Monsoon at The Chequers Inn in Cherwell

Placed an order online for delivery. My friend rang the restaurant as the food had not yet arrived by the stated delivery time. The man on the phone was very rude. Not only did he not apologize for the late delivery time, he also swore at my friend. I understand that we ordered at a busy time and things take longer than usual. However, that does not give him the right to be patronizing and rude. Will definitely not be ordering from here again.

When your food arrives and you can't distinguish which is the chicken madras curry and chicken tikka masala you know something isn't quite right. Both lacked in chicken, ( 3 pieces each) both had way too much watery sauce. Don't think I'll be using Monsoon again. Oh, the poppadoms were OK.

Beautifully spiced, fresh and non-greasy, with gracious service. Draft beers from the Chequer's Inn.

We ordered takeaway and it was all excellent quality. Really impressed with the new chef. Light crispy poppadoms with sauces, soft naan bread, flavoursome pilau rice and deliciously prepared mains. Clearly high quality ingredients used throughout which makes a big difference. We'll definitely be back again.

Ugh ... I used to order from Monsoon almost weekly when they were on the London Road, but then the food went downhill a little. However, after seeing so many five star reviews on their website, I thought I'd give them another go. The food came in a mix of plastic and foil containers, all inside a brown paper bag and that was inside a plastic bag. On taking the brown bag out of the plastic one, the bag literally ripped down the middle, and the contents of the foil containers went all over the floor!! Two dishes gone in an instant, and all due to an incredibly cheap quality brown bag. Why bother with this sort of packaging when it comes in a plastic bag anyway? I can't tell you how disappointed I was - the food wasn't really that warm by the time the mess had been cleared up, but tasted okay (albeit the enjoyment was sadly tainted by the drama)! The chicken korma was very saucy (and not in a good way) - with less chicken than we'd hoped for. The lamb saag ... well, one in three pieces of the lamb was tender, but the others were quite small and chewy. Chicken shatkora was tasty, but very oily. The chicken biriani was actually really nice, with lots and lots of chicken, and this made the meal a good one overall. I can't tell you what the veg curry or the mattar paneer dishes were like as they ended up on the floor!!

An uninspiring but satisfying curry. There's a decent selection on the menu while the portions and prices are alright. Everything was quite salty, and the flavours not quite what I expected from the menu. I don't mean to say it was bad but it wasn't good either; merely fine. Which, to be honest, was what I was looking for that evening.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The sauces with the poppadoms were special and the main courses were thoroughly enjoyable.

We love Monsoon. The food is really good and prices are reasonable. The new manager, Terri, made us feel at home and provided us an excellent service.

So our local curry house at the Chequers Quarry has changed hands and was amazing. The dips and sauces for the popadoms are made on site, they have done a great job on the inside and the main dishes and service was brilliant one of the best Lamb Sags I have had in a while- super tasty and not oily either.

We went to Monsoon for Valentine’s and had a great evening. Hosts were attentive and the food was delicious, and a great price. We will be back again I’m sure! Thank you.

Under new ownership and what a breath of fresh air. The new front of house was so friendly and welcoming and the food was lovely. Just what the place needed after a few tired years.

We ordered during lockdown in the UK and really enjoyed a lovely Indian meal. Delivery was quick, food was hot, and we enjoyed both of our orders. The sizes were very large for the price and the naan bread was excellent as well. Very nice for a lockdown dinner!

Came here one Sunday for a roast and was great value for money!!!! The service was excellent aswell,had all the meats and we got loads of veg aswell,deft worth a visit

Monsoon is oxfords newest secret with Excellent service, delicious food and great atmosphere and a Sunday Carvery to die for.

Very good carvery for Sunday lunch time roast. Good service definitely worth a visit. Friendly staff.
