Lovely restaurant situated in the courtyard, decently priced food etc, after your visit or before the house tour, its advisable to take a bottle of water on the house tour, there is a lift for those with mobility issues, many stairs.

Been to Mount Stuart House many times with friends as it is such a magnificent place. But this time we tried the revised/extended kitchen for a lunchtime snack. Looking for something hot we plumped for some Black Pudding, apple and port sauce rolls as well as some haggis and pork ones as well. The chap serving us said they were delicious and boy was he correct. I have never tasted so good sausage rolls cooked directly on the premises. Didn't get a chance to try their vegetarian ones but the only disappointment is we couldn't but a load of these total away and cook for ourselves.

Wow, we weren’t expecting this ! Well...Mount Stuart goes beyond expectations in every way and certainly with the catering. We were only going in for a cup of tea but couldn’t resist the platter. Lovely to try local foods. They give the names of the producers so we afterwards went to Ritchies of Rothesay to stock up on the cheese ! Service, surroundings, value all excellent. Make sure you include a meal with your plans for this amazing place.

This small restaurant is a gem. I sat with my friend in the courtyard and had a wonderful lunch. The food was fresh and delicious. The staff here are lovely, so warm and helpful. My friend had a special requirement and they went out of their way to help. We had lovely French onion soup, tuna sandwiches and tea. I don't think I have ever tasted better - full marks to the chef. Simple lunch, Sandwiches, haggis and pork sausage rolls with good homemade soup with one slice of lovely bread (although when I asked for another slice for me and my son it was £1... really ?? for two slices of bread when we'd paid for lunch for 4) , nice selection of Halloween themed cakes . We did have to stand about for a couple of minutes after being served while the soup was going cold until a table who had finished took pity on us and got up and helped us clear the table. Think may be our timing clashed with a coach party who were killing time. It was too cold to sit outside.

Ideal after a long walk through the grounds. Quickly served and a good range of basic food. Presumably the old servants dining area with interesting architecture. Prices were fine. The entry is a little hard to spot at first however it is well signposted from the front entrance area. We were puzzled by the photoraphs that mainly seem to be of somewhere else.

When I read some of the other reviews I wonder if we were at the same place! If you want lunch this is not to be recommended. All that was on offer when we were there was soup, toasties and various sausage rolls as well as the various cakes. They had nothing by way of the salads and other platters that were purported ot be sold there. We had one very good soup and one mediocre soup which were each served with a small piece of white bread. No choice. The service was poor. When we went back for tea there was a tea and a coffee on the counter turning cold, which someone had ordered , and no one was making any effort to deliver them to the tables.

Oh dear!!!Restaurant upstairs at visitor centre no longer open to general public.Tiny area downstairs offering hot drinks in paper cups and edibles on paper plates. Very poor cake selection on offer lying at a level where people can brush against and cough all over. No thanks!!!!! In fact the scones had obviously been out all day as well as the fruit loaf which meant hard as bricks. Every year this place is a progressive let down.Last year was bad enough upstairs but now no hot food available at the visitor centre at all.A few years ago the upstairs section was offering fresh, exciting and varied hot food and cakes were lovely. As well as sitting in a place that had lovely views people had a really nice eating experience. It would appear it's all moved to the small courtyard tea room at the BIG house, so we were told, but I am not holding my breath.Such a shame, been to lots of stately homes and the food really good. What is going on at Mount Stuart? Tourists in particular do not expect too much.We were truly shocked as this Estate is the Islands main attraction. Forget it!!!!!!

The favourites for us where the made to order pizzas (my son), and I loved the Ritchies of Rothesay smoked salmon platter - totally delicious and a bargain at 6.50. Choosing Mount Stuart as the venue for our wonderful wedding weekend was the best decision we have made. Any concerns regarding planning, preparation and hosting at meal times were completely eleviated when we were introduced to Jim & Karen. Clearly very experienced and thriving in this environment, the entire food and drinks set up was just overwhelming. To simply thank them for the food and efficiency throughout would be doing them a disservice. From hosting a banquet style BBQ to providing the most innovative afternoon tea, to the finale of our perfect wedding meal - one of the main talking points throughout was not only the food, flavours and thoughtful presentation but Jim & Karen themselves. A breath taking weekend underpinned by food and service which literally has to be experienced to be believed! Thank you and see you again soon!

Yesterday, seven of us, from 84 to 7 years of age visited the Mount Stuart Restaurant in the Visitors Centre. It was a glorious day and with the avenue of azalea and rhododendron in full bloom, the journey in was spectacular. However, the food, drink, waiter attention and ambience simply reenforced the spectacle. The menu was hugely sensible offering locally sourced produce. The temptation of many restaurants to offer a large menu was cleverly avoided by offering three course of three choices per course. Although there wasn't a vegetarian main course, the kitchen was prepared to cater to almost any wish and the menu had vegetarian starter and pudding. Priced at £16 for two courses or £19 for three, this has to be the biggest bargain in town. I can't recommend the Sunday Lunch highly enough. Please book in advance.

