Moriston Restaurant in Highland

We visited a lot of restaurants and hotels on our way through the Scottish Highlands. This restaurant pleasantly surprised us. Best dinner and food of the entire stay in Scotland. Nice staff, atmosphere in the restaurant and excellent food. We recommend !!!

We had an excellent dinner at this restaurant. We had the venison for our main course and it was cooked perfectly and with a very nice composition at the plate. They also have a good selection of wines. The service was very good and friendly. They fully deserve all the acclaims that they have received. PS. We tried to make a table reservation through the hotel’s homepage, but it did not go through, so we phoned them and had it sorted out. Another example of their fine service.

We also ate lunch - my wife's "favourite soup ever" - potato and Leek and a tuna sandwich for me, but has already booked dinner there too. I started with a wonderful mushroom ravioli and my wife had a different pea and broccoli soup. I had the fish and chips for main and she had a chick pea curry - the only vegan choice. That was ok, but very mild. I also had a sumptuous chocolate dessert All the food was excellent - but very pricey. I chose the fish and chips at £16 because the other fish dish, with new potatoes was £26, and the wines, although we found a good one, were at vastly inflated prices. Excellent service though and excellent food with a lot of choice.

Arrivé à l'improviste et sans réservation, nous avons été très aimablement reçu et servi. Diner de qualité. Très bon rapport qualité/prix pour les environs (et hors des touristes du Loch Ness).

Goed diner in gezellig restaurant. Voorgerecht van zalm en Fish & Chips als hoofdgerecht. Kaasplank na met een Sandeman 20 years. Top!

Nice hotel/ restaurant. Great service and and a beautiful composed menu. The restaurant has a great ambiance. Eating in the bar was nice bud didn’t have the ambiance.

Our group of six dropped in for breakfast and were very glad we did. We were welcomed even though we were not guests at the lodging part of the property. Located in very pretty spot near Fort Augustus. We did call ahead to let them know we were coming and would suggest others do so if not staying at the property.

Ate here at while in Invermoriston for the night. I opted for fish and chips which was good, but found the batter a little too greasy; fish was delicious though so was more than happy to eat that. Very quiet the evening that I passed through. Welcoming staff.

The food was great - and the staff very friendly, they were able to accommodate my daughter, who has coeliac and is vegetarian.

A very pleasant surprise to find a restaurant of this quality in this small town. Advance bookings are a great idea to assure a spot. We enjoyed very good service in a white tablecloth setting and thoroughly enjoyed the elegantly presented meal. The bar has a very nice selection of whisky. A recommended stop.

Had a fabulous meal. Steak was cooked perfectly and the sweet was to die for. All the staff were friendly and very efficient.

A perfect meal to top off a lovely weekend in Glenmoriston. Really great for gluten free options (even though not many marked on the menu) - one very happy coeliac after getting a gluten free arancini and a choice of desserts including sticky toffee pudding! Food was superb, the staff super helpful and friendly - couldn't recommend more!

Ailsa and her team excelled when our family (three generations) had a pre-booked dinner there on 27th July 2021. It was a surprise for my wife, and most of our extended family were there- including a teenager and two under tens. (10 of us in total) The menu options were great and the food quality and service was first class. Everyone of the restaurant team were so friendly and they even slipped in a Birthday Card and chocolates as a wee extra (on the house). We had ordered a specially made birthday cake from a Café round the corner, (The Glen Rowan Café- also a great place) which was delivered to the restaurant and they brought it through with a cake firework to the sound of "Happy Birthday" that the other dinners joined in with. Can't thank you all enough. Hope business continues to thrive.

Plenty of parking around. Its the only option for eating in the village, so book a table to be sure. Shortish classic menu to suit most tastes. I was drawn to their unusual vegan vegetable pasta, which was excellent and good value. With dinks and a tip, look to pay around £40- £50 a head.

This is a good quality restaurant cooking the best of local fare to perfection. Great venison and salmon in a highly professional and friendly setting.

De har både et hyggeligt bar- og restaurantmiljø. Betjeningen var hyggeligt og ikke mindst venlig, og så fik vi en dejlig frokost. Prisen var lidt dyr, men 5 minutter væk fra Loch Ness bred, så er det belligenheden man betaler for. Alt i alt et fint sted.

