Volvería a visitar

My husband and I head here for a drink and a bite to eat every time we visit Edinburgh . Same great atmosphere , food and great service. We’re really disappointed to see that they allow vaping . We were seated near the bar and a chap constantly blowing out horrid smelling stuff . Unfortunately we left as I feel that it’s inappropriate to be using these things in such a enclosed space and I don’t want to be sitting in a cloud of vape or whatever it is ! I always look forward to going to this buzzy place and feel sad that our evening was spoiled .

Nice decoration and atmosphere. The plates look really good but they didnt taste that good. It did not meet our expectations, specially the caramelized banana pancakes

I love the vibe of this restaurant. Its good, varied menu choice now makes it my first choice for brunch with friends. I love the style of the inside and the friendly, quick service for a fair affordable price.

Montpeliers was recommended by our host as a good place to have dinner, just a short walk from our flat. The menu is upscale and the food well prepared, so no complaints, I was just not "wowed" by the meal...this could be as simple as jet lag, so don't let this stop you from trying this fine establishment. The beer menu is interesting and there are several choices I did not see elsewhere. When in Edinburgh, try the local beers and ales; they enhance the local cuisine better than any import.

Took our new puppy Max to Montpellier's for our lunch. The staff were so good and welcoming. Food was really nice. Sharing platter was our favourite by far. Max looking forward to his return there too.

Came here for a family brunch and didn't eat for the rest of the day! Chose the 'diminutive' Monty breakfast over the Full Monty and couldn't finish it all. Very popular restaurant at all times so booking is essential. Worth a visit but leave your calorie counter at home!

I visited Montpelliers on Sunday for a friends birthday. We were more there for the pre-cinema bubbly. I was pleasantly surprised by the completely vegan (yaaaas) vegetable Thai green curry! It wasn't as seasoned as I would make at home however very enjoyable nonetheless. The absolute highlight of our visit however, was our super gorgeous waitress Daniella who was so helpful and friendly that she absolutely made the visit!

Arrived 45 min early for our pre booked table. But because there were 5 of us we were given a table for 4 with an add on at one end - despite booking weeks in advance. No problem. Staff cortious and welcoming. Sharing starter fine but mains all a disappointment. Not the cheapest of restaurants and there are several in the area. Fish was really overcooked. Sent one back. Next only marginally better. 3 chicken dishes all overcooked and dry and only marginally warm. Wine overpriced. Staff lovely. Toilets clean. Would I recommend or return? No! Shame. It looked so good on arrival pitty food didn't match staff and decor.

Montelliers has had a recent refit, much to its betterment. It isn't as kid friendly as it used to be with the big soft chairs being taken out but the overal feel is improved. Wide selection of wine and beer. The food is good for the reasonable price.

We had dinner last night and I would love to say had a great experience as the refit of the restaurant is very good the food was also very good....but the waiting staff were very poor. The waitress speaking in a tone which Barbara Woodhouse would be proud off...barked at us the 90 minutes we were in this restaurant....no smiling, eye contact....just an air of complete indifference and I can't be bothered. I have never experienced service like it....Maybe the waitress was having a bad night, maybe they were understaffed...I don't really care....in Edinburgh where there is so much choice there is no reason to recommend coming here.... go elsewhere in Edinburgh for a pleasant evening!

If you want to get away from the frenetic festival scene you could go to Montpellier's for good value food in a lively bar. Just a 10 minute walk from George Square, in Bruntsfield, you can dine in. Newly refurbished bar with a very good menu. The weekday special menu, £10 for two courses is really excellent value. The only downside is that the service can be a little slow, but if time is unimportant, sit back and enjoy the lively ambiance. Really worth the walk.

We had a pre theatre meal early on a Friday, when things were quiet, but it was buzzing by the time we left! Surprised at reports of slow service,as we were impressed by the friendly and efficient attention we had. Very good burgers, excellent wine by the glass and above all a relaxed and pleasant ambience in a busy part of Edinburgh. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed a really good breakfast here. The atmosphere was good and the food well cooked and very well presented. Poached eggs were cooked to perfection, toast juice tea and coffee all fine. Staff were all very professional and friendly. We'd certainly go back.

I went there on a Tuesday and ordered the main course from the £10 for a starter and main menu. I didn't want a starter so asked if I could have a dessert instead. Not allowed - ok with that. How about a side order (e.g. fries, on same menu sheet) - Manager doesn't allow that either. Ok with that. Ordered a medium range priced wine. A friend joined me and was badgered to order something. The restaurant was not busy. She did order something. We shared a dessert - the cream was still frozen. The toilets were not clean and the candle-lighting failed to hide the dirty carpets. A pity. Hope they improve.

My lunch was very poor value, in particular the salad. A very small serving of potato salad, watery Greek salad and 8-9 small mixed leaves cost £7.50. I thought it was coronation chicken but it was tatties ! Had to wait a while at the counter to be served too. Won’t be back.

I used to frequent Cafe Truva at the shore a number of years ago and was looking forward to visiting their Lady Lawson street branch on a visit to town. What a disappointment! The ‘panini spice’ that I used to love was a delicious mix of spiced chicken, mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes served with a lovely Turkish-salad meze. Unfortunately there must be profit margins to protect here and the quality of product has been compromised beyond all recognition...bland strips of processed chicken, one piece of sun dried tomato all cooked without seemingly much care. The side salad used to be a real treat served with feta cheese, stuffed vine leaves, tzatziki and cous cous, instead you are now served some chopped lettuce, tomato and cucumber with no dressing.....distressing stuff. I hope they are reading and take these comments into consideration, will not return in a hurry which is a crying shame.

We enjoy eating at Shackleton’s. If you are staying at Channings it is a very easy place to grab a bite to eat. Everyone is nice and we enjoy the food.

Lovely little restaurant in the heart if the city where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch for my Birthday. The food was delicious although I found the portions a little on the small side and there wasn't the usual offering of a complimentary basket of bread you get in most French restaurants. I appreciate that the price of everything has sky rocketed recently so I think this may be why. I had the Roquefort soufflé when was so tasty, although the salad was a little sparse and I finished it in what felt like seconds and had to wait a while for my partner to finish his goats cheese salad. I had the cod with squid stuffed courgette for my main course which was absolutely delicious, although quite a small portion again. My partner had the pheasant which he enjoyed. We didn't opt for dessert but had brandy and coffee which came with a lovely little cake on the side. The staff and who I think must have been the owner were absolutely lovely. Would definitely recommend as the food was delicious, only marking it down as I was still a little hungry after my main course. The bottle of Viognier we ordered was very good and reasonable at £30.
