On arrival we were greeted by a surprised member of staff that we had a booking ?? The service was ok, not bad but not great, our food was also not bad but not great, the starters were generally good chicken chilli was very good but the lamb chops were very tender but not flavoursome, lacking spice, the main courses were very salty and considering there were 6 of us, mostly salty isn’t good, we all eat out regularly and agreed we wouldn’t return !

We went for dinner, & despite it not being busy, we were seated at a dimly lit corner table in the middle even though plenty of well-lit, inviting tables were available at the front. While we didn’t mind at first, it was just the start of a disappointing experience. For a restaurant that markets itself as “Nepali Cuisine,” the menu leaned heavily towards Indian-style dishes, with very few Nepali options. It was disappointing. Small portions and the mains didn’t have rice or bread, which we had to order separately. mains didn’t come with rice or bread, which we had to order separately. The veggies served as a garnish looked wilted and unwashed, with some rotten lettuce leaves noticeable. We also noticed that every other table was served papads and chutneys while they waited for their food, but we were not offered any. Overall unpleasant, overpriced not worth the value of money. Not returning for sure.

Still the best curry in Kingston by far. Really tasty, great portions and plenty of choice on the menu. Staff have all been there for years and take pride in their job. If getting takeaway order direct, way cheaper than Deliveroo etc. Thanks Monty!

Great food and promptly delivered

This was the second time we have been to Monty’s and weren’t disappointed that we’d returned. Food is fantastic and the service is very good as well. We will definitely be back!

Great food. Freshly made veggie curry’s and Saag paneer, garlic naan and mushroom rice is a perfect recommended combo for vegetarians.

Great restaurant. Nicely laid out, so plenty of room. Family friendly. From ringing to book, they were so pleasant. We were a family of five with a baby in a pram and they were so helpful. Pram not an issue at all . Food and service were excellent. Would go back anytime. We all loved this place.

Monty's is a lovely traditional restaurant to a very good standard past the buffet and street food eatouts it is clean linen nice porcelain well conceived interior and good food. When your food takes time to prepare its freshly made and amongst a near full restaurant we spent a delightful near two hours for a meal. Nepalese cuisine will not change its not like Italian or Indian based on years of customs, evolution or fads by people in Nepalese society rather its food and hospitality by the Nepalese to cater for its clientele inside and outside of the U.K. For as long as the trade has existed Nepalese chefs and menu in Nepal will knock up English sandwiches, Chinese noodles and Indian curries on the menu back in the eighties in my experience and indication decades earlier when the concept was belied from family run eateries in the West where food and identity were one and the same. It is highly likely the Nepalese trade was spurned over centuries of foreign visitors they became accustomed travelling to Kathmandu and Everest religiously. The Nepalese restaurants in the U.K propogated slowly in the millennia and courageously in low yield areas against a backdrop of established trade of curry and noodles houses. By contrast the Nepalese cuisine in the U.K is a veneer to another new good standard curry house mainly Indian recipes restaurant items in an established trade. In 2000 the first time we went to a Nepalese restaurant apart from the Ghurka beer we came away confused with an excellent Indian dinner we didn't want and a mediocre Nepalese cuisine which was missing. Yesterday after many years we were determined to eat Nepalese food only we drank beer, ate momos and order the two items in the entire menu that said 'Nepalese.' Before long with the waiters recommendation we ate two new dishes not at all Indian and there we had our first true Nepalese meal, needless to say we'll be back. The only minus is the bill, we got a chit and hard to read writing. We were overcharged on one item which was corrected.

Just had a takeaway from here. The quality of the food is excellent and the starters are the best of any curry house I’ve been too. The Pahadi lamb and the tandoori butter chicken are to die for. You can’t go wrong eating here!

Have not been in many years and sadly it didn’t quite deliver. It seemed quite overstaffed although it did get busier, but the staff seemed very standoffish and not very friendly. Even a bit hurried despite not being busy. The chicken tikka masala was fairly good, but the dry fry wasn’t up to scratch and tasted a bit reheated if anything. The pilau rice and naan were both average too. In terms of the prices they were above what you’d generally hope, but the quality and service didn’t live up to that price point. If the staff were friendly that would sweeten the pill. No such luck! Overall there are plenty of better places in the area and I wouldn’t hurry back. Quite a generous 3/5 which if broken down more exactly would be a 2.5 in truth.

The food is absolutely stunning ! Best Indian food by far ! Highly recommend especially the tandoori dishes.

Not great. Initially, the service seems quite good and popadoms, and a substantial pickle tray are brought out (this is good, none of these ‘thimble’ portions here). They are also very attentive re. Drinks. However, this is a ‘holding pattern’ and things get worse thereafter. The curry itself was decidedly average. I had a Lamb Vindaloo (at over £11) had a sum total of three chunks of ‘meat’ in it (and half a potato) swilling round in loads of sauce. Come on, that is not ok. The final straw was them quibbling, and making a big deal, over a genuine discrepancy on the billthat was less than the service charge (we would have, obviously sorted this immediately with better service). This was approached like we were trying to shaft them rather than in a good humoured way (given the amount we had spent) Not cool. Go somewhere else.

