Mowgli Street Food in Leicester

Have been looking forward to finally going to experience Mowglis. Unfortunately was disappointed overall. Restaurant decor and aesthetic is good, very charming that's almost where the good stuff ends. We opted for the £25 sharing offering. The chat bombs were undeniable good, credit where credits due. Sadly everything else was lacking. Gun powder chicken was Luke warm and as for calling it gunpowder...well the gunpowder was damp today ! Mildly spiced boarding bland. The other curries which you accept will be chosen for you were all chicken. The chicken in both curries were cooked to death. To cook chicken thighs to that point takes some doing. The sauces on both were ok but immediately forgettable. Rice...bland no flavour ! Roti breads ok. Chick peas fairly pleasant but nothing to get wild about. Food arrived prompt but everything else service wise was slow and clumsy. Such a shame really. Could be great but not today

We had the street food sharer which was amazing value. It would be good to see more vegetables on the menu. Service was first class and the Cardoman Old fashioned was top class

Incredible spot. We had a birthday dinner here and the team made it so memorable — even brought out a dessert with a candle! Everything we ordered was packed with flavor and came out quickly. Great atmosphere, even better food. Will be back soon.

A gem of a place! We came for Mother’s Day and had the best day! The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the staff made us feel warm from the moment we walked in. Our server recommended a great mix of dishes, and they were all phenomenal. Incredible food, impeccable service!

First time here and I was seriously impressed. The menu is packed with vegetarian and vegan options, but meat lovers won’t feel left out either. Everything was cooked perfectly and full of depth. The staff was attentive without hovering, and the vibe was relaxed but upbeat. Loved it.

The best Mother’s Day. The flavors here are unreal. Everything came out hot and fast, and the service was just as good as the food — friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable.

If I could give it 0 stars I would, really spoilt a nice family day out by serving us with a paneer wrap that had a long blond hair wrapped within the food. It was disgusting.Following that their waiters instead of apologising were rude and not even cleaned up. The customer service is Zero the food was bad and our whole day out was spoiled. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else if you can.

Food was horrible, it had no Indian seasonings or even as little as salt, the roti was rock hard and stale and completely crumbled in your hands. The portions were small. The butter chicken was watery and not very good.

Aesthetics are cute. The mango lassi (drink) was good. Food not authentic, the portions are small. Curries are watery with boiled meat. Will not go again. £140 for 5 people- was NOT worth it.

The food here is delicious. We ordered the Street Food Sharer, and various other menu items. It is very good value for money and the food is very flavourful & fresh. The menu also caters for all dietary requirements. The only downside was the customer service, it was nonexistent, very poor, and non-attentive. There was a lot of staff members working however not doing very much, other than talking to each other & sipping on refreshments, tables were unclean and unkept, customers were waiting a long while to be served and there was no attentiveness in providing good quality friendly customer service which was quite a shame and a disappointment.

Food had no seasoning, or salt!! The roti was hard and stale. The butter chicken lacked flavour and was watery. The woman that served us gave us a dirty look. Would not come here again

Had much with family. Not bad. The best was the goan fish. Suggest don’t bother either lamb, wasn’t great at all. Good ambience. Friendly staff. We ordered Goan fish curry, fenugreek potato fries( cubed mind you not like fries) roti’s - was average. Lamb curry, gunpowder chicken was good and Dahl was as well. One desert and 2 non alcoholic drinks. Total bill was 74£. It was overall good.

Brilliant service. We went to 9 places at 5.30 in a Saturday in town and were turned away as we didn't have a booking. We had a baby to feed and no I one could accommodate except for the amazing concierge at Mowgli's. Thank you

Nothing close to indian food, just grind every vegetable and cook it for 5 mins, and your mowgli food will be ready. Literally there was only one guy taking order and serving at same he was nice though. But i wont recommend this place for indian food. Just nice decoration with some swing.

