Dakshin in Leicester

Affordable, tasty and fresh for dosas. Not a fan of chilli paneer though. If you want a very good dosa go to Dakshin. And cash only. Slight inconvenience but not a problem for us.

I went here with my boyfriend few weeks ago, it was good.

Went to restaurant with family. There is no management at all. 2 family already waiting in queue and a random family comes and grabs a table. The lady managing cash counter is clueless and doesn't support the right thing. Will never visit such a restaurant where there is no management and respect for customers waiting in queue.

Amazing South Indian taste food. We had last time dosa and some chats. This time we had thali which reminded me of my childhood days back in India. Rasam and other curries was so delicious like authentic taste. Meghana is very good and friendly girl. X

To my amazement, tap water was given half glass full with no jug. Asked for more and never got it. We haven't came for a while hear, but the food is now pretty bland. Tap water can be given at almost every doorstep through out the world. To try and make people feel low and profit from it, is a all time moral low value. Shame on you Dakshin.

The food is really outstanding every meal we had was full of favour and cooked to perfection I really suggest paneer butter masala, butter naan and rava masala dosa… Hands down some of the most delicious food I’ve eaten lately!!and The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive❤️

Highly recommend this restaurant for south indian dishes. And the quality of the food is also fabulous in taste... Even the service of the people (Meghana and Likitha and chef) working there is also very kind and the way they receive the customers in a beautiful way... I went last week to this place the ambience is average but the food and service is very good... There I love paratha and chapati and uthhapam along with paneer tikka masala...

A no frills place, simple South Indian food cooked to the best. Specialist Dosa place, in Leicester. If you want the best Dosa, you have to comets Dakshin. ❌❌No friendly staff at all. ❌❌ Worst treatment to the customers. I went with my friend and ordered two different dosa's. From which one of dosa was wrong. After correcting it one of the staffs gave me a terrible look as it was my fault that she didn't heard my order properly. Secondly, when we were still sitting and having tea one of the staffs was in a hurry to clean the table , she didn't wait for us to finish. And then, the other staff came and "Rudely" asked us to get up and insulted us in front of all the customers. As there was a family waiting outside the the restaurant. So if there are people waiting outside will you ask the people to get up and leave. Raised her voice when I said I did not liked the treatment we got. ❌I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND "DAKSHIN" TO ANYONE FROM NOW ❌ Horrible treatment ❌❌❌❌

We ended up in this place today due to the closure of Shiv Sagar and had a bad taste with food and service. Podi ghee idli was good and thats the only good thing of the night. Masala dosa served with cold chutneys and big chunks of potato masala, phav bhaji which is not in the menu but we ordered it seeing it is being served to a different table and quickly realized the resaon behind it not being in the menu, it was toasted bun with potato curry. On top of it this guys dont accept card payments which is mentioned in the corner of the table and will not be informed to customers when they are seated. Board says no card but then my next table paid by card, when asked lady in the counter says card is accepted for 30 and above only(which is not mentioned anywhere in the restaurant). Lady at the counter is really arrogant and shows her tantrum by throwing stuff around when asked for anything. They dont have basic etiquette on how to interact with the customer. Save your money and time , visit one of the other restaurants for better food and experience. As i cant reply to owners reply, editing the review. I am not tarnishing anything, just stating what happened. You response is clear indication of your restaurants attitude towards your customer. 1. I was with my wife and daughter. My wife had to step up and ask your manager to behave. You have to stop defending yourself with false allegations. 2. One of your waiters came to our table and apologized for your managers behavior. 3. Read more reviews about your restaurant and you will realize its just not me. 4. Stop playing gender card for these things, i was talking infront of my daughter and i am very much aware of giving respect.

We have been coming to this restaurant since years and this particular time when we entered we were (by relatively new girls) told we cant have the table that we chose, later we sat on the table we were allocated, due to the busy road & since our baby was sleeping we closed the door that was behind the table opening to the road. Then again the same girl came & closed the door, when I said I want it closed she again asked us to move to a cramped up table with no space. I asked if its hot then she can turn on the a.c. Instead of opening the door but according it was not working. At 3 pm we were told that we cant have the south indian thali since orders are only taken until 2:45, utter blunder and no good service was provided ruining the day for us

I had a Mysore Masala Dosa which is spread with a hot chilli chutney and stuffed with potatoes and served with 3 little dips (chutney) and a small lentil soup (sambar). This is my second time here last time was pre-COVID, food is consistently good, reasonably priced (£10 inc Mango Lassi). I was too late to try the Thali so I will try to get there earlier to check that out. PLEASE NOTE CASH ONLY!

Food Hygiene…. “ZERO” Long human hair found in the dosa… “DISGUSTING” A second family approached us to inform us they had the same problem…hair in their food. Not having basic hygiene procedures in the food preparation means contamination when eating it. Indifferent staff who clearly have repeated complaints regarding hygiene.

The quality has drastically improved. Ghee Dosa, Chutney , Sambhar - Simply Delicious. Amazing Team!

Worst customer service ever.i had to ask for a glass of water then she just gave me one and we were 4. Then I asked again then she brought just another one glass. Another staff was on her phone talking while she was serving hot food to my kid. Compared to amaravathi the staff and food were very poor...

