Delicious food, one of the best meals we've had this year. Staff were friendly too. Glad we booked as they were extremely busy, unsurprising for such a fab place.

Incredible food. A real gem: the food is unbelievably tasty, fresh and beautifully presented. The portions were large. A must go in the area!

The food was really good with the curryies being the highlights and the low point being something called String Loops (don’t bother, sounds interesting but totally bland). Service was friendly and we got a cauliflower dish on the house as waiting time was a bit long. It’s a bit cold inside the restaurant temperature wise.

It is our first time to try Sri Lankan resturant and we loved it. The food is delicios and fresh. definitely I am coming again. Thank yo u all

Absolutely delicious food! I have coeliac disease and am always nervous trying new places to eat, but I had a reassuring response to an email I had sent previously, and when we arrived I spoke to Shehani who understood immediately about the gluten-free dietary requirements and ensured the chefs knew straight away. I chose the okra curry and steamed rice which was sooooo tasty, and my partner had the devilled prawns which they said were also delicious. I was curious to know how they were made and Shehani immediately told me they weren’t suitable for me as they contain soy sauce. Impressed again! I wanted to choose the Sri Lankan pancake for dessert but was told it could be a ‘may contain’ for gluten so was advised against it. I had the wattalappan which reminded me of a very dense crème caramel, and was very tasty. The restaurant is quite small and cosy, lovely muted lighting and interesting artwork on the walls. There were so many tasty items on the menu and I can’t wait to go back to try something different. 10/10 for a lovely meal 😍

Lovely food which we all really enjoyed. Every dish was delicious and there was a great choice for everyone including vegetarian and vegan. We will definitely go back and highly recommend.

Hidden gem in Hove! The good was flavourful. Tried the lamb curry which was very tender! They also gave complimentary sides. We were so stuffed we had to take the rest home! I will be visiting again

Flawless food beautifully cooked, fresh, aromatic and full to the brim with flavour. Affordable prices and decent portion sizes. Our 4 year old absolutely loved the chicken noodles.

This place surpassed all my expectations. It was absolutely deeeeelicious! The service was attentive, it had very reasonable prices but the food was the stand out. I cannot wait to return to Brighton and eat this food again!

I keep going back to Moonstone for the authentic Sri Lankan flavours. Their Kingfish curry is a personal favourite. The service is always great, with a friendly staff that knows their menu well.

The takeaway was very authentic. Had the special fried rice and devilled chicken, while waiting had a spot of Arrak.

We just love Moonstone and keep on coming back. They have fab veggie curries and vegan/gluten free options.Classic meat curries are full of flavour,too. Just like in Sri Lanka.The service is great, too.Thank you and see you again soon❤️🫶🏻

Absolutely wonderful place to eat and will definately being going back. Warm and friendly atmosphere, all the food came out together (5 of us) and was SO tasty. A real variation of flavours and the waitress was very sweet. Excellent value too! Well done :)

We visited Moonstone this Thursday and had a great experience. The vegan options were superb and we found combining the devilled jackfruit with the potato and cabbage veg curry to be the perfect match of spice, sauce, and texture. We finished the meal with the cheesecake which was sublime. We spoke to the owner who was lovely and found it to be a shame that restaurant had so few customers on a Thursday evening but hoping it was just a slow night.

Superb local restaurant in Hove, flavoursome Sri-Lankan dishes, lovely service and very reasonable prices. If it's a weekend be sure to book!

This is nice little restaurant in hove , my parents were visting and we went out for dinner . The staff were friendly and you got welcoming vibes as soon as you entered the restaurant. The food was delicious and absolutely packed with great flavours and goodness. We loved dinning at Moonstone . We highly recommend it and we will be back .

This was my second visit. The first was wonderful, but this time we had a long wait and didn’t get all our order. The food was delicious when it arrived. Would not go back again on a Friday evening.

The worst takeaway we’ve ever had. £42 for two and wish I’d popped down to Tesco’s and got a meal deal. If you want to look after your customers provide them with quality and value! I really hate to be negative about independent businesses but the food here is not quality Sri Lankan food, it’s how can we make a quick buck from the dumb locals by providing them with sub standard rubbish.

We love this restaurant! Discovered it last year when visiting Brighton and made a point of coming back. We had never tried Sri Lankan food before so it was really interesting to have a change from Indian/Thai curries and try something new. The food is delicious and can all the dishes can be made more or less spicy according to your taste. Nice decor and great service too.

I went here on a Friday night with friends and was blown away by the food and customer service alike. Great people running a great business and they definitely know there way around a kitchen with how flavourful the food was!!!

Our first visit and was so impressed We will be back soon!

The food was nice. Bit dry but nice flavours, The drinks however, a can of Diet Coke £2.95 pored from a can that says 89p from a multiple pack, this you don’t expect from a restaurant, The staff were friendly but very quiet ,hard to get a simple conversation from. And food arrived in drubs and drabs, a simple ice cream arrived after my wife had finished her cheesecake.

Walked past on Friday and it was rammed so we booked for Sunday and it was quiet. Very nice tasty food and my south coast special was not spicy (which is good as i'm a wimp with hot stuff.) No pancake though means we will have to come back again.

That was a nice experience. My friend ordered ab aubergine curry, which they found to be just OK. I ordered a Srilankan chicken dish, and it was superb. The Srilankan lager was so nice too. The staff were responsive, and the atmosphere was cosy.

Ordered food for take away got it without cutleries. There was only one chicken roll instead of two as in the menu. Food was okay but the service felt like Sri Lankans weren’t welcome to the restaurant.