We have been to the Oxford branch so knew what to expect and we really enjoyed our lunch. Three different curries, not too large or heavy and completely different from the norm so well done and all piping hot. So the food great and the staff great but could we please have warm plates as ours were cold and the place wasn’t warm either, no heating, just so my food doesn’t go cold please because it’s all really great.

Came here with a couple of friends on a Saturday evening. Ambience was lovely; the ropes and fairy lights between tables helped absorb sound so it wasn’t so noisy, and made our space feel more private/secluded. We each ordered the £25 sharing platter which consisted of yoghurt chat bombs, basmati rice, fenugreek kissed fries, roti breads, gunpowder chicken, mother butter chicken, mowgli paneer, temple dhal and the house lamb and chicken curries, plus mango/salted caramel ice cream for dessert. Everything was super tasty - we particularly enjoyed the gunpowder chicken and paneer curry. Portions were huge so I definitely think we could have got away with ordering 2 x sharing platters between the three of us! But always better to have too much food than not enough. Service was good, but I’ve knocked a star off because I dislike the trend of automatically adding a service charge to the bill.

My girlfriend and I had our first date at Mowgli a year ago on Saturday so we reenacted it and went again for our first anniversary! Melina and the other servers were so friendly! Lovely atmosphere, and perfect for dates! Loved that there was a whole vegan menu! The chaat bites are SUBLIME!!! I would come back for just them! Unfortunately I wasn’t a big fan of the Holy Chow, a mango curry served in half a white loaf. The daal was mediocre in my opinion, but my girlfriend enjoyed it with the Mowgli keema karma, which I found tasty as well! The coconut sorbet was delicious to finish on! Mowgli in St. Martin’s Square, Leicester, is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to enjoy Indian cuisine with a creative twist. Restaurant half empty offered the swings - nice idea but not for me. Asked to move to a more comfy table for 4 but advised as only a 2 was offered a small table under a tree. Ask why as restaurant not busy? And we had an event to go to so would not be dining for long. Server disappeared didn’t come back so we sat down. Not very welcoming! My daughter ask for a recommendation, a mild dish with chicken - we took the advice, dish arrived with chilli pepper slices all over it. No one came to do a satisfaction check so I swop dishes with her and we eat the food. The restaurant was cold I was glad to put my coat back on and leave. A gimmick style brand to be avoided.

Desafortunadamente debido a mi intolerancia alimentaria (que les había notificado al hacer la reserva) solo había un elemento en todo el menú que podría tener. Ni siquiera podía tener el arroz (que tenía semillas), pero el chef me hizo un lote sencillo desde cero. El pollo Gunpowder que tenía estaba delicioso y mi marido dijo que su pollo de mantequilla también lo estaba. Tenía ganas de comer aquí y el gerente va a sacar adelante mis comentarios para que ojalá pueda volver cuando tengan aceite de girasol para cocinar. Nuestro servidor Teo era excelente y trató de encontrar soluciones para nosotros. Tristemente no podemos dar más de 2 estrellas en esta ocasión, esperemos que para una segunda visita.

I love the atmosphere, and I love the food. But ironically, a restaurant with 10,000 lights has a special menu category for low-carbon-footprint dishes. 👣 😉😂🤣

We were lucky to get the swings table but everything went downhill after that. The atmosphere and decor was fabulous but the food was not as great. The treacle tamarind fries were too sweet, not much tamarind flavour. The mowgli keema karma and the mowgli paneer had the same flavour. The himalayan cheese toast was overpowered with cumin and the pickle was too salty. The ruby wrap was an open wrap with 3 pieces of paneer. The holy chow didn't have much flavour and was very disappointed with the presentation and flavours. The masala chai was more of an English tea with cinnamon flavour.

A beautiful restaurant, decked out in fairy lights creating a magical atmosphere. I had the Indian school curry set which has 3 different vegetarian curries. Each was wonderfully spiced and unique in taste. I also had a delicious rum cocktail. Overall a delicious and homely eating experience.

Really lovely restaurant, with a sparkling atmosphere. The food was delicious with an extensive gluten free menu. All the gluten free dishes were very nice and the variety was great. Would definitely eat here again. It’s so great to see a gluten free menu displayed outside alongside the other menus.

