Moonwake is a cool place and that's my first tip. Tip: It gets cold here, even under the heat lamps but bring a coat and come anyway. This is a review of the Moonwalk Taproom. Yeah, there's a brewery here and from those clean and shiny vats come some great tasting, local and craft beer. But what else can I say about the brewery? I suppose I could say that the open entrance space has been used for a local pop up market and it was petite but fun. There were just a few stalls but each one was local, quality and good. The main reason, unless you want to look at shiny vats, to visit is the taproom. The taproom is up a flight of stairs, is on a balcony and overlooks the brewery. Isn't that a great place to enjoy freshly poured pints? Staff here are friendly and since they make the beer on offer are way more involved than some city centre franchise clone. You can meet the owners here. Order at the bar or at the table. I've talked through what I feel like and have had recommendations. Tip: Moonwake is a local treasure, isn't huge so you can strike out and turn up when there are no free tables. Consider getting in touch if you want to bring the office or a group of friends. Pizza! For at least half the time I've been drinking here there's been a deal with Pizza Geeks. That's a brilliant local pizzeria. Use their app to do an "at table" order. Frankly, beer from the brewery served with freshly made pizza carried over the bridge from the local restaurant is amazing. Tip: Follow Moonwake on social media. They're lovely, transparent, informative and it's the best place to keep up with their latest brews and events. I'm a fan but I'm yet to try their e-commerce offer. If I buy a crate of their beer then I'd drink it! [May 22 update - even better with beer garden] [September 22 update - still good] [April 23 update - really enjoy their market events, recommend following on social to find out about them] [July 23 update - growing and successful but still feels indie and authentic] [October 23 update - Moonwake Beers are superb and they have a knack for great guest taps too] [March 24 update - So much happening here that it's worth signing up to the newsletter] [October 24 update - they span their event social media into a different account. Bizarre decision but worth following]

Good beers, the service is comparable to a cold room for frozen foods! The two guys at the service seemed annoyed that we were disturbing their internet surfing. The only smile we saw was when an Amazon package arrived for one of the guys at the counter. Glacial!

While on our visit overseas, we wanted to check out a local craft brewery in Edinburgh, so decided to stop in. Massive brew system and a smaller taproom, with little personality. The beer was good, but the service was bleak and the bartenders were uninterested. Being a brewer myself, I began asking questions about the brew house they had and one bartender said, "I don't know about our system." I was hoping to generate a conversation and learn more about this brewery, but the discussion fell flat. I wasn't looking for a technical conversation, but it would have been nice to get any sort of interesting discussion going. The two beers my wife and I had were decent (Lager and Kölsch), but the atmosphere and lack of visible passion definitely led us to leave. The two people behind the bar were more interested in talking with their friend at the bar, and not the people that came in. As a tourist, I'd recommend trying their beer at other locations that may serve them, but avoid the taproom. You think that going to the source would be the best option, but this was not at all the case. Just disappointed at the lack of care and passion about their own product.

This is a very friendly and bright experience. We sat outside as the weather was sunny and hot, Had a tour of the brewary by Vinny the master brewer, it was very interesting and he come across has very knowledgeable in his trade, some of the ales were spot on, i will certainly be going back. Visited back in December 2023, they had some great craft beers, decent range of styles on offer and the staff were welcoming. It's a short walk from Leith centre, and easy to find.

What a great tap room and the beers were true to style (loved the Helles). They had a sourfest this weekend and Death by Cherries was really nice. Just a short tram ride from Edinburgh. Will definity be back.

I usually drink Moonwake in the pub. It was my first visit their brewery. This place is a cool place. There are so many different types of beer, and we could taste any beer before we ordered. Staff are friendly and helpful as well. However, we couldn’t order any food in here except the crisps. I would like to visit here again when they serve food!

It's a great little brewery overlooking beer tanks. However, we had the pale ale and the cold IPA and even though they sounded delicious on the menu they were actually pretty watery and tasteless! Such as shame!

Fantastic wee taproom - not huge, so I can see it being less appealing when it's very busy but was fairly chilled out on our Sunday evening visit. Lovely beers at reasonable prices served in bespoke glassware, all whilst overlooking the brewing operation.

Attempted to go here at 5.45 with my husband and our 2 month old. Left the pram downstairs and walked upstairs snf was told immediately that no under 18s were allowed after 6... 1) it was before 6 2) it's not as though we're going to be passing a baby a sneaky beer or a risk of her going to the bar 😂 3) its not a nightclub its a microbrewery with a tap room - seemed very overkill! We only wanted to try their beers 😅😅

Very expensive and no real options if you are with a crowd and you don't drink crafty beer. Even the bottled cider was very expensive, and that is taking into account Edinburgh prices.

Moonwake is the absolute high bar for beer in Edinburgh. Now, I am not speaking about the actual flavour of the beer, that's a personal choice. I'm speaking about the quality of the serve. Moonwake serves the freshest most delicious beer in all of Edinburgh. Fact. It is just excellent. I've been her 15 times over the last year and it's always excellent, really really excellent. I am a Pale Ale, IPA guy, but their selection is fantastic. Come down and give a local brewery your money, trust me it's worth it.

This evening we went to a beer and cheese event…Moonwake, in collaboration with Azimut, a brewer from Bordeaux, were showcasing both their own beers with French and Scottish cheeses. Except there were no French beers from Azimut (thanks to brexit) - they are coming at the weekend apparently. We still had a really nice evening though. We were served 4 Moonwake beers and 2 Spanish beers instead. The beers were all Lager/ IPA types - it would have better in my opinion to have also served a bitter and a stout too. The cheese was very good, especially the 2 Scottish cheeses. We had a generous ramekin each with 3 French cheeses and 2 Scottish cheeses. All in all I think they did very well and we’ll go to other events there too.

I really want this place to be great but 4/5 times I've been, I've been really disappointed with their doughnuts. Always very dry and chewy and the flavours are always sickly sweet. UPDATE - Tried again after a few years and just as awful - mocha one didn't taste of coffee or chocolate in the slightest, just sweet and the filling was filled with gooey lumps, mebe icing sugar? The pineapple and mango cheesecake didn't taste of either, just bland coconut yogurt or something. Both just vile. Such a shame.
