Great bites and inventive cocktails.

Great cocktails, but the staff can be a bit pushy to make you order more drinks. Hint, when my drink isn’t finished yet, I am not about to order the next one :-)

We had a wonderful time at Hey Palu. We tried lots of different cocktails and they were all delicious. The team were very friendly and made the birthday celebration really special. Thanks for a great night!

Serendipitous find. White Strawberry Negroni was exquisite. Staff were skilled in their craft, and their customer service was exemplary.

What a lovely place to spend some time. A Negroni fan? Try the Negroni flight....a real eye opener! Also tried the Godfather which was superb. My wife had the White Russian which was fantastic and along with the beautiful focaccia and olives, a great combination. The service we received was top class too and it really adds to the whole experience when they describe the cocktails in such detail. A great few hours and definitely recommend!

Margarita was pretty average considering the reviews and the awards. On the plus side, good music and they let in my extremely drunk but untroublesome friend.

Had 2 drinks and then they refused to serve our group of 3 anymore without giving a reason, just that it was at the staffs discretion without elaborating. We explained that we weren't drunk and how we were confused at the decision - thinking it must have been something we said, or that they misheard. None of us were at all drunk or doing anything that would warrant this. Edit in response to reply: We each had one drink with a meal an hour before we arrived, we had just been at a show, so definitely did not arrive “obviously drunk”, and definitely none of would have insulted any member of staff. Have you confused us for another group? We spoke quietly amongst ourselves the entire time. This was a really weird experience and other, better, cocktail bars were happy to have us. We had 2 drinks in 1 hour 30 mins, not exactly going to cause anyone to become extremely intoxicated to the point they can’t be served. There were certainly people next to us who were seemingly more drunk, and louder, but that's what is expected at a bar during the busiest time of the year. I also booked a table for 4 and we were squeezed in at the bar, with 3 of us, though didn’t complain about this. We have been to many of the best cocktail bars around the country, we have worked in hospitality, there is absolutely no chance that any one from your staff was called that, so this is a misunderstanding. If we were too drunk and asked to leave I would accept it the next day and say the judgment was fair and you're just doing your job - but the reason I am bothering to write this review at length is I know how much we drank before arriving, I know how we acted during the time there, and I know that we were not causing any issue. I seriously question the judgment of your staff, and I wonder how you are able to serve anyone at all if that is what you consider to be too drunk.

Came in for my favourite cocktail, a Pink Pigeon Club, and you didn’t disappoint! Great atmosphere too and such lovely, knowledgeable staff.

Great drinks & great banter with staff while sat at the bar (they even remembered me from a previous visit) the quirky twist and personal touch to the drinks makes for a better sip 😋🥃

Really nice venue off Bread St. Cosy and lively vibe, staff know there stuff and kept things moving along while completing our cocktail education. Having visited other cocktail bars nearby and over in Glasgow this one seems to have all the right ingredients for success.

What a Great cocktail bar, we found by accident, while waiting to go to the Military Tattoo, Edinburgh Castle. We had not booked, but one of the Waiters quickly organised 2 stools at the far end of the bar. It was very busy. We had a couple of Cocktails/Mocktails each, and very tasty tapas. The place had a great vibe, with good music choices for the atmosphere. All the staff were excellent. We hope to return soon.

An excellent place if you are looking for some great cocktails with some lively atmosphere. We went on a friday night, and things were very busy. Reservation is recommended. We had a bunch of cocktails and all of them were fantastic. Light, well balanced, and well crafted right in front of our eyes. We got the Negroni Flight, Nutella Old Fashioned, Lillet Fizz, The Godfather, Spicy Paloma and a couple of Amaros. Distinctly good. I loved how some of the cocktails come with their own activities, like the music box with the Godfather or the paper plane with the Paper Plane. Great place for a night out. The ambience, banter, drinks, showmanship, all come together and you won't be surprised why this is one of the premier cocktail place in the UK currently.

