Mount Fuji Bento Restaurant in Birmingham

Lovely little restaurant with fantastic food and friendly staff. This was our second visit here, and it has been a great experience both times.

Excellent food and service A colleague and I were at a meeting that finished early and needed somewhere for lunch, we found this place by looking for nearby restaurants and we weren’t disappointed. They do a lunchtime offer which was very reasonable £13 for a bento box and a dessert and then £2 for a drink (loads of Japanese soft drinks on the list) I had chicken and eel bento box and my colleague had duck Gyoza bento box. Both were excellent with loads of food and we both had Matcha Cake to finish was very light but incredibly tasty. Will definitely return next time I’m in Birmingham

The service of this place lets it down a lot. The food is always fresh and cooked to order and tastes exactly like it should and to a higher standard than the average Japanese restaurant. There are never enough front of house staff to keep the operation running smoothly which makes the experience a bit of a let down.

This restaurant was recommended by a member of staff at our hotel. The food was good and flavourful, and portions are generous. I had tofu salad and tofu in a sauce with tempura vegetable, and my partner had teriyaki chicken and tofu salad with tempura vegetables. The tofu is wonderful and my partner said the chicken was good too. If you’re not too hungry then get a tofu salad and a drink as it will fill you up. The young woman who served us was polite and friendly and worked hard. We would go back if we travel to Birmingham again.

I never liked any sushi I tried so far but booooy let me tell you, this sushi is absolutely amazing! The ramen is amazing, the Katsu curry is amazing, and the tempura? Absolutely delicious, is my second time coming here and I’ll definitely be coming back. Staff is very polite and you can see the food is freshly prepared! I’d give more stars if possible! I love u guys 🥺🥰🖤

There was 3 of us visiting. We ordered a number of sets of sushi. Each set of sushi was delivered separately with 10 minute intervals as opposed to all together. The food was very delicious but the service left something to be desired.

We came to Birmingham for the first time for work and was looking around for some decent asian food. It was a struggle to find it as we didnt realize it was kinda outside the building. Ordered ramen and a chicken katsu bento set. Was really glad we came because the boyfriend was satisfied with his ramen. Much better than the wagamama crap. We would definitely come again or order it for takeaways but too bad we are back in Devon :(

We had an amazing bento box lunch at Mount Fuji. We weren't planning on going here but whilst walking past we were i truffled and after checking out their menu were knew we had to have lunch there. Honestly it’s not the most fanciest of restaurants but their bento boxes we had was very tasty and fresh!

The waitress was superb and the food delivered well. However I wasn’t a fan of the food. All dishes seemed to have this weird sugary curry sauce (including ramen) and there was a weird combo of cold salad and hot food together. I wasn’t won by the pork either, which was quite chewy. The place does look amazing, it’s a great location and the service is superb. Maybe I got them on a bad day

If you are craving ramen, Mount Fuji is the one. We ordered the chicken ramen and it was fab. Always the biggest fan for katsu curry but the one we ordered (prawn tempura) was not as good as we expected and the portion was not as generous. Great location tho, right at the Bullring. Quick service, simple menu. Highly recommended!

Visited Mount Fuji for a leaving meal for a work colleague. We were able to reserve a table for 12 at lunchtime. Staff were wonderful and the food was delicious; thank you! Will be coming back again to try other food on the menu!

Mount Fuji is located near the Bull Ring Shopping and went there for lunch. Good plenty selection and didn't have to rush to order. We had Sake Japanese wine which was lovely and Gyoza as well as other noodles. Good price and have WC inside.

Me and my girl went there because anywhere else was very busy. We’ve got a table as soon as we get in. The service was fast and the food was so good. Highly recommended and definitely going back 😁😋

Unfortunatly the presentation of the five piece sashimi lacks a lot for a japanese restaurant, plain, no imagination, could have got the same at any place in britain with no knowledge for japanese food presentation

I ate miso ramen with chicken. It was tasty and the chicken was very tender! The gyoza on til tasted good and the broth tasted very good. The place is small and cozy and perfect atfer a day of shopping.

This is a staple of our day when we visit Birmingham. Friendly staff, super service and the food is amazing. Recommend the chicken curry with udon, I start to get withdrawal symptoms if we don’t have it once a month.

Five of us had lunch here today. Chicken teriyaki. And two of us has chicken noodle soup. ALL of us have been sick. The chicken was cheap cuts and fatty. Tasteless also. £95 literally down the drain. Lesson learned never again!

My friend & I visited Mount Fuji as we are both extremely fond of sushi. Ordered several sushi rolls, yet so disappointed as the rice was not compacted therefore unable to pick up and eat, without it falling apart. Made the staff aware and another roll was made (at our expense) only to be exactly the same. How to ruin such a simple dish...really would not recommend this restaurant particularly the sushi to anyone.

I Went to Mount Fuji with my young daughter as she loved Japanese food and we weren’t disappointed. The restaurant is quite small but really welcoming and the staff was lovely. We had ramen and they were fantastic! A really generous portion with lovely flavors and not as over priced as some other “Japanese” restaurant chains. Will definitely go back :-)

I discovered this restaurant a year ago. I was very satisfied the first time and I kept returning whenever I visited Birmingham. The great quality of food and service is consistent and I can really recommend this restaurant.

