Took my wife here for her birthday. Great atmosphere (especially on a overcast day) in very cosy surroundings, fantastic, attentive staff and lovely food.

Ate downstairs as wished a quieter room to chat. Pleasant ambience, lively and enjoyable but not overpowering background music. Food delicious, interesting wines. Staff welcoming and attentive. One server rather loud and longwinded chatting to another party. Overcharge on one of our wines was corrected following a subsequent phone call.

Staff were great regarding seating and courteous and efficient throughout our visit. Food gives opportunity to have mains or share small bowls which we prefer. Very good and no rush We will certainly go back

I cannot recommend this place enough! The staff are absolutely fantastic. I’m typically a white wine drinker, but since meeting the fabulous Maria and her brother Johnny, they’ve introduced me to a newfound love for red wine, and now I’m happily working my way through their cocktail list. 🍷🍸 I’m consistently blown away by the exceptional service, the incredible food, and the delicious drinks. Absolutely amazing meal here tonight with family and I am already booked to go back next week with a friend. A few of my aunts I was with are fussy eaters but they couldn’t praise the food enough. The owner, Johnathan is welcoming and has done such an amazing job with the place. Maria, our waitress had extensive knowledge about the wine pairing with what we were eating and I couldn’t fault her choices. Everything we had to eat was incredible, haggis Bon Bon’s, Korean chicken, patatas riojana, venison, Thai monkfish , prawns, Parmesan fries, sticky toffee pudding, panna cotta and cheeseboard were all absolutely stunning. I would have taken pictures had they not eaten all the amazing food so quickly. Thanks again and can’t wait to come back.

The wife and I had a rare night without the kids and headed out bruntsfeild way to find some chill vibes and hopefully some late night foodz. Montes looked a bit too crowded so we stumbled upon the decanter. We were greated by the waitress/manager, Maria. Immediately we felt the warmth and character of the place. Like a kinda 1920s Chicago speak easy or something like that. I'm no wine connoisseur so i left drinks to Maria and my partner. I had a tall glass of pinot noir - not too dry nor so sweet - and shared a second with the Mrs. I nibbled at my wife's venison and veggies. Any kitchen worth its salt wouldn't mistreat such a meat, nor did the decanter. Delicate, tender and delicious. Side veggies were, and are, of course, side veggies so no need flaunt the perfect crunch on the potatoe skins. At the end of the night, i found myself having a most insightful chat with Maria about her family's restaurant and the changes within the hospitality industry. I would and will return. And, would recommend the Decanter to anyone looking for a cosy and intimate dinning experience.

The food was lovely last night, we had steak cook to perfection, medium rare!!!!! Cheese board to Die for 😂🥰 Maria clearly love what she does, all night for all the customers she made sure each table was happy going above and beyond even going to the shop to try and get my husband Dijon mustard !!!!! Thank you too all the staff it was busy but everyone pulled together team work make it a dream for everyone 🥰

Best food I've eaten out in a very long time. Everyone at the table praising their choices as spectacular. I had venison it was too die for you will need a side of bread to mop up that sauce/ gravy - absolutely first class you will not want to waste a drop.

Having heard / read so many great reviews about Decanter’s Sunday roasts, we finally decided to pop in to try them for ourselves. Booking was super-easy via their website. The host gave us a very warm welcome as we walked through the door. The food was simple fantastic - fish taco is a must try (we had it as a shared starter)! The roast beef was beautifully cooked (quite possibly the best in Edinburgh South!) with equally wonderfully cooked roast potatoes (properly crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside), Yorkshire pudding (the perfect size!), and veggies. The service was relaxed, friendly, just the right amount of attentiveness (ie not hovering over us all the time while we ate but checking in occasionally to ensure all was well) and efficient. We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu!

One of our favourite spots in Edinburgh! The staff are always so attentive and knowledgable when it comes to the wines/cocktails on offer as well as food! Never been disappointed when coming here and would definitely recommend to anyone whether it be for a meal or just a few cosy drinks.

I’ve been here twice now to catch up with friends and it’s such a lovely place. The food is great - the fish tacos are amazing. Great choice of wines and the staff really look after you. One of my favourite places in Bruntsfield. Look forward to going back in the near future.

Disappointing. Stuffy crammed vibes. Cocktail tasted like concentrated syrup. Service was subpar. Ox tongue is as extremely tender and delicious. Chimichurri on top inedible. Focus on table turnover and you feel it as a client. Poor choices of wine for a place called decanter.

Fantastic restaurant, middle of Bruntsfield. We were downstairs as a group of 8. Very extensive wine & cocktail list, great chat from owner on food & drinks choices. Food top notch (padron peppers!!) Will definitely be going back & keen to sit in booths upstairs next time & order sharing platters!

Varied menu. Sunday lunch roast beef excellent, wine good quality and reasonably priced. Service first class in very comfortable surroundings. What's not to like?

We came for some early evening drinks (with our dog) and ended up staying for food and more drinks. Got a great table in the front window. Staff were very welcoming and attentive, even to the dog who was made to feel like a princess. Food was excellent as was the wine selection. We had our first date here 3 years ago and have and will keep coming back. Highly recommend, best spot in Bruntsfield.

Booked a table for 3 for dinner. I was very excited to go as the place looks nice and reviews were good but due to illness of two of us I had to cancel. They charged me a £30 fee. Now, I do understand they have a policy for cancellations and I'm really sorry we couldn't make it with very short notice but the fee I had to pay when doing the reservation was just £10. I didn't think the policy would be per head. I do find this abusive and personally, I wouldn't book again. Much easier to find places in Edimburgh where they don't charge you this amount. And their response to this issue is more understanding and friendly.

