Back to utter rubbish again. Sadly. Ordered a dry fried chow.mein got a gloopy, cold load of slop with 3 prawns. After asking them twice to make sure it was dry. The beansprouts were sickly sweet and tasted off. Total disaster don't bother.

We were on holiday and loved our Chinese from here, we ordered way too much for a family of 4 as we were hungry but glad we did as I was surprised on the portion sizes, a lot smaller than what we get at home but the flavours were lovely

Lovely tasty food . We were on holiday in Porthleven and decided to actually eat in the restaurant instead of a takeaway . We were the only ones (it was a Sunday) but we were made very welcome . The young lady was so friendly and helpful . The food was really good , proper vegetables in my veg curry not watery frozen ones ! My husband said his beef in oyster sauce was tender and tasty . Generous portions . Would definitely recommend .

A great takeaway which was good value for money. The dishes were good and plenty of food - some leftover! The menu is varied with plenty of choices including dishes for those who don't like Chinese food.

Just moved into the village, had a takeaway as house a minefield of boxes. Found the staff very welcoming, food arrived very quickly and was good size portions. Warm and flavoursome. Will choose some more dishes in the coming weeks. Nice takeaway.

Reviews are harsh, I cannot believe what I read about our local takeaway, we enjoy our little treat every 2 weeks. The food arrives hot, on time, great portion sizes, delicious and at a great price. We tried Black Bean dishes last night and with noodles and fried rice how we finished I will never know but, I know in a fortnight we will be picking up that phone again.

Unbelievable treatment when we entered the restaurant. Asked if we could please have a table for 2. As the restaurant was empty we saw no problem. However the lady behind counter, while playing and flicking her hair around, asked if we had preordered! When I replied no we were told we couldn’t have a table without preordering. I told her we were not in a rush so quite prepared to wait. Oh no that was impossible.

Really in the 21st Century and they still dont take cards on delivery, appalling, need to get into the 21st century and get themselves sorted..

What a shocking Chinese. Food was bland. Customer service was horrendous. Wrong food delivered and then we were asked to pay to have the right dish delivered. The phone was hung up on us because we wanted the correct dish delivering without charge.

I have NEVER experienced such terrible customer service as we did here yesterday evening. We were a group of 11 ordering a takeaway for delivery to a property 2 mins around the corner and when we called after our food was dropped off to explain we were missing a dish and had a duplicate of another in its place (and it was for our gluten intolerant friend so important he had the right dish) we were essentially told that, you have 25 dishes and you ordered 25 dishes and that's that... We'd spent around £160 and it was like getting blood out of a stone trying to get the correct dish brought to us. In the end the 'roasted' duck came in batter deep fried and he couldn't eat it anyway, then they called telling us we should have paid for the dish when the driver came and they never would have brought it if they didn't think we would have paid. The whole saga ended when the lady on the phone mentioned for the 5th time about it being fine as we had the right number of dishes and her hanging up the phone on my friend when he said, so you'd argue that even if we had 25 crispy chilli beef, it's fine because it's the right amount of dishes? Shame the customer service is so unbelievably diabolical as the food was okay.

Pro: Friendly staff Con: Food appalling Staff smoking outside the front door We visit Porthleven once a year and we’ve previously visited Moon Flower for a sit in meal. So this year we decided to get a takeaway, expecting the same quality as last year. We were wrong. Very wrong. I’m not sure if the place has changed staff, changed ownership or what’s changed - but it was probably the worst Chinese meal I’ve had in years. We ordered a number of dishes and ended up binning the majority of the meal. Not one of us finished a full dish. The chicken tasted and felt like it was from a packet of pre-cooked chicken. It was thin, dry and felt reheated. The curry sauce was oily and jelly like. The prawn toast was like fried bread, burned and was awful. It honestly felt like this food had come from a frozen packet and had been dumped in a deep fat fryer. The meal left us disappointed and feeling queasy. This wasn’t the quality we experienced last year. This is a real disappointment and we won’t be returning. This is one to avoid in Porthleven.

