Morrisons supermaket in South Hams

Now as a Devonian I was aware that Totnes Morrisons could have just been an extension of the London yummy mummy brigade, hiding as felt hat wearing socialists whilst still raking in big bucks working for Shell or HSBC from home. I couldn't have been more wrong. Yes, there are the slew of mum's with homeschooled kids at their feet who are angrily shouting that they just want a Cadbury's Fredo rather than a nature valley oat bar, the deluge of chuckle shoes and crocs, the felt, oh so much felt!! The vegan children where so pale you can see their hearts beating through their chests like a deep sea creature. But the cafe is a sanctuary for those wanting a slice of proper Devon, average age 75, just what I said want to be surrounded by, a menu that's reasonably priced and a standard coffee that doesn't mean I have to ask my ageing mother for a loan to buy. I had the veggie sausage roll and coffee deal for £4 my partner Mrs M had the full English, her eyes are always bigger than her stomach but will she listen, no. We sat looking out on to a sunny car park fuelled with bad parking, tye dye and 90s travellers, wafting patchouli through the automatic door entrance. The food was as expected. It filled a hole. Nice bread, sausages were tasty and coffee was how it should be circa 2000. This place is an oasis from the big city folk who have moved in and brought with them a sense of amazement at seeing a field for the first time ever, whilst still keeping their capitalist ideals of buying so much felt and hemp that those dying trades are flourishing once more. I praise Morrisons for its honesty, openness and "you get what's expected attitude" Best value brunch in Totnes by a country yes country, mile. Bravo.

Once you have braved the leap across the huge pot hole (canyon), you can shop in a moderately average supermarket and enjoy an average breakfast. Staff are lovely.

Poached eggs and avocado on toast for £5 - bargain. All day breakfast is a great bonus when visiting "Arnie" the badly repaired and previously infamous "Morrisons Pot Hole". Badly filled after less than one day at number 42 in Totnes "things to see", Arnie "I'll be back" Pothole is a jewel of a trip. A deep and spiritual experience.

Ordered the ultimate fish and chips and also the meat free sausage and mash. Both tasted fine, the mash especially was creamy, so the meals were extremely good value for money. The lattes we ordered were extremely poor and not worth the money, even though free refills were included! We mentioned to the staff that we were getting strong half cups (so not enough milk) delivered and their answer was to press the button again, stupid answer as that would have been an overflowing cup. We were not the only ones, lots of people around us were complaining and nothing was done about it. Poor customer service, poor coffees and hence the low scoring.

Pick a non- busy day and you get perfect, buttered toast. Usually places give a a slab of cold butter and cold toast - yuk! Tell them you like it buttered, brow on both sides and bingo, toasted delight.

Now I will say that for a 2 for £10 breakfasts, when we arrived they were understaffed, however this has been redeemed by the excellent service from Sharon G. She was constantly on the move, making sure everyone was happy and that everyone got their food exactly as they wanted, whilst also running the counter and taking orders, not just a credit to the location but a credit to the industry. She was remarkable!

Sadly attitude of staff is not what I would expect from service. Couldn’t be bothered, shrugged shoulders when I asked about knives - fundamental when eating a main meal. Fortunately on holiday so no need to return

We’ve been going to Totnes Morrisons cafe for many years, we know the staff and the pressures they face from lack of staff. They all work hard, they are polite, but they’re often stressed as they are at times having to do two peoples jobs at once due to low staffing levels, which is a store management failure not a cafe failure. It’s the friendliest Morrisons cafe we’ve been to which is why we keep going back! The store management need a cleaner to give the cafe a deep clean now and then, the cafe staff don’t have time to turn around let alone deep clean, there are often flies at the back of the coffee and tea machines on the windowsills which makes you feel a bit sick, this needs addressing! The meals are presented and cooked very well, and the waiting times are reasonable most of the time. We do think the Store management need to support the cafe staff more, and understand how staff shortages affect their cafe staffs MH due to their stressful working environment, often due to customers moaning at them, when it’s not their fault! Lacking customer service, decent management, and cleanliness. The manager on morning of 7/9/22 walked past customers waiting to be served at the til announcing that she was ‘going for a fag’. Does the store manager know this is happening within their store?

I had breakfast there. The staff were unhelpful and rude. The food was ok, but I had to search for a menu. I wasn't given any information about the system and was almost shouted at when I was unclear where to find things. My breakfast was cold by the time I'd worked out that I had to get my own tea and asked for a tea bag as there were none provided. I've rarely come across such appalling customer service in a cafe.