We stopped by the Mount Stuart coffee shop for some lunch whilst having a day out at the house and were left a bit disappointed. We all felt the menu had not been particularly well thought out. There was a nice soup on offer but no bread or rolls to accompany it. The only other warm option was a very small pasty. It would be great if there was the option of warm quiches or something like that! What i would say however is that all the food we did have was of good quality. The smoked trout salad with pesto was lovely and the soup was tasty. It was just it was all extremely light so by about mid afternoon we were starving hungry (and we don't have particularly big appetites!)Another point of improvement would be staff knowledge of the food. My mum asked the guy serving at the courtyard tea room about the different types of muffin on offer and he had absolutely no idea. I work in a cafe myself and I think it shows a real lack of effort not to know the types of cake that you are selling (particularly when there were only about 5 on offer!)

We ventured up and were warmly welcomed by the manager Karen who offered us a table straight away despite it being fairly busy. At first glance, the menu was intriguing, with lots of dishes that sounded amazing. We placed our orders and quickly the not so small platters of food started to arrive. Wow! The presentation was fantastic and the flavours and tastes were simply stunning. My favourites had to be the cauliflower tempura and the salted beef. If you visit Bute, then having lunch here is a must. I'd recommend calling in advance to check availability and when ordering, be conservative as the "small plates" are bigger than I expected. It took comments from the dinars before they stopped painting or what ever they doing. There was also a lot of loud drilling going, on the whole very disappointing. I. Having made many visits to the restaurant for lunch over the years, it is sad to observe the deterioration. The menu is limited, unimaginative and the food is very poor, A request for cheese to be melted on a baked potatoe with cheese was refused, served raw, grated. A baguette was flacid, pale and tasteless with skimpy poor quality filling.Chocolate brownies and apple flan were very ordinary and served with poor quality ice creamWe were served by a pleasant young man who needed more training, e.g clearing table between courses and checking our needs rather than being summoned.

Having arrived at Mount Stuart having been disappointed in Rothesay we were delighted to find this attractive and modern eaterie. We all had lentil soup, which was delicious and came with excellent bread. We all followed that with the chef's special burger. Two of the three of us would not normally choose burger but this was absolutely delicious.Service was quick and efficient and we found this to be an excellent light lunch.

Although we were at the "coos tail", Chef helpfully put our soup into takeaway coffee cups. It was delicious! Many thanks.

We enjoyed a delightful lunch at the Mount Stuart. I had never tried Cullen Skink but it was delicious. It is a smoked haddock, creamy soup, much like potato soup but very tasty. I also had a delicious fresh sandwich made with veggies and feta. The service was superb. I highly recommend this restaurant for a yummy gourmet meal.

We were with a coach party and told we were welcome to stay but the seating arrangements were chaotic, the menu overpriced and the sandwich I had was stale!

Great place for tea or coffee with great scones and cakes. Very friendly and obliging staff. Efficient service and excellent dinner on 1 of their Evening dining nights. Good wine. Fun watching the chef prepare and cook everything 20yds away.

We were made very welcome, on this our second visit, by helpful and friendly staff. Not fine dining but good honest and locally sourced food. Portions were just right and the meal was reasonably priced. The arrival of a bus party did test the staff. If in a small group it might be best to look out for this!

Situated on first floor with large windows, this pleasant restaurant is a great place to eat after the long walks available at Mount Stuart or if waiting for the bus. Enjoyable food and good service at a reasonable price.

The menu was imaginative, used local produce and service was quick and polite. The restaurant is worth visiting in its own right- quite unusual for facilities in a major tourist attraction. Make time to try it!

Looking for a light lunch before heading back into town to catch the ferry, Mount Stuart was the perfect place! The food was excellent, the portions were reasonable as was the price. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to visit Mount Stuart itself, but I will definitely be returning!!

Was expecting great quality fresh food . But very disappointed . Looking forward to local mussels but off the menu . Scallops were fresh but the sauce let it down and the bread was stale and expensive . Both in the end had fish and chips , that was two very small pieces of fish each , couldn't hardly see any fish , most likely frozen due to the texture and appearance . Staff were excellent and beer was good

I am giving you an excellent review based on previous visits but arrived Thursday 14th November at 11:15 and it was closed. Website says open at 10:00 and opening time on door says 10:30. Several people left disappointed during my 20min seat on bench. Off to Port Bannatyne for my brunch. Can you update your opening hours on door and social media platforms.

What an absolute find. This place was amazing in every way. The staff are welcoming, friendly and so attentive. The food was out of this world. Would definitely recommend 100% and will be back. Just wish we had found it at the start of our holiday and not at the end

Met up with a friend for lunch today. ALWAYS reliably happy with our meals at The Esplanade over the many years.... But today's young chef was very astute with his skills. We had *Cullen skink, the baguette was fresh and warmed....so often it is not; (it's the little things like this that make you come back,), *fish n chips, and *incredibly chunky steak pie, with a lid rising up to the ceiling I'm my opinion all 3 meals really were the best examples on the island. Well done to: *The Esplanade for keeping up the standards of quality which bring people back * The Chef * The always friendly and helpful waitress 😁 (Love the new curtains and furnishings 😁)
