Mother Hubbard's Famous Fish & Chips in Leicester

We ordered from this place via uber eats and ordered keema pizza. It didn't taste right, so we called the restaurant and they said it was beef. We asked why this was not listed anywhere as my husband does not eat beef...and they hung up on us! I looked at their menu and it does not state beef. Keema is lamb and should be listed as beef if not...the restaurant chooses to clarify it's pepperoni is beef when this is generally always made with pork and beef and yet do not specify their keema is beef despite it being lamb normally. Not impressed at all and no wonder has a 2* hygiene rating.

Ordered at 5:20 on JustEat. Delivery time advertised as 6:15 latest. I am currently writing this at 6:40 as I’ve had to cancel my order as there was no one to deliver my order. Called on the shop on the phone shop is full of people who cant speak english and manager is rude on the phone saying its not their fault. It clearly is when the business decided to choose JustEat as a delivery outlet knowing that they are unreliable with drivers etc. Avoid ordering from this shop period.

Ordered fish and chips for family they absolutely loved it. Very fresh and tasty. The fish was nice: and crispy and not Oily at all. Would highly recommend.

First time Ive tried this chippy, was very good. It located about a 2 min walk up London Road from the railway station. First thing you notice is how bright and clean this places is, all surfaces are tiled and they have lots of very large old photos of Leicester on the walls. The chips were good, I would use again.

Maybe it’s my fault for getting a burger from a fish n chips shop but it was nasty and I threw the rest of it away. I contemplated making myself puke after. The chips it came with were also bad.

Ordered fish chips twice chips were ok but fish tasted like it was old and dry batter was horrible so very disappointed this was my first and last order had better fish in weather spoons had two mouthfuls had to throw away waste of money

Actually it was 51 minutes late. Which means my food was cold when it turned up. I should be allowed my money back for that. Thanks a bunch

Placed an Uber order this evening for the large fish and chips and 2 pies. The fish was the most awful chip shop fish I have ever eaten! It was grey, and smelled and overcooked. I am shocked at such awful quality from a fish be chip shop. Absolutely shocking how bad the fish was and will never eat anything from this shop again!

The "large" size fish portion was vast! It was thick, meaty - and arrived piping hot. Thank you.

The fritters weren’t cooked enough and were hard. Don’t know what happened with the fishfingers as the fish was also hard. Food awful, straight in the bin. We have ordered from here before and the food was okay. But today it was awful. Don’t think we’ll be ordering again.

Amazing place. Great fish and chips. However the fish bites portion has gotten a little smaller and less crispier then it used to. It's still a great place for fish and chips though!

The manager here is honestly disgraceful. He cant communicate and treat customers with respect, all he knows is how to argue and have attitude. I hope your shop fails with this attitude.. it should be a basically necessity managers are able to speak proper and understand what im saying

The fish got me food poisoning. How can they sell that nasty fish . People must be high on something to go to this shop . I felt sick straight after . Not worth going back . Very disappointed. Hope the manger see this and fixes up

My food was stolen by the delivery driver

Me and two other were the only people in the shop but yet it still took them 40mins to make fish bites. They didn’t even realise until we reminded them that the order had been a while. They offered no apology and simply didn’t care. They are not professional and the food is genuinely disgusting. Save your money and your time. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!

Grey old fish. Soggy battered and not crispy and golden like a good fish and chips. Mushy peas from a can and is artificial coloured and flavoured literally fluorescent green and looks like play dough. Cold and soggy chips. Unacceptable

Not great. The batter on the fish was soggy, I said I wanted plenty of salt and Vinegar which to them meant 1 packet and I also asked for curry sauce which I was charged for but they didn't give it.

Ordered fish and chips on two occasions recently to take for family back in London, they absolutely loved it. Very fresh and tasty. The fish was nice and crispy and not Oily at all. Would highly recommend.

Chips were cold. The rest of the food was OK temperature wise but the chips were very cold not packaged properly to keep them hot. Other food was nice.

Truly, Captain Haddock’s are a ‘take-away’. That is, they take away from your order. Legally, there is a word that describes taking money and not providing a good/service in return. However, I hesitate to use that word because I genuinely don’t believe the poor service is the result of malice, rather, it is the result of incompetence. I made the mistake of ordering from here again (the final time). I ordered gravy as a sauce on the side. It didn’t arrive. In the past, I’ve ordered gravy and, without being instructed, they’ve put salt and vinegar on the fish and chips. Not realising this, I’ve poured on the gravy, which then ruined the entire meal. Today, anticipating a repeat performance, I stipulated: ‘no salt and vinegar on anything’, which I ordered (for clarity that I shouldn’t have to give) only for the gravy not to arrive! As for the quality of the food itself, this fish and chip shop simply would not survive in the more discerning North. Check and double check your orders and notes! Haddock: the name of the Captain of the Titanic of the Friday night takeaway.

