The Pier Ceylon in Canterbury

Really unique restaurant with a welcoming feel and clearly has lots of exciting events going on throughout the year. We enjoyed our food and drink and the portions were really generous. I only wish we had had room for dessert!

After a marriage ceremony in Canterbury we came back to eat with the family - 22 of us including 4 children and 1 toddler. The staff were extremely welcoming, attentive and efficient. After we had finished our meal they offered us a space below the restaurant for us to continue our celebrations. The food was delicious, catered for all our dietary needs and was plentiful. The final bill including drinks and food was extremely reasonable. They even gave us a lovely bottle of wine as a present . I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough and will certainly be booking again.

The food this morning was excellent! Huge portions which have set us up for the day. The Sri Lankan village breakfast of chicken curry was a stand out and has the children (and husband) asking me to make it at home!

Delicious breakfast, really enjoyed the egg hopper. Very nice aesthetic inside the restaurant too. Friendly staff, will definitely be back ! 😊

Lovely friendly place, relaxed atmosphere, plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Good big glasses of juice and my Sri Lankan breakfast was excellent. If I lived in Herne Bay I'd come for one of those every day! Be aware that they close the kitchen at 4 & reopen later for dinners.

A really nice place to spend some time over a meal. I ordered the vegetarian Sri lankan breakfast and my friend the standard breakfast. Both wonderful. The egg hoppers are really fun! Decorated well and friendly service. Thankyou.

Went there on Saturday, Charlie was an incredible cooker and couldn’t thank him enough for my impeccable meal. I had loaded fries and it was very nice. Thank you to every who works their and especially Charlie 👑

Absolutely lovely. The food was delicious, which is the most important thing. But what makes this place so nice is how welcoming it is. We were there quite early with our baby and there were couples, groups of friends and families there; some having dinner and some just drinks. There was going to be live music on later but it was not loud when we were there. Finding somewhere we would feel equally comfortable having a romantic date night, going for drinks with friends or taking the baby to is a rare and welcome find. The only downside for some would be the limited meat choices. I love vegetarian food so I had a few options but I wouldn't normally choose chicken if I was having meat.

I've been here for both breakfast and for dinner this week. Amazing place, gorgeous food selections. Can be a little slow on service when the place busy - but when the staff are smiling and friendly and the food is THAT good, you're happy to wait! Will happily come back again and again.

I came after attending a queen tribute concert on Herne Bat pier close by, for a drink with a couple of friends and found the most brilliant atmospheric bar I haven’t been in since I was working in different parts of the world!! The live band were brilliant, the staff amazing with so much going on and the delightful intimacy with great people coming and going even at midnight when I left,. I truly good bar and restaurant worthy of any major city centre ! Even in lowly Herne bay ! Thanks

Visited yesterday and it was lovely. The gentleman who served us was very and friendly throughout, the food was nice and prices were good. Best of all, they have a few vegan options and tried a couple.

Absolutely amazing food and wonderful service

Went for a meal me and the hubby and loved the food! He had the chicken curry and I had the vegan chicken curry both with sides of lentils. Portion size was massive and our belly’s was full but still was trying to clean our plate cos it was yummy. Was blown away with the amount of vegan options on the menu and the fact all the deserts were vegan too. I had the biscoff muffin and was so good! Great atmosphere as there was a jazz singer and the service was good, would definitely recommend and would go back again :)

Easily the best coffee shop in Herne Bay. I’ve been in several times with my young family and the service is always great. The coffee and snacks are second to none.

Great food, staff were really friendly. Authentic Sri Lankan food mixed with traditional English food. Hot chocolate was lovely and the hoppers were great. Good choices for vegans. Reasonably priced. Child and pet friendly. Great location if you are visiting the pier /town etc

Went for dinner and a live band, the food is tasty though I'd recommend going for the traditional Lankan dishes only...my partner had the burger which was so small it may have been a flattened meatball. I had the Kothu with some coconut sambal which was good. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was fun. Definitely worth a visit, we'll head back for sure.

Amazing food ; fast service ; generous portions and great atmosphere /decoration ; we were there for dinner but decided to stay longer because they have a singer and by himself did such an amazing show; people dance and had a great time. Also It’s Dog Friendly ! We were in the area just for the weekend in December but I would go back just to go to this restaurant. We absolutely love it !

Happened upon here by chance and I'm glad we did! The food is absolutely amazing, cannot fault it at all. Friendly staff and the band that was playing were pretty damn good too (Delta Blue). If we're in the area again for a night out, we will definitely be coming here again.