My wife and I went to Mowgli restaurant for a Valentine's Day dinner. The menu was £35 per person. The customer service was poor; the waitress rushed us and didn't give us enough time to decide. The food was overcooked, and the rice was very sticky. The curries lacked flour, and were not authentic. The portions were tiny, served in boxes, and we had to share. We were very disappointed.

This place was amazing, we were struggling to find somewhere that was just easy and quick, and not too filling as we were a bit late to go out for lunch. Saying that you could get a decent sized meal here no problem. Every dish we had was so tasty and full of flavour, even the Mocktail I had, the cinnamon cola! We had the tamarin treacle fries, the gunpowder chicken, yoghurt chat bombs and roti. We will definitely be coming back here, the staff are friendly, the restaurant is really well setup and they are dog friendly. All in all 5 stars

I was visiting Leicester for the day and thought we would pop into the restaurant as it looked enchanting with all the pretty fairy lights. I loved the ambience in the restaurant. However the food was very disappointing. The food portions are very small and taste is mediocre. Being Asian this is not authentic Indian street food but adapted to suit the British pallet. The daal we ordered was bland. It was evident they had not added authentic spices and a proper tarkha. The rest of the curries all had the same base but changed the name of each dish but adding a few extra ingredients and I found the flavours disappointing. I looked around and I was the only Asian eating in the restaurant even though there is a high Asian population in Leicester which I understood why! If you’re going to claim it’s authentic Indian street food then you do need to ensure it is. I could certainly teach the chefs how to improve their dishes and I don’t even consider myself a skilled cook!

The food was really nice as usual. But I went here on Friday, I walked in, it was empty. A man came over to the door ,I asked if they were open. He shouted well obviously the doors are open. He asked if I was eating in I said yes. He gave me a menu. I asked for a gluten free menu. He threw the origina menu across the table . I felt very intimidated by him. It was only me and him on the restaurant floor. I tried to make conversation to not make more of am atmosphere. A few minutes later a female staff member came in. She was very nice.

Starters were really good. Sadly the mains were not great. The butter chicken was bland & tasteless. Also quite watery which was a shame. Also no roti available. Service was ok . I know dogs are allowed but not on the seats. A couple had to move because a dog was on the seat next to them. I'm not anti dog but maybe not in this type of restaurant. Just seemed odd. For what you pay it was disappointing

We went to Mowgli Leicester very disappointed with the miserly quantity of the dishes. Nearly four pounds for one puri! Staff nice, atmosphere was nice but overpriced and overrated.