We ordered fish and chips, battered sausages, a variation of pies, curry sauce and some mushy peas. The service was excellent - very friendly and efficient. The food was scrumptious- enjoyed every bite of our meal. Fish was cooked to perfection - nice and crispy batter and the fish was so nice and flakey. Chips were flavoursome and covered in plenty of salt and vinegar.

Young Asian girl on the front desk, it’s incredibly hard to understand her on the phone, had to repeat my order 3 times and she still got it wrong, constantly spoke over me that’s probably why it was wrong.

Disappointed with the fish. Last couple of visits the batter has always been uncooked on the inside. End up eating the fish without the batter. Don't think I will be going back.

Great service and customer friendly. Put an order in over the phone and was quick to serve up especially it being a big order. When we picked up the staff were so helpful and friendly and even gave us some extras. Would definitely go again.

Fish can be a bit hit and miss.

As someone who isn't a massive fan of typical chippy fish. Captain Haddock offers the best fish burger in town. Freshly prepared with a small portion of chips, a great Value for money and as usual the customer service is always great.

Tried the fish ‘n’ chips from here and they were amazing. If you want a snack then I would recommend the £1:50 chip cone with salt n vinegar yummm.

Used this place twice recently and was impressed on both occassions-portion sizes are great, service was quick and the food was hot and tasty. The oik used for frying was nice and fresh. I will use this place again.

Hi, brought a king size fish & chips yesterday for family,£17,95 approx, like other reviews fish was poor quality- black streaks running through, thin piece of fish, probably 30 % batter, chips were reheated and not fresh. Please think twice we all have a stomach upset after eating this meal. Will not be going back ever!

I ordered a small fish and chips for takeout and they didn’t even give me the chips!!! I only received fish in a box. How ridiculous.

They've gone completely downhill since the name got changed. we always come across stinky grey fish and thought I'd give it another go and reiterated it to them that this time I'd like to have a fresh fish. Once again here we have an almost black fish. Definitely won't be going again.

Mother Hubbard's is the best fish and chips around . Been coming since it opened. And the food never disappoints is always excellent .And the staff are always helpful and very friendly .Well done .

Fish was fantastic and loads of chips

a group of 8 older people rang through an order and picked it up. it was ready and well packed and everyone thought their fish was lovely. a few people had children's portions and were very happy with them. I had a vegetable pasty and chips meal (drink included) but found the pastry hard, however it is good value and as I organized the evening and everyone was very happy then so was I.

This place was amazing when it first launched, but it's now very hit and miss. Sometimes amazing, sometimes okay, sometimes not so good. The most annoying thing is they stopped giving salt and vinegar packets on deliveries - As you can see from the balsamic I found in my cupboard.

Thought I would have some chips to warm me up on a night shift, £1.50 for a reasonable amount, the lady that served me was very nice and welcoming and served me straight away, the chips Though wow completely tasteless, they were starchy and borderline cooked if it wasn't for the salt and vinegar would of thought I had lost my sense of taste. Thanks but I'll go up the road next time

The most terrible fish and chips I have ever had. Batter was soggy, fish was grey, the sausage was anemic, chips a mix of hot and cold- disgusting! Avoid at all costs, much places for better for quality.

Quality of fish has gone downhill since they changed from Mother Hubbards. Lots of dark grey parts in fish, doesnt taste fresh.

Food delivered was excellent except for the pie, which was not the one I ordered.

Portion size of scampi was small for the price. Also have to pay extra for sauce.

6 meals all of the chips had black/green pieces in so potatoes used were either cheaply purchased or gone over use by date. The fish was of chicken texture and of grey colour and this was not the skin! Batter was ok. Pie was flat and with cheap, grisly meat inside. Complete waste of £65. If lived more locally would have returned the lot. Why cash only in this day and age? Tax fiddle perhaps? Never again.

The service is terribly slow, we ordered a very small order but had to wait 25 minutes. We ordered 2 sausages, and were not told that they were chicken sausages. When advertising “sausages” you would think they are pork. You should’ve stated that they were chicken, because they are absolutely disgusting. You have to pay 25p for a tiny bit of ketchup. Never coming back here again.
