Morrisons Cardiff - Newport Road Cafe in Cardiff

Arrived about 10.45, cafe had many empty seats. Took a while to find a clean table, gave up and used my own tissues to wipe seat and table (no serviettes available). Food debris in all the seating crevices had obviously been there for days. Had to hunt for clean cups and teapots as some were dirty. The whole serving area is dirty and needs a good clean. Service to the table was good, breakfast not so. Veggie breakfast had a buttered thin white toast plonked on top of it all, horrible tasting veg sausages dumped on the egg, watery beans, raw tomato, greasy hash browns and a pot of smashed avocado that had been mixed with too much lemon juice and something else.. looked liked a combination of mushy peas with chunks of yellowish avocado. The full breakfast was no better and the £1 extra for the black pudding was a joke. Same uncooked tomato, toast plonked on top, fatty bacon, greasy hash browns, watery beans, the worst meat sausages ever, over cooked, the egg was unrecognisable when it was found under the black pudding. Black pudding was rock hard almost dehydrated, wonder if they used the microwave? There are plenty of staff in this cafe, all with hair nets on. More hand washing would be good....gathering plates and serving food straight after with no hand washing is a no no. Why when collecting plates, can't that member of staff wipe tables and chairs? How can a cafe be that filthy so early in the day? Didn't take our plates back to the overflowing used plate shelf area, left them neatly stacked on table in the hope one of the many members of staff would clean the table for the next person.....

Tried to order food on screen,no chance. Items disappeared when ordering next items. No cups,told to use paper take away cups. No one seemed to be in charge,or interested . Eventually someone came to till to take orders. Told 20 minutes waiting time,which turned into 30 minutes. Food when arrived was wrong,but we accepted it as we were hungry. Most of it was inedible. We should have realised this by leftover food lying uncollected on plates across cafe. Staff walking back empty handed to kitchen after delivering food. Where's the Supervisor? Feel a bit silly writing this,as it's obvious going by other reviews nobody reads them,and if they do,no action to improve things is taken. Other Morrisons Cafes are brilliant,this one is grim.

The most abysmal service I have ever received. How staff can get away with being so rude I don’t know. Food took ages to arrive and was luke warm from sitting there while the server was chatting away. Then the attitude was disgusting. Never again. Avoid at all costs.

What absolute rubbish No breakfast no hot food and can you believe no HOT water We walked out This happens most sundays I don't understand why it's called a cafe

Absolutely terrible cafe in morrisons Newport Road. I have tried it sooo many times over the years and always had an issue there and walked out. Never have we visited there and been happy. Cafe in morrisons over bay is lovely though

Very disappointing breakfast, avocado on toast with poached eggs. Bread wasn't even toasted properly (basically bread with avocado on!) Last time I came here it was on a malted bloomer bread which was actually quite nice! Now it was on two thin pieces of bread, when I complained about the bread being different they stated that they no longer use the malted bloomer bread. If so they should let customers know this so they can actually have the decision of having the breakfast or not. Staff always seem pretty miserable in the cafe, no smile whatsoever. Morrissons cafe is not the best experience, very disappointed. Staff in the actual supermarket are lovely and helpful but the cafe is a completely different atmosphere 👎

I was (for some reason) craving for a nice piece of cod..Now I opt for the small portion as I was more peckish than anything and didn't want to waste anything. I asked the lady at the till if I could have a small salad instead of chips, she said "Yes, fine." After a few minutes my lunch arrived......................,.............................Amazing !! Cod was the freshest I've had for a long time. Good size portions. And at a very good price. Top marks ! Gary

I ordered a full breakfast my wife had a small breakfast with her's she doesn't like fried egg when I mentioned I wish to change before I could tell the colleague I was told you can't change items. I then explained i wanted scrambled instead of fried. Both breakfast arrived mine no sausages no flat mushroom when I told the head chef he was shocked I had been told before purchasing the breakfast, the missing items were replaced by 1 extra slice bacon and 1 fried egg on mine my wife was a hash brown. Needless to say I would not recommend Morrison today and it will be a longtime before I'll come again.

Absolutely shambles of a cafe rude and attitude went hand in hand. Half items sold out told no substitute. Seemed too much trouble for them to go to store and get packet fish fingers for kids meals or mash or even puddings for the £8.99 meal deal. Won't ever go there again walked out me and my family went elsewhere we know when our custom isn't wanted!

Run out of fish yet again, elderly relative not happy. milk for tea had to take from kettle pot at side of cutlery area. Elderly like traditional fish and chips etc on a Friday

Purchased two course Christmas lunch for 9.99 Was then told it won’t be ready for 45mins. I asked why as it states it’s from 11.30am I was inform3d they only have one oven. Was refunded 9.50 in cash. I have no idea why I was charged 49p for sitting in the cafe waiting for lunch. Grumpy staff which often means not enough staff hence overworked staff become grumpy. I will not try eating here again as it costs 49p when they can not deliver Although it would make the staff more happy as all they would need to do is hand out refunds minus 49p and be in total profit without doing a thing

Just been to coffee shop in Morrisons Newport Rd Cardiff, with 8 friends, after not going for many months, due to poor service and lack of coffee machine. Can't believe it, STILL NO COFFEE MACHINES WORKING!

low stock on food which i understand, however a customers egg was dropped so they had mine. was offered a sausage in a roll as a substitute but was given a sausage on its own… 2/5 instead of 1/5 as the lady serving us was lovely

We wanted to go here after shopping, as their new menu looks appetising. We ordered a lasagne and sausage, egg chips and beans. The machine was working so we had no receipt. When the food came, we had no garlic bread and no egg. So we told the server and she can back with buttered bread and an egg. When we asked them they said that there was no garlic bread. The buttered bread was covered in toast crumb and other bits. Wish we went elsewhere

Went for a quick lunch yesterday, hoping for a sandwich and coffee with my mother before we did our shopping. It was 12pm, no sandwiches, when we asked at the counter, we were told they didn’t have any!!! So ordered quiche, person on the counter bellowed ‘do we have quiche, yeah we do you can have that’ also ordered ham and cheese toastie again bellowed ‘do we have ham and cheese toastie, yeah you can have that’. The food arrived finally (the person on the till put in 30 instead of 13 and then said for some reason SOMEONE had entered it wrong implying one of her poor colleagues was at fault). So disappointed in the service, when the cafe reopened it was really good but now I wouldn’t go there or recommend it if they paid me.

Went in for breakfast this morning to be told that there was no hot food available because they had run out of plates.what a joke.

We went for a English Breakfast on a Sunday morning, was brilliant! Service was quick & staff were lovely, food was a 10/10. Amazing atmosphere for a couples breakfast & was very cheap for the quality of the food.