Everything we had was nicely cooked and piping hot. Good portion sizes. The S&P chips were crispy and fluffy but could have done with a bit more flavour. Plenty of meat on the ribs and in the main dishes we had. Would definitely recommend.

While holidaying the other side of Helston we were looking for recommendations for a Chinese Takeaway, have read the reviews on Tripadvisor we decided to give moonflower a try, I have to admit I’m a regular participant in Chinese takeaways and I honestly can say this is the best I’ve had! Highly recommend the pork chow mien, the chips were perfect, crispy and fluffy obviously cooked freshly, the mixed sweet and sour balls were fantastic also cooked fresh and not greasy, curry sauce was fantastic, the curry sauce was like none I’ve tasted sweet and spiced… perfect. I don’t normally leave reviews but credit where it’s due.

Great food and value for money. Customer services was excellent The restaurant was quite but take away was busy. I would recommend eating in as the staff are very attentive and made for a better dining experience.

I ordered a pancake roll with sweet and sour sauce, king prawns with garlic, salt and pepper, won ton soup, chef special chow mein and banana fritters. Oh my gosh I am so full. Everything was so lovely and tasty. The pancake roll was massive and more than enough for 2. The won ton soup was tasty and i have 4 won tons in there. And the rest of the food was lovely. I was told an hour but this was delivered by a very friendly driver within that hour, nice and hot! If I had one niggle it would be that I did not realise that the King Prawns were in tempura as I do prefer it without, also when getting a take away this makes the batter go soggy so would have just liked these prawns with no batter on.

Ordering was easy, once we located the menu online. Takeaway was lovely, especially the Singapore noodles. Unfortunately you can’t pay by card over the phone so we had to go and collect it

Been coming to Porthleven for years and never used this restaurant because of passed reviews, decided to give it a try not a disappointment excellent food value for money and great staff would highly recommend

We visit porthleven each year for the food festival. We have had several takeaways from the moonflower and found they are great value for money. Friendly staff and we have not had to wait too long on the occasions we have visited. Highly recommend, big portions and delicious food. Will visit again. Have to say this is the best chinese that we have had and out local one takes some beating!!

We’d passed the place many times over the years but never called in. Walking in we saw the restaurant area was empty. But the takeaway side seemed to be pretty busy. As we were in the area out of season, this made sense. And it’s a good sign when locals are using the takeaway as it suggests the food is decent. The staff were very friendly and immediately made us feel welcome. We had a mixed started and we were very impressed by the quality of the food. Not greasy, not salty. The texture and taste of this food was fantastic and it got us excited for our mains. I had the red Thai chicken curry with egg fried rice. It was spot on. Just the right amount. The chicken was decent and well cooked, the veg tasted fresh and the whole dish really worked well. We have a favourite Chinese restaurant back home and we both agreed that this place is a lot better than the restaurant back home. Can’t recommend this place enough. It’s small and tucked out of the way in Porthleven, but it’s worth a visit. We’ll be back!

We were highly satisfied with our evening meal here. Food arrived quickly and was extremely tasty and not greasy. Waitress was particularly lovely.

Ordered a takeaway delivery on a Saturday evening. Food was superb and despite the time abs being busy I t only took about 30 mins to arrive. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals

Excellent tasty takeaway delivered to our B&B as promised. The dishes were well cooked with fresh ingredients and distinctive flavours, all to our taste. One of our main courses featured large top quality prawns which were delicious. All well worth a try at reasonable cost.

Had the set meal for4 as takeaway. Huge amount of food!! All actually very good and tasty. Agree the prawn toast was a bit "chickeny"!! Asides that, great value, very edible/tasty and friendly service. Give it a go. 4.5/5.

Best Chinese takeaway we’ve had in a very long time. Had it delivered, arrived promptly, hot on arrival and cleanly packed (no spills). The food was great, tasty and fresh, lovely preparation. Really enjoyed it! Massively improved since new ownership. Would have again and recommend....