Decided to go out to eat at Mogli Leicester branch with my Mrs for an authentic Indian Street Food meal. This is our comprehensive review. Welcome: Greeted by a lovely waitress who offered us the swing seats in the window which was nice. Ambiance: Decorated with white fairy lights everywhere. Décor is not conducive to traditional Indian Street food or Indian culture in any case. Tables had fake plastic wood wrap which is just tack for such a place. Attention to detail is lacking such as tree display sitting on top of the table rather than sitting on the ground. It's the small things that make a difference. Menu: Very well presented and some good names chosen by the family of Nisha Katona who clearly are passionate about their brand. Unfortunately Katona sold a majority stake in the business to private equity firm TriSpan. This has had an impact on the business. Presentation: Mostly served in cheap tiffin metal tubs which are used in India by the workers to carry food to work to eat at lunch. This then limits the portion size but it may also be a profit making get out clause to give small portions. Serving in a tiffin also takes away any chance for you to try to do any sort of presentation when its basically served in a re-usable metal lunch box. Cheap and cheerful but branded as authentic. Great marketing tool used here. Also very Indian trait, being tight!!. Taste: Unfortunately the taste was 5/10 as it lacked substance of originality, colour and the lamb and chicken was playing hide & seek. I know times are hard but if the Indian on the High Street can offer you so much meat that you pass out but being street food it really needs a few more morsels of goodness to make you feel you have got value for money. If the private equity company is struggling, maybe add an extra few pounds for some more meat in the curry. The overall taste was bland and very Englishyfied if I can use such word. The reality is the British palette is far more sophisticated these days than ever before due to international travel and cultural integration. Costs: The price point is actually good and affordable as your local or somewhere to go out as a special treat. Around £25-£30 per plate exclusive of drinks. Drinks: Good selection of wines and cocktails/mocktails which we had but I've had better in our local shisha bar. Room for improvement. Service: Serving staff were attentive and polite and food came out fast but tiffin's were cold and food was not piping hot as it should be. Did not like charity donation pre added to bill as teh diner should have the option to simply leave it at the counter or a box displaying Mogli's local charity. I should NOT feel compelled to request that is be removed and feel like scrooge. The service charge was also pre added to bill. This is Britain and NOT USA where tips are almost compulsory. There is no tipping culture in India just in case Mogli management are now all staff from Trispan and have no concept of British etiquette. Please allow diners to tip as they see fit. Once you implement this then staff will simply not care to impress the diners as they know they have a guaranteed tip as 95% of diners simply won't argue to have it removed. Not a family business trait Nisha!!! Recommendation: Nice clean chain of an attempt of authentic Indian Food but with no real substance by way of taste or experience. Most customers are non Asian so it is marketed to those customers who have little or no idea of what true Indian food is. Anything presented in shiny tin and a few twinkle lights for Instagram is all you need these days. In that sense they have a captive market. For those who want real food please go elsewhere. We were greeted and seated immediately, super quick service from the start and all the way through out, which was a pleasant surprise given the festive period. The food was delicious, the fish curry was definitely our favorite! Will be coming here again.

The restaurant was full of Christmas groups so I was amazed to be served so quickly. The food here is always delicious: it tastes fresh with lots of different flavours. Although a busy night, we were well looked after. A super place to eat out in Leicester!

Good environment and staff but food isn’t worth the price. Portions are just too small for price, would need to get more portions and a pricey bill and taste isn’t so fantastic for Indian cuisine. Will not visit again.

The ambience of this place is the main feature here - nice themed decoration and funky rope-swing type seats. However the food was not as special as we were expecting. The starter dishes were decent but the main courses surprised us (not in a positive way) in that everything was sweet. It felt like the kitchen had mistakenly added sugar instead of salt… Maybe this taste will appeal to a certain demographic but I went in there thinking it was going to be Indian street food - it wasn’t. It was actually more like Colonial Indian food

I’d give 10 stars if I could! I had read a lot of amazing reviews so thought I’d try out Mowgli in st martins square. The food was amazing and great value for money, the atmosphere was insta worthy and my waitress Sophie was very helpful, answering all of my questions on my allergy and bringing o it my food quickly! Chat bombs were 10/10 treacle fries and curries were amazing.

Unbelievable authentic Indian street food flavours from Mowgli, the Chat Bombs are out of this world. In fact, we couldn't fault any dish we had. They even allow you to take it away. Excellent portions & value for money, lightning fast service, friendly atmosphere, excellent selection of street foods I've never tried before. Veggies, vegans welcome too. Absolutely incredible. Will definitely be back for more. A resounding and well-earned 1000/1000 from us. You really gotta come here, trust me the flavours are out of this world, we also donated to the charity they support it was sooh awesome.