Staying at Darroch View B & B and went to the Glenmoriston Arms Hotel for dinner. We had our best ever dinner in Scotland at this absolutely wonderful restaurant. The food was superb. I had the chicken stuffed with haggis and my brother had a beautiful venison steak. Entres and dessert were just as good. Would drive 100 miles for food like that.

..with the village being so small and so many people needing an evening meal we were lucky to accept a small table for 4 in the bar..lucky?..yes because the food, drink and service was excellent..everything we asked for was managed well and we all left well and truly full..the atmosphere at the hotel is superb and only adds to an excellent eveing..

We were staying in the B&B next door but called in for drinks on arriving on foot from Fort Augustus. The service was good and the menu looked good so we reserved a table for supper. When we returned the dining room was busy but again the service was slick. I chose the venison casserole as did my wife. We both thought it was excellent - especially washed down with a good bottle of Merlot. We then shared the cheese board which was ok but not great. We had enjoyed our meal and the ambiance and service were first class.

How refreshing to find a restaurant that are happy to accommodate you for a meal with no booking. We were driving from Inverness to Skye and had no idea when we would arrive. We parked, went in and were greeted by a smile. If we didn’t mind sitting in the bar, which was fine, we had a table straight away. Good service and great food. Thank you for being so helpful.

The hotel offers a really wide selection of fresh food (we saw the ceps being picked by the chef). The staff were very friendly and together with the tasty food makes this a place I'd go back to even if there was a choice of places to eat.

I had the vegetable curry and my husband had the salmon. Both were beautifully presented and more importantly delicious. Fresh, well prepared meals and the staff were wonderful. Attentive and very pleasant. Highly recommend eating in the restaurant as it's a beautifully decorated room and has a wonderful atmosphere

Die Möblierung ist sehr elegant und luxuriös. Die Atmosphäre aber trotzdem gemütlich. Man fühlt sich gut aufgehoben. Das Essen war sehr gut, ganz besonders aber empfehlen wir den Käseteller zum Dessert zu bestellen. Echt herrlich. Nur einen bestellen, es gibt so viel, das reicht für zwei Personen nach einem umfangreichen Abendessen vollkommen. Bedienung war perfekt, professionell und sehr zuvorkommend.

Decor, food and staff all lovely. Also has a fab little lounge to relax after dinner. Have been three times now and never disappoints

We are both lunch and dinner at this property. If you choose wisely, you can eat pretty well. Our lunch favorite was the grilled goat cheese and cranberry sandwich. For dinner, the roasted goat cheese salad starter was very good. Our penne arribiata was similar to what you might get from a jar in the US, but the dish was edible. The wine list is not impressive, but reasonably priced. Service was young and inexperienced, but hard working.

There's not much choice in the town so during busy periods you will definitely need to book ahead for the restaurant which is in the Glenmoriston Arms Hotel. Unfortunately this is not a reflection of the food. We found the dishes out of place considering the location of hotel. Our vegetables comprised of one large piece of carrot, courgette and turnip. Rather than a plate it came in a large bowl which meant the veg was presented on top of the food. If you're going to prepare and present food in a haute cuisine style you have to get it right. However, in our opinion it's better to deliver dishes which emphasise local Scottish preferences.

Very handy for the Great Glen Way this is a small hotel restaurant. Good quality food in comfortable surroundings and courteius and friendly staff. Recommended.

We went for dinner and had the mains and desserts, (see photos) the sticky toffee pudding wasn't as good as our local one which I use as the benchmark.

Il ristorante era pieno e siamo state accomodate nella zona pub, abbiamo cenato con un buonissimo fish and chips e buona birra. Il servizio è molto veloce e cordiale e il cibo è buono, certamente un posto da tenere in considerazione.

Excellent service with starters and Chicken with Haggis mains - very nice. Dessert was a Chocolate and Banana cake which required a little effort to eat. Beer was Belhaven which was a bit disappointing. Overall a good evening that might have been a little better,

We went twice. The first time it was great. Their highland platter was very good and good value for money.

I did have 2 different main dishes and starters. All were excellent and I couldn't make an additional dessert fit in as portions were generous. Value for money is really good here. They do offer daily specials so check the blackboard before ordering! The staff is nice and mindful, also they are used to handle people with not so good english knowledge so if you don't understand every word they will try discribing.

