Pie and mash good old traditional serving, had three pies and mash and a drink £12 thought that was a fair price if I’m honest. Good service hot food, and friendly staff

Pie mash excellent. Staff very friendly. If others dont like the variety of food they should go to a cafe. Leave the rest of us to enjoy our pie mash. The traditional way.

Cold dirty seats and tables, crockery looks like it needs to go on a hot wash. Poor quality bread eggs etc. And to top all this a rude pseudo suffe London attitude, could and should be so much better.

2 prawn jacket potatoes came absolutely SWIMMING in mayonnaise sauce. Was it to hide poor potatoes or very few prawns I wonder? One taste, it was inedible. Took them back to the counter, the lady said ‘Next time ask for not much sauce’, I’ve never had to do that before ANYWHERE. Then she came to our table and said customers come in every week and love it! No offer of anything else, no offer of a refund. As though it was our fault. Extremely poor customer service. We will not be back a second time and will spread the word.

Stopped of at motties while in town shopping and was surprised at the range of food available. My daughter had pie and mash with cold drink, my wife had a full breakfast with coffee, and I went for their mixed salad with tea. All were served quite prompt considering the amount of customers already seated. With friendly staff that were having a general chat with everyone there it felt although we were amongst friends. Would highly recommend this Cafe for a stop over. The only down side I could see was that it is quite packed making it difficult for anyone using a mobility aid ie: Zimmer/wheelchair although staff were happy to move furniture around to accommodate.

I went to the counter and ordered, they said “it’s the best breakfast in Swanley” and they didn’t lie. Bacon, sausage, beans, mushroom bread, tea and bubble... oh the bubble! It was gorgeous! All good quality ingredients and all prepared just like mum would do. It’s got an old fashioned lo-fi feel with plain wooden benches. No major frills or mood lighting, no over the top designer gear, that might add to the price of the meal. It’s like an old fashioned traditional pie and mash shop. The service is also old fashioned - in that they take the time to talk to you, keep you happy, welcoming with a “darling” and a “sweet”. It’s like stepping into the good old days of good service and good food and has me quite nostalgic. I’ll be coming back for another best breakfast in Swanley.

We’ve been here many times and always thoroughly enjoyed their pie and mash. The staff are always cheerful and helpful and although the serving plates are usually cold they will heat them for you if you ask. They also do a good selection of other meals but I cannot review them as we only go there for the pie and mash. Decor is basic, with wooden bench seating and in the summer have tables and chairs outside.

More interested in answering the phone or talking to people in the kitchen and concentrating on the customers. Get the impression you are in the way and you shouldn't really be bothering them, seem friendlier to locals could do with a custom skills course under their belt. Pie & mash somewhat now expensive so at least like the service to match the price...

I guess Swanley will never be high on the list for anyone to go to, but this café in the centre of the pedestrianized area come highly recommended. The front of it is one large window and inside the walls are tiled, as is the floor, and there are plenty of framed photographs of local scenes on the walls, along with six large mirrors. My meal, an all-day breakfast was quickly served (and the coffee was huge) and there was plenty of food on the plate. The tomatoes were fresh, the bubble and squeak well-cooked and the sausages contained meat and not "filler" (always the sign of a decent café!!!) and did not explode when cooked. The food was very good and the café was clean. My only small moan is the seating which are is the seating, which is made up of wooden stiff-backed upright chairs/benches and it is a bit cramped. That aside this café come highly recommended and the prices were reasonable too.

What is there to say.... it was an experience. First time in a Pie and Mash Shop. Often wondered about the jellied eels, pie and mash. The mash was ordinary and slightly cold. The eels were non existent (so maybe it was a blessing in disguise), the pie was slightly charred - the mince was real beef and the liqueur nicely congealed with no real flavour. I am not an expert so I have no idea what and how it should be. I got the feeling that it was all delivered in and the ladies simply reheat and dish up. The actual place was a little run down and the booths were to American for such a British set up. However, what I have to say is immaterial because it was heaving with people. All of them happy and content, most of them in for a chat and a good ole laugh. So what do I know???

Ok let us first talk about the elephant in the room. Mottie's is not much to look at, the decor is dated and you sit in home built booths (American Diner Style). For me this is not an issue and adds to its non pretentiousness. On the other hand it has a 5* food and hygiene grading which some major restaurant/food chains struggle to achieve (go look at beefeater London road). The food is fresh, traditionally English and very yummy. It is not a fast food restaurant by any stretch of the imagination but if you want freshly prepared food that is good quality it takes a little time (10 - 15 mins). I had a breakfast sandwich of bacon, egg & mushrooms on fresh, soft hand cut bread that was absolutely delicious. Fresh cooked bacon over pre-cooked is a no brainier. The egg was cooked just right so the yolk was still soft and gooey. The mushrooms like butter melting in the mouth. All in all just a very good simple restaurant serving really good food - what more do you want?

Mottie's Pie and Mash shop is what I imagine English folk would call down home cooking. There is nothing fancy about the food or the restaurant. The menu offers b'fast and other lunch items but as the name suggests pie and mash is the mainstay. The choice of pie is one pie or two pies. They are all beef pies and they are good. I like mine with gravy but everyone else in my family loves the liquor. Good value for solid meal.

It was a lovely day for a trip out to a country pub and our daughter fancied the look of this one. I have to say the place has been renoved beautifully, inside and out. Inside was nearly empty - maybe people had already read the online reviews. We didn't really fancy anything on the menu as we only wanted a light lunch like a sandwich and there weren't any listed. The 3 soups didn't sound like they'd be homemade so we all went for the sausage roll with apple sauce. Despite the lack of people, the food took ages to arrive. When it eventually turned up, 2 of the 3 sausage rolls were burnt black. Mine was OK so I started on it. It was very dry and tasteless so I tried the applw sauce but that was thin, sloppy and tasteless. My husband was furious after the long wait and took the food up to the bar to complain saying it was disgusting. The server offered to refund our 3 meals immediately. Avoid this place if you want to eat good food!

Our first visit after the renovation. Much improved without removing features of the beautiful original building. Very busy (it was a Sunday) we enjoyed a small plate from the menu which was good. Tables are a little cramped and on this occasion most customers were accompanied by a dog/s. We like dogs but are not keen on eating with a dog a few inches from our food! (customers with dogs on laps) Would return but would be careful with seating arrangements.
