Chose this restaurant for my birthday meal, and was elated by my choice. The numerous twinkling lights as we entered through the door enticed us to want to know more about the place. We were shown to our table, but I cheekily asked if we could move to a 'swing' seat (already allocated). After a small pause, the staff returned to say they would accommodate my request as a birthday treat - I was thrilled. Sadly, after about 30 minutes by bottom was going to sleep and a cushion would have been great 😆. Our server (Katie?) was simply awesome. Her cheery/cheeky personality was a winner. On her recommendation we went for the sharing menu and were delighted by the range of delicacies brought to the table, which was rounded off by a birthday Brownie with candle. The evening just could not have gone better - a truly memorable birthday experience. My only disappointment is that there's no Mowgi in our home City of Southampton - but when we see a Mowgli again, we'll be in like a shot. Thank you for making my birthday so very special. Xx

This was the third Mowgli we have visited and we very much enjoy the menu and the style of eating with smaller plates, so you can try and share a few different dishes. Our server was absolutely lovely and kept us topped up with cold water as it was a very hot evening and we were eating hot curries!

We came here for a special occasion, the food was delicious especially the chaat bombs. However, the service was terrible. We waited ages to order a drink then 25 minutes before we received it. We noticed they were sat on the bar for ages. When we eventually received the drinks the food came at the same time, which we sent back until we enjoyed our cocktails. Shame about this, it was my 60th birthday and had been looking forward to a nice time.

They have very nice Decor, when you enter you feel like, you are some where nice. However the food was big disappointment for us. Didn't meet with their Decor at all. Being an Indian myself I wouldn't recommend any one to go there, we had chickpea and paneer both were tasteless, like no efforts has been made to prepare it. Seems like they opened a tin of tomatoes, added some random spices and paneer. Again not worth for the money at all. A cold sandwich from Tesco taste better than their over hyped street food idea. If I could I woul remove name Indian from their menu.

Great service; explained the menu in detail. Great food, we would like to return and work our way through the menu. Lovely atmosphere Possibly would have like a cushioned seating and warm plates, however we are SO glad we wandered and came across it.

Easy to book online. Good welcome and a lovely ‘cosy’ venue. Because it was our first visit, the menu was explained and as a result, we ordered a variety of dishes. The food was fabulous! Our favourites were the yoghurt chat bombs & the Mowgli sticky chicken. Dinner with a beer & a glass of wine came to about £70. We did have a look at other Indian Street Food restaurants after dinner (on our way to the Bristol Beacon). In our opinion, Mowgli was the best value for money and the prettiest venue. We will definitely be back.

I was looking forward to my meal with high expectations but I have to say the welcome was less than warm! Front of house literally said nothing when we arrived just pointed to our table, came over with menus, plonked them on the table in a pile, made no eye contact and still said nothing - after a while a waitress came to the table who was absolutely lovely. Took our drinks order - glasses for the cold beers had practically come straight from the dishwasher and were hot to touch but she dealt with our request for cold glasses! Food wise the street food plates were very nice but the curry's were underwhelming to say the least. Prawn curry - I was expecting nice fresh prawns but they were clearly frozen and synthetic - the 2 chicken curry dishes tasted exactly the same and the lamb curry wasn't pleasant. If we went back (and it's a big if) I would just stick to the street food plates. Really disappointing sorry guys!

My rating is based on previously dining with my wife at the Cardiff & Cheltenham Mowglis. I was excited to try the new Bristol restaurant (my home town) so booked for a family meal with my wife & sons for my birthday. Firstly the staff were friendly & welcoming. Secondly the food we received was excellent & up to the standard I’d previously experienced. The 3 star rating is due to room for improvement only & hope this will be useful feedback. This was a 6:30pm booking on a Wed night. It was busy but not full when we arrived. Amongst all the food we also ordered a Bunny Chow but received a Holy Chow. Also ordered 2 x sticky chicken & received one. We made the waiter aware but by the time we got the additional one we had finished the meal. My wife ordered a coffee. It never arrived & we had finished the sweet. I chased it up but was told the machine hadn’t been filled up & would take some time. We cancelled the coffee. I noticed a staff member seemingly going out & returning from another nearby shop with alcohol ( so presumably not enough stock that night). The staff whilst attentive seemed to be focused on serving everybody & didn’t seem to have their own areas. This felt like they were rushing around & not dealing with the customers in a controlled orderly manner. I’m sure these are teething troubles only & once up and running a bit longer will be sorted. I certainly wouldn’t want to put anyone off going because as mentioned the food was excellent! I look forward to trying again at some point but will probably try a different Mowgli on our travels first. Good luck with this restaurant. I’m sure it will be a success.

