, the fish curry was definitely our favorite! Will be coming here again.

We went to Mowgli Leicester very disappointed with the miserly quantity of the dishes. Nearly four pounds for one puri! Staff nice, atmosphere was nice but overpriced and overrated.

Decided to go out to eat at Mogli Leicester branch with my Mrs for an authentic Indian Street Food meal. This is our comprehensive review. Welcome: Greeted by a lovely waitress who offered us the swing seats in the window which was nice. Ambiance: Decorated with white fairy lights everywhere. Décor is not conducive to traditional Indian Street food or Indian culture in any case. Tables had fake plastic wood wrap which is just tack for such a place. Attention to detail is lacking such as tree display sitting on top of the table rather than sitting on the ground. It's the small things that make a difference. Menu: Very well presented and some good names chosen by the family of Nisha Katona who clearly are passionate about their brand. Unfortunately Katona sold a majority stake in the business to private equity firm TriSpan. This has had an impact on the business. Presentation: Mostly served in cheap tiffin metal tubs which are used in India by the workers to carry food to work to eat at lunch. This then limits the portion size but it may also be a profit making get out clause to give small portions. Serving in a tiffin also takes away any chance for you to try to do any sort of presentation when its basically served in a re-usable metal lunch box. Cheap and cheerful but branded as authentic. Great marketing tool used here. Also very Indian trait, being tight!!. Taste: Unfortunately the taste was 5/10 as it lacked substance of originality, colour and the lamb and chicken was playing hide & seek. I know times are hard but if the Indian on the High Street can offer you so much meat that you pass out but being street food it really needs a few more morsels of goodness to make you feel you have got value for money. If the private equity company is struggling, maybe add an extra few pounds for some more meat in the curry. The overall taste was bland and very Englishyfied if I can use such word. The reality is the British palette is far more sophisticated these days than ever before due to international travel and cultural integration. Costs: The price point is actually good and affordable as your local or somewhere to go out as a special treat. Around £25-£30 per plate exclusive of drinks. Drinks: Good selection of wines and cocktails/mocktails which we had but I've had better in our local shisha bar. Room for improvement. Service: Serving staff were attentive and polite and food came out fast but tiffin's were cold and food was not piping hot as it should be. Did not like charity donation pre added to bill as teh diner should have the option to simply leave it at the counter or a box displaying Mogli's local charity. I should NOT feel compelled to request that is be removed and feel like scrooge. The service charge was also pre added to bill. This is Britain and NOT USA where tips are almost compulsory. There is no tipping culture in India just in case Mogli management are now all staff from Trispan and have no concept of British etiquette. Please allow diners to tip as they see fit. Once you implement this then staff will simply not care to impress the diners as they know they have a guaranteed tip as 95% of diners simply won't argue to have it removed. Not a family business trait Nisha!!! Recommendation: Nice clean chain of an attempt of authentic Indian Food but with no real substance by way of taste or experience. Most customers are non Asian so it is marketed to those customers who have little or no idea of what true Indian food is. Anything presented in shiny tin and a few twinkle lights for Instagram is all you need these days. In that sense they have a captive market. For those who want real food please go elsewhere. Thank you for reading.

Good environment and staff but food isn’t worth the price. Portions are just too small for price, would need to get more portions and a pricey bill and taste isn’t so fantastic for Indian cuisine. Will not visit again.

The ambience of this place is the main feature here - nice themed decoration and funky rope-swing type seats. However the food was not as special as we were expecting. The starter dishes were decent but the main courses surprised us (not in a positive way) in that everything was sweet. It felt like the kitchen had mistakenly added sugar instead of salt… Maybe this taste will appeal to a certain demographic but I went in there thinking it was going to be Indian street food - it wasn’t. It was actually more like Colonial Indian food

Unbelievable authentic Indian street food flavours from Mowgli, the Chat Bombs are out of this world. In fact, we couldn't fault any dish we had. They even allow you to take it away. Excellent portions & value for money, lightning fast service, friendly atmosphere, excellent selection of street foods I've never tried before. Veggies, vegans welcome too. Absolutely incredible. Will definitely be back for more. A resounding and well-earned 1000/1000 from us. You really gotta come here, trust me the flavours are out of this world, we also donated to the charity they support it was sooh awesome.

We visited Mowglis in Leicester today for lunch with 4 adults, 2 toddlers and 2 babies. We rang beforehand to check availability and if there would be space. We were told no problem to come on down. When we arrived we were met with someone who obviously hadn’t taken the call and didn’t greet us with a very friendly demeanour, they acted very put out by the fact we had children with us (despite having a children’s menu?) Our children were well behaved, however we really didn’t feel very welcome. We were asked to move the high chair to a different position, but then also as the high chair wasn’t appropriate for my 6 month old (not sitting independently yet) we swapped it so the pram to be beside the table, it wasn’t blocking any walkways but were asked to move it twice and was met with rolling of eyes by a certain member of staff and generally not a very accommodating or pleasant attitude. Actually she was quite rude when taking the order. The food itself was tasty, but I wouldn’t say particularly good value for money. Expensive for what you get, for stock recipes and small portions. The food came out before the drinks and very quickly Decor and cleanliness of restaurant was very nice, some staff we came across very pleasant but the lady who met us, seated us and took our order definitely tainted todays visit, a shame as now we won’t return.