Food was incredible and served in an authentic japanese style. The only downpoint of it is that it is a bit pricey compared to other japanese places but i believe it is well worth it

This is a very good Japanese canteen style restaurant. I've enjoyed every meal I've had here. If you've never tried it or you're a regular of Japanese food I'd recommend this place, it's lovely!

If you love sushi/Bento and everything Japanese then make sure you pay a visit. Better than any other "fast food" and the staff are great too. Can't fault them and as a foot note we also went to the Cardiff restaurant and that is great too.

good small restaurant by bull ring with a feel of authentic japan. impressively this restaurant takes up very tiny foot print when compared to other restaurants but well functional and the bento food are very good.

This is my second time here, they do very good deal for lunch and fantastic service in here. Will definitely recommend for people who want quick fix for lunch!

I enjoyed a half term lunch here with my children. We all went for the light bento boxes, which were delicious, with a good variety of foods. We left pleasantly full but not too full - perfect for lunch time. Service was mostly very good, although it took a long time for the waiter to bring the bill. I would like to go back soon and try some sushi.

I was really disappointed with our (mercifully brief) experience this afternoon. We arrived after the lunchtime rush to see lots of empty seats and nobody waiting. This was good news for us as I have a disability which, whilst it allows me to walk, means I am not able to comfortably or safely use the high stool/counter arrangement that makes up some of the seating in the restaurant. This is no problem as there are also regular seats and tables. Today there weren't any people sitting at them and there was plenty of space. As the waitress automatically went to seat us at the counter, my friend said could we please sit at a regular table. The waitress vanished and an older man, presumably the manager, came out to seat us, again heading for the counter. I asked if we could please sit at the regular tables because I have a disability and find the high stools difficult. He immediately said no because those tables are for families. There were no people waiting, no signs to indicate that this was the case, and the main lunchtime had passed. I made that point politely and he said....no. I was quite shocked and asked if he was basically refusing to serve me because I am disabled and got no response, so we left. Really taken aback by this attitude, and my friend (who has been there several times and who was seated repeatedly, recently, at the regular tables with no questions asked because she was pregnant) was very surprised. I'm sure the food is lovely, but the discriminatory attitude is very disappointing. I will be raising a formal complaint but wouldn't want anyone else to experience this potentially humiliating and upsetting approach to disability.

Having frequented the conveyor belts at Yo! Sushi all too frequently, I decided to try independent restaurant Mount Fuji just outside the Bullring, specialising in traditional Japanese Bento.I opted for an early meal and walked straight in at 5.30 and was seated without having to wait. The service was a little rushed despite not being busy, but nothing to complain about.I had the Chicken Teriyaki & Tempura Bento box which comes served with a sushi selection. I’m a great lover of sushi, but I must admit although the fish was fresh and clearly good quality, it wasn’t the most exciting sushi I’ve ever had, with only cucumber rolls and salmon sashimi, so I was somewhat disappointed.The Bento box however was a vast improvement! The chicken tempura was light and crispy on the outside, but juicy and delicious on the inside, just how it should be, and the tempura vegetables were crisp and light. The Chicken Teriyaki was defnitely the highlight for me though. Moist and delicious chicken and a really fresh tasting sauce that packed a punch with every bite. There was also a selection of vegetables and pickles including green beans with a sesame dressing and Japanese vegetables in what tasted like a smoky barbecue sauce, all washed down with a bottle of Kirin Ichiban. The box came with steamed rice and dipping sauce, which were both equally good.I loved the light and airy decor and the fact I could people-watch from the window, and the actual boxes themselves were really cute. I’d definitely visit again, but probably for a lunchtime meal and I’d opt for a box rather than the sushi. I’m also tempted to go back and try their famed green tea which they grow themselves in Japan. They even put it in their desserts!Plus if you’re working in the city centre, they have a loyalty card you can pick up too. Everyone knows the great health benefits of Japanese food, so if you’re after a healthy and satisfying meal, I’d definitely recommend Mount Fuji.

My wife and I popped in hoping for quick service and good food. We weren't disappointed! Set out in a canteen informal style with stools and counters or table and chairs there is a nice atmosphere. We ordered a Bento box each one fish one chicken and both were delicious. My chicken thighs were crispy coated and I had four of them in my box. The rice was suitably sticky to make chopstick work easy. My wife's fish was also really nice. Service was pleasant but not over the top. I recommend the tea to help it all go down.

Excellent food always hot and fresh. I have tried the sashimi, tempura, gyoza and udon soups so far in my couple of recent visits and all have been first class. Lunch bill each time well under £20 a head including drinks. This place is now top of my list in Birmingham.

Bento boxes are great and they do lunch time meals. The fried noodles I was not so fond of but I highly recommend the bento boxes. The food is fresh and service is good. They offer a choice of authentic japanese drinks and the price overall is not too expensive.Seating may not be to everyone's taste but is the style of japan. It can get abit cosy but I did not go at peak times.

Was delighted at the quality of the service - but there was one problem regarding the variety of food on offer. No cheese. No pasta. Not even salt and pepper. There was soy sauce, though. Also, it's too expensive yo. Paid like £7 for a bit of cucumber wrapped in seaweed with some rice. What???...
