We are regulars in as much as, that every time we visit Herne Bay we go to Mortimer's for lunch/dinner. At least 6-7 times a year. Twice last month. You can't beat the food, service or atmosphere.

Just how a coastal cafe should be, loved it.

Had a Xmas dinner it was beautiful a proper home cooked roast no wonder its been voted the best roast in Kent .Well only because they didn't taste mine lol

Apart from the screaming child which the owners couldn't help but which disturbed me greatly I found the service lacking as I wasn't told there's a specials board, I decided to have leek and potato soup which I think was made with the green bits of the leek due to the colour, it had been puree'd so there could have been anything in there and to be frank it was so strong tasting I couldn't eat it. I'd have had something nice from the specials board if I'd known about it. The waiter was cheerful but the rest of the staff that I saw acted like they didn't want to be there. I won't be going back.

Large breakfast very worth the price

Typical breakfast/brunch/lunch café with plenty of choice. Roast dinners were also available when we visited on a Wednesday. Everywhere was clean. Our food was excellent. The portions are quite large and smaller sized meals are available - I don't know if they reduce the price of them as I didn't get the bill this time! I don't believe they have an alcohol licence. Beware - the plates are screaming hot and will keep your meal hot until the end, when they say "don't touch the plates" - don't...

Celebrated a team bonding evening at Mortimers. What a great time we all had. Karaoke, a pop quiz and the most delicious ploughman's platter ever! Staff worked so incredibly hard to make our evening special. Wine was flowing, vocal chords busting, liads of laughter and great memories had by all. 5 star experience. Thank you all so much.

We had lovely Sunday roasts today at Mortimer's in Herne Bay. Thoroughly enjoyed them.

Once again a fabulous meal, with first class service. We have been visiting Mortimers for a few years now and can honestly say, we have never had a bad meal or service, staff are always happy and polite, nothing is a problem, would never dream of going anywhere else. Keep up the good work xx

Having just moved to the area, I'm so happy to find this lovely clean and friendly family run café. Firstly the food is freshly cooked and you get plenty. The first visit I had the slimming world's breakfast, I mentioned I had a wheat allergy and was pleasantly surprised they have gluten-free bread. (Most eateries still do not cater for allergies) I found myself there again yesterday and had one of their omelettes, well cooked and stuffed with loads of ingredients. It has a lovely atmosphere, with local art and photography for sale or to just admire whilst you eat. I highly recommend this place 🙂

Mortimers is easily the best cafe in Herne bay by far, in here everyday and never had a bad bit of food. Food is always cooked to perfection, their breakfast is definitely top. Staff are so friendly, always welcoming and always have a smile. The bad review below this named under Allison Langley, is not true. I was actually in the cafe at the time sitting behind the woman and her son. Her son had his music on really loud, was so loud that people in the cafe was actually moaning including myself. As a bit of common sense and politeness, she should have told her son to turn his music down or put his headphones in. As she didn’t do this, Richard come over and politely asked if her son could turn his music down a little as people were complaining. On this, she still didn’t and got up with her stuff, went to the till and rudly slapped her card on the machine. As she was walking out she actually walked past me and told me not to let my baby scream or we will be chucked out. Richard is such a lovely man & wouldn’t offend anyone or be rude in anyway. Neither would any of the staff. Regardless of her bad review that isn’t true, Mortimers is still by far the best Cafe, for Breakfast & Lunch

This is a fantastic restaurant. Speaking as an ex Chef the food is sublime, second to none and I have had many breakfasts and dinners here. It is very tasty and cooked to perfection. The staff are lovely and they are like having another family. They are all very friendly and cater for everyone’s needs. Nothing is too much trouble. Thanks so much

Lovely friendly cafe , beautiful meals and roast dinners are huge A*

So i have been here many times lovely food and great staff. Today i went in with my mum and 5 year old who is severely sight impaired and has hearing issues. He was watching his songs on my phone and we were talking. The cafe was busy and loud and they had background music on. We were rudely interrupted by a grey haired man who works there who came over and said “can you turn that down” no please, no explanation. The cafe was not quiet and the phone was not loud. I thought it was bloody rude and for the first time ever i felt self conscious about my son’s disabilities. I wont be back. You sir are a let down to the staff and an otherwise great cafe. Also i would advise that although you cater for a lot of the elderly, disabilities and health issues are also to be found in the younger customers, you would be wise to remember that and adjust, what I thought, was a stinking rude attitude that could do with adopting some empathy and understanding Please note i would have give 0 stars for your uneducated behaviour In my opinion not child or disability friendly unless you outwardly show a disability is present

We have been to Mortimer's many time every time the meals are lovely and hot, the staff are very friendly, and definitely worth a visit.

Lovely friendly atmosphere, with cheerful and helpful staff. Delicious home cooked food. A massive plate of roast lamb, roast potatoes, and a variety of veg. Yummy desserts too. All good prices. We will go again!

Not been here before, but I will be back again having had a lovely Chicken roast dinner. Generous portion for a really good price. The breakfast another diner had looked good so I may try that next time. The place was busy, a good sign of good food.

What a charming place in town to eat. Nice decoration, seascape photography prints on walls are for sale. Great varied menu. Opted for roast lamb abd it was lush with a good portion of lamb.

Just wanted to give a massive shout out to Mortimers Herne Bay who have saved our Mother's day today! After being booked in at another restaurant for 2.30, 5 adults and 1 child, the restaurant had to cancel us at 2pm due to unforeseen circumstances. The circumstances couldn't be helped and these things happen. With a quick call to mortimers they managed to squeeze us in at the end of service, serve us the most delicious roast dinners and cracking puddings! Thank you to Richard, chloe and the rest of your team for making our day and Happy mothers day! X

I had one of the best brunches ever followed by a lovely Irish cream coffee.