This is NOT Indian street food! I am an Indian and have eaten Indian food all my 70 years! It’s a lovely place and the waiting staff are lovely. 😊 The food is ‘fancy’ but the taste is not something I’d call Indian, East, West, North or South. It seems an attempt at a mix of Indian spices with a taint of Mediterranean. It was not a cheap night out but all four of us left unfulfilled needing more to eat. We ended up in my hotel room with snacks and drinks. Not a place we will visit again for dinner but somewhere where we can gather for pre dinner drinks and snacks.

There were a lot of choices when we were walking through st martins square but, mowgli caught our eye because of the lighting, and cosy look. When we went in, we were greeted by a really smiley manager who took us to our table. We ended up ordering more as we saw the sharing menu, which was amazing value for money! We were served by two waitresses and the food came really quickly. This is the first time I have been to Mowgli. I eat Indian food very often and eat out at Indian restaurants 2-3 times a month. I would have to say I would never return to Mowgli again. What we paid and what we got was totally unreasonable. The portions are so small even the kids would be left hungry let alone grown adults. Very disappointed. We had to stop off at chaat wala on the way home to get a decent sized portion at a reasonable price and the fact we left Mowgli still hungry. Food was good not amazing but I'm surprised your still in business with these tiny portions. Also the service charge needs to go because that's just taking the mick, to be served a kid size meal and then expected to pay a service charge, no thank you.

The food was ok not anything memorable. The service was rushed we had food on our table 5 mins after we was sat but when it came time to pay no one was to be found also tables were very close to the point we had to disturb other guests to move when we wanted to use the toilet. Of which only 2 toilets in a restaurant no full length mirror and printed signs to say push the door reduced the overall vibe! When we told friends we had been they felt our experience was similar to theirs we won’t be going back. As to drinks menu! There is not a lot of options the wine was awful soft drinks expensive. A service charge added to a receipt without reasoning when questioned was told that was for the service you received left no tip as the service charge exceeded the value of the service provided!

Dishes were quite small, but they are sharing plates. Had the paneer wrap for starter. It was bigger than the main course. It was nice, but very little spice, if any at all, just tamarind. The Mowgli house chicken was nice, but unusual. It was more fragrant than anything, tasted more like a Thai curry. The lamb too was nice, but I certainly didn't recognise it as Indian. With the fragrant spices, it tasted more of a Moroccan style lamb dish. The mango lassi was nice, as was the gulab jamun. Not sure why they were shaped that way, or why there was pomegranate in the ice cream that accompanied it - they seemed to put pomegranate in everything. The service was great and the decor was beautiful. Sat on the swings during lunch which made for a unique dining experience. Would've liked more choice for desserts and starters. For dessert there was only three choices, two of which were ice cream and a chocolate brownie, both of which seemed a bit random on what's supposed to be an Indian menu.

Tried to book a table online, received an email confirming availability and a link asking for advance payment to block the table. As I was not comfortable doing that, I called the restaurant directly. The first time, I was asked to hold while they checked for availability and then they cut the line off. So called again and was told there was no availability. Got the distinct impression that whoever is answering the phone at this place is not interested in booking for larger groups (I asked for a table for 7). Once bitten twice shy, won’t be trying to go to this place again.

The young staff they have employed here are just rude and judgemental. They look you up and down and just can't be bothered to serve you. It's also there mannerisms - they really look like they can't be bothered to be there. It's the front of house staff Im talking about. A few of the girls. So rude, uninviting and off putting- not someone you want representing your restaurant chain. I've been twice and both times I felt the same way, what a shame because the setting / restaurant design is a lovely and the food is nice too. Hi , I want share my experience with any one going in future to eat in mowgli restaurant Leicester .We ordered in mowgli restaurant Yoghurt Chat Bombs was very tasty , Bhel Puri was very tasty, Mother Butter Chicken was ok , mother lamb was good , now Roti breads was very very poor quality look like ready made packed roti like they are toasting the roti and serving .I spend more then £100 I took my family and friends all want to do vomit because of roti they served. Please avoid to eat some of the food they are not professional for Indian food only good for restaurants look. Waste of money. Also quality is very very small portion according to the price .

Our first visit to Mowglis and it was disappointing. Food was luke warm, and nearly all of us end up with upset stomachs. We will not be returning.

I’ve been recommended Mowgli a number of times by friends that have been to one in Oxford. We were in Leicester so though might go and try this with the family. I am absolutely shocked at the quality of their food. I ordered a working tiffin which came with two chicken dishes and a veg dish. Both the chicken dishes had no taste what so ever. I did question at one stage was this bought from Tesco’s as a ready meal and served to us with a £20 price tag. I would not recommend any food lover to go and waste your money. Food should feel and taste different with the type of experience they have and frankly didn’t meet any expectations.