As all the other eateries in Porthleven were busy we tried this Chinese at the top of town. The place was empty, which should have told us something. Ordered a hot starter board, all of which were ok except for the crispy whatever it was , we were not quite sure of the meat seafood as it was fried to death. I ordered chilli duck and when it turned up the waiter wasn’t sure sure if it was chicken or duck. It was duck but cooked to death on a sweet pineapple sauce, not a chilli in site. My fiancées beef in oyster sauce was nice. The beer I ordered was flat and the Pinot Grigio was so sweet it couldn’t be enjoyed. I wouldn’t return

Just had a delicious takeaway from Moonflower. Had a variety of dishes and they were all excellent. Service was quick and food was tasty and piping hot. My 14 year old daughter said it was her favourite chinese meal she has ever had.

Having heard there had been a change of owner, we thought we’d try food here again. This time the food was fantastic, exactly what we needed to improve a damp camping trip. The whole family enjoyed a range of food and would happily order again next time we’re down. The only slight oddity was that the prawn toast we ordered (because a few of the group were pescatarian) smelt a lot like chicken and in fact tasted like chicken....so I’m not confident that it was prawn toast. Although apart from that, the food was delicious especially the Szechuan tofu and Lemon Chicken. Massive improvement from before.

Came across this little gem by chance. We had a table of 9 booked the food was excellent and staff were very friendly and welcoming. The Tom yum soup & steamed sea bass were delicious. Reasonably priced and only a stones throw away from Porthleven harbour. Well worth a visit if your looking for take-away or eat in Chinese food.

Wonderful tasty Chinese food. Friends fly older gentleman front of house. The chef did us a vegetable noodle curry with no egg for vegan option with chips and curry sauce. Excellent flavour freshly cooked perfect. Thankyou

Since the restaurant was taken over, we have had regular takeaways and each time they have been excellent, whatever the choice. Well recommended

We walked past this little restaurant on our way out for the day and coming back to our holiday rental in the pouring rain we decided to nip in to see what it was like.There were no other diners in and it was all a tad quiet so we decided to take out.The man behind the desk was so friendly, asking about our day and telling us about Porthleven. Our food took about 15 minutes to come out and was still piping hot after the quick walk home in the cold! Everything was just as you'd expect for a takeaway meal and made for a lovely evening cuddled in front of the TV!

We had dinner from here this evening and really enjoyed it. We had a choice of dishes and each one was tasty and hot. We highly recommend you try.

Having heard good things about the new regime, we ordered a takeaway. The Kung Po Chicken was delicious, as was the Crispy Duck. Portion sizes were very good: we had the remainder of the duck for lunch the next day. Prawn Crackers were included at no charge.The takeaway side of the business was very busy. Food took longer than stated, but the very friendly (and, I think, slightly embarrassed) woman behind the counter was apologetic and chatty.We will be more than happy, if the food remains this good.

We visit Porthleven a lot, and Moonflower is one of the very few places in the town we haven't eaten at. Having read the reviews, we could never convince ourselves to try it. However, as it was the Sunday before Christmas we didn't have a great deal of other options available to us. We ordered crispy chilli beef, kung po chicken with cashews, Singapore chow mein and chips to take away. With trepidation we opened the boxes and transferred some of each dish to our respective plates. The crispy chilli beef didn't look very inspiring, but it tasted lovely. And yes, it was crispy too. The kung po chicken had a slight spiciness to it. The chow mein was your typical chow mein and the chips were very well cooked.All the dishes were hot and tasted freshly cooked, all also exceeded our expectations. Sometimes you just have to take risks on places, and don't just go by the reviews you read. We took a risk and ended up very pleased with how it turned out. We will definitely be visiting Moonflower again, and look forward to doing so.

Here in beautiful Cornwall again, and having read the Moonflower has new owners, and seeing some positive reviews we figured let’s give it a go. And we are really pleased we did. What a change the new owners have brought. Our takeaway was delicious, piping hot and thoroughly enjoyable. The entire family loved the food, bags of flavour, not MSG heavy and seasoned well. The chips were actually the best chips from a Chinese takeaway I think I’ve ever had, huge chunky shockers that’s were cooked to perfection.Overall good value for money with friendly service and excellent food that was ready and waiting for our collection. Well done Moonflower, please sustain it and unlike my previous review we definitely will be back again.