The reception staff at the hotel were able to find us a slot on the day we wanted and were very helpful even though we were non residents and they were very full. The meal was served quickly and with lovely service from the waiting staff. The food was excellent and sourced locally. Prices were about what you would expect for the location and type of establishment. Recommended.

Dropped in for dinner and a pint; was not disappointed. We had the venison casserole; absolutely delicious. Prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. Built in 1740, with a great friendly feel about the place. We would certainly eat there again and would happily recommend it to others.

Really lovely restaurant, extremely friendly and helpful service. Both my son and I asked to tweak menu items and were accommodated without any problems and our meals were delicious. Highly recommend. After a hard day of running and walking Great Glenn Way we needed a filling healthy tasty meal and we found it here.

My husband and I had our best dinner yet in Scotland at the Moriston Restaurant. Every detail was well done. We had the mushroom crustini for an appetizer. I had the mushroom/spinach linguini and my husband had the seabass special. We also ordered side salads. Every dish was delicious and had a lovely presentation. The service was great. It was a great night out after a long day of walking along the Great Glen Way. It was also nice that they accepted credit cards.

The hotel restaurant was simply marvelous. Dress was casual thank goodness, The menu selection was super. We had venison and other tasty morsels. That same day we ate at the cafe next door and it was also superb. All in all, I highly recommend Glenmoriston for lodging and eats.

There is only one place to eat in the evening in Invermoriston if like us you are arriving on foot so it's lucky that the Glenmoriston Arms is really very nice. Good food prepared with a bit of extra care and friendly staff. The beer ad whisky are good too.

The food is very well cooked and the coffee was particularly good. the service was excellent on 13th and indifferent on 16th. Nice location, and choice of bar or restaurant meals.

I had a reservation, which is highly recommended you do, and arrived a lil early. I was escorted to my table right away with no delay. The dining area is very comfortable, warm and welcoming. I ordered the Salmon filet dinner. This meal did not disappoint in any way!!! My beverage choice was Bellhaven Best Lager, this was served very cold, just the way it should be. The Wait Staff was spot on!! Despite the large number of guest dining, the Staff did an excellent job.

This is the only place to have dinner in Invermoriston, and it is actually very good. I had a Venison Stroganoff which was absolutely lovely, and a nice red wine. Service was good too, and the dining room really cosy.

A mid way treat on the Great Glen Way this is an excellent place for a special evening meal. An imaginative menu combined with efficient and friendly staff, we would love to return.

the atmosphere is really cozy and "familiar" at the restaurant, but also the bar area looked very inviting (in case you didn´t get a seat in the restaurant). the food is delicious, well prepared for all senses. worth a few miles drive, but make a reservation!

I get that Scotland isn't known for its culinary delights but on our recent 10 day trip to the highlands, this restaurant unanimously won our family's worst of the worst. We stopped for lunch while looking for Nessie. We had 2 wraps, a roast beef and mustard sandwich and MAC and cheese. The sandwich contained 2 slices of bread, a slice of unappetizing roast beef and mustard. The wraps were meager and the MAC and cheese uninspiring. To add insult to injury, the 60 pound price tag was the highest we paid for lunch on our trip.

We recently stayed for 4 nights at Darroch View B & B in Invermoriston (an excellent little B & B by the way). The Glenmoriston Arms is about 200 yards away. We had read the recent mixed reviews, but decided to try it on our first night. The food and service were first class and we ended up eating there on all 4 nights. I can only assume that the bad chef has now gone. Between us we had 6 items from their menu and couldn't fault any of them. We hope to return to Loch Ness in a couple of years and will definitely choose Darroch View B & B and The Glenmoriston restaurant again.

I went there as a challenge as I had seen two different sets of reviews Brilliant and Poor not much in the middle. Apologies to the young lady I criticized for her harsh comments prior to visiting.She was spot on a lacklustre started of salmon and my medium steak was awful, the Potato Roti with her chicken and haggis rotiated round her guts for a whole night before reappearing.Staff were really nice but something is not good in the kitchen, may be one Chef is good and the other should go back to MacDonalds.In short Scotland offers some great produce but if you truly want to taste it at its best then The Moriston has a long way to go to get consistency I will not be back until the reviews polarise towards the Excellent

Perfect assortment of somewhat unusual foods highlighting the local fare, such as wild mushroom crostini, venison casserole in a juniper/wine reduction, pea soup, and a wild berry shortbread sundae with "luxury" vanilla ice cream. Make sure you make reservations ahead of time, as this is the only game in town. Great selection of beers on tap as well.

