Our favorite bar of our two week UK trip! Unique cocktails and great service, plus the entrance is really fun!

Stumbled across this place by accident, was out for cocktails with my partner and ended up here by chance. Lovely place with really good atmosphere and lovely attentive staff who know their stuff about a good drink. The place is downstairs and could be easily missed but would definitely recommend, deserves the hype. Price varies depending on how many cocktails you’re planning to have. Personally haven’t tried the food but there was bar snacks on the menu.

We actually visited the boutique in Fenwick's. Fantastic cocktails, great service.

Really nice venue and great choice of cocktails. The service was excellent. I have deducted a star however for the music being played later in the evening. Some chilled out music would have been much more in keeping with the vibe of the venue rather than 50 cent!

My best friend just tried to enter these premises but was barred by the horrid bouncers at old George. They tried to stop my best friend from entering on the premise she was gay. Horrid. Don’t enter.

I came here with my friend for her birthday, we had some lovely margaritas. Mike was attentive and friendly and was really conscious about allergens. This was probably the best service we’ve ever had at a bar; we had a great time and loved the vibe, would definitely recommend.

Easily the best cocktail bar in Newcastle. Perfect for a couple amazing cocktails on a date night! My girlfriend was very impressed by the espresso martini. And our server Christian was a genuine delight.

I have been here before and used my international driving license to get in it was a great experience however this time around I unfortunately encountered 2 racist members of staff that ended up saying something along the lines of you need a British passport to enter. They have a policy about not accepting BRP’s (unclear cause my friend with an expired brp was allowed to go in).

Music let it down, it didn't match the bar theme. Gangster wrap in the early evening isn't a good vibe.

Seriously the margaritas are worth going for alone, before you even take into account the epic music and of course, Anthony. We miss you Anthony, we seriously considered becoming alcoholics so we could drink margaritas whilst listening to Josh Homme with you!

Beautifully decorated venue with an amazing selection of high-quality drinks. Servers were friendly and attentive, some of the best cocktails we have ever had - every single one we tried was delicious, and you could tell had been made with care and attention to detail. Highly recommend the voodoo zombie and mi casa batanga! Will definitely be visiting again for another lovely experience.

Incredible basement bar - a great range of beautiful cocktails with both vegan and non alcoholic options, my favourite was the peaches and cream, and my partner was greatly enjoying the various sours available. The staff were exceptional and elevated our experience, we were a walk-in and stayed until the end of our night! We will be back.

It is the best Cocktail bar! I still have to try some food. Looking forward to be there again!

Me and my mam went for their cakes and cocktails afternoon tea which was £50 for 2 people and it was amazing, it included unlimited cocktails that came in adorable tea cups and 4 different cakes to eat; there wasn’t a drink that we didn’t like, the cakes were delicious, the place was beautiful, the staff were very attentive and friendly, it was an amazing experience that we hope to have again soon!

Found this place down a hidden backstreet which looked really cute. We ventured down and found a beautiful little hidden gem. The staff were so friendly and attentive. One of the nice espresso martinis with a great selection of drinks.

First time at Mother Mercy last night for a birthday gathering... It took half an hour to have our first drink delivered to the table. It was so cold, that we all sat around in our booth, shivering, with our coats on. After around 45 minutes, at 9.15pm, the place just emptied. No one there but our table and one more. The drinks are extortionate, massively overpriced for what you get in your glass (they were nice, but £10 for 20mls of liquid is not cool, sorry folks) and the menu was extremely limited in terms of other options. For a match day in town, the rest of Newcastle was heaving. Everywhere except this bar. So disappointing. Nice decor, but a total wash out for our first visit. I doubt we will ever go back.

A hidden gem of a cocktail bar just off the hustle and bustle of the Cloth Market. Delicious cocktails, very knowledgeable bartenders and great service; what more could you want? I’d recommend prebooking a table at busier times.

We visited for date night and loved the whole experience. From the neon staircase to the huge choice of unique cocktails, this is one to add to your bucket list! Recommending the Peaches & Cream as well as the Bourbon Biscuit Old Fashioned, you won’t be disappointed :)

We'd booked a table and were eventually shown to a tiny slab of timber with high chairs in a deserted corridor. My draught beer was 2/3 of a pint. Waiter hadn't a clue what was going on, but tried his best to be ingratiating. My wife liked her marshmallow cocktail. Music was mainly '70s and chosen by someone with no taste or expertise. We weren't welcome and got the message straightaway.

I wouldn’t describe the drinks as anything special, and are slightly overpriced. They don’t have your usual ‘basic’ cocktails, therefore finding one you know you’ll like will be slightly more difficult; I ended up ordering one which sounded nice but wasn’t, and wasted £8.95 The staff were, however, really friendly, and made the visit enjoyable. Complimentary water upon arrival was a beautiful touch There was also quite a nice atmosphere in the cosy-sized establishment. I would consider returning

Loved the massive warm welcome received. The cocktails were inventive and delicious with just the right amount of quirky theatre. The complementary water was a nice touch and the venue intimate and cool. Can’t recommend enough! Felt like you were in NYC not the Bigg Market! 🤣

Brilliant place to grab some cocktails and spend time with friends. Really good music and with the booking system it is never overcrowded. You have your own table and table service so no waiting your turn at a bar. Clean and relaxed atmosphere.