Worst service I have ever received in my life. Absolute 0 service, at all. Ridiculous. We came in and asked for a table, the lady serving gave us a weird dirty look and asked us to wait outside. We came back in, and still had to wait for the table to be cleaned, and whilst finally doing so, the lady rudely pushed past us. We ordered two starters, with 0 plates, which we then had to ask for after. Isn’t that basic knowledge? Do we all eat from the main bowl? Our mains had also arrived, and we had to ask twice for all the drinks we ordered whilst the two ladies were busy gossiping. Even thought we had given our order for the drinks at the start, we were asked to repeat it again after they ‘forgot’. Still no apology, only rude attitude. Absolutely ridiculous and rude customer service, I would advise the two ladies to fix up, you lose customers this way.

Somewhat randomly stopped in here on a visit to Leicester, the food was all very good, the dosa was excellent! As was the thali. My first visit to a vegetarian restaurant and I did not miss the meat at all. Prices all reasonable too

The lunch was okay- delayed service but horrible and rude way to say that the filter cofee was over when we returned back for one for six of us. This was served to other customers at the same time!!! Never again will we visit this place.

Went there yesterday and had poori masala. As good as back home. Then followed by by masala tea which was the best. The service was amazing .

Great food! Best for dhosa, but customer service is very poor. They are not open to suggestions, nor do they acknowledge what is being suggested for improvement. Haven't experienced this sort of service here before and not happy with the way the staff behaved, it was not good customer service or professional at all.

If you ever tried Disappeared elsewhere and you were disappointed, then Dalwhinnie Place is for you. I've myself tried Dosa many places. However, you can not beat the taste here. So, Tasty, affordable, cosy environment. Highly recommended. Service level gone down they are less customer focus and don't even use polite language such as thankyou.

Stumbled across this on a random trip to Leicester. Food was spectacular, very authentic south Indian food. A gem in a street of choice.

Paneer Dosa was amazing and ample amount of filling. Kids loved the cheese dosa and chilli Paneer. Prices are reasonable. Would highly recommend to others visiting Leicester. Thankyou to the Aunty Ji's for cooking the amazing food.

I absolutely love the food here, Dosas are crispy, Idlis are soft. Everything is freshly prepared with authentic taste. It's a little tight with limited seating but i have never had to wait long for a table. My favourite go to for a hearty South Indian meal!

Ordered a takeaway worth £15 Was told only takes cash no card. Card is for order over £30 sometimes is for orders over £20 I think it depends on the mood they are in. Receiving cash is purely to avoid paying tax.

Food is good from here but some people don’t serve properly or like I got hair in sambhar but they treat like it’s normal hair in food is not normal, we just showed up and they didn’t gave any discount to us.

Scammers- for many years likely defrauding HMRC due to their repeated insistence “CASH ONLY”, and shrinking portion sizes despite prices increasing. Half the box was missing from the last order! 😂 Classic Indian scammer behaviour

Sambhar taste isn't authentic and I was given green chutney not mint flavour but same white chutney with green & yellowish color. I thought i should have gone somewhere else for dosa.

Best Dosa Ever Tested. Mysore Dosa. It is a must try. The Paneer Butter Masala was so delicious! The food is great and so is the service.

I have always loved their Mesur masala dhosha. But today when i went the receptionist was very very rude to me. Even when i placed an order she said very rudely “now go and sit there” and there were other incidents which i cant describe it here. But yeah maybe she was having a bad day or something and was rude to the customers.

I went to test their Thali, The food was good. But the Hidden thing is they give you very less Chapatti compared to other foods. And after they will charge almost half a price of Thali for two Chapatti. That's not fair. I don't recommend this place for Thali.

first ever south indian restaurant where you'd be charge for extra chutneys, wherein the chutneys served first time was not even a tablespoon full. food was not at all authentic south indian. staff themselves not enthusiastic serving customers. way back in the restaurant mentioned that they don't accept cards. Had not such great full experience that I'd recommend someone who's looking forward to eat authentic south indian food with good ambience and great customer service.

We've been to Dakshin a few times before, but have been moved to write a review as the food is, in our experience, among the very best Indian food in Leicester. That's a very high bar...if you don't provide high quality Indian food here you soon go out of business...people in Leicester know their curries! Great south Indian vegetarian food (with some northern dishes on offer too), with significant attention paid to herbs and spices...their humble pilau rice is a case in point. The mains and starters are superb in quality, rich and varied in flavours and aromas. We recommend the 'Paneer 65' as a starter! Dosas are as good as you can get! Very good service, clean and unpretentious restaurant. Plenty of local customers...always a good sign! One thing, Dakshin only take cash, so come prepared. If however, you forget, there are a couple of ATMs just a few yards away.

This has been my families favourite place to eat for years, however I am so disappointed in the service received today. We were told certain weee gluten free, however later told this was not certain. My sister has a severe allergy, we should have been told this when we called to ask. Our food was cold and when we mentioned this to staff we were told that it should be warm and were made to feel stupid and were not believe. The sambar recipe was like a green pea soup and food overall was tasteless and cold. I would love to come back for a better experience I hope this is something which is not repeated.

Had an amazing time at this restaurant! The vibes are very inviting as well as the food being delectable. From starters to dessert, everything hit the spot. The staff is super chill and friendly, making you feel right at home. They've got a wide selection of dishes, and each one is like a flavor bomb. Went to Belgrave Rd for the Diwali celebrations. All the restaurants were packed. I saw someone eating something in the street. It looked and smelled great. He told me it was idli sambar, £4.50 from Dakshin. I had to go and get some. It was filling, so tasty. Ate it outside. It was perfect to eat in such bad weather, was filling and warmed me up. Very good value for money. The dosas and other dishes looked amazing. Will definitely be coming back, eating in next time.