Came here to celebrate my wife's birthday with 2 other couples. Overall experience was excellent. Slight delay waiting for our table to be ready as occupants taking their time in paying. Staff were attentive and very friendly. Decor of the place was lovely. Food was superb however my only gripe, the bunny chow, curry in a big slab of bread. Was meant to be a chicken and potato curry. Was more of a potato curry. Not much chicken. But this didn't take away from the flavours. My wife was wearing a birthday sash, and this was noticed by staff who bought her out a complementary chocolate brownie. A very thoughtful gesture. We will definitely return as many dishes to still try.

Not great. Got the order wrong. Forgot a drinks order. Service was hit and miss and it felt like a bit of a high end McDonalds ‘quickly in quickly out’ type of service vaneered with ‘aesthetically pleasing surroundings’. A model that may work elsewhere but with so many independent food restaurants in Bristol you’d be better off walking down Gloucester Road or Southvile. I was really looking forward to it having followed them and viewed the insta posts but alas the tastes and service didn’t live up to the hype.

A recent and much delayed opening, this has certainly got the bling (or is it Instagram?) factor with plenty of fairly lights and a number of swing chairs. On closer inspection they’re actually done fairly cheaply with just some industrial tubing, rope and planks of wood, but that’s not a criticism and the result is quite effective, if unusual. I’m not sure I’d really want to eat on a swing, but fortunately we were shown to one of the fixed tables. Besides that, it’s an impressive old building, with a very high roof and certainly feels quite special, although certainly not in a formal or stuffy way. Unusually for an Indian there were no lagers (or anything else) on tap, although they did have Cobra in bottles. This worked out ridiculously expensive though, coming in at the equivalent of £9.37 per pint by the time you’ve added on the service charge. As it’s basically tapas (small plates, street food, whatever you want to call it), the dishes come out as and when they’re ready, as is usually the case. The friendly waitress made a few recommendations and suggested two or three courses each. We started off with the Yoghurt Chat Bombs, crisp bread puffs filled with chickpeas, spiced yoghurt, tamarind & coriander and these were a real flavour bomb, probably not something I’d have picked myself, but it was a great start to the meal. After that we really seemed to be waiting a very long time for anything else to arrive, but once it started to, the rest all came out fairly quickly. The Treacle tamarind fries with spiced treacle were really more cubes of potato than traditional fries, but that aside these too were very, very good with all sorts of flavours going on. The Mother Butter Chicken (simmered in a rich, sweet, spiced tomato & yoghurt sauce finished with a gloss of butter) and Aunty Geeta’s Prawn Curry (tomatoes tangled with panch phoron, green chilli, fennel, garden peas & mustard) were both decent enough if unexceptional, and these felt much more like something I’d get in any Indian compared to the previous two dishes. The Gunpowder chicken (Mowgli’s chicken poppers, ginger, garlic, garam masala & golden fried in a chickpea batter) missed the mark a bit we thought, perhaps they’d have been ok with more sauce, but the chicken itself seemed a little dry and not much in the way of flavour. Overall, pretty good, some of the food perhaps didn’t quite hit the spot, but then again, some of it was very good and quite unusual.

Called to book a table and told there was no availability, then checked online and was able to book. When we arrived, we were pointed to a table and went and sat and waited 10 minutes before having to ask for some menus. Ordered mango lassis that were salty, the angry bird was delicious (best part of the meal), lamb chops were very chewy. We were then brought two plates and told they were lamb curry and butter chicken (which we hadn’t ordered), then figured out it was our fish curry which was extremely sweet and the paneer which was somewhat nice. Wouldn’t recommend the cheese bread either literally just cheese on toast and the Indian pickle was so salty it was inedible. Rice and rotis were very underwhelming. Rubbish food and rubbish service. Playing random music, Abba, would’ve been nice to have some traditional music. Won’t be retuning

The best part about this place is definitely the decor. I liked the food as well; we had a bunch of small plates and shared them. I can't speak to how "authentic" it was, since I don't eat Indian food very often, but everything was quite tasty. However, I'm deducting points because the portions were really small for the price, especially the dessert. (I can't remember what it was called, but it was basically three small dough balls with a tiny scoop of ice cream - not worth the money at all.) It was also uncomfortably cold in the restaurant, which made us want to leave as quickly as possible after the meal was over. Service was okay, but it felt like the waiter was trying too hard to "upsell" us, suggesting sharing plates and recommending that we buy more food than we actually needed.