Out of date condiments on the table & when this was pointed out to staff they didn’t really care & as this was already put on food & they didn’t offer replacement or refund. Not worth my custom & not hygiene friendly. Very poor customer service.

This restaurant never fails to give a great service, great food and a deliciously full tummy, if you want a decent homemade meal at a decent price and leave with a smile on your face, then this is the place to go!

Lovely welcome. Choice of where to sit. Great menu selection. Comfortable, casual, kind and obviously very popular. Waiter got scissors for an elderly couple to open the awkward sachets. Came here today, 6 adults, 3 children. Wonderful service. The waiter was excellent with the children. Very friendly and the food was lovely. I had prawn salad which was delicious and quite large. I thought I wouldn't eat it all but it was too nice to leave. Everyone else said their food was really nice and all the kids ate theirs which says something for them. Will definitely be coming back.

Great to be able to come out of lockdown with this amazing cream tea in my friends garden. Great selection of sandwiches scones jam and cream and yummy cakes. So much could not finish it. But as it was so good managed it for supper later on.

My friend ordered a cream tea as a takeaway to celebrate coming out of lockdown and what a celebration we had, a fantastic choice of sandwiches quiche and salad then followed by scones jam and cream and yummy cakes. To much for one sitting but managed to finish it off later.Great value for money.

Ordered four roasts through Mortimers for today (Sunday). They were fantastic. The Yorkshire puddings were amazing! My son said and I quote "this is the best dinner we have had". Says alot about my cooking really 😂 I shall absolutely order again. Thank you x

I ordered an afternoon tea for mother's Day. It was easy to order, covid friendly on collection and was met with a warm welcome too. The boxes looked lovely with lots of choice of savory and sweet. My mum was thrilled with it and said how fresh and tasty everything was. I would highly recommend and will definitely be going in for more when it's safe to do so. Thank you Mortimer's Restaurant!

Today for first time my Wife & I had a roast (Lamb) from Mortimer's - Not able to meet up with family as we normally would due to lock down, so arranged for meal to be delivered.Meal arrived on time, was piping hot & already on plates with a lot of gravy each + a complimentary wine for the lady of the house.Great value, excellent service - Highly recommend Mortimer's for food & ServiceThank you Mortimer's - Andy

I ordered an Afternoon Tea for my mother-in-laws birthday and her and her husband absolutely loved them! They haven't been out during lockdown at all (apart from to exercise) so this was a really lovely welcome treat. Delivery was made exactly as promised. They said the sandwiches were so fresh, the quiche very tasty and they thoroughly enjoyed all the sweet treats. Well done to you Mortimers, fantastic job. Would highly recommend.

Thank you for such a fantastic birthday Afternoon Tea for Two. It was a treat to have this delivered to our home, on time and in nice presentation boxes. Good choice of well filled tasty sandwiches, cheese scones, delicious home made quiche, crunchy salad and a lovely assortment of yummy home made cake and mini fancies. Generous portions so we enjoyed some the next day.A week later we wanted a day off cooking and decided to have the vegetarian Sunday Roast. This was so good, delicious cranberry and cashew loaf with all the trimmings - lots of veggies, crisp potatoes and nice gravy. Will definitely be coming back.

Today for the first time my husband and I had a roast from Mortimers, due to lock down we had it delivered, usually we are in there for breakfast at the weekends.Our dinner was delivered at the time stated and by a lovely bubbly lady, it arrived well wrapped and already on plates and a lot of gravy each.OMG there was loads on each plate I could not eat all mine which was a shame as our dinners were lovely.Thank you Mortimers. We had a very tasty afternoon tea delivered today , prepared by Chloe and delivered by Richard. What made it even more special was the extra touches like fresh strawberry tea lights and a ❤ shaped chocolate. Thank you Guys absolutely delicious.

We wanted to share afternoon tea with friends, however, with lock down we were not able to do this. We decided to have take out teas from Mortimers over Zoom which worked well. The tea was simply delicious, It was collected, we could have had it delivered, and was boxed up beautifully. Everything was there from the delicious sandwiches, enormous scones, jam and cream; tea biscuits and cakes; there was also quiche and salad. The tea was decorated with chocolate hearts (nearly Valentine's day) and other nibbles. Tea bags and candles were also supplied. We had a wonderful tea and spent time on line with friends. Well worth repeating.

Organised an afternoon tea for some friends for their anniversary and I have to say it was excellent. Great selection, lots of it and Chloe who organised it for me was brilliant. They even put a card in with it. Well done Mortimer’s, it’s so difficult for the hospitality trade at the moment. I thoroughly recommend them and it’s local.

We had a delicious generous beef roast dinner, together with deserts (mine was apple crumble and cream, my husband had lemon sponge and custard) delivered - great value for money, plenty of fresh vegetables, roast potatoes, lashings of gravy. We can highly recommend the food a and service,

Birthday Sunday Roast Dinner absolutely brilliant and tasty. Lovely lady and so accommodating. Made my day and would have no hesitation in recommending them. The thought that went into this was tremendous and with a lovely Victoria Sponge Cake was excellent. I can’t praise them enough! Big virtual hugs and thank you❤️

Today we had a delicious cranberry and cashew nut roast delivered piping hot to our door 🚪. A really lovely meal with roast potatoes, 4 veg, and vegetarian gravy. Fantastic! Thank you Richard, Chloe, Sophie and the gang for making our day.

Ordered two roast beef dinners on 15th November as no kitchen at home. Dinner was delivered on time and piping hot with plenty of gravy. Roast beef, potatoes and vegetables all perfectly cooked. Well done to Mortimers for offering this service during the lockdown period. We have ordered again for this Sunday.
