Morrish's Fish Restaurant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

I have the privilege of travelling all over Cornwall and Devon for work and have done for 17 years, as I am regularly in Four Lanes I have eaten at this chip shop for many years, though not many times a year. Well no more after todays visit, The “Gastro” Steak and Ale Pie £5.60, the top of which was as hard as leather, not sure how many time it had been heated and cooled. The Gravy (see picture) £1.70 was a thin brownish liquid the like of which you might see come out of you have a bout of dodgy tummy, I threw it away. Small chips £2.90 should be called SMALL chips, I have added a picture of the packet with sunglasses on top to gauge the size, it wasn’t full even that small size, the chips were at least OK. Why didn’t I go back and complain, to be honest I couldn’t see a member of staff who looked older than late teens and didn’t want to make their work shift awkward or uncomfortable. I ate what I could, the contents of the pie were nice, the chips no better or worse than a million other chippies the grave vile. I won’t be back.

Lovely food. Excellent milk shakes. Couldn't fault the food. However, the service let the score down. Not enough staff. Only 2 serving. They did the best they could under the circumstances. I did feel sorry for them.

This place isn't your standard fish and chip shop. It's got a regular large menu offer of freshly cooked food. Takeaway area has a large seating space whilst you wait. A restaurant sits to the front and side which looks lovely. Pleasant and professional staff, great tasty food.

My family and i visited here last night and i was very disappointed no gf option despite after googling 'gluten free fish and chips' and Morrish being named as offering this option. This was also supported with reviews of how good this was. Morrish need to make it clear they no longer offer this option to avoid further customers disappointment.

The best fish and chips I've had in a long time...fish was flakey and melted in your mouth,batter light and crispy..I ordered the small plate haddock,chips amd Cury sauce was more like the size of a standard.will deffo be back...

Ordered vegan chips-they were not what I expected and seemed to be oven cooked fries. Thin, dry and luke warm. Regular chips were cold and soggy. Burger had no sauce and tasted dry. Had to wait longer than expected with no apology. Not recommended.

After waiting half an hour for our food we travelled back to our granddaughters place in Scorrier to find the order was incomplete after travelling all the way back to there with now cold food due to the incomplete order we were simply told they would redo the order but nothing in way of compensation strongly suggest you avoid this place as I had to travel back at my expense due to their mess up

Stopped on way to our holiday cottage for some lunch to bring back. Ordered scampi and chips twice costing over 20.00. It was advertised as being with tartar sauce. Once back opened boxes no tartare sauce in either scampi ok and hot chips were cold not even like warm! The chips were also like the dredgers from the bottom of the fryer all small and hard, and had obviously bee laying around for ages to be so cold. Very angry as felt ripped off. Our local chippy at home does the same but butter for 15.00!

Visited this evening for the first time after a couple of recommendations we chose to have a takeaway as car park was pretty full. Chips were pale and soggy. Sausages were disgusting no taste and dripping with oil totally inedible. Mushy peas were a solid block not mushy at all. Will NOT be returning.

Brilliant food and friendly Staff. They did so well on providing great service with only two members of staff serving the restaurant side. Highly recommend. Food was very good and decent prices.

We placed a take away order for collection. We were given a 5 minute window to collect our order. I made it in time, told them I was there for collection and they said “we’ll get that ready for you now”. Surely that time frame was for collection and the order should have been ready? I was then asked if I wanted salt and vinegar (despite this being stipulated on the order which items were to include). When I got it home we were missing the fish cake. Food was okay but not great. Service poor due to the order not being ready and missing something we had paid for, leaving my family disappointed they didn’t get their things. I emailed but didn’t get a response.

Well very surprised it’s been years since I’ve been here and we are extremely impressed, really good service, excellent. Food, highly recommend!

It wasn't busy at all 6 tables seated at most, told to take a seat in restaurant, waited 20 minutes or more for the waitress to come over, she first went to a table who came in after us, they told her we were there first, she did take our order of fish & chips & a pot of tea..then disappeared again, came back 10 minutes later with the tea, in the mean time she had taken the other tables meal order, we waited another 15 minutes for our meal, tea was cold, no extra hot water pot, she then served the table that came in after us their meals, so we got up & left, I went to pay for the tea on way out & the same waitress wanted to charge us for our meals, hardly busy to not realise she hadn't served us, I said sorry we have to go, very slow service, have to make an appointment, no apology..£4.90 for a pot of tea we didn't drink as we wanted to save it for our meal..never again

Been a few times I also go in July when we holiday in cornwall. Staff are really friendly, food is lovely and just the right portion size. What's also great is they allow dogs, as long as the well behaved and not causing a problem Looking forward to going back

Chips very dry no taste. Even with salt and vinegar. Add no taste. This is a shame . As I was looking forward to them . But not again

I wanted to take my extended family, who were visiting Cornwall, to a nice fish and chip shop before their long drive home. I have recently had to go gluten free and luckily have not had to miss out on get togethers with my friends as I found out Morrish’s had some very nice gluten free options. However, last night I found out that they have had to stop offering this due to various reasons and sadly their whole menu appeared to be more limited for vegetarian/vegan options which they also used to offer. I know you go to a fish restaurant primarily for fish and chips but there are a lot more people choosing either a plant based diet or have food intolerances who would still like to go for meals with family who enjoy fish and chips. My family felt very guilty about eating when there was nothing on the menu I could have but I insisted that they ordered. To be fair they enjoyed their meals but if you are gluten free and visiting Cornwall I can recommend Mariners in Penryn and Port and Starboard in Indian Queens for very good gluten free options. For locals I have seen that Darren’s in Redruth offer gluten free but isn’t a restaurant but I’ll be popping in to give it a try.