Good Chinese at the top of the hill of the town. Good menu which covers all typical vines gayer and all reasonably priced. Food is of good quality. Worth trying if in the Porthleven Leven area

Had 3 takeaways since new owners and will never return. We have given them a try but the last meal (ckicken curry) was only 25% eaten and threw it in the bin. The sauce was tasteless and like dish water and the chicken was skanky and poor quality. We have to drive further but is much better quality in Helston but again watch out for the Moon Bay restaurant near Gweek that is operated by the same owner apparently.

Had moonflower takeaway last night for the first time, and we were impressed. They said 20 mins and it was ready on the minute. Food was great and good size portions. Friendly staff.

They take phone orders from 5pm. Thinking they may be busy on a Saturday evening I gave them plenty of notice and phoned at 5.10pm for a meal to be delivered in Porthleven at 7pm. I ordered a starter, two mains and rice. 7.25pm came and no delivery so I phoned – busy. Phoned again – busy. Phoned again – busy so hit ring back. 7.35pm phone rang, it was them. “Where’s our meal?” “We’re very busy and the delivery driver is in town (two miles away) to get fuel and do some deliveries in town”. “So when will my meal be delivered?” Well…...(pause)…..maybe 8-o-clock. “Is my meal cooked and ready?” “Yes it’s here”. “So it’s going to sit there going cold for another half an hour at least before I get it?” Silence. Not happy with this I put my coat and hat on, grabbed the torch and went out into the rain to walk the 5 minutes or so the Moonflower. It was packed with people, sitting and standing, presumably waiting for their meals. Eventually got to the counter, said who I was, got my meal and walked home. So lesson learned? Don’t expect this restaurant to deliver on time. They are totally and completely overwhelmed with orders and stand no chance whatsoever of delivering meals on time, or even anything close to on time. The sorry thing is that if they were to be honest when they are busy and tell customers that their deliveries are going to be late then customers could then decide whether they were prepared to accept the delay or not order and they would not end up with a foyer full of p****d off frustrated customers. Come on Moonflower, if all else fails try honesty, it usually works. As for the food, the beef was tough and the chicken dish was loaded in sugar, a bit sickly actually. I won't order from them again.

Had a chicken curry takeaway that was absolutely disgusting. Tasteless, not warm, skanky chicken and you would probably have a better curry from out of a tin..Recently taken over by new owners.Need to improve. Will not be returning. and will go to Helston instead .Avoid.

We usually like this Chinese takeaway, we have had it with the old owners and the new owners and both were delicious! However unfortunately they’ve started over cooking all the food, the chicken balls were solid and not edible, chips were burnt and bland, this has happened the last two times. Their Kung Po chicken is still the best I’ve tasted in Cornwall so far, we would order again but will only get the noodle and Kung po dish. I like my food crispy but this wasn’t nice, stop over cooking your batter and chips and you’ll have more custom.

Took a takeaway from here last week following takeover by new owners. Only ordered a basic meal but found it to be very bland. Had chicken fried rice but had very little chicken and sauces were bland. Will not be going back as better meals arround . This is a new owner with another restaurant so should be better.

As we had heard good things about the new Chinese, we thought we would give it a try...

We’ve been visiting Porthleven for a few years now on holiday and have avoided this restaurant due to the poor reviews. This year we learnt it was under new ownership so decided to give it a go. We booked a table for the Tuesday night after the bank holiday and although not busy in the restaurant there was a steady stream of takeaway pick ups. We started with prawns on toast and chicken satay, then 1/4 crispy duck and finished with Singapore Chow Mein, Kung Po chicken and seaweed. All dishes were hot, freshly cooked and very tasty. Please ignore the old reviews. This was one of the nicest Chinese meals we’ve had in a long time and the service was great. Well worth a visit. We will be back.