Feed the family for 10 pound and amazing food. Can't go wrong. Fish burger was massive and the mac and cheese was very cheesy and tasty

The most wonderful supermarket cafe I have ever visited. The food was positively tumescent with the love of cooking. Book a table, you won’t regret it!

Been attempting meals regularly for years, but they never have lots of the meals avaiable, expecially after 3pm. Lots of times having to leave due to lack of availability. They also stop serving food at 5pm! Staff are friendly but can we sort out meal availability please. Lunch and dinners.

Truly appalling from start to finish . . . The staff have no interest in you, the customer, who pays their wages whatsoever!!! My breakfast was ordered and I was despatched to the hot drinks . . . An “engineer” was just talking to a woman whilst we waited for access to the machine to collect our drinks, after several minutes he finally said goodbye to his acquaintance and we could get our drinks. Breakfast arrived and I asked about a teaspoon and was curtly told “over there”, no black pudding I said, and was told no, ran out yesterday . . . a supermarket ran out . . . REALLY??? Back to the till for a pastry and some more hot water, the “engineer” had blown up all four machines so no hot drinks . . . again questioned the lack of black pudding, offered a substitute, fine I’ll have the pastry . . . I can’t do that??? To cut to the quick, dreadful staff attitude, poor service, couldn’t care less attitude . . . Where is the management and do they have any idea of what is happening in their cafe???

it takes longer to queue and pay than it takes to pick up the goods. The worst supermarket you could visit. Because there is not competition they take the mick out of the locals. Still helps keep the high street alive. Not at all Covid aware as to Many obstacles in the isles ie pallets and caged trollies stacking shelfs even at busiest times. Do not give a monkeys for safety of their customers just profit. To be honest the staff are great manage by idiots. Very bad experience.

Myself, my husband and two young children had just been for a wet and windy walk, while on our way home we decided to pass through Totnes to eat at the morrisons cafe. We thought it was a good idea to check what time the cafe was open till before hand as it was new years day. Online it advised it would be open until 3pm (new years day opening times) when we arrived it was fairly quiet and found a table. we had to clear away all the empty plates and cups from the table from the previous customers and then as a family went to order. Decided to order a all day breakfast, 2x Chicken dippers + Chips and drinks, when we got to the till to order, we were advised by the lady serving they were no longer taking orders for food. We asked why, which the gentleman behind the lady was very rude and told us they stop serving food at 2pm. when we asked what time it was, he replied very sarcastically "it's 1:45pm, but it is new years day", like we didn't know. I replied so can you take our order if you stop cooking food at 2pm? or shall we go somewhere else to eat? A lady in the kitchen shouted through to take our order, which we started going through our order again. While we just got through to paying, a new lady came from the kitchen and advised there is no mushrooms or hash browns, so my husband changed his order to fish and chips, then only to be told they were only cooking breakfasts that day. There was no sign advising they were stopping food at 2pm, or that they were only serving cooked breakfasts. The lady serving on the till had no idea they were only serving breakfasts?? It was like they just wanted to go home and not serve us. We had no apology from any of the staff and a very upset toddler who was hungry. We decided enough was enough and paid for her drink and left. I've never written a review before and always been happy with Morrisons (in other towns), but I truly believe the gentleman needs to have some form of customer service training or not be in a customer facing role, more information needs to be provided when placing orders at the start to keep customers informed of the choices they can make. All in all very disappointed with the Totnes Cafe and will not be visiting again.

I popped in for a bowl of soup about 2pm today. As you pay when you order I didn’t take notice the state of the restaurant until I tried to find a table. The majority of the tables had not been cleared and there was food on the floor under several tables. If it wasn’t for the fact I was in a hurry, and had already paid, I would have walked out. (I should have complained there and then) It took 20mins to be served & the soup resembled something you would have given to a toddler. Appeared to be tinned tomatoes with spaghetti hoops added to it. Very disappointing

OWE what lovely staff here in morrisons cafe,helpfull,cheerfull,polite. We stopped here for refreshments while waiting for the bus to Torquay. Good choice of cafe food,unlimited drink refills after paying for one,warm room,toilets. We came back the very next day,thank you.

Very friendly. Staff helpful in spite of being very busy sometimes. They have a quiet hour between 9 and 10am on a Saturday. One freaky security guard who follows people around and stares, but he might be unwell. THe other, taller one is very helpful.

My local Morrisons back home is nothing like this! It's like walking into a slightly busier Waitrose. Very easy to find however not a lot of car parking which can be an issue.