I have been dining at Monty’s for about 12 years and I visited 25th January 2024 and took a friend along as I have done many times. It was most disappointing the main course food was reheated lamb and chicken dishes the sauce on the meat was all dried up you could tell it was not freshly cooked and it was not acceptable for the prices. The waiters also seemed to have a rude attitude and were not their usually friendly selves. I’m afraid I won’t be returning here despite it being a regular favourite all these years. It’s lost its mojo.

I have been eating at Monty’s for over 25 years. It is my favourite restaurant anywhere. The Hasina, Pahadi Lamb and Butter Chicken are all outstanding. Unfortunately I have moved away but if I am anywhere near I will always visit. Consequently I frequently dine alone. The guys are so accommodating and are aware of my favourite choices and will prepare me 2 half dishes. Surely this couldn’t happen absolutely anywhere else! I cannot wait to visit again. See you soon!

Good ebening. Good scran but a troubling lack of limoncello therefore have to deduct a star. Shame.

Came here for a work night out. Really struggled to park. Food wasn't tasty at all. The staff were totally unwelcoming and unattatentive and had no atmosphere at all. Such a shame

Used to be my fav place to order in from. Quality of food has gone down so much -it’s heartbreaking. I am so sad. And mad. The same dishes I’ve been ordering for years are almost recognizable! Change of chef? Change of quality of ingredients? I have no idea - but it’s so bad.… it was genuinely my one trusted meal that I knew I could always order and it was always amazing … now, it’s like the chef has lost his tastebuds and does not know how to balance his flavors anymore… cut backs on costs? Cheaper quality ingredients? I couldn’t tell you- but whatever it is- it also looks just as unappealing as it tastes. It’s a tradegy and so disappointing.

Waste of time. Owner calls and says he can't deliver because of the traffic. He then went on to ask me to tell him a short cut to my house. If they are this unprofessional then god forbid what they get up to in the kitchen. DONT GO!

Genuine personal welcome, excellent broad range of authentic Nepalese dishes all served with pickles and assortment of different breads accompanied with regional beers. Clean simple interior style allows for different group sizes, whilst catering for those more intimate evenings, with a glazed garden fountain providing a focal point for parties towards the rear. Excellent service delivered by enthusiastic and welcoming staff.

Food took about an hour to arrive at the table. Daal was coagulated. Curries were tired. Shishlak was cold. Overall, an unpleasant experience. Will not return.

We used to come to Montys years ago for the Sunday Buffet, so pleased to see the restaurant still open after all these years. Service as ever very pleasant , although a little slow when it started to get busy. Food was tasty, reasonably sized dishes but not as good as we remember. Good value for 3 people for £50.

Takeaway ordered which was awful. Asked for a peshwari Nan and got a Nan of half size with a tasteless orange stain in the middl, no almond at all. Sag Aloo was like a mouthful of salt. Chicken tikka masala barely tasted of masala. This and pint of lager while waiting cost nearly £27 .absolute rubbish. Looks like a nice restaurant from outside , looks clean and crisp but the food I got did not match the appearance. After reading the positive reviews here , I noticed that they are mostly at least two years old.

Restaurant has been in business since 1989 which speaks volumes for its reputation. This was our first since pre covid days but had been there many times over the years. Easy access from Kingston train station - less than 5 minutes walk. We always head for the quieter area at the rear - nice decor too! Reasonable prices - you can have a vegetable dish as main course for £6.20 - Sag Bhaji pictured - main courses such as Moglai Curry for £11.25 - pictured. Service is quick & staff polite. We'll be back!

We,four had a birthday party to celebrate.We,were greeted at the four by a smilingember of the staff making us feel so special ie better than family !!!.The decor, facilities and food with the exclusive service was totally awesome. We,will surely come back again.We,just could not believe the indivual and extra special service with normal charges that we were happy to pay without question. MONTY'S was examplery,truly.The, staff and the manager were ever so so helpful. The,car parking' slot' was a huge help,too.We, wish other restaurants could follow in their footsteps,too.Every, wish we asked was fulfilled ,fully with a smile.A,very big THANK YOU to the staff and the management for their friendly,clean and ever so lovely experience we enjoyed.We,shall be back soon.

Lovely staff and atmosphere. We went after 10 years as we use to eat here all the time and loved it. The food was not how we remembered at all. Perhaps not catered for Indians who love flavour and some spice.

My local Nepalese restaurant and I have been going for over 20 years. Hands down the best I have had. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Food that i ordered was terrible! I ordered shashlik kebab and chicken tikka kebab. There was no difference at all between them and both were bad and didnt taste like shashlik kebab or chickken tikka should taste like. One of the very worst chicken momo i have tried in my life! And in a Nepalese restaurant which is surprising. Vegetable biryani was ok but bland. Cider was ok.

Monty's are not that friendly as they used to be, service was very fast, feeling hurried, which might be a good thing when you're hungry and waiting for food, not so good if you'd prefer to celebrate your meal, completely wrong when you see your table cleaned and prepared for a next customer immediately after you finished eating... I had an impression staff was simply waiting for us to leave. We were considering one more beer, or maybe coffee, deserts were never great here but anyway we weren't offered any... Instead of ordering, we just paid, left, had a dessert somewhere else. Quite disappointing, it was our Valentine's dinner and we were expecting to be a bit more welcome. Still great food, nice decor, but fast-food service.

Food was nice but portions slightly small, customer service isn't the best, was served by two waiters and one was polite and friendly. However the other was very impatient and frankly rude. If you are charging the prices that you are, at least give customers better service.