So this restaurant has been in the village for a long time, but over the last 10 years the food became increasingly inedible. New owners have now taken over and the food is amazing! Please if you were disappointed before, try it again, delicious! (Hot and sour soup is really delicious)

We had a takeaway from the Moonflower last week as the Moonflower has now reopened under new owners.

Very nice will eat again in the near future. Rice = great Chicken = great Beef = great Pork = great Prawn Crackers = also very good

Pretty terrible meal, had to take the ribs back! Under new ownership but nothing has changed from the previous ownership really. The ribs were better before. Duck pancake rolls were nice hence the 1/5 instead of 0/5.

Old Moonflower was sold and re-opened under new management August 2019. The locals I have chatted with all say what great food they are producing and well worth a try. So we did and were not disappointed. We used the old Moonflower regularly. The new one will be visited more frequently.

Had a lovely meal here, we opted for a set menu and thought the food was lovely. Front of house girls were delightful and friendly. Very attentive and excellent customer service. Lovely view from the restaurant and amazing sun set. Thank you girls for a lovely evening.

about to go under new management hope the service is still good . We first whent to Porthleven and the moonflower 5 years ago and it was grate then and nice to see it was still there .

My family and I had a takeout from the moonflower. The gentleman behind the desk was very friendly and even came and told us a joke while we were waiting. The food was hot when we got home, it wasn’t greasy and had great flavours. My husband and I will go back when we have takeout for ourselves. We didn’t have to wait too long and they got the order correct which is always a bonus. My only criticism is that they don’t take card but there are cash machines in the supermarket in the village.

I ordered my Chinese at 5:20 and it has still not arrived at 7:20!! What type of restaurant is this! Would not recommend!! When we called to see if it was coming half an hour after we ordered he said it was the next one out! An hour later from this call and we still are waiting for our food to arrive. Hungry...

We decided to get a take out for tea one evening and liked the look of the menu here. It was a longer wait than we had anticipated but the food was really tasty and good portions! Would use again but with a little warning of a wait time next time please! :)

We reserved a table for two and advised them that we were Vegan ,with this knowledge our reservation was accepted.We arrived and were greeted by a very cheerful waitress who was well conversed with the Vegan diet and advised us that all vegetarian and Vegan orders were prepared and cooked in non meat/dairy areas.

Hot and sour soup bore no relationship to proper hot and sour soup. It was like watered down chili sauce. Horrible.

Had a takeaway on the first night of our holiday. Ordered too much as always! All dishes bland and almost tasteless. No chilli flavour at all in the chilli beef. If you are desperate for Chinese food go for it, it won't hurt you! Otherwise avoid!

Maybe we were just unlucky but we chose a takeaway meal from here last week and it was dire!

This evening we visited Moonflower restaurant and ordered a vegetable chow mein, special fried rice and sweet & sour chicken balls to take away. We were thoroughly disappointed in the food when we got home (a great shame as we had a large order delivered 3 or 4 years ago, all of which was excellent). The chicken balls were hard with very dry chicken (one was half-filled with yellow fat), the vegetables & noodles were bland and slimy, and the so-called 'special' fried rice consisted of 3 prawns (digestive tract still in place), some dry, grey pork (I think) and some unidentifiable slime that may have been some kind of processed 'chicken.' The rice was dry and the whole thing tasted predominantly of white pepper. Not too special. We threw most of it in the bin, a total waste of money. My husband also noticed that the tables in the empty restaurant were coated in dust and finger-marks (we had already ordered by then). If we had eaten in the restaurant we would have sent everything back. An absolute disgrace, especially for Porthleven. Avoid.

A really enjoyable meal, quickly served and of good quality. Menu is wide ranging and presents plenty of choice.

WORST CHINESE TAKEAWAY EVER jellified chicken in all chicken dishes, chow mein insipid, all dishes totally inedible and very salty did not even come close to a supermarket mirco wave meal !!........... (this meal was total crap) went in the bin !! gave owner chance to put right with no joy steer clear if you enjoy a Chinese!!