Fue recibido por un amable miembro del equipo para nuestra reserva (buen comienzo) y nos dieron menús establecidos... tuvimos que pedir la opción de menú estándar. Tomó un tiempo para que alguien cubriera y tomara nuestro pedido (se puede saber cuándo la mesa está pidiendo bebidas y también listo para pedir comida al mismo tiempo. ) Lo que llegó fue caliente y fresco, pero marcamos con nuestra camarera enseguida que nos faltaba un arroz. Dijo que iría a buscarlo, pero luego la vimos llevar comida a otras dos mesas. Pasaron 10 minutos y nuestro grupo comenzó a terminar sus comidas. Llamé con otra camarera que dijo que sería inmediatamente y no se disculpaba, otros minutos pasaron antes de que llegara sin apenas reconocimiento de la demora y sin oferta para eliminar de la cuenta. También nos faltaba un pan roti, pero no nos molestamos en marcar ya que nuestra amiga había terminado su comida antes de que valiera la pena preguntar. Para cuando alguien preguntó cómo estaba nuestra comida, solo estaba el miembro de nuestro grupo que había esperado por el arroz que aún comía. Entendemos que la comida sale cuando está lista, pero nadie pide curry para tener el arroz como un segundo plato 10 minutos después! Especialmente no en un restaurante de alto costo. Luego, para ver que se añadía automáticamente un cargo por servicio a nuestro brill simplemente nos sentimos amargos. (algunos establecimientos lo reconocen cortésmente para que los clientes sepan que es opcional. ) pedimos que esto se eliminara. Por favor, asuma que las mesas solo pagarán un alto cargo por servicio, si va a ofrecer un excelente servicio.

Fabulosa cadena de restaurantes. Nos encanta la comida y el servicio en Leicester fue rápido y amable. El restaurante era un poco ruidoso, pero atribuimos esto a lo popular que es Mowgli. Se le dio nuestro "pasaporte" para recoger sellos de diferentes lugares de Mowgli para ganar dinero. Lástima como ya había estado en Nottingham y Liverpool y no estaba al tanto de esto, pero con ganas de convertirme en un turista de Mowgli 😊.

We visited Mowglis in Leicester today for lunch with 4 adults, 2 toddlers and 2 babies. We rang beforehand to check availability and if there would be space. We were told no problem to come on down. When we arrived we were met with someone who obviously hadn’t taken the call and didn’t greet us with a very friendly demeanour, they acted very put out by the fact we had children with us (despite having a children’s menu?) Our children were well behaved, however we really didn’t feel very welcome. We were asked to move the high chair to a different position, but then also as the high chair wasn’t appropriate for my 6 month old (not sitting independently yet) we swapped it so the pram to be beside the table, it wasn’t blocking any walkways but were asked to move it twice and was met with rolling of eyes by a certain member of staff and generally not a very accommodating or pleasant attitude. Actually she was quite rude when taking the order. The food itself was tasty, but I wouldn’t say particularly good value for money. Expensive for what you get, for stock recipes and small portions. The food came out before the drinks and very quickly Decor and cleanliness of restaurant was very nice, some staff we came across very pleasant but the lady who met us, seated us and took our order definitely tainted todays visit, a shame as now we won’t return.

This is NOT Indian street food! I am an Indian and have eaten Indian food all my 70 years! It’s a lovely place and the waiting staff are lovely. 😊 The food is ‘fancy’ but the taste is not something I’d call Indian, East, West, North or South. It seems an attempt at a mix of Indian spices with a taint of Mediterranean. It was not a cheap night out but all four of us left unfulfilled needing more to eat. We ended up in my hotel room with snacks and drinks. Not a place we will visit again for dinner but somewhere where we can gather for pre dinner drinks and snacks.

we received a warm welcome on arrival, food was nice ! portions are small so you do need to order allot so can get pricey , atmosphere feels very nice and warm, very good décor, would definitely recommend a visit

Bastante bien, pero no se sentía como nada especial. Tenemos el libro en casa y tengo que decir que lo que cocina mi marido sabe exactamente lo mismo. No estoy seguro si eso es mérito de él o de la exactitud del libro. 😝 Ojalá hubiera pedido del menú ya que las cosas del set no eran mi gusto. Tampoco fue el más cálido. El precio no era tan malo, pero especialmente como en algún lugar tan diverso como Leicester, no estoy convencido de que no podría haber tenido una experiencia similar en cualquiera de los otros restaurantes locales. Al mantener a los chefs ocultos, esto se sintió un poco no auténtico / corporativo para un ojo 'turista'.

Food and service was great but when getting home I seen my bill and I'd been charged 10% Service Charge and £1 charity, why wasn't we asked about these as it came to £9 extra on the bill
