The original Mortimer cafe is the classic greasy spoon, in a good way. The new one opposite the Co-op is a step up, with a great range of fresh food, charming service and good opening hours. A bit more pricey, but worth it. Best flat white for miles, too.

Surprised to find a cafe of this sort in Mortimer. Has the feel of a classic transport cafe or an urban, people’s cafe. But it looked my kind of place, so I made a point of trying breakfast there before a walk. A biggish cafe inside, but I sat outside at a table. Numerous different combinations of a fried breakfast on offer. I chose one with scrambled eggs and--a rare delight these days--fried bread. Also a big tomato nicely charred from the grill, good bacon, a large portion of mushrooms, baked beans, etc. Just what I needed to fuel my hike over to Silchester and beyond. Came up quickly, served hot. They had at least 6 staff on, so this is a serious cafe. The staff were outstanding. One lady chatted to me in a friendly manner, and it seemed natural, not going through the motions. Made my day. One lad came out to see if I was being served. I was; but that he had the awareness to notice me out front and check was impressive. Like everything about Mortimer Cafe, he was on the ball. For a weekday, this cafe was pretty busy. To me that shows it must’ve earned a good reputation.

Thankfully there are lots of tables, as the cafe was busy, but our drinks arrived within a minute or 2 and our food just 5 minutes later, including a big breakfast, which filled the plate. I thoroughly recommend the cafe and we'll definitely go again when in the area.

We went today for a late breakfast, we have been here quite a few time in the past. The food was good but not as good as usual there was a younger lad cooking maybe that's why, my sausage was slightly under and the eggs on the hard side. An off day as we have never had this happen before. we will return again and hope it's back to normal next time.

Loved my bacon & eggs however confusing that there didn't appear to be any fresh cakes for my friend who wanted coffee and cake, something like a Victoria sponge, carrot cake and a vegan/gluten free option as well as maybe a flapjack would go down a treat!

Although the food and service was very good,i cannot get over the fact that egg and beans on toast with a coffee cost £8.40. If you plan to come here, you may want to speak to a mortgage advisor.

They do great breakfasts, which is why they have full tables early on a weekend and during the week, lunches too, when white vans are parked outside! Good value: simple stuff done well. Drinks are OK... a bit meh, coffee, tea and hot chocolate all a bit corporate, if you know what I mean...

We go to the cafe a lot in our village and every time we go, and we are served by this certain waitress (name unknown) she fails to understand what we are saying half the time and she doesn’t speak great English, and today my partner repeated what he wanted 4 times and was still worried the order would come back to him wrong, which it did. He asked for no eggs no hash brown and sausage and it came with all of it. It is also getting unbearably hot in that cafe each time we go there

Have eaten at the Mortimer cafe before and always been happy with the quality and price of the food. This last visit was with a group of nearly 20 friends. We arrived all at the same time and they managed to take orders and get our breakfasts to us in no time at all. Several of the group made a point of saying that they would use the cafe again.

This has become our go-to cafe for a great all day breakfast. We don't live in the village so drive over just to eat there. The staff are great, the place is lovely and clean, the prices are reasonable for the size of the food. We have asked for the occasional tweak and they've accommodated us wonderfully. If you're hungry and are near the lovely village of Mortimer then pop in. You won't be disappointed!

after a visit to an excellent hardware store (an Aladdin cave sort of place) and it be noon, we fancied a snack, so after attempting to park around the back, we gave up and parked on the street outside plenty of space. There was some tables and chairs outside, but we fancied the cool of inside. it was busy (always a good sign) although a tad noisy, there was a free table so we sat at it, had a look at the menu, and a waitress approached, ordered coffees, as we hadn't decided on the food yet, Ordered a prawn baguette and a chicken sandwich. My baguette was tasty, as for the sandwich, I didn't get a look in, must have been good.

I could have sworn I reviewed this place earlier in the year but I can't find it and it probably deserves another one anyway. This is a lovely village cafe in rural Berkshire. It is run by a Turkish(?) family but serves straight-down the line British food, in particular all-day breakfasts. It looks small form the outside but actually seats 54 by my count in bright, airy and spotlessly-clean premises (local authority rating 5/5). Decor is plain but characterful, kitted out with solid, wooden furniture. There is a small car-park around the back. Waiters/waitresses are diligent, attentive, polite and efficient - no long waits but all freshly-cooked food.

The Mortimer cafe doesn't pretend to be what it isn't. It essentially is a greasy spoon but the environment is clean and friendly. In the local area there is limited choices for breakfast (Wellington Farm shop my usual) but I find their breakfasts quite limited for a full fry up.

Working locally, I tend to use the bakery cafe on a regular basis. Service is friendly and fast, ideal for quick lunch stops and the food is always good. Sausages could be of better quality, sounds picky but a good sausage costs very little more than a bad sausage. All in all, well worth a visit for good value hot food.

We were seated in a nice booth on a busy Sunday afternoon - even though we hadn't booked. We all enjoyed the Prix Fixê menu - reasonably priced and excellent options to choose from. We had a couple of glasses of wine each & the fruity soda. All the team were friendly & cheerful (thanks to our server - didn't catch his name but Silver Fox describes him adequately!). We'll definitely be back again.
