Mortimers Restaurant in Canterbury

We go there once a week as a treat always look forward to it great home made food and reasonably price very friendly staff.

We go to Mortimers for our quiz nights, & Karioke. Also they have done a Greek night which turned out a great night with great food and lots of dancing. A lovely family atmosphere, food is very good and catered for my dietary requirements which is a bonus for me. All the staff go above and beyond to making every little detail count. I definitely would recommend this restaurant. Thankyou all for your great experiences xxx

We were in Hernebay for a walk and decided to have our dinner there. We walked past Mortimers looked at the menu and walked in . I had steak pie with vegetables and my wife had Salmon with salad and new potatoes. Well our meals were lovely and the pie was to die for , the vegetables were fresh and cooked to a good point . Staff were excellent and the owner served us , was very friendly and chatty .

I haven't had dressed crab for years, saw it being advertised at Mortimers, so off went my grandaughter and I. The meal was lovely, both my grandaughter and I were very full afterwards, lovely service, nice clean establishment. Don't just look on the seafront for places to eat, this is a little gem in Mortimer Street, only a couple of hundred yards from the seafront

I ordered afternoon tea for my mums 85th birthday and it was absolutely lush. So much food and all very fresh. Also had homemade scotch eggs and quiche with was delicious. We all enjoyed and it made my mums birthday. Thank you

Four of us were visiting a friend for the Bank Holiday to celebrate a couple of birthdays. We called mortimers on the off chance to see if they were open for a late lunch and what a great deal we got! Lovely service, and tasty, home-cooked food for both vegetarians and meat eaters. Will definitely go back.

Lovely family run restaurant with good wholesome English food. There is always a "specials" board to choose from and they cater for vegetarians as well as meet/fish eaters

Went here with my Nan and Sister. I had a delicious ham and cheese panini (toasted) I couldn't get enough of it, it came with crisps they didn't say the flavour but they were just salted so I was bothered. Nan had an omelette with some salad and pees, she said it was perfectly cooked, nice and fresh. My sister had eggs and ham with some chips, absolutely stunning. We all had dessert, chocolate pudding and ice cream, very tasty. The staff was very lovely and happy to have a chat with my nan. You'd think it was going to be quite expensive from how nice it looks inside but it was very reasonably priced. 10/10 will definitely be asking nan to take us back here lol.

I cannot speak more highly of this Restaurant. All the staff are friendly and will listen to any requests. The menu is extensive and there is always a Specials Board for both mains and puddings.

Fabulous lunch for 10 of us. We had sunday Neal's as takeaway and it was delicious and piping hot. We will do this every month from now on. Making sure us pensioners get an excellent sunday lunch. Thank you Richard and team

Went for cream tea that we had won in christmas raffel prize given by Mortimers. Was really good. Will be returning for more. Also the meals and breakfast look very good.

A colleague and I had lunch with some guys we care for. The homemade chilli and rice was by far the best we've ever had. We will certainly be coming back.

We were having a walk on Sunday morning and decided to stop off for some breakfast at Mortimers. We were welcomed in and had a delicious breakfast served by very cheerful staff. On leaving we were told it was nice to have met us and hope to see us again - which they certainly will. All nice and clean. Jan & John’o

We are regulars in as much as, that every time we visit Herne Bay we go to Mortimer's for lunch/dinner. At least 6-7 times a year. Twice last month. You can't beat the food, service or atmosphere.

We held my Father’s wake here on the 18th January as it was where my parents ate on a daily basis. Mortimers did us proud! All 20 of our guests enjoyed their wonderful home cooked, piping hot food and I would definitely recommend them for their lovely lunches. Thank you Richard, Chloe and all the staff. Ann. X

Heard that this restaurant had won the title “Best Roast Dinner In Kent” So as we had people staying this weekend we all thought to go for roast dinner. 3 of us had the beef and one gammon. The meat for us all was delicious, masses of tasty roast potatoes with 3 veg and a sizeable Yorkshire. We took the option of two sides of cauliflower cheese which was enough for two to share. The gravy was delicious and when we asked if we could have some more half way through our meals, a gravy jug was quickly brought for us which impressed us as it was busy. Service was friendly and there was a great atmosphere as every table was booked with people enjoying their food. We will certainly be returning.

A lovely spot for lunch. We all had the roast pork which was delicious. Great selection of veggies and crispy roast potatoes. The owner and staff very pleasant. Very reasonable prices I also admired the canvases of a local photographer Would definitely recommend a visit.

Amazing! My friend and I had our annual Christmas dinner. Wonderful service and the food is fantastic. Proper home cooked. No fuss or frills. Took my boyfriend the next day it was just so good. Well done Richard and your brilliant waiting staff and chef x

Had a Xmas dinner it was beautiful a proper home cooked roast no wonder its been voted the best roast in Kent .Well only because they didn't taste mine lol

Apart from the screaming child which the owners couldn't help but which disturbed me greatly I found the service lacking as I wasn't told there's a specials board, I decided to have leek and potato soup which I think was made with the green bits of the leek due to the colour, it had been puree'd so there could have been anything in there and to be frank it was so strong tasting I couldn't eat it. I'd have had something nice from the specials board if I'd known about it. The waiter was cheerful but the rest of the staff that I saw acted like they didn't want to be there. I won't be going back.

Once again a delicious ‘home cooked ‘ Sunday roast - generous portions with plenty of fresh vegetables. Excellent service by friendly staff and a great atmosphere. We would highly recommend Mortimers but essential to book, especially on a Sunday!

