The Bear and Barrel in Newcastle upon Tyne

No one to welcome us when we arrive. Drinks are served after 15 min. The food is average, potato boats bathed in oil, the sauce and the meat were lovely. Cold in the room, as the outer door is always left open. Overall an ok experience, but will not return.

Worth a visit. Wonderful food. Dog friendly.

Apart from some ambient music this compact pub is all about catching up with friends. No football, no loud music, just a chance to have a drink and a natter. If you want a really lively pub go to the Toon, otherwise I would highly recommend this place for friendliness and general clientele.

Excellent local cafe/bar and a real asset to the estate Visit on a Friday lunchtime and it is always busy. Scones and toasties as well as coffee are spot on and service is excellent Return on an evening and there is a brilliant atmosphere with good selection of well kept beers featuring local brewers as well as craft beers and wines and spirits. Good for just a drink or a pre meal drink before visiting the Raj Bari, Clay Oven or Chapel House Chippy. Staff are brilliant and friendly Music on a Sunday afternoon you need to get there early as it is so popular. Just an excellent local bar. Dog friendly too. Just need to give the breakfasts a go!

Love this dog friendly pub. Food until 3 and scones or toasties after that. Bar snacks available. Lovely owner. Beautiful decor. Hidden gem.

Pint was fresh and cold, place very clean also modern and aesthetically pleasing environment, always looks busy on an evening when passing so can imagine it’s hard to get a table, luckily it’s quiet lunch time on a Friday, peaceful pint at a fair price, can’t ask for much more. Will be back to try the food next time as the menu looks damn good 👏

What can I say this is an excellent place the staff are always so welcoming, the food and service is always excellent, highly recommend it to everyone.

Had a lovely full English yesterday 😊 it was really good ~ cooked to order so lovely and fresh just as you want it. My sister had the vegetarian option and she really enjoyed it especially the sausages! The Bear and Barrel is a true little hidden gem and we would well recommend a visit! ❤️😊😊❤️

Super cute, came in for some hot chocolates and coffees this afternoon and was so impressed by the cleanliness/atmosphere/friendliness of the staff :) and the drinks were very tasty too of course! I don’t live in the area anymore but I wish I did as I’d be a regular here 🥰

First time in and very glad I went. More than just a micro pub, also serves food, coffee, tea, scones and soon opening for breakfast. Get yourself along if you live near, It's a great edition to the area. Meet new people, drink new beer.

Can’t see why a pint of morretti costs £5.20 and a half is £2.70 Which is £0.20 more please explain the bear and barrel pricing

Went on new year's eve what a brilliant night we had entertainment wastop notch food brilliant and the hosts were great will be back next year if we don't go away

First time but what a find lovely little pub live music on a sunday 4pm till 6pm would love to go Nye but fully booked but they have taken our number I case anything changes fingers crossed

I love this place, very friendly, relaxed, nice decor, a fabulous place to catch up with friends through the day and they serve the best coffee and fabulous cheese scones. I’ve not had a meal here yet but what I’ve seen being served looks amazing! Sunday’s they have live music from 4-6pm, there’s always a good turn out and it’s always been a great night. No food on a Sunday evening but there’s a lovely Indian restaurant next door for anyone wanting to making a night of it.

A fantastic addition to the area. The decor and ambience are fantastic and welcoming. Very cheerful and friendly staff. Great selection of drinks and the food is top notch too.

A nice little spot to pop in for a quick drink. It was snug and quite lively, which was j expected on a Thursday night. Friendly staff and a good drinks selection. Definitely recommended

What a lovely little bar/cafe, very friendly staff, tables cleaned as soon as they are vacated. Nice atmosphere with unusually un annoying customers, tried a few nibbles, will definitely be back to try more. Shame about the view out the window but it is where it is.

Finally got around to checking out the newest micro bar in our area. Having something close by (live in East Denton) so only a small walk. Staff were lovely, got to check out the menu & we will be back to work our way around it! Plus we look forward to a cheeky trip for breakfast as well. Great ale selection, and lovely atmosphere. Really liked the decor as well.