The banana sherry cobbler was one of the best drinks I've ever had. Perhaps the best. Extensive cocktail list with bartenders willing and able to make something bespoke according to the drinkers whim. Nice music and seating. Lovely service. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Outstanding cocktails and service!

Easily the best bar in the city, if not the best I have been to in Europe. Always welcome whether a quick nightcap or a bite to eat from the guys behind the bar. Can’t recommend highly enough and will continue doing so to anyone that listens! Service impeccable with a drinks menu to match.

We had a couple of cocktails and some tapas at the bar before a show, and it was superb! I can highly recommend the rude Cosmo - packs a punch and looks beautiful too. Also tried the cosmo spritz which had a zing and refreshing. We had truffle pecorino and crackers - delish- and warm focaccia. Set us up for the night! Can’t wait to return - my new favourite bar in Edinburgh!

Amazing cocktails and amazing aperitivo. Atmosphere is brilliant and a beautiful bar. Selection is one of the best I've seen, certainly in the amari and vermouth world. I recommend this place to everyone.

The staff were very nice people. The cocktails are amazing. I loved that they served martinis in a bottle from a freezer with a chilled glass to make it super cold.

Ben, Becca, and Rhys were all outstanding and excellent at doing what seemed like a million things at once. Truly engaging with the customers, making amazing drinks, dishing out food, and all maintaining a welcoming and warm spot. We stayed for more cocktails than we usually do anywhere - the drinks are some of the most tastiest things we have had in a long time. Get the White Russian, you won't regret it. We will be stopping in again and again next time we are in Edinburgh.

Great staff, service and of course great cocktails . Negronis deserve a special mention but espresso martini also went down a treat.

This cocktail bar is such an amazing hidden gem in Edinburgh. The friendliest staff and delicious craft cocktails. A must try for any local or traveler.

Had a lovely time in Hey Palu. The staff were incredibly friendly and really made the atmosphere inclusive. The bar tender Becca took the time to explain the intricacies of Amaro and what makes the drink unique. I tried a flight of three Amaro and enjoyed all of them with a particular preference for the Montenegro which was sweet and herbal. A must for those looking to experience the world of Amaro!

I’ve been back a few times now since the first time and it’s always lived up to my expectations and gone beyond; super staff, nice nibbles (truffle cheese) and tasty cocktails - what more do you need when you’re surrounded by friends? Had an amazing night, we went for after work drinks. Every single person in the building treated us like kings. Becca was very bubbly and warm, Ben and Rhys made some amazing drinks and were very informative and attentive, and Andy took care of us from start to finish.

I think this may be my new favourite cocktail bar. Not just in Edinburgh but in general. Andy and the team could not have made my first time with them better. So I went back, and had another cracker of a session. A warm welcome, quirky (I was challenged to make and fly a paper airplane), inspired cocktails, excellent company. You couldn't ask for more. And if you ask other bar staff around the city, they recommend Hey Palu. That's the highest praise in my opinion.

A great cocktail maker. Tommy's margarita was very good. Secondly, I ordered a strawberry negroni and it was too heavy for me ☺️ they didn't charge me for it because I couldn't drink it, even though I never asked for it 🥹 it was a very elegant move. Also, their focaccia bread is very delicious, be sure to taste it.

Service was attentive and kind, and drinks were mostly 10/10. I asked for an aviation but should've been more specific; it was served with aquafaba and to be honest didn't quite taste right. The other drinks we ordered were fantastic though, would come here again.

The first thing that happened when I got there was to be greeted at the door by a smiley man who I later found out was the owner. My first choice of cocktail was a Godfather. Absolutely delicious. Secondly I went for a Coconut White Russian which has a lovely chocolate button on top. Great snacks - we had jambon and olives plus pecorino. The treats you get given occasionally are dry roasted peanuts and the presentation of everything is just sublime. I can’t wait to go back again.