Slick cocktail bar with smooth drinks and silky service

The cocktails here are absolutely amazing and well worth the price. Service was wonderful and we kept getting the water carafe topped back up without even asking.

Olivia aka Liv, was an absolute joy she brightened up my night. She was kind, informative, and funny. She served witha passion as well as serving looks and serving overall. She let me know about allergens, and gave recommendations which helped me a lot. I am definitely coming back.

Nice bar, bit different, can be quite easy to miss as it's underground right before you walk into the Old George but access is in the Old George courtyard, cocktails are nice but a bit on the pricey side. Worth a drink in here, the old george and Pumphrys.

Love coming here. Came most recently and had to wait maybe 5 minutes for a table on a busy Saturday night and the staff couldn't have been more apologetic about it. Staff were attentive and happy to give us reccomendstions. Even got free shots from one bartender which was a lovely suprise 😊😊

Hidden away in the side streets off the Bigg Market, a small basement bar for upmarket fancy cocktails and other drinks. Cosy tables in alcoves with low lighting and loud music, attracting a youngish crowd.

Very atmospheric, great interior and high quality drinks. One of the highlights of Newcastle. Definitely a place to go to!

Nice cocktails but not very strong.... Still felt sober after 4, which shouldn't happen IMO. Service was great and there's a fair selection but some of the drinks felt a bit repetitive (rose featured quite heavily!) Great that you can book a table and just relax for a couple of hours without moving. Everyone is seated too so it's not crazy busy, which I appreciated.

Lovely place, classy decor, nice menu. Staff attentive and helpful - I found one cocktail (Marshmellow Kiss) too sweet to drink and it was replaced at no cost. My only critue would be that some waiters ened to pay better attention when serving drinks - our waiter was serving them wayy too fast, served one half spilled and didn't present the drink properly (there was some decor on the side he didn't bother taking off the tray and took back with him).

Had an amazing evening! Made a reservation for Saturday evening to surprise my friends by asking them to be my bridesmaids. Max was super friendly and attentive and brought us a round of shots on the house to celebrate! Iona was also amazing prior to my booking with any questions I had. Will defintely be returning!

Excellent vibe in this little tucked away bar. Brilliant mixologists here taking pride in their work and making stunning drinks. The navy and pink theme is very cool and the music is really unique for Newcastle - just wish there was an area for dancing! When we were there it was like remixed r&b and hip hop. Really got me in the mood for a good night out. My mates fav place for drinks in the toon. Prices are fair at like 7-10 for generous cocktails. Great table service too. Recommend! But don't too many of you go 😂

Brilliant cocktail bar in a cellar below the big market. The Biscoff Old Fashioned is a must try, one of the best cocktails I've ever had!

What a great place! Lovely staff who took the time to talk to us about cocktails and give us great recommendations. The cocktail menu allows you to switch out for non alcoholic spirits - inclusivity that is often hard to come by. We had a great experience. I highly recommend this venue!

Had an incredible night at Mother Mercy. The smell they pump into the venue was a little overpowering at first but you soon get used to it. Loved the decor, the music, the table service and all the cocktails are incredible. Great flavour and not over powering. I highly recommend Mother Mercy for a night out.

This cocktail bar is hidden downstairs off cloth market and you'd be forgiven if you didn't know it was there. It's one of the best cocktail bars in Newcastle with a great selection of cocktails and a bustling atmosphere. There have been times where the music has been so loud I have only been able to hear the person sat next to me talk and not been able to engage with the whole group, so for large groups it can be hit and miss but if there's just a couple of you or looking to take someone for a date, this is a place you should definitely check out.

I visited two nights in a row with both my work and housemates and both times we had the best service and laughs. Feels like you have known the staff a lifetime. In particular we spoke to Daniel, a lovely gentleman with a great sense of humour- kept us happy and in good spirits our entire visit. Two other young ladies (one floor in particular and one bar) whose name we didn’t catch were also lovely! Everyone will bend over backwards to give you a great experience. Great drinks, great service 🥰

Lovely little hidden gem!! My partner and I ended our date night here, although we didn’t have any cocktails (a little too many from the previous place) we had an amazing and prompt service, the most warm and welcoming staff who checked on us frequently, but not too much, and the bottle of water provided for the table as soon as we sat was a lovely touch. The atmosphere is incredible, the music was right up our street, old R n B bangers!!! If you’re looking for an intimate, one to one date night destination, I would absolutely recommend and we will be back!!

My wife and I visited for the first time as we were out celebrating our anniversary. The customer service was excellent especially when our waitress found out it was our anniversary and brought us over a complimentary glass of fiz. The cocktails were some of the best we have had and the music was right up our street. All the staff were really friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our drinks. We will definitely be back.

My favourite place for a night out! Cocktails are out of this world, the DJ is excellent, amazing atmosphere and the staff are incredible. It's also LGBTQ friendly, I go with partner alot and we are always treated so well!