I left a similar review previously and the reply offered a promise to change. This is a follow-up review to say nothing has changed. The food is still average, but that’s not the issue, the ongoing issue is the online ordering service. I don’t understand why you still have an online ordering service, it doesn’t work, it hasn’t worked for ages. I ordered this evening for a 6:00 to 605 slot arriving at 6 o’clock by 6:10 I gave up and came in and my order was nowhere near the front of the queue. I left at 6:15 with my order. Just accept your system doesn’t work and scrap it.

Tonight I sent my son to get us a large portion of chips as a side dish to go with chicken for our tea. I was shocked when he returned with this (photo attached) how can you call this a large portion of chips worth £4.20

Visiting from Canada went for dinner we had fish and chips was fantastic , the banana milkshake I had was tasty Service was fantastic , dinner came quickly and staff was attentive Sadly it’s too far from Canada to frequent the restaurant but when I return will have another meal there

Arrived in pouring rain, parked and the wife and I ran into the restaurant in the hope we could get a table and a bite to eat. We have eaten here before, many times years ago, and again last year when I posted a review of our experience at that time. We were greeted by a charming young lady who showed us to a table, gave us menus and seemingly continued preparing for the evening service. She took our order, our meals turning up in good time, freshly cooked and piping hot. Personally I love traditional Cod and Chips, and what was put in front of both the wife and I were certainly that. Lovely chunky white cod, chips with that 'traditional' flavour but not dripping in grease, a real tasty pot of tea for two...........Ansum. I speak as I find, and reading some of the previous comments wonder if we visited the same venue. Our meals were nothing short of perfection, and the service.....faultless, even to the point of my passing a well deserved tip to our waitress, being politely informed all staff share tips and that there was a collection pot on the counter, so fair play to you maid. We have eaten in other Fish and Chip Restaurants, even cafes in Cornwall where a 'discretionary' service charge is added to your bill, most in my experience not really deserved but if I've enjoyed my evening and the meal is decent, then Hey Ho, why not. As regards our visit to Morrishs' on this occasion I can only compliment the staff in entirety. Great work guys, congratulations on a job well done.

We go to Morrishes on a regular basis and thoroughly enjoy it, but it would seem they are aiming more now towards the holiday maker, and pricing locals out completely with fish & chips at nearly £16.00 if you sit in, maybe they think they are on a parr with Rick Stein? very disappointing, unfortunately we won't be going there in the near future as other fish restaurants are way cheaper, and taste just as good. I appreciate the cost of living has risen for everyone, but to put prices up by that amount is truly dissappointing.

Normally I would pick up the positives to the negatives but I can’t on this visit. When entering we was greeted by 2 girls one who was talking about her night with the manager in the staff room and one that was just listening they finally stopped talking and seated us where we had been forgotten about and so many dirty plates around us, it was a quiet evening and when asking if i cod have a baked cod I was told no straight away which I explained I come in alot and normally they say let me check so the family all had nice meals and I just had chips when leaving we mentioned that private life shouldn’t be spoken about around customers where the waitress called us a liar to my face. I will not be returning back to her anytime soon and I hope she has a lovely time with the manager in the staff room which is located to the right by where we was sat

We passed this shop and thought a nice supper to take home. Went into the shop and there was a touch screen order machine which we used. One chips, battered sausage, curry sauce and pea fritter. My partner is a vegetarian so thought it would be okay. As I paid for the order she noticed a notice that said everything was cooked in beef dripping. We asked if we could cancel the order - no was the answer. Could the pea fritter be cooked as a vege option - again no. All they could do was split the chips so we had one normal and one veggie. Not helpful and the owner wouldn’t come and talk just passed info through one of the girls. Not impressed as it would have been very easy to refund and change the order! Charged 25p to split the chips for an extra box.