Life is so good when you have amazing people serving you great cocktails, experiences, and wonderful conversations. The entire bar staff is top notch and they want you to have a great time. The cocktails are SECOND TO NONE if you value character and complexity, and incredible flavor in your cocktails. If you’re looking for a great cocktail experience in Edinburgh, this is it. Also, get a Godfather and feed Craig while you’re there. You’ll feel better after.

My partner and I went here for his birthday celebrations a few days ago and we were amazed, all the bartenders were lovely and made sure we always had a drink and enough water. High recommend the negroni and the pink pigeon! One of the bartenders brought a small birthday cake out as well which made his day. Would highly recommend and definitely coming back!

Came for my birthday. Amazing cocktail venue. The drinks were all to a very high standard - even more obscure classics. Rebecca served us and was great; perfect mix of formal and friendly. Also got a free jar of peanuts with our drinks!

We only had focaccia bread but my, so tasty. Cocktails were excellent and they were happy to make cocktails not on the menu. A gem and an oasis in Edinburgh.

Booked on a Monday night and was welcomed to the bar by the owner Alex and a bartender, Rhys. Myself and my partner both sat at the bar and had a great chat with both about their love of cocktails. The dinks are phenomenal and I said to myself with at least 5 drinks down that each was the best I have ever had. The music and atmosphere is amazing and the selection of spirits is unlike any you will see at another bar. Overall, the hype is real, the professionalism and decor are second to none and the drinks are spectacular. Thank you Hey Palu for making my night and my partners birthday special!

i wanted to visit this place since it was recommended on my social media looking at bits to do whilst in Edinburgh and when i found out it was right opposite our hotel i thought, why not! i’m so glad i did because me and my girlfriend went twice, both times sat at the bar and the staff were great. chatty, attentive and overall just looked like they loved what they were doing which was serving delicious and unique cocktails. i also have to say i have a soft spot for this place now purely due to the playlist they’ve got going on because they played some of my favourite artists and i was in my element. highly recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh for a sophisticated but chill cocktail! 🥃🎶

Lovely staff, great food, and amazing drinks.

This was our second time visiting as it is a lovely spot with a great atmosphere. Great cocktails and loved the innovation of the negroni flight. One downside was that we did regret sitting at the bar as our conversations felt constantly interrupted (though apologetically) by bar staff asking us multiple times if we’d like to buy food and asking if we wanted more drinks when we hadn’t yet finished. We left feeling the service was invasive and the aim was to drive sales more than for us to enjoy our evening.

Everything was so good and our server Gracie was absolutely amazing! Would 100% come back again ☺️

We even chatted with the owner for quite some time. The bartender also spent extra time crafting my mocktails which was greatly appreciated. Highly recommend on your next trip to Edinburgh!

Not going back there for sure… Sat down for cocktails and at first staff seemed very attentive, asking about our day. However, after ordering a cocktail called Mango swizzle, I said to one of the guys that I am having trouble drinking it since it had so much crushed ice that was getting stuck in my straw. His answer was ‘Oh a typical swizzle, right?’ and he went back to his business… So we asked for the service charge to be removed, to which he answered that is not possible with no concern of why. But because we questioned that since it should be voluntary, he went to his manager, I assume, and came back saying he’ll charge only for the drinks. Again no interest in why we asked for that…My friend once again said ‘this should be voluntary you know’, he simply ignored her, showed her the PDQ and said ‘that’s £10 my love’ …. So disrespectful! I have worked and eaten at 5* restaurants and hotels and was never ever told service charge cannot be removed….

Don’t go to Hey Palu. They add a “service charge” to the bill and then make it out to be a huge problem to remove it. Give your customers a choice and stop automatically adding service charges. Edit: I see they’ve already replied, stating it’s “discretionary”. If it was “discretionary” there wouldn’t be a problem. But if you stick it on the bill and cause an issue when asking for it to be removed, then it’s no longer discretionary, is it?