This was a nice place, and the food was good too. The staff were friendly and recommended some nice dishes. It was reasonably priced too, so I’d come here again.

Beautiful atmosphere was all this place had along with the great service. But despite all of this the food was supbar i ordered a prawn curry and it just tasted like tomato soup mixed with chunks of fish. The chaat bombs was also pretty mediocre. I was shocked by how well this place is rated despite the food’s quality. Would not go here again.

I’ve been to Mowgli in Nottingham several times and it’s always been excellent ! My Leicester experience nowhere near. All the dishes were Luke warm the staff came nowhere near us. Had to keep calling them over even though the restaurant was almost empty. Mowgli has always been a touch expensive but the experience worth it but definitely not at Leicester 🫤 It’s probably a lack of training as they didn’t seem to be on it at all and were stood around chatting to each other whenever we needed service. Missed opportunities to offer more drinks. Sorry Mowgli but not a patch in Nottingham won’t visit again 😬

Was recommended to try Mowgli by friends so decided to when we spotted one on a trip to Leicester, I went on Tripadvisor as I always do prior to going and saw the recent reviews weren’t particularly good so almost decided against it. So glad my son and myself went, the service was very good with friendly, helpful staff and even the manager came over as we were leaving to check all was good. We ordered 2 curries and 4 sides which were all lovely and tasty. Would highly recommend the treacle fries and lamb curry especially. Will definitely visit again !

I took my family here for dinner. I must say the decoration inside was beautiful. We ordered our food and when we received it, we were all a little shocked. Quite small portions, served in, what I can only describe as camping tin pots. Terrible for the money charged. But the worse was.. my son’s food was served in a hunk of white bread, which was growing mould on the side!!!!!! This was obviously replaced but no mention of any money back. Disgusting. When I came to pay the bill, the lady informed me she had already taken off the vast amount of money for the service charge, as if doing this would compensate me! I was going to have it taken off anyway (my decision) I hate this practice nowadays. I will not be going again

My two friends kept recommending Mowgli to me as they went as a family, finally it was my time! We went on a Saturday afternoon. The service was great and the atmosphere was also nice, it's located in a busy square so lots of people to watch if you're In a window seat. We got the swing seats, definitely worth the experience. The food, well the food was amazing. I don't think I've tasted recipes like it before, everything felt fresh and punchy in flavour but also unfamiliar. It was also my birthday so I got a birthday brownie which was awesome and also delicious. Would absolutely recommend the yogurt bombs, angry bird, vegan keema and the sticky chicken but all of it was amazing.

I had skipped breakfast and wanted lunch. We came across mowgli as not alot was open nearby. The food was absurdly poor. The mowgli sticky chicken was very dry. The lamb and chicken curries were very bland. Monkey wrap was average at best. Probably one of the worst restaurants in Leicester. Overpriced for what we had. Portions are small. They got the order wrong and served chicken to a vegetarian. This was in a quiet time where there was only 1 other couple in the resteraunt so it's hard to understand how they messed that up if it isn't even busy. The venue looks nice. Very disappointed.

Everything except food was great- attentive, funny service, nice drinks, good ambience to sit. Came out with my family…Probably worst Indian food (any restaurant food) we have had. Nearest comparison we could arrive at was boarding school mess food. Even the portions were tiny, which in hindsight was a blessing. Maybe the chefs were having a really bad day. This place has top PR managercause I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone . Never visiting again. Complete rip off. Please try harder. Food should be a focus for restaurants. It’s not just the recipe… recipes are interpretations of a dish, they should still taste decent.

We left a bad review. A tone of rebuke is noticed in the reply from the restaurant that stated “the recipes are from the founder’s home.” Dear Mowgli team, a legacy of bad food is not worth conserving..

Atmosphere was nice but that was it. We understand it was meant to be a tapas style meal, but the prices were still ridiculous (£30 for two people and the cheapest drinks). Were told swing seats aren't bookable due to demand (understandable) and when some were available, we were denied access to them since we booked a time in advance, and then proceeded to seat another couple in said spot who had no prior booking.

Just Punjabi is a very nice place which is located in Belgrave Road in Leicester. Food was prepared during our visit, so it was brought in the frying pan which was steaming. We ordered mixed grill and fish which were very delicious. Service was fast, polite and pleasant. The restaurant is beautiful and cosy though it is not very big. Thank you for such a pleasant time on Saturday night.

Went here once when it opened after being the currywala. The new owners were false advertising offers to bring people in and we felt conned. We spent about £20 on a Peri Peri Chicken and a curry with rice as a take away. When we got it home the consistency was glue. The chicken Peri Peri tasted rotten as though it had been marinated for a month in a bucket. I had to contemplate calling in the Environmental Health department as it was so disgusting. They even had a kid manning the reception taking the orders to get people to feel sorry for them and stay when duped into going in there. I love Indian food and this visit made me heave. They have now closed as Spice Bengal and a new name is being put over the door - make sure it is not the same people or you could be sorry.