Lovely non greasy fish and chips. Best fish and chips in Cornwall and a great place for the family well worth a visit. Staff just as lovely

Driving back to my digs in Newquay from Helston about half way on Buckett’s Hill I drive into an amazing take away called Morrish’s Fish Restaurant And Takeaway. The Server Finn was Very polite and rapidly got my order together, great for his second shift! And the food was delicious would top a domino’s or kebab house any day of the week.. 🤤👌🏁🏁 +++++*****

I had large cod and chips plus peas. 3 small plates, chicken nuggets and 2 x fish and chips. We dined in. Lovely restaurant clean and the server was lovely. Had fantastic experience. The fish I had was fresh flaky and beautiful. Its tough time s for fish and chip shops but we had a great meal for just over £40. I haven't posted much recently but have eaten out regularly. This is by far the best fish and chips I've had in Cornwall since coming home 2 years ago and beats anything I've had in Falmouth recently

We have been hearing about Morrish's for years, and now that we actually live in Redruth it was surely time to give them a try. Friendly staff, efficient ordering, freshly cooked, and at £9,50 for F&C I thought it was good value for this day and age. I have seen them far more expensive in other locations in Cornwall. Everything was well cooked and piping hot, take away on this occasion although I noted there was a restaurant section too. We couldn't finish all our chips, which tells you all you need to know, as it is rare I cannot polish the lot off! Will certainly return.

Food is okay but don’t order online and expect it to arrive when you ordered it for. They give you a five minute slot and then when it’s 10 minutes late don’t even apologise.

Visited today, the first day out of lockdown. The cod and chips was awesome. The coffee was brewed to perfection. We were served by Angela. Service with a smile as always. Restaurant was spotless and their Covid measures are strictly enforced. It made us feel safe. Thank you.

Usually very good but on 17/11/20 was really poor, taste was horrible, everything was just wrong, greasy odd taste, might try somewhere else for a while, not paying for that again.

Chose to go hear again as Lanner chip shop is closed on a Monday. Just ordered 2 portions of chips. Not a single polite word from the staff who took the order. After waiting for the chips to be brought to my car for over 20 minutes went back in to find my order sitting on the side. No apology. Next time instead of waiting 20 minutes for chips will use the time to drive to a good chip shop like cousin jacks in pengegon.

Been isolating for so long, decided to get take-away from Morrish's. On arrival, we checked out the restaurant and it appeared so organised and safety conscious, that we ate in instead. It was great, felt really safe and protected. Angela, our waitress, made sure that everything was done by the rules. Been 3 times now, and will continue to visit places that make us feel safe. Well done, Morrish's.

While visiting the local area last week, we popped into Morrish's for a take-away fish supper. The fish (both cod & haddock) were excellent, the batter was lovely and crispy and the chips were great. Perhaps just one tiny criticism; the mushy peas were a little bit runny for my taste but apart from that, definitely a five star meal. The service was quick and efficient and their way of dealing with the Covid situation was well thought out, taking your car number when you order and promptly bringing the meal out to you in the spacious car park. All in all, a nice experience and one I'd happily repeat.

Dropped in for a sit down meal. Staff member was very helpful and polite. At present most of their customers are take away, ordering from their cars, then having their orders brought out to them. Very pleasant decor inside. Recommend.

Disappointing visit here for a fish and chip night.Nice main restaurant but we were stuck in a depressing side room with no ambience.The waitresses seemed very stressed, we ordered our drinks but had to repeatedly ask for them before they arrived midway through our meal.Fish and chips were ok but quite expensive.

It is always a real treat to go for lunch at Morrish's even more so today after months of lock down, all the appropriate Covid safety measures are in place and knowing we were being kept safe made the food taste even better than ever. Thank you to Angela and the team for looking after us so well.

COVID 19 regulations strictly adhered to and good to see the staff wearing masks.Served by friendly and attentive staff. Food served quickly and it was piping hot and of a good portion size. Ordered cod and chips x2 and it was very tasty, the fish was superb. Dessert if you have room for one was great to. We had chocolate fudge cake and treacle sponge. Massive portions and the sponge was the best I’ve had in any restaurant as was the custard. Great value meal particularly having used the government 50% off deal. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Fantastic food,especially the cod, served hot and relatively quickly! Restaurant seemed very under-staffed, meaning they didn't take our order for a good while when we'd sat down and we didn't receive our drinks until long after the food was served. This is no disrespect to the staff, they were lovely, they were just under too much pressure for the over booked restaurant!

We ordered a take online and were very impressed with the service. We arrived a little bit before the time be had booked. We waited in the car for a few minutes and our order was delivered to the car. The food was still hot when we arrived home and because the fish and chips were in cardboard boxes they had not gone soggy and were still crispy. Fish was slightly dry but still definitely the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long while.

Been a regular visitor for many years. Post 'lockdown' thought I'd pay a visit. Decided to order a large cod, small chips and peas. Was staggered to discover that it came to a whopping £10.80p (not sure what I was expected to eat it with, nothing was supplied, luckily I had an old wooden fork kicking around in my vehicle. At those prices I was expecting it to becdelivered on a silver platter with cutlery!) With regular cod retailing at £4.95 and large cod a whopping £7.25, I really struggled to see how they could justify the hike in price as the 'large' cod was very similar in size to the 'regular' pieces I've had in the past. Very disappointing. Needless to say, I wont be going back and will take my custom, in future, elsewhere.

Ordered from online menu to pick up at specified time. Arrived at the time we chose and was delicious. Also pleased to see recyclable / combustible cartons and packaging too! By providing car reg order delivered to car window. All very straightforward. Highly recommend.