I’ve been to lots of amazing restaurants in Edinburgh, but the food here was easily the best food I’ve eaten. Every dish was a 10/10. The padron peppers with miso glaze was unbelievable. I’m recommending this place to every one.

After an awful week, the roast beef dinner, service and atmosphere at Decanter cheered us up so much. The music was lovely and not too loud, service was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. Each table is almost in its own booth so it felt like a very personal experience. Looking forward to bringing our loved ones to Decanter!

I visit the festival every year and catch up with friends at the same time. We are always keen to find new places to try. I liked the look of Decanter’s menu and it’s near where my friends live, decision was made. It’s relatively new. First impression was, “this place is very nice”, it has a luxurious feel to it with luxurious looking seatings but not “stuffy”, we were nicely greeted. So far so good. We weren’t being hurried to order (ok, the place wasn’t too full), and the waiter took time to explain the food and keep us hydrated with plenty of water, very attentive. Food were very tasty, we have ordered a few small plates, fresh salads, a very flavourful green curried king prawns and pork skewers, flatbreads, chicken and can’t remember the others, all very yummy. We were surprised at the place wasn’t packed. Small criticism is that I would like to see a few more small plates dishes on the menu. We will definitely return. I have already told my other friend who lives in another district of Edinburgh to try this place.

We went here for a Sunday roast to round off the weekend and although it was quite tasty, it was no where near worth the price. "All the trimmings" amounted to a couple of carrots, broccoli, 3 bit of roast potato and a Yorkshire pudding. Was very underwhelming and no one at the table was satisfied afterwards. We left hungry and out of pocket, requiring to grab something else on the walk home.

We stopped in on the way home from a movie for a small bite. What a delightful new find in our neighborhood, how have we missed this? Service was friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. I had the fish tacos, seasoned perfectly and lovely fish. A perfect small meal. My husband’s old fashioned was great, as was the glass of red wine recommended by our waiter. We’ll put this on our “favorites “ list and look forward to enjoying a proper meal there.

This place is an absolute must to visit in Edinburgh. Situated in Bruntsfield, the service is friendly and welcoming, and the food it sublime! The cheeseboard platter is great with amazing choices of cheeses selected, as well as the bread platter with tasty dips and olives to accompany.

100% visit here if you're in Edinburgh. This place is super friendly by all staff, and has the best dog [called Terrier - absolutely not a terrier really but a big softie] to host. We had the Cheeseboard and Bread platter between two people, which were both divine and definlty could be shared with more people easily. The cheese choices [provided from the cheesemonger next door], dips, olives etc were unbelievably tasty. We shall be back!

This is definitely one of the best places for food and drink in Bruntsfield. The vibe is warm and friendly with the warmest, friendly and most knowledgeable staff. Always excellent recommendations for wines and drink with an amazing selection available. Far too many evening have been spent under the roof of Decanter but we always leave in a better mood for visiting. Johnny and Marie always make us welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Many thanks to them and all the staff. This is the place to visit in Bruntsfield if you’re looking for quality and a great night.

Along with the epic cheeseboard, loved the booth upstairs (an extra treat on a sunny day in window seat with window open). Had a great chat with resident dog and owner. Men ordered way too many tapas but said they were all delicious and made a pretty good job of polishing them off. Would be interested to try the room with the speakeasy vibe downstairs. Especially on a cold Scottish winter night. New local favourite.

Was recommended to Decanter. Was not disappointed. Was greeted as if friends not customers. Cosy place. Sat in small booth where the seats seemed to be like a Chesterton, very comfortable. Service excellent. Both had steak. Cooked to perfection. Hand cut chips more than enough for two and greens, so much election. The blue cheese and sun dried tomatoe jus an excellent choice with the steak. Wine selection very good. When in area will visit again.

A good place for small plates and cocktails. We visited a month ago and ordered several dishes. We loved the fish tacos and sticky toffee pudding the best. The fish tacos were beyond expectation, the fish got a crispy coating and was tender in texture, complimented with an appetising dressing and good tortilla. The Thai monkfish and prawns skewers were also tasty with a nice green curry sauce. Haggis bon bons and patata riojana (with chorizo) were fine. My only complaint would be about the buffalo chicken, it was dreadful as the meat was dry and tasteless and the coat was soaked, unfortunately a stain on a very good meal. Staff are very welcoming and we will definitely return anyway.

The place is absolutely adorable and oozes charm. The menu is compact but has plenty variety and caters well to all. We had a few small plates, the venison and hake and shared a dessert. The food was absolutely fantastic!!! 🤤🎉 The staff is amazing, so friendly and helpful! There to suggest options and help you with the choice and believe me there is plenty choice in wines and drinks 🥰 Definitely recommend you give them a visit, it won't disappoint! We came up from London and found this amazing place with great atmosphere and people. We had some gorgeous wine and will definitely stay for food next time we are up in Edinburgh, as it looked great. We also had our little dog with us and she was made very welcome.

Honestly I love this place. The owner and all the staff are really lovely and know a lot about wine. They are knowledgeable without being pretentious which some wine bars can be. The food is very good too. Also, it’s very dog friendly!

Visited with Friday night with my girlfriend and it was really top teir. Went in without a reservation and they managed to fit us in (didn’t look likely as it was very busy) and had the decanter charcuterie board which was silly good. John gave us some of the young patter which was nice too.

Protect this place at all costs. I make an effort to go here every I’m back home. The wine is great and the food is a revelation. The owner is enthusiastic to say the least. The chef creates magic in that little kitchen, on a par with any food in Edinburgh.