We ate here while staying at Craik Na Dav B&B on our walk through the Great Glen. It is a 5 minute walk from the B&B. The food, wine and service was excellent. Very nice dining room. Do make a reservation. I would definitely eat here again.

Located within a quaint and traditional pub, this restaurant offers both pub meals and restaurant meals, which are all very good. This is a great spot for a large meal, a small lunch or a quick pint.

I hate wasting money on poor food, me and my girlfriend went out for an evening meal and I have to say the starters were amazing but the mains were appalling! Wasted £45 and felt utterly disappointed! The chips were like rocks and inedible, the burger was honestly foul just looking at it could give you food poising but after eating less than half my girlfriend could feel her belly disagreeing . When we informed the lady at the bar, as the waitress did not ask how the food was maybe she's used to people leaving full plates, her reaction was actually non existent she ignored what I said and walked away and someone else took our payment. What poor service and just a complete let down, won't be seeing us there again even if the smoked salmon starter was divine .

Wish we'd stayed here! but eating here was a definite good call. A good range of foods on the menu with something for everyone. Can deffo recommend the Cullen Skink starter (best one I've tasted yet) and couldn't fault anything we had. One of he servants had difficulty understanding English, but we eventually managed to sort out what we wanted. Please eat here if you get the chance

Very good lunch here - wonderful smoked salmon on brown bread with horseradish and a salad and beverage all for a very reasonable price. Great charming staff and a very unique Inn.

The focus here is on beef and game. We had the Sunday roast beef and the venison--both good. Also enjoyed the cheese plat for dessert.

We came down the Great Glen Way coming from Fort Augustus and enjoyed a cold beer at the pub. Good selection of tap beer. The pub also serves food but we opted for a dinner at the restaurant.The menu was with good selections. The lamb shank was a popular choice and very tasty. Fish and chips was very good too. Wine selection was limited but worked OK for us.

Have been travelling around Ireland, Scotland and Europe for the past 9 weeks, this was the worst food I have had in all that time.My husband and I stopped for lunch on our way up to northern Scotland.My soup was OK, although tasted sweet, unusual for a vegetable soup. My husband had a terrine which was very bland, on a salad of yellowish rocket leaves. I then had a grilled goats cheese on a beetroot salad. There were 3 very small pieces of beetroot & about 5 old yellow rocket leaves, which made up the salad. The goats cheese was totally inedible. Took me hours to get the taste out of my mouth. My husband then had haggis, tatties and neeps. These were also bland - no flavour. Spent good money on inedible food. Hope it was just a bad day for the chef, but if not they need to improve their game.

This was a good choice for Sunday lunch. Tender beef, huge Yorkshire pudding and well cooked vegetables. Sadly no room for sweet. Friendly helpful staff.

As they is not a lot in the village where you can get an evening meal this is where I went. The good was lovely and the wine choices were good. The services was a little slow but good value for money.

I visited here with a friend whilst doing the Great Glen Way. It was her birthday and the blisters had caused her to pull out of the second half of the day's walk. When I arrived at the hotel at the end of my walk I asked that we put some balloons up for dinner for her. The blonde lady who I spoke to was delightful. Friendly, helpful and so kind. When we came in for dinner she came and wished us well, the food was delicious and we felt really well cared for. It was a brilliant end to what had been a bit of a ropey birthday. Many thanks.

Beautiful setting and so pleased to accommodate our dog and baby! Starters for us were salmon and pigeon, both of which were lovely. Mains were venison casserole and haggis. Wasn't overly impressed- small portion, looked reheated and served in small soup-type bowls. Dessert was another success though.