Large breakfast very worth the price

Typical breakfast/brunch/lunch café with plenty of choice. Roast dinners were also available when we visited on a Wednesday. Everywhere was clean. Our food was excellent. The portions are quite large and smaller sized meals are available - I don't know if they reduce the price of them as I didn't get the bill this time! I don't believe they have an alcohol licence. Beware - the plates are screaming hot and will keep your meal hot until the end, when they say "don't touch the plates" - don't...

Celebrated a team bonding evening at Mortimers. What a great time we all had. Karaoke, a pop quiz and the most delicious ploughman's platter ever! Staff worked so incredibly hard to make our evening special. Wine was flowing, vocal chords busting, liads of laughter and great memories had by all. 5 star experience. Thank you all so much.

Wow, we know you food is good as we have had your fantastic slimming world style breakfast and roast dinner but your afternoon tea was amazing, you could definitely tell it was home cooked, it was delicious, a really big thumbs up to Richard and his staff for fantastic service and valuable for money food, will definitely be recommending you to friends, a defiant 10 out of 10, will be back soon

We had yet another great meal here, the homemade steak pice is out of this world, I only eat small amounts y they full filled my requirements to a t? My husband had the chicken and ham pie again fantastic

We had lovely Sunday roasts today at Mortimer's in Herne Bay. Thoroughly enjoyed them.

Once again a fabulous meal, with first class service. We have been visiting Mortimers for a few years now and can honestly say, we have never had a bad meal or service, staff are always happy and polite, nothing is a problem, would never dream of going anywhere else. Keep up the good work xx

Having just moved to the area, I'm so happy to find this lovely clean and friendly family run café. Firstly the food is freshly cooked and you get plenty. The first visit I had the slimming world's breakfast, I mentioned I had a wheat allergy and was pleasantly surprised they have gluten-free bread. (Most eateries still do not cater for allergies) I found myself there again yesterday and had one of their omelettes, well cooked and stuffed with loads of ingredients. It has a lovely atmosphere, with local art and photography for sale or to just admire whilst you eat. I highly recommend this place 🙂

Mortimers is easily the best cafe in Herne bay by far, in here everyday and never had a bad bit of food. Food is always cooked to perfection, their breakfast is definitely top. Staff are so friendly, always welcoming and always have a smile. The bad review below this named under Allison Langley, is not true. I was actually in the cafe at the time sitting behind the woman and her son. Her son had his music on really loud, was so loud that people in the cafe was actually moaning including myself. As a bit of common sense and politeness, she should have told her son to turn his music down or put his headphones in. As she didn’t do this, Richard come over and politely asked if her son could turn his music down a little as people were complaining. On this, she still didn’t and got up with her stuff, went to the till and rudly slapped her card on the machine. As she was walking out she actually walked past me and told me not to let my baby scream or we will be chucked out. Richard is such a lovely man & wouldn’t offend anyone or be rude in anyway. Neither would any of the staff. Regardless of her bad review that isn’t true, Mortimers is still by far the best Cafe, for Breakfast & Lunch

This is a fantastic restaurant. Speaking as an ex Chef the food is sublime, second to none and I have had many breakfasts and dinners here. It is very tasty and cooked to perfection. The staff are lovely and they are like having another family. They are all very friendly and cater for everyone’s needs. Nothing is too much trouble. Thanks so much

Lovely friendly cafe , beautiful meals and roast dinners are huge A*

So i have been here many times lovely food and great staff. Today i went in with my mum and 5 year old who is severely sight impaired and has hearing issues. He was watching his songs on my phone and we were talking. The cafe was busy and loud and they had background music on. We were rudely interrupted by a grey haired man who works there who came over and said “can you turn that down” no please, no explanation. The cafe was not quiet and the phone was not loud. I thought it was bloody rude and for the first time ever i felt self conscious about my son’s disabilities. I wont be back. You sir are a let down to the staff and an otherwise great cafe. Also i would advise that although you cater for a lot of the elderly, disabilities and health issues are also to be found in the younger customers, you would be wise to remember that and adjust, what I thought, was a stinking rude attitude that could do with adopting some empathy and understanding Please note i would have give 0 stars for your uneducated behaviour In my opinion not child or disability friendly unless you outwardly show a disability is present

We have been to Mortimer's many time every time the meals are lovely and hot, the staff are very friendly, and definitely worth a visit.

Lovely friendly atmosphere, with cheerful and helpful staff. Delicious home cooked food. A massive plate of roast lamb, roast potatoes, and a variety of veg. Yummy desserts too. All good prices. We will go again!

Not been here before, but I will be back again having had a lovely Chicken roast dinner. Generous portion for a really good price. The breakfast another diner had looked good so I may try that next time. The place was busy, a good sign of good food.

What a charming place in town to eat. Nice decoration, seascape photography prints on walls are for sale. Great varied menu. Opted for roast lamb abd it was lush with a good portion of lamb.

Just wanted to give a massive shout out to Mortimers Herne Bay who have saved our Mother's day today! After being booked in at another restaurant for 2.30, 5 adults and 1 child, the restaurant had to cancel us at 2pm due to unforeseen circumstances. The circumstances couldn't be helped and these things happen. With a quick call to mortimers they managed to squeeze us in at the end of service, serve us the most delicious roast dinners and cracking puddings! Thank you to Richard, chloe and the rest of your team for making our day and Happy mothers day! X

I had one of the best brunches ever followed by a lovely Irish cream coffee.

Out of date condiments on the table & when this was pointed out to staff they didn’t really care & as this was already put on food & they didn’t offer replacement or refund. Not worth my custom & not hygiene friendly. Very poor customer service.

This restaurant never fails to give a great service, great food and a deliciously full tummy, if you want a decent homemade meal at a decent price and leave with a smile on your face, then this is the place to go!