Booked here for our first experience of Sri Lankan food in Herne Bay. We are a couple in our 60's. We knew there was a singer on but we assumed it would be appropriate for restaurant dining. We shouldn't have gone in when we heard the volume the music was on. The singer who is used to fronting a party band was belting out up tempo songs at the top of her voice so we couldn't have a conversation. There were several people who weren't eating and who were shouting out loudly. As for the food, well it was tasty enough but there was very limited choice of curries-one chicken,one prawn and a vegan option plus a burger and a few small plates.The waitress did not write down our order and there was a mistake in that the roti bread was missed off our order and it was so long coming we had to ask at the bar where it was.When it eventually came we had nearly finished our mains and it seemed as though it had been heated up in a hurry. To be fair the waitress was very apologetic and knocked 10% off our bill. I'm afraid we were put off returning, which is a shame because I had high hopes for a new type of restaurant in the area. Perhaps the owners should decide if they want this place to be a proper restaurant or a party venue.

The food and drink here is exceptional. The Hot Chocolate and the Loaded Fries I would highly recommend. Dog friendly and really nice chilled out atmosphere and Vegan options.

I just like the place. Dil and Harry, owners, often organise events, so do look at their web-page. They make a superb Mud-Slide cocktail, which is never big enough, so I need at least 2.

Great all-day or veggie breakfast with a slight asian twist, even the baked beans were delicious. Good vibe, but the music is too loud.

My friend and I went out on one of our rare excursions for the drag bingo night, we booked early as wanted a meal as well. We had a lovely meal, my friend had the king prawn curry and I had chicken kothu, absolutely delicious, generous portions to the point we couldn't eat it all! The Irish coffee nearly blew our socks off, quality whisky, generous dollop of thick cream, we followed up with strawberry soleros, dreamy. As for the entertainment, I haven't laughed so much in ages, the drag act is so entertaining, the bingo hilarious, will defo go again for this. What really completed the night was the friendliness of the staff, very attentive polite and chatty, lovely decor 10/10 to you guys, and thank you x

On a wet cold Tuesday evening I joined friends for a cabaret show and dinner. The food was excellent tasty well priced and the service we all thought was excellent both welcoming and timely with our food orders . The Entertainment as ever was just hysterical if this is your thing 💃and thoroughly recommend this venue Well done 👏

Highly recommend a visit. We went to their comedy night and took advantage of the burger and drink for £15 offer. Both were awesome- comedy was brilliant and the food was gorgeous! We'll definitely be back for both in the future 👍

Always a warm welcome in this cafe/bar. On this particular visit we had lunch, we took a visiting foody friend and he was very impressed. His dog was also made to feel welcome. We have taken my elderly father here for coffee, who also really enjoyed his experience. The place feels very inclusive. Food and drinks good quality, love the fact the cakes are always vegan, coffee great and food with a spicy kick if you want it and loads of vegetarian options.

Really lovely setting for a get together with friends. Relaxed atmosphere and very friendly staff. Didn’t feel rushed even though we kept talking and forgot to look at the menu. Love the fact that the menu caters for all and the food was absolutely delicious.

Perfect as usual, lovely view and great service. Usually I have the Old Fashioned cocktail 🍹 which is amazing but I am not drinking at the moment and the Lucky Saint was perfect.

A lovely venue with warm, welcoming and accommodating staff, delicious food and dog friendly too. We love coming here. We’ve been for breakfast and lunch and look forward to visiting in the evening soon.

We have been visiting The Pier Ceylon for a few years now and we travel from Essex every time. We love this place they do the best Mocha I have ever tasted and my hubby loves their Chai Latte. We normally always have a fabulous brunch here too which is delicious. It’s very dog friendly and we always bring our Frenchie Gigi the staff are amazing and the lovely girls always bring Gigi lots of treats & water and she loves all the attention. The girls are so friendly & polite. They offer 2 cocktails for £15 at certain times during the day and the other week I had the pumpkin spice martini latte which was amazing. We hope to visit again before Christmas. We really wouldn’t go anywhere else when we come to Herne Bay. This place is our favorite.

This venue is an absolute gem in Herne Bay. They host more live music and events than any other venue I’ve seen in Kent and all the things I’ve been to have been brilliant. Innovative + delicious cocktails along with gorgeous food with beautiful views of the ocean - there is nothing not to love. The venue is also a very safe space for the LGBTQ+ community which is a big deal for the area. I have met the owners and you can tell they genuinely care about the customer experience which makes such a difference. I definitely recommend a visit.

A lovely cafe/ reasturant. A must for a visit to Herne Bay. The sri lankan menu is varied and such a treat to have hoppers with authentic and tasty curry but also options of more traditional UK breakfast/ flavours. The coffe/ hot chocolate is delicious and the cake options looked great. Great location opposite the peir.

I have nothing but praise for this amazing restaurant and entertainment venue. The Sri-Lankan food is as you will get in the UK, with at least 50% of the dishes suitable for vegans. The entertainment was great and the team of staff all seemed genuinely happy - somebody is doing something extremely well to bring us this gem of a place. Use or lose!

Visited here for brunch, not so great. Then went for dinner and oh my god! Food was wicked. Stayed for the drag bingo and that was awesome. Even my rather young son was in stitches. But inappropriate but hey, it was an eye opener. Most jokes went over his head but he gigglesld at some of the swearing. Thankfully he is a responsible kid with irresponsible parents.