So much potential .......... the ambience was that of an upmarket shooting lodge , well decorated and very comfortable .The service was I have to say first class polite , prompt and friendly .The food is where it all fell down , I'm sorry to say I thought our entire meal was convenience food and if it wasn't then there's definitely something wrong with the cooking ......... a tough piece of gammon , an over cooked stuffed piece of chicken a starter of haggis that was bland and looked like something you might get at breakfast not the way to treat the chieftain of highland puddings! On the plus side the steak was good.The flaws in the meal were noted and deducted from the bill but all too late I'm afraid ........ it's a shame because there is "so much potential "

Managed to get a night together and take Lesley out for dinner. Went to Invermoriston for food at the hotel. The new decor looks great. A nice quiet night and a table in the restaurant. Started with the mushroom crostini which was rich and creamy. I went for the saddle of venison for my main. It was cooked perfect at medium rare. Lovely jus reduction accompanied lots of veg. Lesley went for the haggis stuffed chicken and the clean plate summed it up. A nice start to the year. Thanks Ailsa and Hamish.

Very accommodating and great food. We didn't wait long, I recommend the The waitress was nice and very friendly.

We had a nice lunch here after going for a walk. Nice atmosphere. It was a little warm where we were sitting as it was a sunny day and our table was near a window. Food was good and so was the service

We had dinner here while staying locally. The food was good however we felt a little over priced. The roast venison was nice but a bit over cooked for my taste however still pleasant and was hot sadly not really enough to class as a full portion but did come with a mountain of veg. My husband had the stake asked for medium but was definitely rare in the middle but as had eaten a quarter of it was now a bit late to do much about it . We both opted to have desert again the food was fine but at £5.00 each a bit over priced . The service was ok the lady that greeted us was nice and welcomed us but when trying to pay we had to stand for a good 5 minutes before we got an apologie for the wait I don't mind waiting but I did feel that I was being ignored while they tried to sort out an issue with one of the bear pumps . Over all experience was fine but probably would rather make the trip to fort Augustus.

They were doing work on the outside of the hotel but do not let that stop you. I had breakfast and diners here. The food is delicious and local and the prices are excellent. The wait staff is friendly and helpful in finding things to do and visit after you eat!

Le restaurant du Glenmoriston arms est le seul restaurant d'Invermoriston, alors nous avons eu de la chance qu'il soit aussi sympathique. Durant notre séjour de 7 jours à Glenmoriston, nous y avons dîner à 5 reprises. Ici se retrouvent des randonneurs, de jeunes couples, des employés qui travaillent sur les chantiers de la région, des habitants du village. L'accueil de l'équipe est très sympathique et on trouve au menu les classiques de la cuisine de pub écossaise très bien réussis.

The dinning room in the Glenmoriston Arms has an old school feel and décor and toe food is excellent. I had the venison which really was melt -in the -mouth and my friend has a seafood pasta which was also excellent. Service was polite and efficient.The hotel was being refurbished and the blocked drains around the back were a bit off-putting, but I can't fault the meal.As other reviewers have noted, this is the only place in Invermoriston for an evening meal so booking is essential, we were there on a Saturday night and it was completely full

The restaurant has an excellent menu, which should suit all tastes, including those who need gluten-free. There are specials every day, which we enjoyed very much, and a roast on Sunday. This is home-style cooking at its best. The staff are very helpful and attentive.

If you're staying in Invermoriston then this is really the only place to eat dinner so you need to book. It's a big rather formal panelled dining room and the food is a little on the pricey side but worth it. Well kept beers and an excellent array of whiskies if that's your thing.

Wish I had stayed here . The food was out of this world. I had just come off the Great Glen way all grubby and dirty and exhausted. Plunked my back pack down . Had a ginger beer non etoh and had the most delicious smoked salmon salad and decadent desert I had booked here for my place to stay and then cancelled. Big mistake on my part. :( Live and learn

My husband and I ate in the Moriston whilst staying in the same hotel.It serves local dishes and the food is really tasty.The staff is very friendly and helpful.

We were only staying in Invermoriston for one night and this was closest to our B&B. I thought the food was a little pricey for what was offered but it suited our purpose. Comfortable surroundings and a good bar.

We were met by a very friendly young lady, which was something we have found a lot in the Highlands.we had a superb lunch, i had the Venison and my wife the gammon with a Mustard Sauce.both well cooked and very tasty.we would have liked to have tried the evening menu, but was to far away from where we were staying.highly recommended.

Nous avons goûté le steak pie et le gibier, les deux étaient excellents. Pour finir notre copieux repas, nous nous sommes laissés tenter par le sticky toffee pudding, dessert à priori bien aimé des écossais, c'était un délice!!Réservation impérative pour le repas du soir car c'est l'unique restaurant de la ville. Bon appétit