We were the last table in on a Sunday and the staff were very pleasant. A gentleman welcomed us in, took our order and answered any questions we had about the menu. The king young girl server was very attentive and nice, even though it was late and we probably kept them open past their closing time. The food was DELICIOUS, I had the spicy beef stir fry with some savoury Roti and it was very flavourful and sizzling hot. The beef was good quality and had a nice sear to it, the veggies cooked perfectly not soggy. The desserts were amazing, not too sweet but full of flavour. We had a lovely time and enjoyed the food and service tremendously!

Great food, very quiet venue, great small restaurant. They ask how hot/spicy you want your food when you order which is great.

First time visit with friends. Food was delicious. Different to Indian. Staff were very efficient but not much help when answering our questions on the menu. Service was good and staff polite. Will definitely get another visit

Went here with high hopes as love Sri Lankan food and had wanted to go here for a while. Positives were the friendly staff and good atmosphere. String hoppers and rice were good but there was a real issue with the squid curry, the squid itself was chewy and inedible. To be fair they were more than happy to replace it with the prawn curry. The only problem the prawns were overcooked and also chewy. There was clingfilm left on the bottom of the dish itself so perhaps this was down to the way they were cooked and with every dish unnaturally hot, maybe using the microwave less would help at least for seafood dishes A real pity as the coconut flavoured sauce itself was absolutely amazing, never tasted better. While I won’t risk going back I will miss that sauce.

Really nice and authentic Sri Lankan dishes just like home. Can recommend the devilled dishes, south coast special pork (it's a Sri Lankan stew) and the Fried rice. And must have the Lion larger / stout to wash it down.

This place is awesome and really worth visiting if you love Asian food. Lighter than Indian but richer than Thai or Vietnamese. I especially love the traditional meat curries with their mix of coconut and cinnamon. (Personally I'm less keen on the devilled dishes as they're a little more onion-heavy. Quality wines and drinks as well as food, reasonably priced, cool decor, and the staff are always lovely. Thoroughly recommend this place!

Lovely little place but very quiet for a Thursday night and the starters were very underwhelming. Nice staff but the menu was limited and not enough choice.

Soo many great flavours and options for a fair price. Atmosphere and customer experience was equally as good. I’d highly recommend and be willing to travel an hour to eat here again.

Freshly cooked Sri Lankan food, the devilled prawns in particular were absolutely delicious, very well balanced spices.

Had their seafood fried rice with a devilled seafood dish, it reminded me of home. Proper authentic srilankan food, I would highly recommend their curries and devilled dishes with rice.

Food was fantastic and not expensive. The food was prepared quickly even during a busy period. The menu has plenty of veggie options too. I personally recommend any of the devilled dishes absolutely divine would go again.

Heard good things about this place but the food was bland. All 3 of us had different things - a chicken dish, a veggie curry and a lamb dish and all said the same thing - bland. Didn't seem to have any spice in at all. The service was friendly but the food was disappointing to be honest

Visited for lunch with 8 family members. Absolutely delicious, authentic food. Everything we ordered was fantastic, and the meat eaters/pescatarians/vegetarians/vegans in the party were more than well catered for. Everyone enjoyed their food and there was plenty of choice. This was a return visit and we’ll certainly be visiting again in future. Staff were lovely.

Had the food here recommended by a few people. It didn't disappoint. Really enjoyed the chicken roll for starters. The lentil rolls were tasty but a little dry. The aubergine ratatouille was almost sweet and sour. I really enjoyed the devilled chicken and chicken rice. Friendly staff and prompt service. Ate with people who'd travelled there who felt it was very similar to food they had experienced in Sri Lanka.

When we arrived at 7 on a Friday evening the restaurant was very cold. We waited a long time for our food (apparently freshly cooked) Three of us had the lamb in different dishes which was very chewy. One had tuna in a sauce which she enjoyed, hence the 2 stars.

Food was great but as a big party (11 of us) the service was terrible. 90 min wait for our food, chose to serve other smaller groups before us. Just think they should not take bigger parties if the kitchen can't cope. No offer even of a free drink. Very poor so we will vote with our feet and not return. Such a shame as it promised so much.

Highly recommended! We travelled from Bournemouth to Brighton and for NYE but also my best friends birthday. We wanted authentic Sri Lankan food and Moonstone did not disappoint. I could not fault the service or food. Being Sri Lankan myself it was a real treat to taste the amazing food on offer. We will be back and thank you to the team for an amazing meal

Best Sri Lankan place in Hove. Compared to other place they do not change the original recipe. Rather they ask your preferred spice level and offer advice on what you should have. Would definitely recommend it.

Delicious food- the devilled cauliflower and the okra curry were particularly good. Great gluten free, veggie and vegan options. Nice unpretentious restaurant, easy to reach location (opposite the Tesco superstore) and great value. Would highly recommend.

Food was amazing. We shared lentil patties and mango salad to start.. perfect combo. Then chicken curry, beetroot curry and garlic rice... all absolutely delicious as was the cheesecake. We had exactly the right amount of attention from the staff. I can't believe this place isn't busier

The food at Moonstone reminds me of something that would be served by my Granny - fresh and delicious; authentic food cooked with love. We were back with friends last night; and were delighted to find the food even more exquisite and the staff even more welcoming and attentive. I highly recommend the 'Wattalapan' dessert as a perfect way to finish off ones meal, the scents alone will transport you to the beautiful island of Lanka.

My friend and I had a wonderful meal. The mixed seafood stir fry was delicious and there were plenty of gluten free options to choose from. The lentil curry was top class and such wonderfully thick yoghurt. One of the best restaurant meals I have had in a very long time.

Very good service with a clear walk through of the menu. Food was lovely and pretty reasonably priced as well and I would recommend to all.