Chinese food should be fresh vibrant and full of flavour and hot. The food Ransid! Absolute rubbish or not edible! We paid £30 for what can only be described as dry tastless warm food the oposite to hiwvit should be. We left feeling ripped off. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. THE WORST EAT OUT OF 2017 THATS BEING NICE. A good chinese takeaway with parking nearby .Food can be a little different to some chinese but its good and not expensive.Ideal for those on holiday finding it difficult to find a convenient evening eating place

There are a lot of mixed reviews (several bad ones) regarding the Moonflower. All I can do is judge by our experience. We have had take away food from here, delivered to the door of our holiday cottage, twice.

After a long day at the beach on what was our final day of our holiday we decided to treat ourselves to a Chinese before packing up to leave. We should have made do with the 2 slices of bread, 2 yogurts and single slice of vienetta that we had left in our caravan. The sand we managed to accumulate in the shower tray from the beach would have been better to eat. I can honestly say it was the worst meal we have ever had in our lives. The curry sauce looked like the contents of a newborns nappy and possibly tasted similar. The chow mein had what I can only describe as "spam" in it as the meat. Even our dog wouldn't eat it, and he's a pug that eats literally anything even horse poo! And he wouldn't even give it a lick!! The chicken I'm sure wasn't even chicken, I'm not even sure if it was meat! I'm really struggling to find anything good to add here as a closing note. We wasted £35 on a terrible meal that no one enjoyed. The only positive I have is that the quantity of grease in the meal rapidly cured my constipation from which I was suffering after a week of holiday style eating!! Take my advise don't eat here!!!!!

We are holiday and have eaten here a few years ago. We remember it being not fantastic but as the deli on the corner (Pizza place) was shut we thought we would give it another try.

No puedo imaginar por qué alguien comer aquí y decir que su comida era algo más que un auténtico desastre. Mi familia y yo hemos comido comida china en muchos restaurantes y todos nosotros (9) odiaba la comida. La sopa de agua sabía salado. El 'cangrejo' en la sopa de cangrejo era inexistente. . Y la sopa caliente y amarga sabor ketchup caliente. El pato barrio era insípido y sin duda nada cerca de un cuarto de un pato (quizás un sparrow? ? El arroz) parecía haber sido fritos en aceite viejo desde 1927 y probado repugnante. Mi carne de ternera crujiente no tenía en absoluto y era mejor fritos literalmente profundo con azúcar. Los langostinos con mantequilla eran pasada y sin sabor, las bolas de pollo estaban bastante pesado y duro. Ninguno de nosotros podría comer la cena y nos fuimos muy decepcionados, hambrientos y pobres por el privilegio. Podría continuar, pero no perdí tiempo, POR FAVOR, no tiren su dinero. Es un restaurante de calidad inferior que juega en tener un público cautivo, ya que es el único 'Chino' en la zona. Un robo en el establecimiento, totalmente repugnante. Robo! ! !

Sólo puedo asumir que las buenas críticas son o no genuinos o experiencia restaurante es completamente diferente a los llevar. Cada plato probado el mismo. . Sosa y saladas.. . Arroz probado rancio. de ternera en la carne de pollo frito chili, bolas de grasas podrido y la sopa sabía de nada. . . Pedimos una amplia selección de platos pero nada era comestible. Por favor, no tires tu dinero, esta fue una comida horrible.

La comida es de muy buen nivel. Realmente no hay problemas con alguna. El servicio también era genial, el único elemento que me parecía un poco monótona, pero dentro de usted acepta que la verdad es que es un sitio que tiene entonces un restaurante también. Si visitamos Porthleven, nos volveríamos a volver.

We did not want to do much cooking whilst on holiday and the menu was left in the cottage we rented, I had to wait for our mealto be prepared but well worth it, and good portions.

We arrived late in Porthleven and most places were closed except the expensive places so pleased to find Moonflower was open . Good basic Chinese food with very friendly service . Portions were generous and we liked all the dishes we ordered. Recommended .
