Monkey King York Chinese Takeaway in York

I have been a student in York for a few months now and this is the only restaurant that gets me through the semester exams without having a panic attack!!Absolutely amazing staff and the food is always 10/10.Definitely a must try in york!

Overpriced rubbish. Terrible I thought I would try it after a few months. Rice undercooked chicken rubbery and tasteless. Small plastic clear container. A total joke run down inside you have to be desperate. Serves mainly the adjacent council estate. Expensive £7.20 for garbage. Avoid my last ever visit.

Ordered a takeaway for the family on a Bank Holiday. Expected a long wait, but only took 10 minutes. The food was delicious. From the starters, the vegetable spring rolls and crispy wontons were particularly tasty. All the mains were lovely, but the Crispy Shredded Beef in Chilli sauce and the Duck with Ginger and Spring Onions were both excellent. Will definitely be ordering from here again next time we're in York.

We have been ordering from them for a few years now and even though our choice is limited to mainly special fried rice and soft noodles, I cannot fault them. They are the best in terms of taste and the portion. (We have ordered the same food from other Chinese takeaways not only in York, but we think they are the best.) Yes, the price has gone up like everything else but the quality is the same.

I have been going to Monkey King for several years the food has gone down hill and is not good value for money. The last two take aways had no taste and the fried rice was old and stuck together. It’s not good value the meat in the Beef and black bean was like rubber. It’s expensive for what you get it needs to improve. Far better Chinese take aways in York.

Called in to pick up some food after a long day. Ordered crispy shredded chicken with chilli and once home I found it to be a chicken fillet in some kind of vile lemon liquid in a big clump of lettuce. I have been here for many years and always found it to be good but this was just awful.

My wife and I have been ordering from here for 3-4 years and it’s been great apart from the odd late order here and there, but always professional. When we ordered tonight it came on time, but they got our order wrong. We ordered pork batter balls and they sent shrimp (good job I didn’t have a seafood allergy) We also had about half the amount of chips (which were cold) The sweet and sour sauce tasted odd and the price had gone up by about £2.50 compared to 2 weeks ago. The duck in the chow mien had been reduced also, we normally have big chunks. I normally have to put save some chowmein/batter balls and rice to one side as it’s so much food, but it all went on the plate tonight as it was far less than normal. A real shame, we’re not sure if they’ve changed management or suppliers, but it wasn’t the same. I get that after the pandemic it must be tough to keep a restaurant or takeaway going, but we won’t be ordering again.

Got food delivered from this take away on the 13th February,was very good quality and delivered exactly on time , would definitely recommend

Portion sizes were huge, especially the sweet and sour chicken balls. The meals were delicious. Would recommend a visit for takeaway.

terrible. worst chinese ever. meat tough. rice stuck together like goo. 3 of us got delivery all said rubbish. never again.

Used for the first time today and the food was great - delivered for a small charge and food was fabulous at fabulous prices - will definitely use again

What can I say. Salted spareribs as a starter excellent. Beef satay also excellent. Wife had vegetable szuschuan (don't know how to spell it) she loved it. Will not be the last time we go here

Regular at the take away food always good quality and lady serving always pleasant and friendly. Inside looks shabby and could do with some renovation to be honest it tends to be the case that Chinese takeaways tend not to care about their appearance.

I was going to get a take away from this shop . But seeing a member of the kitchen staff sharpening a meat clever on a drop kerb at the back of the building . I won't be using it & I'll be contacting food hygiene about it hopefully my dash cam will hold the evidence needed.

Came in tonight for a simple roast pork fried rice and was again blown away by the quality. I’ve had a few meals from here now and all have been exceptional, would recommend!
